Pat Robertson: Islam isn’t a Religion; treat Muslims like Fascists

Posted on 11 November 2009 by Mooneye

Pat Robertson

Pat Robertson

Pat Robertson, continues his mantra of banal loonacy. Chock this up in the record book of his crazy comments.

Conservative commentators are ratcheting up anti-Muslim rhetoric in the wake of last week’s Fort Hood massacre, with televangelist Pat Robertson leading the way with a declaration that Islam is “not a religion,” but a “political system” bent on destroying all the world’s governments.

In a commentary on his show, The 700 Club, Robertson noted that the alleged shooter in the Fort Hood massacre, Nidal Malik Hasan, had come to the attention of authorities prior to the rampage by emailing a radical cleric and trying to contact Al Qaeda.

“Nobody wanted to go after him because of political correctness,” Robertson said on Monday. “We just don’t talk about somebody’s quote ‘religion,’ even if the religion involved beheading infidels and pouring boiling oil down their throats.”

Robertson said Islam should be treated like a fringe political movement.

  1. TYO Says:

    Pat Robertson is anti-Muslim, anti-Semitic, anti-Hindu, anti-other Protestant denominations, anti-feminism, anti-homosexual, anti-abortion, anti-Mason etc… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Robertson

The man doesn’t need actual terrorist attacks for him to demonize everyone else. If you’re not like him you’re evil.

  2. Steven Says:

Excuse me, but isn’t this same “pastor” a war criminal? You know, he profiteered from the diamond mines in Liberia at the height of its civil war and then went on to divert funds from his ministries to its operations with his extensive ties to Charles Taylor.

“Robertson used his Operation Blessing planes to haul diamond-mining equipment to Robertson’s mines in Liberia, despite the fact that Robertson was telling his 700 Club viewers that the planes were sending relief supplies to the victims of the genocide in Rwanda.”

This man is a sociopath and his opinion should never be taken seriously or the fact he in some represents the sentiments of all the good christian out there.

  3. Ustadh Says:

Is this guy still relevant? Why do people listen to him? I mean Conservative Christians must see him for the charlatan he is?
He wants power and that seems to be his idol, he is just parroting what he is told by his handlers.

  4. YWN Says:

    Yo, Pat,

Why Islam is not a religion?

Coz it showed you and your likes as who you truly are = Manicheans disguised as Christians = NOT Monotheists -

For when you and your ilk equate Jesus with the One God of Abraham you end up positing TWO GODS - One is GOOD = your Sweet_Jeezus_God - the other is the Evil God = your Satan whom you and your ilk are so fond of talking about -

In short, what does not look like your Jeezus_God you deem it to be of the Devil - be it Muslim or Buddhist, etc. -

For those interested in Christian Monotheism as opposed to Pat’s and his likes Christotheism, here is a MUST READ book:

    Radical Monotheism and Western Culture

Can be found at Google’s books -

  5. Chris Says:

Muslims are nothing but filthy animals who want nothing more than to kill Jews & Christians. Any preemptive strike on a Muslim is a great thing.

  6. Khalid Says:

“Muslims are nothing but filthy animals who want nothing more than to kill Jews & Christians. Any preemptive strike on a Muslim is a great thing.”

So what does that make you who wants nothing more then to kill Muslims?

  7. TYO Says:

Oh God. Recent comments show examples of extremism from opposite ends. We need to get over this notion of my religion is from God, and your religion is from the Devil. Treating Pat’s version as Satanic is just as bad as him treating everyone else as Satanic. And Muslims are not filthy animals, and a preemptive strike is not okay. You can engage in non-violent debate without debasing your opponent or committing acts of violence just like Hasan did.

  8. Paul Says:

Robertson is not an original thinker. This has been around for several years. It would be worth the trouble to look at the history of this view - that Islam is a political ideology rather than a religion. At a guess it originates in France, where there is an active anti-Islam intellectual tradition.

Geert Wilders has also said this several times, but he probably picked it up from Ayaan Hirsi Ali (they were once in the same party). Both Wilders and Ayaan used the argument to say that Islam can make no claim to the constitutional protections afforded to religion. (In the Netherlands especially the constitutionally guaranteed government funding for religious schools).

Some of the people who say that Islam is an ideology appeal to an older tradition of ‘anti-totalitarianism’, which was prominent during the Cold War. They view Islam as the ’successor’ to European fascism and Communism (even though it is far older than either).

  9. TYO Says:

“The right to swing my fist ends where the other man’s nose begins.” Oliver Wendell Holmes

No violence. Free speech though is healthy. Discuss, debate - some may agree with you and others may express their dissent. That is the way to move forward, to make progress.

This idea that Islam is an totalitarian ideology and not a religion would be something to flesh out and hear out different views on the matter in a civilized manner.

If it is false, the debate will show it and may change the minds of those who think this way. If it is true, it would be of service to Muslim reformers to know where are the most concerning areas and from there begin to modernize the religion.

  10. Lou Says:

I dont understand what all the fuss is about. Islam is in fact a total way of life. It is in fact a political system. One only need look to Iran to see the model, in this case for shiites. Islam and sharia are the law. Period. End of story.

The koran dictates the muslims entire life. Just ask osama bin laden. Just ask the Muslim Brotherhood. Just look to Saudi Arabia. No churches there, are there? Building lots of mosques worldwide with all that oil money though, arent they?

  11. James Says:

“Just ask osama bin laden. Just ask the Muslim Brotherhood.”

Not mainstream voices. Don’t you see a problem with citing Bin Laden and the Muslim Brotherhood to describe Islam as a religion?

  12. Garo Says:

Just for the records about the “Reverend?” Pat Robertson:

    * When Ariel Sharon,Prime Minister of Israel, had decided unilaterally and withdrawn his barbaric Israeli army from Gaza in 2005 because he could not handle it,Pat Robertson condemned the withdrawal on destorted religious interpretations of the Old Tastement. Ariel Sharon responded by freezing 50 million dollars investment Pat Robertson had invested in Israel. A week later Pat Robertson withdrew his condemnation and publicly apologized to Sharon. Money can be tempting for self-prostitution,even for “Reverend?”!

    * About four years ago,”Reverend?” Pat Robertson called publiclly for the assassination of Hugo Chavez,President of Velenzuela, although such a call to assassinate a Head of State violates U.S.law. Robertson, the preacher who preaches daily Jesus teachings, calls for assissination of a Head of State and violates a U.S.Law.Unreal!

What is the appropriate adjective or noun one may use to characterize a preacher who does not practice what he preaches? Perhaps,a “Reverend?” who is confused at best, and a hypocrite at worst!!

  13. Me Says:

Here is a new book that may answer all of us.

EarthTrek Trilogy Volume 1: What is All The Fuss about Religion?

This first book in EarthTrek trilogy is a comparison study mainly between the three major monotheism in the world (Judaism, Christianity and Islam). The conclusion is that all religions, be they monotheism or polytheism originally came from the same Source. Some of the information in this book might be truly shocking for most readers, except for open minded Truth Seekers.

  14. Lex, Agent of Chaos Azagthoth Says:

Dammit, my Mom told me Robertson had died! What a let-down this is. Sheesh.

  15. Fred Says:

It’s a shame on a Christian person like Mr. Robertson to spread around hatred, regardless if it’s directed against Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Budhists, Jainists, Shintos or even atheists. He discredited himself like no other person has ever discredited Robertson. I think he stopped being a Christian.
