Lynne Torgerson
Ever since Keith Ellison got elected as a House Representative from Minnesota he has been making news and headlines. He is a brilliant mind and a strong advocate for liberal policies and social justice/civil rights, but a lot of times his great work gets overshadowed by the fact that he is….Muslim.
First there was the controversy created by right-wing windbags that Ellison should swear on a Bible and that he was undermining America (a secular government by the way) by swearing on a Qur’an. Then there was Glenn Beck saying he was “scared” of Ellison and wanted Ellison to “prove that he was a true American,” not too long ago Daniel Pipes said Ellison was more dangerous to Western Civilization than AlQaeda and other terrorists and now we have Lynne Torgerson who has almost no shot of winning the upcoming race against Ellison resorting to the one hail Mary strategy that might give her a shot at victory: Islamophobia. Stranger things have happened but aside from having no real critique about Ellison’s record, Torgerson seems dead set on trying to bash voters over the head with the fact that Ellison is a “Mooslim.”

Lynne Torgerson—who is running against Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), a popular, well-respected U.S. Congressman—wants to stop the “globalization of Islam” and “Ellison [who] is a Muslim.” She cites 9/11, Fort Hood, and the book Muslim Mafia as evidence.
It is our patriotic duty to ridicule this woman and her bigotry. She’s hit the national stage despite describing herself as “apolitical” but for her disgust for Ellison, who, in 2006, was the first Muslim elected to Congress. From her campaign website:
Keith Ellison is a Muslim, a person who was raised Christian and converted to Islam. … Now, with all due respect, America, and its people, should be lauded for its goal of promoting to public office and other high ranks, people of color, women, minorities, etc. However, quite frankly, in our zeal, we simply went too far with Keith Ellison. Keith Ellison simply is not a proper person to have in our federal government. [emphasis mine]
Torgerson, an independent candidate, devotes a third of her “Issues” page to “Freedom of Religion,” but she explains that Islam “is not ‘religion’ recognizable under the First Amendment” because it wants to “kill people not of their faith” and to “Islamize the entire world.” (Torgerson aligns with the Catholic Church, which has never killed a nonbeliever or converted a wayward, thank Allah.)
And, what do I know of Islam? Well, I know of 911. Nineteen (19) men from Saudi Arabia, all Muslim, hi-jacked planes, and flew into the two (2) World Trade Towers murdering thousands of people, and tried to fly into our Pentagon…
People say that we can’t include the moderate, peace loving Muslims. Well, I agree. But, who are they? … I cannot tell. It is not for me to go and try and find them. Rather, it is their duty to stand up and identify themselves, if there are any.
I know why Lynne can’t find “peace loving Muslims.” It’s that when a Muslim tells her “I love peace,” what she hears is, “I am going to kill you”:
I think it is interesting that Keith Ellison, in the past year or so, introduced a bill entitled “Global Peace.” “Global.” I think that word is telling. Globalization of Islam. It is also my understanding that when people of the Muslim faith use the word peace, that “peace” to them means the elimination of Christians and Jews. [emphasis mine]

Recently, I was in the courthouse, the new Public Safety Facility in Minneapolis, and I saw an Islamic mother, covered in fabric from head to toe, and walking 5 to 15 feet BEHIND her son….
What else have I heard about Muslims? Fort Hood. What was the result of the teachings of Islam on a Muslim, who was an officer in the United States’ military? Well, the result was him killing, I believe, 13 American soldiers, and injuring many others. Not one person killed or injured was a Muslim. In another book I am currently reading, entitled Muslim Mafia, it is suggested that Muslims want to infiltrate our police departments, our governments, etc., with the goal of Islamizing America.
You’d think the person espousing these beliefs would be a low-functioning nobody. But the lady is a lawyer, meaning she was smart enough to pass the bar, so her IQ can’t be so low as to allow her to plead innocent by reason of mental defect.
Me, I am a Christian. If someone criticizes Jesus, I am not going to go kill them. I may not even notice.
I’m glad you don’t kill people who criticize Jesus, Lynne, because I’m going to do so right now: Jesus Christ, what the f**k is wrong with you to allow this hateful monstrosity—with a belief system more repugnant than Michele Bachmann’s and a hairdo worse than Kate Gosselin’s—to be unleashed unto humanity?
Luckily, Lynne Torgerson appears to be incompetent. Her website is farcically amateurish: The part where she attempts to embed a YouTube video, but fails, is actually sad. Here is a screen grab of her homepage, which was designed by the same fourth grade militiaman who wrote her campaign platforms:
So she definitely won’t get elected. God help us if she ever runs for a smaller political office, like one where she is the only candidate. She has managed to cobble together opinions on a number of topics, unified by a thin fiber of self-righteousness and crazy—but ultimately, Lynne Torgerson is running an entire congressional campaign on bigotry, ignorance, and arbitrarily deployed pigheadedness. I mean think of it. 3 quarters of America is most likely anti-Islam. People like her are slowly going to gain votes like this. I mean c’mon! Sarah Palin has supporters! That alone shows how dumb voters are. People fought for the right to vote. Sadly, the only reason why we vote anymore is because of the candidates appeal. Not intellectual appeal.

Let’s suppose she does become Congresswoman, what would she do? How does she plan to ban Islam. Doesn’t she realise that would be detrimental to the USA?
Could it be that she is a neo-Nazi, using religion as a cover for race? After opposing Ellison because he is black, would not be tolerated. But focus on his religion, and it DOES become acceptable, because religous bigotry is part of “free speech”
Her statements on Islam are pathetically weak, as Christianity sees anyone who doesn’t believe in man/God Jesus as an unbeliever, and even Jewish prayers include the wish that all recognise God.
Hilarious thought…She should pal up with Daniel Pipes, another Loon who sees Ellison as a threat.
God, Keith Ellison must be doing something really right to get these Loons so worked up and worried. He is popular in Minnesota, so I think that is their REAL problem.

This vile bigoted woman, may be trying to compete with Sarah Palin. Lynne knows she has no chance of winning, she probably thought, “let’s go rogue” like Palin, and make some money. She will probably capitalise on this after it is all over like Palin did.

Recently I published an article about the congressional race in Minnesota, Lynn Torgerson vs Keith Ellison: A Congressional Campaign Based on Religious Hatred discussing Torgerson’s position statement which states (among other things) that “Islam is not a religion recognizable under the First Amendment of the United States Constitution”.
She is not alone in this xenophobic worldview which would limit the Constitutional protections of American citizens to only those professing particular religions:

Congressmen Ellison doens’t have much to fear from this weird looking woman, an attourney, (i wonder who here clients are and how they feel about her)

firstly fort hood was a judgement call made by one person who thought he had to shoot up a place this is in no way part of islam

The European Christian slave trade was far worse than any Muslim slave trade. Perhaps what bugs you is that Muslims also had whites as slaves! LOL Secondly, unlike Christians, Muslims freed slaves who became Muslims and through a process, eliminated slavery without having to fight a war. One of the first converts to Islam was a black African who led prayers in Mecca. Blacks are attracted to Islam’s message of unity and equality in the eyes of God. In Muhammad’s final message, to paraphrase, he said that all races are equal, the only differences are in an individual’s goodness. Educate yourself Lou. No, WRONG shlomo. The Arabic word for slave is used by some Arab racist assholes to refer to black people, but there are separate words to refer to black people in general. But that of course would require you to know Arabic, which judging by your mental capabilities, I doubt you know.

Aswad is the Arabic word for black, black people are not really referred to this way, it isn’t considered polite and most people will just say their nationality or country of origin.
Abd means slave, it refers to all slaves- not specifically of one colour.
You can’t figure out why a ‘negro/African American’ would choose Islam? That is because your little brain can’t figure out that it is wrong to use the term ‘negro’ and that people are not all shriveled up miserable bigots like you.
FYI- there are far more Muslim who are NOT ‘Arab type Muslims’ and some black people are considered ‘Arab’. You clearly know nothing about Islam or Muslims.

Boyyyyyyyy, are you ignorant of Islamic history. First of all not all slaves were black, they did include white, brown, and from Slav countries, Baltics, as well as Africa.
Islam gives certain rights to slaves and encourages manumission.There is a lenghty page here you can check, at Wikipedia (see below). Slaves were like extended members of the family, and if a slave woman becomes pregnant by her master, he is liable to raise the child. The child of a slave doesn’t have inheritance rights same as those of a child in marriage, but kind treatment is encouraged. Saudi Arabia was the last country to outlaw slavery, but if you want an example of the son of a slave woman is treated, look no further than Prince Bandar bin Saud, the Saudi ambassador to the USA. His mother was a slave.
When slavery was outlawed in Saudi Arabia there was a lot of opposition against that from the slaves themselves because they didn’t want to lose their security. Many chose to remain as paid servants. But for others, they would have to fend for themselves. There are always too sides to a story.
Why don’t you read “Islam’s Black Slaves” by Ronald Segal. It’s a critical study of slavery in Muslim empires and countries, and even he concludes it was nothing like the way the Christian empires treated their slaves.

I can’t believe that some of you are actually justifing slavery. Slavery is wrong, period. No living westerner has ever legally kept a slave. Saudi Arabia didbn’t see the light til 1960ish and Niger just recently outlawed slavery in 2003.

Thanks. Well let’s see what happens, i personally believe the Republicans have no hope of winning, the next election. Obama said he’d tackle immigration after the health bill. If he grants an amnesty to illegals, then the Dems will win the next election, for sure.
The verse about “wild man” doesn’t actually mean what Islamophobes say, but anyway, Allen West will be embraced by the Republican Right not least because he is black, and they’ve been looking for someone like Obama to lead them. They wanted Jindal but I think they may think it’s more “trendy” to have a full black, after seeing Obama’s popularity the world over. They won’t have a WASP, because they think American’s trust a “multi cultural” like Obama to listen to them. I’ve seen a lot of this type sentiment in right wing blogs.
Everyone knows that bigots are usually attracted to the Republican party, as it’s generally the party that the low income and uneducated (read Christian Right gravitate to.

Nobody justified slavery, but it was a part of social fabric for a long time, and still is today, slavery exists underground today, even in Western countries.
Lou (the resident nutter, whom i suspect is Spencer’s agent) posted something about why blacks convert to Islam (stupdidly she didn’t question why Whites and Yelliow and Brown skinned people do too) when Muslims had black slaves. She’s notorious for dropping her one line questions then not even acknowledging the answers. The point was there wasn’t wholesale mistreatment of slaves in Muslim countries because our faith gives them rights, so they didn’t need to fight for their rights. Of course, not all were treated the way they should be (as not all Muslims follow what they are supposed to) but for every mistreated slave you will find the likes of Bandar Bin Sultan who rose to become ambassador even though his mother was a slave. There also was no racism of the type practiced in America.

Michael, that sounds like a voice of guilt speaking. Probably because you’re horrified when you read accounts of slaves being hung by their tongues in America.
Now tell me..if you were an Ethiopian say, with a small child, you had no hope for employment, you were sick there is a drought on the way, no food or water, or you cannot travel for whatever reason..and someone comes along and offers to take your child to another country as a slave..what would you do? Would you rather watch your child die of hunger and thirst or would you sell him/her in the hope they’d be free one day, or at best at least have food and water to live.
Those are the circumstances that drive people to sell even their own into slavery, even today. So get off your high horse. Outlawing slavery doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Slavery exists in the West, underground.
