Bet , Wilders is an extreme version of Fortuyn ..
But the anger at the Social Democrats (PvdA is not socialist ) is strange , especially since you say “for what they did after the war ) since the PvdA gave the Dutch A) Retirement (AOW) B) Disability money (WAO) and a lot of other social programs … AFTER THE WAR !!!

People who vote for Wilders as a protest against the current politics forget he is a long time career politician who voted for a lot of the things they hate as MP for the Right wing Liberal ( i know only in Holland ) VVD …

I work in security with a mainly Muslim team ( with an openly gay Dutch supervisor , there go the pre-conceptions about Gays and Muslims ) and one of my Dutch colleagues gave this reason to vote Wilders , until i pointed out to him that he was voting against his colleagues and ran a big chance that we would not be allowed to work , because us being a security-risk under a Wilders government …

Wilders promises to keep retirement at 65 AND to kick out the Muslims ..
Chance is retirement would become 70 if he has his way since !! WHO will do the cleaning , security and factory work seldom done by Dutch ???

Last but not least , about Fortuyn , both he and his brothers where milionairs , but still he complained about the care his mother recieved in the nursing home … while they , without changing their lifestyle at all , could have payed for extra care ….or even private care .. so complain about the system the left created , but refusing to pay for the right wing alternative

Just to clarify: the woman interviewed at 1:37 probably did not vote for Wilder’s Party. She says she voted for the “Party for Freedom and Democracy”, which translates to the VVD (People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy), also a right-wing party, but by far not as stringently anti-muslim as Wilder’s Party for Freedom.

    @ Juan P

First of all, I’m not trolling, I hardly post on this website. Second, you’re making the wild generalizations when you call my country’s political system a “two party dictator ship.”

[I assume you’re one of the numerous trolls on Loonwatch whom seem to leave ridiculous comments which put forward the idea that Europe is descending into an unholy mix of fascim, racism, Islamophobia etc etc.]

Only because that’s actually happening. I have Muslim friends from Europe who find it easier to practice their religion (any religion for that matter) under the what you call “two party dictatorship” in the US than any European country. For one, my sister finds it safer to walk out with her scarf in the night than go out in some European city in broad day light where people look at her as if that scarf was Medusa’s hair.

[If you knew anything about the Dutch political system and actually placed the results in perspective (after all, of the 1000s of councillors, Wilder’s rhetoric was only effective enough to deliver 17 seats in only 2 cities)...]

Yes I don’t know much, and I don’t bother to care, because when I see a politically system in a country that prides itself in freedom allow vile filth like Wilders into power, than that tells me enough of your amazing political system.

[Given this political pluralism, it’s not at all surprising to see a few votes going Wilders way. But he and his party are essentially a 1 trick pony and his quest for power will therefore go unfulfilled..]

He based his whole political career on “eliminating Islam, jobs are just a dog treat to get more voters.

“Critics of Christianity/Judaism/Hinduism/Sikhism are not branded as right wing, so why are critics of Islam often branded as such?
Critics of certain Muslim customs (such as Islamic clothing) are often branded as racist but, as far I know, not many of them criticise Saris or Turbans. If the critics of Islam were truely racist, surely these items of clothing would also come under their criticism?”

Because I don’t see critics of those religions calling for banning their religious texts, symbols, clothing, etc. I welcome rational criticism of Islam, but when I hear garbage lie “the veil must be ban, woman who wear scarf must be fined, hijab must be taxed, stop immigration from Muslim countries, Islam is not a religion but an evil ideology, blah blah” that’s not criticism. That’s fascism disguised as such, and why I am concerned because people actually believe stuff this moron says.

[Stop making wild generalisations about this great continent which has readily welcomed and accepted millions of immigrants, myself included.]

I’m not saying you or others like you haven’t, there’s plenty of decent Europeans as any group does. But your kind are slowly shrinking. Hate crimes against Muslims have risen steadily in the past decade and will continue to do so.

“After all, you wouldn’t like it if the media started running headlines such as “CHRISTIANOPHOBIA ON THE RISE IN THE MUSLIM WORLD’ every time some loon murdered a Christian in a Muslim country.”

They already have been, for years. Why do you think you’re hearing about Nigeria, Darfur, and Mumbai every day?

[No doubt people like Abedude will be quick to create a paranoid delusion of concentration camps for Muslims in London if the BNP were to win a seat in the UK’s forthcoming general election. Nothing to do with the ideological extremism of the current Labour government’s policies towards immigration and multiculturalism during its 13 years in power then….]

And how is that an excuse for the rise of such filth?

Of course Wilders and the BNP are going to take advantage of the current economic situation! How the hell do you think Hitler got into power? They used the peoples troubles as fuel and geared their anger towards a certain group of people. That’s what these new fascist parties are doing!!!!!!!!

Wake up Juan and put down that bottle of Heineken, open your eyes!

LOL @ Sam Seed, good question. I guess he got bugar boarded.

jvdheuvel, you welcome, and continue the great work! If you can work on some translations into English it would help!

  • Sam Seed

Why is he trying to shove a pen up his nose?

I weep for holland. Fortunately I know a dutch kid in school who said “Geert Wilders is a tool.” He used that exact word.

There is a notorious hate cleric in Britain who shamelessly lives off the dole as he says a lot of inflammatory things without being put in jail or tried for hate speech. It is actually people like him who give people like Wilders ammunition. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C73ePf_2KVw

There is certainly something very strange going on in Europe.

I lived in Brazil my whole life, and for many years now I’ve been reading a lot of things in world media about how european Muslims are incapable of integrating, how they ghettoize themselves, etc. But then, when I finally went to Europe, the FIRST thing that jumped to my eyes was the quantity of Muslim people who seem to be quite integrated in society. I saw Muslim girls with piercings in their noses and wearing thight jeans, working, or simply walking around with non-muslim people of their own age. Those thing didn’r surprise me, because they are quite natural in Brazil; but, judging by the histerical reports on the media, I had come to believe that european Muslims were on the brink of creating a caliphate in Europe. At the same time, I realized that most average european people do not take seriously all this silly Muslim-bashing. Well, I am of arab descent and I certainly look like a muslim, but no biggot tried to beat me or convert me to christianity. However, it is always obvious that a lot of lunatic groups and individuals in Europe are becoming more and more ubiquitious and strident in their hate-speech. Anybody in Europe who spoke about Judaism as Wilders or Berlusconi or, say, the mayor of London have talked about Islam, well, they would be ostracized or in jail. So, it seems to me that the average European is not an islamophobe, but he prefers to remain silent, afraid of going against the media tide, while all these insane haters make their horrible show.

I don’t like Wilders at all, but I think that most got sick of him, certainly after his pityfull behavior in England, last night. But after the murder of Pim Fortuyn, most of the followers of Fortuyn feeling like they are the victim and blaming the socialists for evrything that happened in our country after wo2. So if Wilders become PM, I think that they learn that he’s a big fraud and we can better move on. But the way he behaved in England last night, cost him a few voters and the most of us are very ashamed of him, we are already silly thnx of him now.

  • Les

Keep up the good work jvdheuvel. Hope you guys are successful. As a Muslim, I appreciate your effort.

    @Bet
“Most will vote for him because they want to see him fall on his face.”

I think that’s silly and hurtful to the image of Holland.

  • Juan P

    @ Abedude.

I assume you’re one of the numerous trolls on Loonwatch whom seem to leave ridiculous comments which put forward the idea that Europe is descending into an unholy mix of fascim, racism, Islamophobia etc etc. If you knew anything about the Dutch political system and actually placed the results in perspective (after all, of the 1000s of councillors, Wilder’s rhetoric was only effective enough to deliver 17 seats in only 2 cities) then you would know that it is a truely democratic system based on pluralism and consensus, not the fake democracies which you have in the 2 party dictatorships of the USA and Britain.

Given this political pluralism, it’s not at all surprising to see a few votes going Wilders way. But he and his party are essentially a 1 trick pony and his quest for power will therefore go unfulfilled. He may hold a degree of influence in a future coalition government (although the idea of any of the other parties extending an invitation his way is fairly unlikely) but what will he say/do once his criticism of Islam is no longer attractive to the electorate whom at this moment in time are most concerned about jobs than anything else?

Geert Wilders is obnoxious, asinine (a self proclaimed defender of freedom of speech who calls for the Qu’ran to be banned…), eccentric, unnecessarily provocative, but far right? I would say the individuals whose death threats against him force him to live a life where 24 hour security and limited contact with his family are essential would be more more fitting of that description. Critics of Christianity/Judaism/Hinduism/Sikhism are not branded as right wing, so why are critics of Islam often branded as such?

Critics of certain Muslim customs (such as Islamic clothing) are often branded as racist but, as far I know, not many of them criticise Saris or Turbans. If the critics of Islam were truely racist, surely these items of clothing would also come under their criticism?

Yes sorry for the funny language.

Thanks for the link! We need all the help we can get.

Yep, this is just like Germany in the 1930′s. I won’t be surprised when I hear about mandatory crescent moons on clothing and jail time for wearing hijab. I guess Europe has a attention disorder when it comes to history.

For all their talk about open-mindedness, the Dutch are following in the footsteps of their fathers, who except for some rare exceptions, were complicit in the mass murder of Jews, the ancestors of whom now want the world to believe that somehow Muslims killed the Jews while the Germans and Dutch sat by idly suffering from some sort of Muslim hypno-rays.
