Prince Charles ‘Abused’ on Faith Dialogue

Even if you are the Prince of Wales and you want to promote dialogue between different faiths, you are going to get ridiculed.

Prince Charles ‘Abused’ on Faith Dialogue

(Daily Mail)

CAIRO – Britain’s Prince Charles has complained of abuse during his repeated attempts to promote dialogue among followers of different faiths, The Daily Mail reported on Thursday, April 7.

“I find a certain amount of ridicule has come my way,” the Prince of Wales said in a meeting with Muslim scholars at the Qarawiyyin University in Fez, Morocco.

He said he was met with ridicule for promoting diversity and accepting people of different faiths.

“One of the hardest things is to remind people of the great truth of traditional Christianity, not distorted Christianity,” said the heir of the British throne.

He said the problem lies in the behavior of some people who find it easier to focus on the negative.

“It’s the issue of stereotypes that is difficult,” he said.

“It’s so easy to concentrate on the negative and not the positive. But what I do is remind people of what we share in common.”

Prince Charles is known for his staunch support for the multi-faith dialogue and bridging the gap between followers of Islam and Christianity.

He has championed several initiatives to boost respect and understanding between followers of different faiths and improve inter-faith dialogue.

Through his several speeches on Muslims and the West, he has stressed the need for the two to live and work together.

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla arrived in Morocco earlier this week for talks on trade, environmental and multi-faith issues.

During his visit, he has been shown manuscripts dating from the 12th century, including an Arabic copy of the New Testament.

The Qarawiyyin University, founded in 859, is believed to be one of the oldest continuously operating universities in the world.

Religious Understanding

Prince Charles stressed the importance of religious exchanges in promoting understanding between followers of Islam and Christianity.

“…respecting other people’s cultures is the only way to achieve unity through diversity,” he said.

He said mutual visits from religious scholars from both faiths could give “a better chance in the future of ensuring better tolerance and understanding.”

Prince Charles believes that inter-faith dialogue would be much improved “if (Muslim) scholars can come to universities in Britain to study for a year or two, perhaps broaden their horizons, and people from Britain can come here and understand the context of Islam.”

The Prince of Wales himself is patron of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies at the University of Oxford.

“I’m one of those people who respects enormously diversity so I try to encourage the consultation of local people,” he said.

“Human society seems to function much better at a community level.”

^Let’s not forget that Charles can really bust some moves:

    “Dig that crazy rhythm!

Charles is a descent man that got a lot of shit poured over him that he didn’t deserve. Basically he was as forced into the Lady Di mariage as she was, and when you see interviews with him, or that documentairy they did which showed his private life, you can see he basically still has alot of childish traits.

In a way it feels like the man never was allowed to be a child and had to grow up, always got the blame for everything that wend wrong in the royal family that involved Diana and basically had alot of bad PR. I have no doubt the man is very nice and I am again pleasantly suprised by reading this about him. It again shows that he is quite a good and decent man, that now finaly (After all these years, can be happy with a woman that he actually loves.

Yacoub@ Charley soiled goods, yes the man has made some mistakes and as apublic figure they have been scrutinised widely. He is only human, Let he who is wthout sin cast the first stone…. I have made mistakes in my life but I do not despair of the grace of the Almighty!

Much as I would love the Queen is a descendant of the Prophet, I would like to see the linkage between IV and the present ruling house. There was a couple of line-changes since then, Wilhelm of Oranien leaps to mind. I suspect it may be a networm. Juan Cole isnt always the greatest factchecker.

But it would be funny if it was true.

  • The UK media have treated Charles with outright contempt over the years, especially after it became clear that he married Diana as an heir-making machine at the same time as being in love with someone else (now his wife). The truth is, compared to bombastic brother Andrew and spend-thrift Fergi, not to mention the xenophobic father, Prince Charles is – relatively speaking – not such a bad chap. It’s just that, rather like the media imbecile that is the current Archbishop of Canterbury, I would rather Charley buttoned it. Us Muzzies don’t need soiled goods as allies.

Marwan, some of the Arab rulers of Spain were descended from the Prophet. So she could be descended from both, but the article by Professor Juan Cole would obviously emphasise her link with the Prophet because that is more important.

    From the news report:

“Brooks-Baker said the British royal family is descended from Mohammed through the Arab kings of Seville, who once ruled Spain. By marriage, their blood passed to the European kings of Portugal and Castille, and through them to England’s 15th century King Edward IV. ‘”

  • Marwan

I think if you check more closely it was King Mohammed the 2nd of Spain rather than the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh)

  • Farlowe

“the Queen is related to Prophet Muhammad”

geez, so the British Empire was Islamic!

  • Mosizzle

Marwan, the Queen is related to Prophet Muhammad, according to Juan Cole:

Muslim President and Muslim Queen. What will we take over next? 😀

  • Marwan

RDS… I actually call the paper The Daily Hate Mail!!

  • Marwan

    Sorry, I meant Spain!

  • Marwan

Not that it is in any way relevant, but Burke’s Pearage traces the present Queen’s family line back to King Mohammed of Speain!

If this is true, then he could be doing stealth Jihad!!!

  • Farlowe

Jack Cope “he spent a lot of time talking to his flowers”….
At least he could see the flowers….

RDS, this is from the Telegraph:

I agree, the Daily Mail. And Islamophobes love it. For example, they used the Daily Mail story that I linked to in a comment above to imply that Charles had “submitted” to Islam whereas all other respected newspapers did not focus on his comments on Islam because his speech was on the environment.

Any news story will be blown out of proportion by the Daily Mail.

  • RDS

Be aware, this is the Daily Mail, which is infamous for its inaccuracy. Try factchecking with other websites to see if this is real or not.

  • Amy

I’m not a big fan of Prince Charles but this and the red squirrel thing have made me respect him more.

  • To some people, if you’re not foaming at the mouth, hating Muslims then you are not good enough and deserve nothing but death. But I forgot, only we are evil cultists…

Now Prince Charles is not a man I particularly like, he spends a lot of time talking to his flowers for one thing, but I do respect him for standing up to this junk.

Well of course, everyone who wants peace between Muslims and Christians in a dhimmi/Leftist/secret Muslim, et cetera. What other explanation could there be? What we need are more “freedom fighters” ready to abandon their dignity and tell the world the truth about Campbell Soup. Speaking of which, here’s the latest enlightening commentary from our good friend Pamela Geller.

“The Jews just want to live; the Muslims just want the Jews dead. That is the root cause of the problem.”

“These laws in Europe seem to me but a bandaid on a life-threatening illness. But it is something. The real objective, I should think, is to make these countries less attractive to Muslim immigrants.”

    Regarding the Palestinian flag…

“…(it’s the flag of the Jewish genocidists).”

  • Farlowe

Prince Charles is a very diverse character. He is a champion of organic and biodynamic farming methods as well as other interesting things as this article shows. He has copped a lot of flak over his private life. Good luck to him.

  • Mosizzle

Reminds me of when the Islamophobes were fuming over this story:

It turns out Prince Charles hadn’t committed the most shocking act of Dhimmitude known to man, he was simply speaking at the Oxford Islamic Centre and so of course he had to describe the duty of man to care for the environment as being an integral part of Islam.

  • Khushboo

I now have a newfound respect for Prince Charles after reading this. Thanks Amago!

  • Anj

From what I can make of the man, he is just like 99.9% of people just trying to get on and trying to to the right thing according to his/her concious!
He does cop alot of flak.

  • Mosizzle

It gets worse Marco, I’ve seen people suggest or heavily imply that he is a secret Muslim. A man wants to respect Islam, and for that reason they are all suspicious.

  • marco

Prince Charles has always had a interest in Islam. He has his own Quran which he has studied. Of course the muslim haters have branded him a dhimmi because he has promoted interfaith dialogue and stuck up for muslims on a few occasions,.

  • mindy1

Dammit I never thought I would like anything about him, and now you printed something that made me respect him. In all seriousness, that kind of dialogue is good.
