July 27: Peter King to Hold Third Hearing on “American Muslim Radicalization”

Posted on 20 July 2011 by Emperor

There goes IRA terror linked Peter King again. We will be live tweeting the shenanigans once again on our Twitter page.

Rep. Peter King Announces Third Islamic Radicalization Hearing Will Happen Next Week

(Huffington Post)

Peter King, the controversial Republican congressman from New York who chairs the House Committee on Homeland Security, announced Tuesday that he will hold a third hearing on radicalization among Muslim-Americans next week.

While King’s first hearing in March focused on Islamic radicalization in general and his secondfocused on radicalization in prisons, the July 27 hearing will be about al Shabaab, a Somalia-based terrorist organization that has made headlines for recruiting Somali-Americans in the Midwest.

In a press release released on Tuesday, King said:

“At this hearing, the third in a series, we will examine Somalia-based terrorist organization al-Shabaab’s ongoing recruitment, radicalization, and training of young Muslim-Americans and al-Shabaab’s linking up with al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).“In Minnesota, Ohio, and other states, dozens of young Muslim males have been recruited, radicalized, and then taken from their communities for overseas terrorist training by al-Shabaab. In a number of cases, the men – including both Somali-Americans and other converts — have ended up carrying out suicide bombings or have otherwise been killed, often without their families even knowing where their sons have gone. There has not been sufficient cooperation from mosque leaders. In at least one instance, a Minnesota imam told the desperate family of a missing young man not to cooperate with the FBI.

“There are growing concerns that al-Shabaab in Somalia is linking up with al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) in Yemen to better train these radicalized young men in order to attack Americans around the world, or potentially shift their focus to attacking our homeland.

“This coordinated and ongoing recruitment and radicalization of young Muslim men in the U.S. is a serious and growing threat to our homeland security and simply cannot be ignored.”

King has been criticized by Islamic organizations for his prior hearings, which many Muslim groupshave said too broadly target their communities. Muslims groups have also criticized prior hearings for largely lacking Muslim witnesses. A witness list for next week’s hearing has not been released.

I am glad he is taking his own frustration against Muslims out by calling this hearing instead of shooting and killing people like Breivik (Oslo Bomber). We all know that he is right wing nut.

Peter King makes incredibly unrealistic sweeping generalizations.

Honestly, I cannot believe that idiots like this are allowed to hold positions in the government to begin with…

I think Murdoch has other problems at the moment rather than opening a new office ;-)
Strange that these things are not reported on Fox News

  • Anj

You think it’s bad now? Wait until Murdoch opens his Doha office and access to 50million Arabs and starts peddling his brand of Zionist crap. Brilliant article on al jazeera on Murdoch view of Muslims. He has hatred for them.
Yet all this is going to be funded by Saudi money. Has prince talal lost his frickin marbles.
I suppose the dollar is more important than the deen for him.
Prince talal also owns a large chunck of fox news USA. The mind just boggles!

    @Peter

“The Al-Shabab are a dangerous organization for sure, but King is exploiting the issue for his own benefit.

There has not been sufficient cooperation from mosque leaders. In at least one instance, a Minnesota imam told the desperate family of a missing young man not to cooperate with the FBI.

A sweeping generalization based upon a single anecdote.”

Isn’t that what Islamophobia generally is all about? :) The ‘phobes are all about extending the police-blotter on Muslims into a framework of analysis of normative Islam and predictable Muslim behavior.

Coming at this from another angle, even though we know Peter King is singling out Muslims, it seems that if he would have begun by looking at how *specific* Muslim terrorist organizations operate in the U.S. his hearings would have had more credibility possibly(?). Muslims hate extremism, violence, and terrorism just as much as non-Muslims so I think if this(al Shabaab, a Somalia-based terrorist organization) was the scope of the hearings, and no more, it might not have been much of an issue.

Of course the loons would have taken the opportunity to link every act of terrorism and planned terrorism and radicalization to the ubiquitous al-Qa’ida and the omnipresent Ikhwan al-Muslimun and the unidentifiable Hamas and Hezbollah presence in the U.S., but the loons aren’t known for their intelligence. Just something to think about.

This is tangential to the discussion, but, isn’t Allen West planning something like this for Florida? People here are being very tight-lipped about it. Does anyone know anything?

LOL, this guy just won’t quit. He would recognize a clue if it hit him in the face.

  • David

Why can’t there be hearings on the ill effects of so many ding-dongs in Congress? In fact, I am beginning to think that we need to have checkpoints for White Republicans, where anyone suspected must submit to psychological testing every few days because so many of their ilk seem to have lost their damned marbles. Sure this is profiling, but I’m sure they’d find nothing wrong with it. It’s all about national security.

    @ Daniel:

The main reason he’s not in prison is because we have a significant minority of third, fourth and fifth generation Irish-Americans who feel it’s their patriotic duty to send money to terrorist groups like the IRA, and that drinking green beer once a year makes them experts on everything that happens across the Atlantic. Bloody plastic paddies. Their money was what funded the resurgence of violence in the ’90s, and it was very convenient because, of course, they never set foot in Ireland, so they never had to deal with the consequences of their actions.

As for King, I still openly and vehemently refuse to even recognize him as a legitimately elected official of the US. He’s a nobody as far as I’m concerned, so f*** him!

HOWEVER… I have heard that he is now anti-Murdoch, which I find hilarious. Maybe if we keep playing these loons against one another they’ll destroy each other. Hehe…

  • Daniel

I would think that if I had read a Tom Clancy novel about a Congressmen who was an unapologetic supporter of a terrorist organization (the IRA), and he was put in charge of anti-terrorism efforts, I would have said “that is a ridiculous story, stupid premise.”

Oh, how wrong I would be. No one has ever lost money on overestimating the stupidity of the American voter. Why this clown keeps getting re-elected–and frankly, why he isn’t in prison–is beyond me. And having him lead efforts to demonize an entire religion as terrorist is beyond absurd.

Welcome to the United Loon States of America!

  • Ustadh

Peter King is probably the shame of politics in this decade.

I think he wants to be Chief Loon.
Evidently you get a badge, a uniform and the pension/healthcare package is quite good.
