The Nuclear Card

Pamela Geller and Co. Connected to Norway Bomber Anders Behring Breivik?

Anders Behring Breivik

Oslo Bombing Suspect Anders Behring Breivik

We’ve been screaming from the top of our lungs about how these crazed radical anti-Muslim Islamophobes are inciting violence through their hate-mongering. Anders Behring Breivak, arrested as a suspect in the attack has written glowingly of Geert Wilders, Robert Spencer, SIOE, and the EDL. Charles Johnson of LGF reports that he had a link with Fjordman who was a guest writer on Geller’s blog.

Terrorism in Europe has been over linked to an Islamic Muslim threat, even though we reported on how exaggerated the claim was: Europol Report: All Muslims are Terrorists…Except the 99.6% that Aren’t.

What Just Happened in Oslo, Norway? (UPDATES)

(Mother-Jones)

This explainer is being updated as more news emerges. Click here for photos from the sceneand here for details about the man arrested in connection with the attacks. For the latest news updates, click here.

The basics: A massive explosion hit Norway’s government hub in central Oslo on Friday, killing at least seven people and injuring at least 15 others. The six-story building that was most heavily damaged included the oil ministry and is next to the building that houses the office of Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg. The PM was unharmed in the blast and is now operating out of an undisclosed location. Witness testimony and damage at the scene are consistent with reports of a car bombing. The New York Times reports:

Stunned office staff and civil servants working in the vicinity of the bombed building said two explosions could be heard in close succession. The sound of the blasts echoed across the city just before 3:30 p.m. local time. Giant clouds of light-colored smoke continued to rise hundreds of feet into the air over the city…

Photos and television footage showed windows blown out in the 17-story office building across the street from the oil ministry, and the street and plaza areas on each side were strewn with glass and debris.

The first person on the scene “described it as ‘worse than a war zone,’” says Joe Sivilli, who’s talking to Mother Jones‘ Tim McDonnell from on the ground in Oslo. Sivilli, who speaks Norwegian fluently, works at a home-brewed beer shop about 2 kilometers away from the site of the bombing. He says he felt a “rumble, like a small earthquake,” when the bomb went off, but assumed it was just “construction or something like that.” He’ll be monitoring the Norwegian-language media for us as this story develops.

Wasn’t there another attack? A gunman dressed as a policeman reportedly opened fire this afternoon at a Labour party youth camp on the island of Utoya, about 15 miles outside of Oslo, killing at least 80 people (police officials previously reported at least 10 casualties, but had expect that number to rise). Police have a suspect in custody. Prime Minister Stoltenberg was due to visit the camp tomorrow morning, according to NRK, Norway’s national public television broadcaster. (Stoltenberg has attended gatherings at the camp almost every year in recent memory.) On Friday evening, police found undetonated explosives on the island.

Close to 700 teenagers had gathered on Utoya, and initial reports suggested that some tried to flee by swimming. CBS News reports that Kurt Lier, Oslo’s assistant chief of police, “had little information about what had happened on the island, but said if people are leaving island swimming, it is a ‘long swim.’” Hans-Inge Langø, a researcher at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI), says the “timing and targets [of the attacks are] too similar for this not to be connected.” The AP reports that Norwegian police say the two events were definitely connected.

The Pamela Connection:

UPDATE 1, Saturday, July 23, 12:16 a.m. EDT: Blogger Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs is reporting that the Oslo bombing/shooting suspect, Anders Behring Breivik, posted often on a Norwegian anti-immigration site and recommended a post by the prominent anti-Muslim blogger Pamela Geller, who spearheaded the US drive against the planned “Ground Zero mosque.” (We’ve previously covered her activities herehereherehere, and here.) LGF also asserts a link between Breivik and one of Geller’s guest bloggers, Fjordman.

Geller responded on her own website: “This is just a sinister attempt to tar all anti-jihadists with responsibility for this man’s heinous actions…this is war. And the left is vicious, amoral and depraved. They mean to win, and that is the only way they know how.”

UPDATE 2, Saturday, July 23, 11:06 a.m. EDT: Oddmy Estenstad, an employee of agricultural retailer Felleskjøpet, tells CNN that Utoya shooting suspect Anders Behring Breivik bought six tons of fertilizer from the company in May:

She did not think the order was strange at the time because the suspect has a farm, but after Friday’s explosion in Norway’s capital, Oslo, she called police because she knew the material can be used to make bombs.

“We are very shocked that this man was connected to our company,” said Estenstad. “We are very sad about what happened.”

UPDATE 3, Saturday, July 23, 11:09 a.m. EDT: According to the UK’s Daily Mirror, Anders Behring Breivik has been “preliminarily charged with acts of terrorism.” Norwegian police say the 32-year-old Breivik appears to be an extreme right-wing, Christian fundamentalist, due to postings on his website. NRK reports that the suspect is a member of an Oslo gun club, and “was exempted from military service, and thus…has no special education [from the Norwegian] Armed Forces.”

UPDATE 4, Saturday, July 23, 11:19 a.m. EDT: Norwegian media report on eyewitness accounts of the Utoya massacre. The Los Angeles Times also has the story:

Media reports say the gunman apparently used a handgun and a machine gun, and that police arrived at the island possibly 90 minutes after the shooting started. At midmorning Saturday, police were still searching the island for more bodies.  One wounded survivor, Adrian Pracon, described the gunman as “calm and controlled,” shooting people who tried to escape the island by swimming to the mainland…Pracon described his attempt to escape. “We started running down to the water and people had already undressed and started swimming.”

Pracon said he began swimming, but “after 150 meters … I realized I wouldn’t make it so I went back and saw him standing 10 meters from me shooting at the people who tried to swim over.”

From our Loonwatch Readers:

Dane Bargeld:

He has written a number of comments on norwegian website document.no:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://www.document.no/anders-behring-breivik/

He seems to be more intelligent than the average loon. His comments are reflective rather than emotional. He doesn’t seem crazier than the average loon. His last comment is from october 2010 though.

He’s expresses support for:

- The Vienna school of thought
- Political movements like Tea Party, PVV (Wilders), EDL and (norwegian) Progress Party
- Israel
- Christianity (he’s a protestant but dislikes modern day protestancism and suggest that christians should unite in the roman-catholic church)
- Countries like Japan and South Korea (for rejecting multiculturalism)

He dislikes:

- Islam
- Totalitarian ideologies
- Cultural marxism
- Multiculturalism

According to Norwegian reports, the organization this CHRISTIAN TERRORIST belonged to tried to establish links with the English Defense League — another Lieblingsorganization von Frau Geller.

Myrpou:

The swedish site realisten.se claim that Anders Behring Breivik claimed to be THE Fjordman over a year ago, so they initially reported when they got his name that Fjordman was the terrorist. However Robert Spencer claims it isn’t Fjordman and an article on Gates of Vienna claims the same, however the former was a bit suspicious to me, they didn’t allow any comments on that particlar article and made it clear that “the discussion was over”. If they’re certain that this guy isn’t fjordman wouldn’t they be more willing to prove it?

Eslaporte:

Breivik has had many posts on the site Document.no, an Islam-critical site that publishes news and commentary…Anders Breivik Behring has also commented on the Swedish news articles, where he makes it clear that he believes the media have failed by not being “NOK” Islam-critical…

As far as the Dutch connection, we still don’t know the total details about the 2009 Queen’s Day Apeldoorn attack – which there were accusations that the ethnic Dutchman, Karst Tates, was a radical right nutjob. The Dutch police appeared to whitewash the report and there appear to be a sloppy investigation of Tates’ past year up to his terrorist attack on the Dutch Royals.

Last April, we had a shoppingmall shooting where the shooter was an unabashed PVV voter and hated foreigners also. Are we going to see the are whitewash by Dutch police?

Wilders said in a statement on Saturday:
“I despise everything he stands for and everything he did.”

Look at the hypocricy, it’s stunning. What a reptilian farce, I mean can’t these muslim haters at least be loyal to one another? Anders at least is honest, but Geert Wilders is a smarmy liar, when he says he despises everything Anders stands for.
How can he say that, when he shares his goals and supports the PVV, is pro Zionist, supports the Israeli far right, anti Muslim,

Breivik wrote he was a backer of the “Vienna School of Thought,” which was against multiculturalism and the spread of Islam.

He also wrote he admired Geert Wilders, the populist anti-Islam Dutch politician, for following that school.

Wilders said in a statement on Saturday:
“I despise everything he stands for and everything he did.”

Norwegian:

The suspect is not, by all accounts, the blogger known as Fjordman. He is one of his followers in his preachings of class war. Fjordman is widely believed to be one of the two brothers Anfindsens, since part of OJ ANfindsens book about the necessity of the survival of the white race seems written by his brother and bears close resemblance to Fjordmans style of writing.

Norwegian national broadcaster NRK identified him as 32-year-old Anders Behring Breivik and said police searched his Oslo apartment overnight. NRK and other Norwegian media posted pictures of the blond, blue-eyed Norwegian.

“He is clear on the point that he wants to explain himself,” Roger Andresen told reporters Saturday.

National police chief Sveinung Sponheim told NRK that the suspected gunman’s Internet postings “suggest that he has some political traits directed toward the right, and anti-Muslim views, but whether that was a motivation for the actual act remains to be seen.”

Andersen said the suspect posted on websites with Christian fundamentalist tendencies. He did not describe the websites in any more details.

George Carty:

Here’s an extra interesting piece of info: the island camp had hosted a pro-Palestinian rally the day before. I wonder if the gunman got his dates mixed up?

Salam:

He has written a 1400 page islamophobic book where he described in detail how the bombing/massacre would go down. I take back what I said about his ideology not being extreme. This is fucking insane. He used this as a publicity stunt to spread his propaganda. Oh wow.

You can download the book in English here: http://www.sharepdfbooks.com/3TZOU0V52W6B/2083_-_A_European_Declaration_of_Independence.pdf.html

A quote from the book:
“7a. Apprehension
If you for some reason survive the operation you will be apprehended and arrested. This is the point where most heroic Knights would call it a day. However, this is not the case for a Justiciar Knight. Your arrest will mark the initiation of the propaganda phase.
7b. Your trial offers you a stage to the world”

When I thought this couldn’t get more surrealistic..

Damian:

This video calling for European Christians to take up arms against the Islam and the multicultural left seems to have been posted by Anders Breivik (here anglicised as “Andrew Berwick”) yesterday before he put his plans into action (please note: Youtube have removed original by Andrew Berwick, so this is a repost, which may also be moved):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mZ29eUVAxg

The video shows him holding a gun a the end. From the text of the video, it seems he is hoping to start a new Crusade, a civil war that will finally rid Europe of Islam once and for all.

His thinking on these issues is clearly influenced by Robert Spencer of “Jihad Watch”, who also calls for a new “Crusade” against Islam in his books. Much of what Breivik says in online comments comes straight out of Spencer’s thinking on these issues: e.g. that the leftists/multiculturalists are the greatest threat to Western civilisation, because they are facilitating the “Islamisation” of Europe:

http://translate.google.com/translate?client=firefox-a&hl=en&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&rurl=translate.google.com&twu=1&u=http://www.document.no/anders-behring-breivik/

In these comments Breivik cites Spencer’s “Jihad Watch”, as well as Pamela Geller’s anti-Islam/anti-leftist hate-site “Atlas Shrugs”, as sites that all Europeans should read.

Right… because when the right jumps on a Muslim terrorist to tarnish all Muslims, that’s perfectly reasonable. But when the Left jumps on an anti-immigration, anti-Muslim nationalist to show where the hate mongering against Muslims and immigrants leads – that’s just pure slander.

  2. corey Says:

    @jack
and according to jihad watch he is possibly a muslim I am not kidding.

  5. Jack Says:

Yeah, he’s a secret Muslim posing as a right-wing extremist to give anti-Muslim hysteria a bad name. Suddenly it all makes sense now, since his actions obviously bear the hall-marks of ‘sudden jihad syndrome’. How could I not have noticed before?

I knew this day was coming, but thought it would be the EDL setting off a bomb at a mosque.

Well — we see the usual knee jerk reaction was to blame Muslims – which includes the so-called “terrorism experts.” The reality is that the so-called “terrorism experts” are nothing more than the peanut galley (joined by people like Geller) who chase the ghosts of “jihadists in Europe.” Now – in the wee hours of this attack, we had the usual Blame-the-Muslims. And, this game of Blame-the-Muslims was not confined to just to ignorant bloggers and the usual Islamophobic suspects. I have seen writers and journalists that profess to have “expertise” in counter-terrorism engage in the Blame-the-Muslims game too.

THE “TERRORISM EXPERTS” ARE ALL WRONG AND 80+ PEOPLE ARE NOW DEAD~!

We need to reorient our intelligence and security away from Islamophobic obsession of “jihadists” and toward the threats from the radical right. Let’s end this Islamophobic obsession over “jihadists and Islamists” – and the counter-terrorism frameworks that amount to social control of Muslims.

From Norwegian newsite VG Nett -original in Norwegian:
QUOTE: In online debates marks Anders Behring Breivik as well read, and one with strong opinions about Norwegian politics. He promotes a very conservative opinions, which he also called nationalist. He expresses himself strongly opposed to multiculturalism – that cultural differences can live together in a community.

Breivik has had many posts on the site Document.no, an Islam-critical site that publishes news and commentary.

In one of the posts he states that politics today no longer revolves around socialism against capitalism, but that the fight is between nationalism and internationalism.

Anders Breivik Behring has also commented on the Swedish news articles, where he makes it clear that he believes the media have failed by not being “NOK” Islam-critical.

i don’t know if you’re completely unfamiliar with charles johnson or his website, littlegreenfootballs, but the fact of the matter is that johnson and his site was the hub from which pamela geller, robert spenser and fjordman spun off from.

fjordman began commenting at charles’ site in 2003 under the name “norwegian kafir” and commented on 803 threads before changing his name to fjordman. once he began blogging independently under that name, charles endeavored to promote his rhetoric to the u.s. audience, featuring his posts thirty-nine times with guest-blogger credit. these included screeds about “muslim rape epidemics” and the need to “destroy” european multiculturalism before it’s too late. as dark as fjordman’s rhetoric was, it only supplemented johnson’s own paranoid and bigoted commentary.

incidentally, in the same document which is cited above to prove that the oslo bomber was a fan of geller and fjordman, breivik approvingly cites johnson’s blog.

charle’s relationship with pamela geller is roughly analogous to pygmalian’s relationship to galatea. like fjordman, geller was at first a commenter who’s tips and comments were frequently promoted to headline items. geller eventually began her own blog, citing johnson as her “blogfather”. charles actively took her under his wing and gave her a paying gig in the frontline roster of his pajamas media venture, raising her profile to it’s current c-list status.

a nice picture of the two partying with one another: (link).

charles also plucked robert spenser from obscurity. the first incarnation of jihadwatch was coded pro-bono by charles because he admired spenser’s work.

the thing which causes a reasonable person to suspect johnson is that he prefers that everyone accept the implausible conceit that fjordman, geller and spenser radically changed their worldviews and morality at some point and to some degree which charles could no longer abide. what is obvious about this is that this conceit is meant to support the fantasy that charles was never a racist himself.

he has taken additional measures to support this fantasy which have included the wholesale deletion of his own bigoted rantings, as well as many of his approving links to geller, fjordman and spenser.

might i suggest that a good means toward covering this angle while not enabling a bigot’s charade would be to include charle’s culpability in nurturing the sick mindset which murdered eighty people in norway today in it’s appropriate, primary order.

    Salaam alaikum,

@Farlowe he does look kind of like a young Sting, doesn’t he?

Geller and her compatriots have inspired me to coin a new term: ‘Fearmusement’. I can’t help but feel both amusement at the insane conspiracy theories they put forth and their attempts to defend them, and themselves, from any criticism or implication in the results of their vehemently pro-Fascist anti-Islamic rhetoric, and fear in the fact that that rhetoric is eagerly swallowed by a very vocal minority who support them in almost everything they do unquestioningly.

Geller’s response showed me that she’s perfectly capable of being the pot that calls the kettle a smear-artist. There’s not a doubt in my mind that she’ll attempt to spin this and spin this until somehow, someway, she convinces herself and her followers that she’s the victim. And after all, isn’t that what a talented liar does? A bad liar will always try to convince you that what they’re telling you is true while believing it is false. A good liar will always try to convince you that what they’re telling you is true while pretending they believe it too. The best (and craziest) liars lie first to themselves, and when they’re convinced of such, they head to the masses to share their new (and erroneous) belief.

Insha’allah, people will catch on. They’ll understand who she really is and what she’s really doing, and what she’s doing is raking in the dough by hurling paranoid accusations at innocent people. In the footsteps of Prophet Jesus (pbuh), I pray she is guided by Allah (swt) into seeing what she’s doing is wrong, because if Allah (swt) doesn’t choose to guide her, she will most certainly be one of the losers on the Day of Judgement.

    Salaam alaikum wa rahmatullah,

Does it matter that most people assumed it was Islamists? I don’t see a problem or even a modicum of prejudice in that assumption. More than one Jihadist group took credit for it at first. They’re pathetic, and although most Muslims have no such tendency, I don’t see how that amounts to a serious judgement error. It wasn’t a Muslim, but the extremist Muslims will be killing civilians again and again and again. So I’m unconcerned that we may have pigeon holed extremist Muslims as capable of this- honestly who cares, how is it relevent when so many innocents are gone in the blink of an eye. It’s my opinion that we(the human race) should jettison religions, but i’ll not get into that…
Terrorists, be they right wing Nazi’s, Muslim or Christian or Jewish extremists all seem to have similar profiles. They’re loners, who struggled to form relationships, but usually educated and often vaguely intelligent. When they drift near these groups they are easily drawn in and scooped up because they’re desperate to feel wanted and part of something- especially something with power. Similar to the very common modern ‘spree killer’ (usually law abiding citizens who one day crack and kill many then themselves), their actions are clearly their attempt to reject the world that has rejected them and they wish for others to feel their pain. The profile speaks volumes and supports this idea- while many of them will believe strongly in whatever extreme ethos had the gravity to draw them in, be it Nazism or an extreme religious idea- this is merely a vehicle to propagate the hatred that has built within them as a result of the perceived injustices done unto them, that they have been collecting and tabulating for a long long time. This mentality is almost uniform among terrorists and spree killers- it might be a different path and/or a different ideology, but it brings the same result. The solution? We need to find a way to stop society rejecting people as such, how? I don’t really know, but I know it couldn’t hurt to stop putting each other into groups- religions, race, nationalities, gender… If children are shown that we are all one big family and we’re all in it together it would make for an immediate improvement. Einstein said ‘Nationalism is an infantile disease.’ I would put religion in the same category, one day the world will realise this, while you may not agree with that I think you would agree that until we make some serious changes to our world and societies more innocents will die, year in year out the world round. The key is not to group! Our family is the human race, our home is planet earth.

‘Suspicious attack and shootings have sympathy for PVV’

Anders Breivik Behring, the man suspected of the bombing and the shooting on the island, according to Fox News Utoya sympathy for Geert Wilders. On a Swedish news site he would have said that the Freedom Party is the only “true” conservative party. The media were not critical enough towards Islam.

  23. Norwegian Says:

The suspect is not, by all accounts, the blogger known as Fjordman. He is one of his followers in his preachings of class war. Fjordman is widely believed to be one of the two brothers Anfindsens, since part of OJ ANfindsens book about the necessity of the survival of the white race seems written by his brother and bears close resemblance to Fjordmans style of writing.

I think being an anti-muslim in Norway from this day will be a hell of a lot harder.

91 killed in Norway island massacre, capital blast

OSLO, Norway (AP) — A Norwegian dressed as a police officer gunned down at least 84 people at an island youth retreat before being arrested, police said Saturday. Investigators are still searching the surrounding waters, where people fled the attack, which followed an explosion in nearby Oslo that killed seven.

The mass shootings are among the worst in history. With the blast outside the prime minister’s office, they formed the deadliest day of terror in Western Europe since the 2004 Madrid train bombings killed 191.

Police official Roger Andresen told reporters that the total death toll was now 91 and that a suspect was in custody being questioned for both assaults and is cooperating with the investigators.

Though police did not release his name, Norwegian national broadcaster NRK identified him as 32-year-old Anders Behring Breivik and said police searched his Oslo apartment overnight.

  27. George Carty Says:

Here’s an extra interesting piece of info: the island camp had hosted a pro-Palestinian rally the day before. I wonder if the gunman got his dates mixed up?

  28. Anj Says:

First of all as a Muslim let me say that I’m absolutely horrified at the attacks in Norway. I would like to extend my condolances for the families that have lost loved ones. I hope the Muslims in Norway will open their mosques and houses to the people in norway in their hour of need.

The islamophobic blogosphere is on meltdown at the moment trying to tie this crime to islam. I mean the comment section in jihadwatch are just unbelievable.
Hopefully we will know a little more in 12/24 hours time.

    Peace

  29. KnowingTheTruth Says:

Let’s ask this question to ourselves here. What if he was a Muslim? Really think about about it. And what happened in Norway is very tragic, that pig who did all this should rot in jail for the rest of his life for what he did to them.

  30. Link182 Says:

I think the article should also draw attention to fact that Breivik is an ardent supporter of Geert Wilders (see here: http://www.islamophobia-watch.com/). It may even be possible that this attack had Islamaphobic motivations.

  31. Dane Bargeld Says:

He has written a number of comments on norwegian website document.no:

    http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://www.document.no/anders-behring-breivik/

He seems to be more intelligent than the average loon. His comments are reflective rather than emotional. He doesn’t seem crazier than the average loon. His last comment is from october 2010 though.

    He’s expresses support for:

    - The Vienna school of thought
    - Political movements like Tea Party, PVV (Wilders), EDL and (norwegian) Progress Party
    - Israel
    - Christianity (he’s a protestant but dislikes modern day protestancism and suggest that christians should unite in the roman-catholic church)
    - Countries like Japan and South Korea (for rejecting multiculturalism)

    He dislikes:

    - Islam
    - Totalitarian ideologies
    - Cultural marxism
    - Multiculturalism

  32. Daniel Says:

This is a terrible atrocity. There is no possibly rational reason for doing such an act.

If the suspect acted with others, I hope they quicky arrest them.

Hatred breed violence. One cannot use inflammatory rhetoric month after month and not expect someone to act on it. And it looks like someone did, and ninety people are dead.

  33. Jack Says:

“Maybe he has a faked birth certificate too…never know… maybe born in Pakistan…LOL!”

And then programmed to write islamophobe blather on the internet for some years and affiliating himself with a far-right anti-immigration, anti-Muslim party, leaving a trail even the most ardent racist couldn’t dismiss.

  34. Ian Gould Says:

“This is just a sinister attempt to tar all anti-jihadists with responsibility for this man’s heinous actions…”

    Yes, that’s terrible.

I’m, sure Muslims can;t begin to imagine what that feels like.

  35. aniseed Says:

is it possible to forward all the intelligence, if you want to call it that, that you and similar sites have about this man and his connections to the press and police. i do not have full trust in either of these organisations and maybe i’m being naive to think it would make a difference but i feel the truth should be out. Thanks for your work.

  36. David Says:

According to Norwegian reports, the organization this CHRISTIAN TERRORIST belonged to tried to establish links with the English Defense League — another Lieblingsorganization von Frau Geller.

  37. eslaporte Says:

As far as the Dutch connection, we still don’t know the total details about the 2009 Queen’s Day Apeldoorn attack – which there were accusations that the ethnic Dutchman, Karst Tates, was a radical right nutjob. The Dutch police appeared to whitewash the report and there appear to be a sloppy investigation of Tates’ past year up to his terrorist attack on the Dutch Royals.

Last April, we had a shoppingmall shooting where the shooter was an unabashed PVV voter and hated foreigners also. Are we going to see the are whitewash by Dutch police?

But … oh … you think that the “only terrorist attack” … the only one … in the Netherlands was the murder of Theo van Gogh!!! The murder of Theo van Gogh is milked and milked to justify a counter-terrorism strategy that amounts to social control of Muslims living in the Netherlands.

The Netherlands probably, already, suffer two radical right terrorist attacks … but they are not terrorist attacks because the terrorists are not Muslims! Let’s see if this horrible attack continues to be defined as “terrorism” or “just a madman that wanted to killed people.” “Terrorism,” it seems,” is just something “Muslims” do…

  38. Sam Seed Says:

The Daily Mail Online had this on it’s front page and it was attributed to Muslims and as a backlash against the cartoons published about the prophet.

Terror Experts my ass, more like Islamophobes dishing out more fear to everyone.

It is tragic that this has happened and my condolences to those affected.

  39. Garo Says:

Based on what I have read,so far,in the European and Middle Eastern press, one thing has emerged to be clear to me is the following:

Norwegian Anders Behring Brreivik is a Fundamental Christian Right Winger.

What does the above sentence imply?

It simply implies that terroristic mentality cannot possibly be hooked up to any particular religion. It is an integral part of the evil side of the human nature.Period.

  40. Nur Alia Says:

We should all look at ourselves now..doesnt matter who we are, or or religion.

This day has been a very hard one…and as a Muslimah, for me that sinking feeling when I look at the paper and see such a horrid act being committed…I say…not again…please…not again in the name of my faith.

I personally felt guilty and shameful. I dont know why…but I did.

Maybe my feeling has nothing to do with Islam…or maybe it has to do with what I learned being a Muslim. A crime is a crime, a victim is a victim, and a criminal is a criminal…I kept saying, but guilt and shame did not leave me.

I figured it out now, why I felt shame and guilt. It is because as a part of humanity, this is what I am capable of doing…this is what we are capable of doing…alone, under the flags of self righteousness…superiority, and a feeling that our way is the only rght way…and all others must submit, or we force them to…for thier own good.

To be honest…I was relieved when the suspect was caught…not so much because he would not be able to hurt anyone else…but because he was not a Muslim, expressed anti Muslim views, and was the exact opposite of the rhetoric and propaganda. In fact he was the ideological template for those who are spreading hatred in the public discourse…on diversity of people and ideas.

I know that some here too, are more disappointed that the evil doer is not a Muslim, than they care about the victims…thier familes…and Norway as a nation…and another pitiful blot on humanity. Lets be honest.

I am ashamed of this too.

I think we all have a little shame to admit…no matter what our religious or political views are. We as a humanity, by our blind mindset of defining our enemies by thier ethnicity, or their name, or thier faith, let this guy slip through our vigilance. He knew our weakness as a humanity, and exploited it to commit his autrocity.

Some of us will learn not to define our enemy…some of us will deny that his views are our enemy…and some of us will take pieces from puzzles not related…to create a sorted mozaic to insist on contining the blind ideology that helped this man slip through our vigilance. What lessons we learn here…personally and as a humanity will write our history.

    May Allah guide us all.

  41. mp11 Says:

This had to happen at some point, people do crazy things when they are scared and desperate. For the last decade, Robert Spencer, Geller and co have been telling you that:

1 Within our midst, we have an overwhelming majority of Muslims who are dedicated to overthrowing our way of life and killing all those who refuse to submit to Islam.

    2. Then we have a tiny minority (a handful) of cultural muslims who are by definition impotent, cannot be trusted (because of taqqiya its impossible to tell who belongs to the handful and who belongs to the overwhelming majority), who are at risk of radicalization (because they havent completely jettisoned Islam) and whose children would in any case be a potential threat in the future (second and third generation muslims becoming more “conservative”).

***Read the shooter’s post on moderate Nazis and moderate Muslims

    3. On top of that, they are multiplying faster than any other groups (the demographic weapon), reforming Islam is impossible and time is running out.

And YOUR dhimmi government won’t do anything about it?

***Read the shooter’s comments on how Geert Wilders is the only true party in Europe.

If I TRULY believed that what Robert and Pamela were saying is true, I would also consider taking matters into my hands.

  42. eslaporte Says:

The most radicalized individual in the Western world is Geert Wilders — who is allowed to freely travel to radicalize others in the Western world.

The presence of Geert Wilders as a frequent visitor to the US since Spring 2009 could have radicalized Americans to carry out attacks on Muslim communities. What should be investigated by a university or something like the Southern Poverty Law Center is what motivated individuals to attack Muslims communities and people perceived as Muslims or “Leftists.”

We should actually try to get an effort to BAN Geert Wilders from setting foot on US soil. It would be inappropriate for Wilders to come to the 10th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks to give another hate speech and radicalize others in light of the violence and terrorism Geert Wilders has helped foster throughout the Western world.

We should have Wilders BANNED from setting foot in the US!

  43. M.Nieuweboer Says:

[sarcasm mode]We Dutch have something again to be proud of again: Breivik specifically referred to Wilders as his source of inspiration.[/sarcasm mode]
Forget it folks, since a decade our so The Netherlands are not the most liberal and tolerant country anymore.

And given that he was a contributing blogger for Jihad Watch under the same name (see Little Green Footballs), I am outraged that Spencer hasn’t been cooperating with the police like he accuses Muslims of not doing. They are still going to blame this on Islam, that if Muslims hadn’t immigrated to Norway, he wouldn’t have done this, blah blah blah. This type of rhetoric will certainly draw hearings, profiling, and other types of scrutiny as a result of this horror (rolls eyes).

  48. Khushboo Says:

^Spencer would never ever admit his mistakes. It would’ve made him a half-decent human being if he did and that ain’t happening. Jihad Watch should seriously be shut down!

  49. Perseveranze Says:

“When a Muslim extremist goes on a killing spree and ends up killing scores of Americans we call him a terrorist. When a white right wing Christian goes on a killing spree based on his beliefs and kills scores of people we call him a mad man. “

  50. Steve Says:

I posted a blog about this, now what I found really interesting around his rants was his attack on his own faith.

“I myself am a Protestant and baptized / confirmed to me by my own free will when I was 15. But today’s Protestant church is a joke. Priests in jeans who march for Palestine and churches that look like the minimalist shopping centers. I am a supporter of an indirect collective conversion of the Protestant church back to the Catholic. In the meantime, I vote for the most conservative candidates in church elections.”

It’s more noteworthy that just days before this tragedy Norway was giving full support to Abbas in pushing a for a UN recognised Palestinian state. I find it incredible he was able to buy 6 tons of fertiliser.

  51. Dane Bargeld Says:

    @sabriyah

Breivik and Fjordman are two different persons. Fjordman is also much older than 32 btw. However, Breivik does indeed seem to admire Fjordman.

  52. Salam Says:

I’m a Norwegian and I’ve read through pretty much everything he has written, and there’s little that indicates that he is a Christian fundamentalist (by the same standards pretty much every Muslim would be considered a fundamentalist) nor is his ideology “extreme”. He opposes racism (ethnocentrism) and nazism (which he considers to be a leftist ideology and compares it with Marxism and Islam). Though, he seems paranoid in regards to the ruling elite (cultural marxists) who he believes to have a hidden agenda to destroy western culture and create a socialist utopia (same old story).

So I’d rather say that it was the result of an absurd hatred towards the ruling elite. And of course, a fucked up individual.

  53. eslaporte Says:

    @ Perseveranze

    Yep – that’s right!

It is politically correct definitions of “terrorism,” which also includes politically correct definitions of “radicalization” and which groups it is politically correct to place under surveillance and control. The right-wing can never be “radicalized” and it’s explained as “freedom of speech” – not hate and radicalization. It’s only Muslims that can be “radicalized” – and Muslims’ expressions of religious practice, political views and forming groups are “markers of radicalization.”

Political correctness is also the reason why Geert Wilders is allowed to travel freely through airports and the scholar Tariq Ramadan cannot freely travel and enter the US.

What’s f—ed up is politically correct, counter-terrorism practice with an obsessive focus on persecuting Muslims in the name of “security.”

The omnipotence of Al Qaeda and meaninglessness of “Terrorism”
    http://www.salon.com/news/terrorism/?story=/opinion/greenwald/2011/07/23/nyt
    By Glenn Greenwald

But now it turns out that the alleged perpetrator wasn’t from an international Muslim extremist group at all, but was rather a right-wing Norwegian nationalist with a history of anti-Muslim commentary and an affection for Muslim-hating blogs such as Pam Geller’s Atlas Shrugged, Daniel Pipes, and Robert Spencer’s Jihad Watch. Despite that, The New York Times is still working hard to pin some form of blame, even ultimate blame, on Muslim radicals (h/t sysprog):

Terrorism specialists said that even if the authorities ultimately ruled out Islamic terrorism as the cause of Friday’s assaults, other kinds of groups or individuals were mimicking Al Qaeda’s brutality and multiple attacks.

“If it does turn out to be someone with more political motivations, it shows these groups are learning from what they see from Al Qaeda,” said Brian Fishman, a counterterrorism researcher at the New America Foundation in Washington.

Al Qaeda is always to blame, even when it isn’t, even when it’s allegedly the work of a Nordic, Muslim-hating, right-wing European nationalist. Of course, before Al Qaeda, nobody ever thought to detonate bombs in government buildings or go on indiscriminate, politically motivated shooting rampages. The NYT speculates that amonium nitrate fertilizer may have been used to make the bomb because the suspect, Anders Behring Breivik, owned a farming-related business and thus could have access to that material; of course nobody would have ever thought of using that substance to make a massive bomb had it not been for Al Qaeda. So all this proves once again what a menacing threat radical Islam is.

Breivik’s right-wing pro-Israel line, combined with his antipathy to Muslims, is just one example of the European far-right’s ideology, exemplified by groups such as the English Defense League (EDL). The EDL, a group Breivik praises, along with the anti-Muslim politician Geert Wilders, share with Breivik an admiration for Israel.

Anti-Muslim activists and right-wing Zionists share a political narrative that the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is a “clash of civilizations,” one in which Judeo-Christian culture is under attack by Islam. Israel, in this narrative, is the West’s bulwark against the threat that Islam is posing to Europe and the United States. The nexus of Islamophobia and right-wing Zionism was clearly on display during last summer’s “Ground Zero mosque” hysteria, which culminated in a rally where Geller and Wilders addressed a crowd that included members of the EDL waving Israeli flags.

This comment by Breivik is one example of the twisted way in which Islamophobia and a militant pro-Israel ideology fit together:

  76. Damian Says:

This video calling for European Christians to take up arms against the Islam and the multicultural left seems to have been posted by Anders Breivik (here anglicised as “Andrew Berwick”) yesterday before he put his plans into action:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v

The video shows him holding a gun a the end. From the text of the video, it seems he is hoping to start a new Crusade, a civil war that will finally rid Europe of Islam once and for all.

His thinking on these issues is clearly influenced by Spencer, who also calls for a new “Crusade” against Islam in his books. Much of what Breivik says in online comments comes straight out of Spencer’s thinking on these issues: e.g. that the leftists/multiculturalists are the greatest threat to Western civilisation, because they are facilitating the “Islamisation” of Europe:

    http://translate.google.com/tr

In these comments Breivik cites Spencer’s “Jihad Watch”, as well as Pamela Geller’s anti-Islam/anti-leftist hate-site “Atlas Shrugs”, as sites that all Europeans should read.

I simply analyzed the things he has written on various norwegian blogs. There is no doubt that he is a sociopath with absurd political views, but at the time I thought it was more-so a hatred towards the political elites (since he attack the youth-camp of the Norwegian Labour Party instead of say a muslim gathering).

Though, if you’d read a couple of comments down you would see that I have already taken back my statement after skim-reading parts of his book.

Terror Attack in Norway Linked to Right Wing Islamophobe
    http://www.theamericanmuslim.org/tam.php/features/articles/norwegian/0018674
    by Sheila Musaji

WHAT DO WE KNOW SO FAR ABOUT THE SUSPECT?

The man accused of being responsible for both the bombing and the attack on the youth camp which killed at least 91 people, is Anders Behring Breivik. He is a Norwegian with strong right-wing political views who has posted a great deal on right wing sites.

A complete list of Brevers’ comments on a Norwegian site called document.no has now been put on Google translate.

In his rambling comments, he praises the EDL and SIOE as well as the Jihad Watch regular poster “Fjordman”. He seems to believe that he and these groups belong to something called the “Vienna School”, and in a post on 12/3/09, he says “I ran the business a few years while I studied and earned a few million so I could finance a inntektsløs politically active life. (Vienna school of thought) I now use these funds to be able to work full time to further develop / promote the Vienna Academy (Vienna school of thought) that Fjordman, Bat Yeor, Spencer + many others have already contributed so much till. The last three years I worked full time with a cultural conservative works that will help to further develop / promote these political doctrines further.”

Based on his comments on this site, he seems to be a Christian fundamentalist, who is opposed to multi-culturalism and immigration, and very anti-Muslim. He suggests that he is a Mason.

Whether this will prove to be accurate or not we will have to see, but Charles Johnson reports that there is a post on a Norwegian blog which claims that “Anders Behring Breivik has previously driven the blog Fjordman and later for many years been a writer for the anti-Muslim and Zionist bloggers Gates of Vienna and Jihad Watch, under the pseudonym Fjordman. On July 17, released Anders Behring Breivik a message on Twitter where he writes that “One person with a belief is Equal To The force of 100,000 WHO Have only not raised.”

As to whether or not Breivik and Fjordman are the same, Richard Silverstein also reports that Norwegian bloggers are reporting that Breivik is the author of a blog called Fjordman and that he’s guest blogged for Atlas Shrugs, Jihad Watch and Gates of Vienna “for years.” As Breivik, he publicly praised one of her posts. Elise Hendrick has translated a passage from Realisten which confirms that Fjordman and Breivik are one and the same: According to his own statements, Anders Behring Breivik previously operated the blog ‘Fjordman’, and later wrote for many years under the pseudonym Fjordman for the anti-Muslim and Zionist blogs Gates of Vienna and Jihad Watch.

Breivik wrote he was a backer of the “Vienna School of Thought,” which was against multiculturalism and the spread of Islam.

He also wrote he admired Geert Wilders, the populist anti-Islam Dutch politician, for following that school.

  92. Salam Says:

He is obviously an “extreme” person, but his ideological standpoint (from what he has written under his full name on the internet) has’t been particularly extreme. Ie. they didn’t stand out from the average anti-muslim, anti-multiculturalism comments that flood the internet – on the contrary he seemed ‘fairly’ rational in comparison (even though it feels wrong to use that word).

The thing that stood out to me was his paranoia and hatred towards the ruling elite which he referred to as cultural marxists (he believed that Europe had been controlled by cultural marxists ever since the soviet flag was raised on the German Reichstag).

This led me to believe that his hatred was directed at the ruling elite for ‘flooding’ Europe with muslims, undermining our culture, values and so on and so forth, and that the muslims were a passive piece in this play. Similar to the anti-semitic theories that the Jews use Muslims in a divide and conquer technique. There was also little that indicated that he was a christian fundamentalist (apart from the fact that he was conservative).

Well, obviously I was wrong, and I’m sorry if I gave the impression that I was in any way defending this savage, cold hearted mass murderer.

  93. How Islamic inventors changed the world www.1001inventions.com Says:

    Sunday July 24,2011

    By James Fielding

THE Right-wing psychopath behind Norway’s bloodbath was involved with the English Defence League, the Sunday Express has learned.

Twisted Anders Behring Breivik, who left 92 dead in a co-ordinated bomb and gun rampage, advised the EDL how to stir up anti-Islamic hatred.

He not only admired the far-Right group, but also harboured dreams of setting up Norway’s version to combat the country’s growing Muslim population.

In an email to the Norwegian political website Document.no, Breivik revealed he had discussed tactics with the EDL and another group Stop the Islamification of Europe. He expressed his admiration for the way the EDL provoked overreactions from Islamic youth and Marxists.

“The reaction has been repeatedly shown on the news which has boosted EDL’s ranks,” he said. “I must say I am very impressed with how quickly they have grown but this has to do with smart tactical choice by management.

“EDL is an example and a Norwegian version is the only way to prevent the harassment of Norwegian cultural conservatives from other fronts.”

Last night Weyman Bennett, joint secretary of Unite Against Fascism, said: “If the terrorist atrocities in Oslo and Utoya turn out to be the work of neo-Nazis, it wouldn’t be the first time this has happened.

“The Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 was initially blamed on Muslims, but was in fact carried out by the far-Right.”

Attempts to contact the EDL leadership in Britain went unanswered last night.

Here someone at Al Jazeers who has: A manifesto for a Muslim-free Europe, an Infidel-free Middle East -http://blogs.aljazeera.net/europe/2011/07/24/manifesto-muslim-free-europe-infidel-free-middle-east

I’ve got it now open, and its a terrorist manual for the radical right. It talks about attacking oil refineries and has tacit threats against European leaders, including President Barroso. The encouragement to terrorist violence is justified largely with Bat Ye’or insane Eurabia myth and the crackpot myths promoted by Geert Wilders — that Europe is “being Islamified.”

Ohhh – but this is — well — free speech!

  97. eslaporte Says:

    @NassirH

There’s a lot of the crackpot notions from Bat Ye’or and Fortyun and accusations of “political correctness.”

About Islam I recommend essentially everything written by Robert Spencer. Bat Ye’or’s
books are groundbreaking and important, though admittedly not always easy to read.
The Legacy of Jihad by Andrew Bostom should be considered required reading for all
those interested in Islam. It is the best and most complete book available on the subject
in English, and possibly in any language. Ibn Warraq’s books are excellent, starting with
his Defending the West . Understanding Muhammad by the Iranian ex-Muslim Ali Sina is
also worth reading, as is Defeating Jihad by Serge Trifkovic.

    Instead of “neo-Nazi” I’d call him a “neo-Crusader”.

  107. Salam Says:

I’d avoid the term neo-nazi at least. He is pro gays’ rights, pro Israel, anti-racist, anti multiculturalism and anti-muslim. This is pretty far from the ideological standpoint of (neo) nazis. Perhaps a neo-fascist, anti-muslim zionist? Maybe its a bit long ;p

  108. Jack Cope Says:

I think neo-nazi fits Salan; after all the nazis were happy to twist their already twisted ideology if needs be. For instance, they were pretty ‘pro-Israel’ in that they waved the Jews living in their areas off to that patch of land as a good way of getting ‘rid’ of them and causing tension and problems for British controlled Palestine. Heck they probably even armed the Stern Gang who certainly made moves to form an alliance with them! What I am saying is that nazis are and their ilk are quite prepared to be ‘pro-gay’ etc *when it fits them and serves their purpose* regardless of their true beliefs or intentions.

  109. Zakariya Ali Sher Says:

    @ Salam:

    > I’d avoid the term neo-nazi at least. He is pro gays’ rights, pro Israel,
    > anti-racist, anti multiculturalism and anti-muslim.

How can he be all of those things? He may CLAIM to be anti-racist, but it’s kind of hard to be anti-racist when you are also anti-multiculturalism. Unless you tolerate people of other skin colors and ethnicities… as long as they dress, talk, look and act just like you. Same with the anti-Muslim thing. Wanna bet he had a special hatred for Arabs and Turks? That would be racism.

I suspect that if he were pressed he would also have a certain degree of anti-Semitism…

  110. Salam Says:

This is a new kind of far-right which has developed in the years after 9/11, which, in my opinion at least, has little to do with nazism. I’m referring to the counter-jihad movement which tends to look at the world as a struggle between the western world and Islam (or in Anders’ case; an all out war, in which the ruling elite were traitors).

This movement differs from nazism in that it doesn’t focus on ethnicity, but rather what you could call cultural-racism. It’s also pro-Israel because the Jews are on the frontline fighting the islamic hordes. In addition, they defend “western values” in contrast to Islam, even if that means gays’ and women’s rights. They also tend to support a free market rather than a socialist one (inspiration from the right wing in America, I suppose).

You can call him a neo-nazi if you want, but it would be more so a political curse-word rather than a precise definition of the ideology he supports.

I mean, c’mon you guys, let’s do the math: McVeigh in 1995, Breivick in 2011, and if we simply subtract 17, 495 of the 17, 497 Islamic terrorist attacks since 9-11, we’re even.
