Jewish group fights beach harassment

Anti-assimilation organization warns girls bathing on Israel’s seashores not to be fooled by Arab men posing as Jews

The Organization for Prevention of Assimilation in the Holy Land (Lehava) has decided to start “defending the daughters of Israel” on the country’s beaches.

According to the organization, many Arab men are posing as Jews, courting and harassing the beautiful women. In response, a “coast guard” aimed at fighting the alleged phenomenon has been set up.

In recent weeks, Lehava members have been handing out dozens of leaflets to Jewish women on the beaches of Bat Yam, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Caesarea and Eilat, asking them to maintain their Jewishness and not to give in to the non-Jewish men’s appeals.

The organization decided to do something after receiving complaints from many women who claimed to be harassed by non-Jewish men on the beach.

“Last year we discovered that there are many gentiles arriving at the beaches, but not in search of the sun or water,” said Benzi Gopstein, one of Lehava’s leaders.

“Due to the multiple complaints,” he explained, “we decided to promote a campaign at the start of the bathing season this year in order to prevent situations in which girls discover that the ‘Yossi’ they are dating is actually ‘Yusuf’, prevent sexual harassment and assimilation.

“The volunteers handing out the leaflets are all seculars, as the religious public only visits segregated beaches, which don’t have the Arab problem. We’ve also started distributing a clip on Facebook and YouTube and we hope the girls will open their eyes.”

‘There are enough Jewish men around’

Gopstein noted that the “coast guard” is also called “The committee for defending girls on beaches across Israel“, and that its members are volunteers living in the beach area.

He said that the patrol members use convincing methods only. “We turn to the girls with a plea: ‘There are enough good Jewish men you can go out with.’”

He stressed that “the letter of the rabbis’ wives (calling on Jewish girls not to date Arabs) was intended for the religious public. Now we are turning to the secular public and saying that you don’t have to be a religious girl in order to marry a Jew, you don’t have to be religious in order to want your son to remain Jewish, and its part of the people of Israel’s duty to remain Jewish.

“At the moment we are operating in several cities, but I believe that following the clips we’ll reach other places too.”

Wonder what would happen to Jewish guys or girls at the Gaza Beach, Beirut or even Sharm el-Sheikh, for example, even if they didn’t pretend to be something else they are. Or Arab girls pretending to be Jewish…

The reek of hypocrisy and cheap propaganda shots is kinda nauseating.

Michael: “If there really was Apartheid in Israel would the Arabs be able to go to beaches, caffee houses etc. to try to seduce Jewish girls?”

In Apartheid South Africa and Jim Crow America blacks went to beaches and coffee houses too. I guess that proves there was no racism and we all got it wrong.
Michael just for believing Arab men are out there to “seduce Jewish girls” really shows your true RACIST colors…one question: African-American men who were lynched did they had it coming because after all they were “after White girls”?

(And yes, I know she would hardly be a Bikini babe anymore, but she coudl still go to a beach and get a flyer. ;) .)

I would find it soooo funny if a Holocaust Surviver throws such a fit going “KEEPING YOUR RACE PURE!? DO YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO ME THE LAST TIME I HEARD THAT CRAP!” as these people deserve this wake up call.

“Apparently not, since by correcting me you seem to be comparing “Zionist Extremists” to Nazis”

well ofcourse I am since they believe in wiping Palestinians off “their country” and putting them in internment camps, kicking them out of their homes, killing them incl. women and children, etc. Ofcourse I’ll compare them to Nazis.

“I’ve long since learned to just roll my eyes and move one whenever the state of Israel enters into discussion in this site”

Uh, no you don’t! This is just a fine example of you not moving on.

“I think those serve a much, much greater, and better, purpose enlightening people than these sophomoric “Hey, look, they can be bad, too!” type of articles”

That’s done to show the hypocrisy and double standard of these right-wing extremists who think only Muslims are evil.

@Mindy…I’m sure there are a lot of very good jews who stand’s up for justice, and i’m sure you’re one of them, but sadly, i think zionism and the creation of isreal messed-up pretty mutch the heads of a lot of jews as well, what’s even worse unfortunately, is that its even kind of corrupted the fine religion of judaism…Shalom

Why are my fellow Jews acting like those who persecuted them??? :(

Well, well, what have we here? We have a group, let’s say group A, males. Then we’ve got group Y, females. The group Y females are being warned about group A males pretending to represent group Y males. There’s neither mention of people representing group A who do not pretend to represent group Y males nor estimations on how common a trait of being dishonest is among the group A males.

Does that make all group A males dishonest? And what does that make out of a person who alleges or even implies that?

  • Sahra

@Skhan..LOL, you right, what if Moses turn out to be Musa???

“you don’t have to be religious in order to want your son to remain jewish, and it’s part of the people of isreal’s duty to remain jewish”

With that sobering note, then can one assume that there is no need anymore for the torah and the religious believes system of judaism, to remain a jew, since clearly judaism has become an “ethnic” base believe system, more than a set of religious convictions one.

But there is also, a lot of seculars in isreal who don’t believe in the doctrine of judaism, which technicaly makes them athiests, so then how come they can remain still a “jew”, at the same time?? Can one be athiest and a jew at the same time??

Gee, no wonder why jews are having an identities crises, when they ask themselfs what is it really mean to be jew, and no wonder also why a lot of people are having a hard time understanding the religion of judaism, since the creation of isreal….Salam

“not Israel, but the Zionist extremists. Exaggerate much??”

Apparently not, since by correcting me you seem to be comparing “Zionist Extremists” to Nazis.

I’ve long since learned to just roll my eyes and move one whenever the state of Israel enters into discussion in this site. In my opinion, what Loonwatch does best is exposing the hatred of imbeciles like Spencer or Wilders, or teaching people what Islam really is. I think those serve a much, much greater, and better, purpose enlightening people than these sophomoric “Hey, look, they can be bad, too!” type of articles.

Ethiopian community hit hard by discrimination

Examples of racism in Israel in 2007: a school that prides itself on its low number of Ethiopian students; parents requesting Ethiopian children be removed from their children’s kindergarten; a teacher that says ‘the student is a nuisance not only to Ethiopians but also to the Israeli students in the class.’ Organizations looking out for Ethiopians unveil the true state of racism in Israel

I’ve actually seen an opposing study, done in sweden i think, where they found even in secular families where gender equality is practiced, children tend to choose the religion of their father. The effect would only be increased in more traditionally patriarchal societies and religious traditions.

Disinformation, ignorance and lies! What do you think would happen to a Muslim girls fooling around with non Muslims males? In Israel there is no
Apartheid and Jews in Israel are traditionally much lesser racist than in most part of the world. If there really was Apartheid in Israel would the Arabs be able to go to beaches, caffee houses etc. to try to seduce Jewish girls? Would the Arabs be able to have members in parliament, obtain commanding functions in the army, police and as civil servant (juge in the supreme court for instance), share the same room in hospitals, travel on the same busses, receive equal social benefits etc.. All that notwithstanding their hostility to the state who feeds them.. If some souces warn against Arabs trying to seduce Jewish girls it is simply because a couple of thousands of them were already abducted, forced to convert to Islam, sequestrated and abused (just as everywhere else in the Muslim world Copts in Egypt for instance). Would you accept that to happen to your own daughter? I am amazed about the huge ignorance and stupidity displayed by some talk backers..I can eventually understand your website being anti-Zionist since it is it’s “raison d’etre” and obviously serves specific agenda..cheap anti-Israel propaganda! Have a nice day of misplaced hatred agains Israel..

I heard that sociological studies have shown that the mother has most influence on the religious persuasion of children. So Muslim legal thinkers might want to evaluate the notion that it’s wrong for a Muslim woman to marry a non-Muslim husband.

More intermarriage means more communities getting to live with each other on a day to day basis, means the corrosion of prejudices.
