Sydney schoolboy was beaten ‘for being a Muslim’

A schoolboy from Sydney’s north was brutally bashed and verbally abused by more than 20 students for being Muslim, the boy has claimed. Hamid Mamozai, 15, was allegedly hit up to a dozen times by two fellow students at Asquith Boys’ High School on Wednesday as several more cheered and hurled racial abuse from the sidelines.

“[They were saying] hit him more, hit him more, he deserves it, you terrorists, go back to where you came from, go blow something up,” Hamid told Channel 10. He said he was kneed in the face four of five times and hit up to 15 times in the face. Hamid was taken to hospital unconscious and with internal bleeding but suffered no serious injuries.

Najia, Hamid’s sister, said he had been subjected to racial abuse at the school for up to two years and was “emotionally and mentally sick” because of it. “The boy is scared … he doesn’t get out of the house,” she said.

His mother, Hosna, who fled war-torn Afghanistan 20 years ago, said she had repeatedly complained to the school to no effect. “I just want to know why this is happening, why the principal doesn’t care that students are being bullied, why don’t they stop it? I want other parents to know why this is happening,” she said.

Asquith Boys’ High declined to comment last night. In response to inquiries from the Herald, a spokesman for the Department of Education said one student had been suspended for 20 days and the police had been informed. Teachers provided immediate assistance to Hamid and called his family and an ambulance when the incident occurred, the spokesman said. Hamid and his family have been offered counselling and the school has arranged to meet with Mrs Mamozai this morning.

“Racism is not tolerated by Asquith Boys’ High School, which disciplines students engaged in such behaviour and supports students subjected to it,” the spokesman said. “Disciplinary action has been taken against students who have previously used racist language to the injured student. Due to the police investigation, it is inappropriate to comment further on the incident at this stage.”

So cruel..One day very soon us Muslim will get JuSTice!!

The boys were standing on the sidelines screaming abuse and taunting, “hit him more, hit him more, he deserves it, you terrorists, go back to where you came from, go blow something up”? If they’re telling him to blow something up then that’s incitement towards terrorism! These kids should be in the SuperMax prison! Australia should have implemented its anti-terror laws.

We hear a lot from these anti-Muslim bigots about how al-Quran and Islam invites people to violence. While we’re preaching peace; they’re calling our Islam deficient because we’re not blowing things up. That’s an incitement to violence! These anti-Muslim folk sound like a massive national security threat and they should be treated as such.

woah,,and where are all those people fighting for human rights??? do u have to be in a certain religion for that??? its sad that some people are blind to these kinds of things..:(

What a cowardly, dirty thig t do. Bullying at school is not “all right, they’ll grow out of it” Such individuals deserve a taste of their own medicine and if someone did to my kid anything half as bad I would give him the thrashing he so richly deserves! If only to remove the danger for my kid. Would some of these drive my kid to suicide (God forbid!) I ‘d find him and pay him back.

  • Lo

Sadly, bullies get away unpunished all the time. Even when they drive gay students to suicide they only get a slap on the wrist, because in the end they’re just “kids who don’t know better”. I think we as adults give too much leeway to children these days. “Oh, that’s just what kids do”, “he’ll grow out of it”, “he’s still a child”, “he has a whole life ahead of him, let’s not ruin it by tainting his permanent record”. (What went unsaid is that not punishing a teenager for something criminal is way more destructive to his future than a mark on his permanent record.)

The reason why we have this problem to begin with? “We were just as bad when we were their age but then we grew up and we turn out alright”. Unpunished bullies have children and become teachers. The cycle is complete.

Farlowe problem with that is muslim parents special indian Paki parents think that if they send there kids to karate class or them self buy a firearm and take it to firing range that people will be think they are practicing Jihad and getting ready to do something and call the Feds that will come arrest them there is allot of fear in the community and non muslim have been so brainwashed by anti muslims that they do think if Muslims do Karate or shoot gun they are practicing Jihad

  • JD

Well that happened to me right after 9/11 he in US. someone at work asked how was your trip to New york and are you going to blow something up i was about 17 at that time so it was not that bad but still this kid is half that age and raciest comment have been made to me at work and other place even year after 9/11 so i know how he feels

  • Farlowe

“As a Muslim I feel it is a must to give our children the tools to defend themselves!
I personally send my children to martial arts class.”

I totally agree with that. Don’t put up with bullying at school. When I was bullied by idiots in High School for being the son of a “preacher” I occasionally had to use a cricket bat to protect myself from the hoons.

  • Isa

They don’t care for the simple reason that they are evil. I know it is simplistic, but it is the truth. It has been ten years since 9/11, and they are still using it as an excuse to beat up and kill Muslims all across the Western world, which means this was already on their minds to begin with and they are just using 9/11 as a justification to fulfill their selfish desires.

  • mindy1

Sigh, has it come to this? How wrong :(

“Unless their aborigines, it’s typical hypocrisy for these racists to tell anyone else to “go back to where they came from.” The racists can go back to Europe (or where ever else) *they* came from.”

While I agree with that sentiment in general I think the question should be asked “How long does a people have to live in a country before they considered to be indigenous”. One hundred years? Two hundred years? Three hundred years? A thousand years?
My English family have been in Australia for “only” 221 years and probably have procreated with aboriginals during that time. Does that mean I am indigenous? Or am I a “white invader”?

    According to this report

    http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-09-aboriginal-australians-explorers.html

Australian aborigines were the earliest (70,000 years ago) indigenous people across Europe, Asia and Australia and were probably overrun by the later (20,000 years later) migrations which came out of Africa.

  • Anj

As a Muslim I feel it is a must to give our children the tools to defend themselves!
I personally send my children to martial arts class.
In cinjunction with that they must work hard at their education. It’s the only way I feel!

  • Nur Alia

    Wow…the cowards these bigots are…

20 boys beating single one…teenagers beating 71 year old men, firebombing in the middle of the night. I think it reflects on thier cowardness more than they know.

  • Crow

The scumbags that beat this kid up are only behaving as their dim-witted, low-life parents taught them to behaveg

  • Hatethehaterz

Unless their aborigines, it’s typical hypocrisy for these racists to tell anyone else to “go back to where they came from.” The racists can go back to Europe (or where ever else) *they* came from.

Sometimes, going to the media is the best route. Schools will ALWAYS want to cover their asses when the cameras start rolling. It’s sad to say, but sometimes it’s true. Bullying is a huge problem in the schools here in the US, and there are more than a few teachers (and administrators) who are willing to turn a blind eye, sometimes even encourage it. I’m not entirely sure of the reasons, but it doesn’t surprise me. I think Mrs. Mamozai made the right call here, and I think that other Muslim parents in Australia need to follow her example. Instead of being victims – as too many European Muslims have allowed themselves to, I’m sad to say – we should be standing up for ourselves, our community, our culture and faith. Just my two cents.

  • Farlowe

Asquith is a high socioeconomic area so this sort of thing is unusual there. I went to school in Sydney’s West where being rumbled 5 times a day was pretty standard, well at least back when I went to school. We had a school teacher who used to teach us karate. It cam in handy at lunchtime when Year 11 would take on Year 12 on the football oval. I used to get singled out because my parents were “preachers”. Ahhh the good old days…..

Australia is no stranger to racism. a sad reality.

15 year old are influenced by the environment they live in, to behave in such manner. These are the fruits of anti-Muslim rhetoric.
