Rick Santorum Claims He Supports TSA Using Ethnic And Religious Profiling Of Younger Muslim Males

It just gets crazier in the GOP.

Rick Santorum Claims He Supports TSA Using Ethnic And Religious Profiling Of Younger Muslim Males

Andrea Stone (Huffington Post)

One of the most devout Christians in the GOP field endorsed singling out Muslims for extra screening by the Transportation Security Administration while the only African-American candidate called for racial profiling by another name.

“Obviously, Muslims would be someone you look at, absolutely,” said former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum. “The radical Muslims are the people committing these crimes, by and large, with younger males” also deserving of more scrutiny at airport checkpoints.

Herman Cain said he was in favor of “targeted identification,” another way of saying some people look more suspicious than others. “If you take a look at the people who have tried to kill us it would be easy to identify what that profile looks like.” But when moderator Wolf Blitzer suggested that focusing on one sort of person would be like sngling out Christians or Jews, Cain rejected the premise as “simplifying.”

Rep. Ron Paul, as is wont in these debates, differed from his rivals. After Santorum noted that Muslims would be “your best candidates” for extra screening, the Texas congressman said, “What if they look like Timothy McVeigh?” referring to the white Christian ex-soldier convicted in 1995’s Oklahoma City bombing.

“That’s digging a hole for ourselves,” Paul said.

  • Black Infidel

Ron Paul also probably anti-black, anti-native American, anti-Asian etc..

  • Black Infidel

It doesn’t surprise that Ron Paul is anti-Hispanic since he has connections with Stormfront and other white nationalist. Ron Paul is not that much different from the rest of the GOP trash.

  • Anticipated Serendipity

Ron Paul is just generally loony anyway. His foreign policy is terribly naïve, he’s as anarcho-capitalistic as they come and he’s all for the poor who can’t afford healthcare dying.

  • Riley

Ron Paul is as anti-Hispanic as they come, but apparently thats okay as long as he leaves Muslims alone…

  • Slick Santorum

    Ron Paul all the way…..

mmmm I have the Quran( and the songs of Yossou N’Dour on my Iphone . Is this enough to get me profiled ?
Or will the fact that I am red haired give me super powers against the TSA

  • Jim

“If you take a look at the people who have tried to kill us it would be easy to identify what that profile looks like.”

Yup, some of them look like Timothy McVeigh.

“Well, I’m flattered that someone is gunning for me getting felt up at the airport.”

I actualy quite like it… well, here in Malaysia (where feeling someone up would probably get a knee in a groin) they do this weird thing where they grab the seems and zip down… hard to describe but it’s pretty neat and I like it. But I’m mad so there you go.

I think half of the problem with TSA is exactly what you were saying though; the quality of the staff is poor. At least here they get police officer to do it. This means two things; a) they are reasonably trained at least and b) they have guns. ‘nuf said.

Oh and of course, as I’ve said for years, start profiling and the terroists change their profile. Heck, any of those 9/11 hijackers look particualy ‘Muslim’ to you??

Well, I’m flattered that someone is gunning for me getting felt up at the airport. Quite frankly, I just wish the pat down was done by a buxom redhead instead of a middle aged loser who can barely fit into his grease stained XXXL work shirt. But then, what can I expect from a homophobic repub who has a really nasty gay sex act named after him.

And yes, Ron Paul hit it on the head. I’m not denying the existence of some terrorists who happen to be Muslim (just as there are other terrorists who happen to be Christian or Jewish). But the idea of targeting every single Muslim man is absurd. It’s a waste of time and money. As Steven points out, not only can you not tell who is Muslim, but what it actually boils down to is patting down and screening everyone who is Middle Eastern, or just Middle Eastern “looking.” Most of whom are likely to be non-Muslim, I might add, but even if they were, you aren’t going to find many terrorists. If terrorists make up even .01% of the Ummah in the US, I would be amazed.

More to the point, it assumes that the terrorists are stupid, which they are not (unfortunately). The successful ones are smart enough to watch the US media, and to know that people might be screening for people with “olive toned skin” and “funny sounding names.” But do you think for a MINUTE that TSA screeners would profile blacks? Of course not, imagine the outrage. Nor would they profile white Anglo-Americans with non-ethnic names. al-Qaeda and al-Qaeda wannabes have no shortage of loonies to recruit from. All they need to do is have a blonde-haired, blue-eyed bomber and nobody would ever check them.

How do you profile a Muslim male? Ron Paul hit the nail on the head: “What if they look like Timothy McVeigh?” You can’t really tell a Muslim male any more than you can tell a Christian by physical appearance or clothing. I recall the poor “Muslin looking” people who have been physically attacked only to discover later that they were Coptic or Greek Christians, or Sikhs or Hindus.

There are plenty of “American” converts to Islam who do not appear any different physically or in manner of dress from “American” Christians, Buddhists, Agnostics, or Atheists!

While some converts adopt an Arabic “Muslim” name (such as the former Cassius Clay taking the name Muhammad Ali, and the former Lew Alcindor taking the name Kareem Abdul Jabbar) many do NOT adopt such names (such as Jeffrey Lang, or “our own” Jack Cope in loonwatch comments).

So how can you profile “Muslims”, unless you turn it into racial profiling of anyone who “looks like” an Arab or Pakistani, etc.?

  • SKhan

Does this mean we should also start profiling young Christian males? *cough* Anders Brevick! *cough* *cough* LRA!

  • corey

its just hilarious how there are morons who are so with profiling as a means of counterterroism even though reports exist to show how that is ineffective http://www.soros.org/initiatives/justice/articles_publications/publications/profiling_20090526

  • Sir David ( Illuminati membership number 5:32) Warning Contains Irony

Intellergence first . I agree mindy Let us know when you find any in this bunch of candidates

  • Sir David ( Illuminati membership number 5:32) Warning Contains Irony

Ron Paul , best of a bad bunch , hardly a ringing endorsement

  • Khushboo

Santorum also said that we’re not on war against terrorism but war against radical Islam. Brilliant!

Ron Paul is the only one with a brain. I’m disappointed in Huntsman for supporting drones against Pakistan. Perry proved that he’s ditzier than Bachman by stating that we can’t be giving out blank checks to Pakistan…huh?? He’s clueless as to why we’re giving money to Pakistan. Herman Cain is hiding behind words but his prejudice against Muslim still shows. Romney and Gingrich are still Israel a$$ kissers. So that just leaves Ron Paul.

  • TheBigT89

why not give Muslims yellow crescent identification tags, like what the Nazis did to the Jews in the 1930’s (Herman “The German” Cain’s new national ID for Muslim Americans.

these people are insane, since Ron Paul is the sanest of them all, he won’t be nominated, since he’s not a bigot or a xenophobe like the rest of these idiots

We need a whole new party. A third party.

I hope and pray the occupy wall st movement grows. The two leading parties are over for the USA. Both are controlled by a narrow segment that don’t represent the country. though the Democrats are far preferable, Obama has shown, he is not prepared to do what needs to be done.

I think the secret may lie within the Occupy Wall St movement, it may well be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

  • Glorfindel

Only sane person (relatively speaking) is Ron Paul so he won’t be elected.

If we are talking about ethnic profiling then maybe we should profile White Jews and Christians in the banks who ruined the economy and we shouldn’t let any of them near a investment bank?

Sounds about as barmy as profiling Muslims.

  • mindy1

    Intelligence first, not profiling

  • HGG

Santorum, alongside Bachmann, is the bottom of the barrel the GOP candidates.

I like Huntsman. I can’t wait until he’s the frontrunner.
