If Muslims were attacking synagogues or churches at the rate that these attackers are, the right-wing nuts would be having a feeding frenzy.

Jerusalem mosque set alight in suspected ‘price tag’ attack

Jerusalem Mayor denounces arsonists’ attack on burial site of noted Muslim figure, saying zero tolerance should be shown to violence of any kind, and that coexistence in the city must be kept.

Arsonists set fire to a deserted mosque in central Jerusalem during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday. There was no structural damage reported and the damage mainly consisted of the blackening of walls and graffiti reading “Price Tag,” and anti-Islamic phrases.

The Nebi Akasha mosque, apparently built under the Ayyubid dynasty in the 12th century with additions made under the Mamluk dynasty in the 13th century. It is believed that the mosque was founded on the burial site of combatants in Saladin’s army, though an ancient tradition designates the site as the place where Akasha, a friend of the Prophet Muhammad, was buried.

The mosque is uniquely located in central Jerusalem in the midst of a Ultra-Orthodox neighborhood. It was abandoned in the Israeli War of Independence. Its was recently renovated and turned into a municipal storage facility.

Graffiti spray painted on the historical site included inscriptions such as “Muhammad is Dead,” “Muhammad is a Pig,” and “Price Tag.”

The Jerusalem municipality closed off the entrance to the mosque, and the police and Shin Bet began an investigation.

    The recent “price tag” attack by these same activists on an IDF base is an interesting turn of events. Note that an actual IDF officer was injured and no arrests were made.

    Some 50 settlers and right-wing activists entered a key West Bank military base early Tuesday morning and threw rocks, burned tires, and vandalized military vehicles.

    In the attack on the Efraim Regional Brigade’s base near the West Bank city of Qalqilya, right-wing activists threw stones at region’s brigade commander and his deputy after forcefully opening the door to their jeep. The brigade commander was lightly wounded after a stone hit his head.
    In addition to the attack on the IDF base, right-wing activists blocked a main West Bank road and threw stones at passing Palestinian vehicles and IDF soldiers in the area.

    Around 100 right-wing activists and settlers came to the area of the base before 50 of them enetered the base, according to the IDF spokesman.

    The youths were repelled by security forces. No arrests were made.

  • I thought that Israel treated minorities better than any other country in the Middle East. This is certainly not true(covers ears, and continuously shouts “la la la la la la”).

    I liked the BBC take on this

    including the idea
    “The Israeli government is said to be considering strengthening anti-terrorism laws in response to the violence.”

    @Muslim, thanks, I hope that’s true

  • Garth Eisenstein

    Yeah, that’s true- zionism is not Judaism.

  • Garth Eisenstein

    This is disgusting…..

    Muslims need to form lobby groups in nations such as the USA to turn the tide and to let the mainstream hear the truth about Israel.

    A message to Muslims: STEP UP!!!

    @Mindy1 :
    All ideologies have self-centred sociopathic extremists who have no empathy for others.

    I am sure that most Jews with faith abhor this red T-shirt vs. blue T-shirt pseudo-Judaism.

    Perhaps excessive paranoia or hurt is locking them in a spiral slippery slope from which they can’t escape back to normality?

    As long as one person stands up for humanity, we have a chance 😉

    Israeli Mayor Bans Christmas Trees

    The mayor of Nazareth Illit, an Israeli town with an Arab Christian minority, has declared a ban on the public display of Christmas trees. “Nazareth Illit is a Jewish city and it will not happen–not this year and not next year, so long as I am a mayor,” Mayor Shimon Gapso said. Arab Christians, who make up about 7 percent of the town’s 40,000 residents, were denied their request to put up Christmas trees in their neighborhoods. The Agence France-Presse reports that the community is not happy:

    His decision angered the town’s Arab and Christian minority, who accused him of racism. “The racism of not putting a tree up is nothing compared to the real racism that we experience here,” said Aziz Dahdal, a 35-year-old Christian resident of Nazareth Illit.

    “When we asked the mayor to put up a Christmas tree in the Arab neighbourhoods of Nazareth Illit he said this is a Jewish town, not a mixed town,” said Shukri Awawdeh, a Muslim Arab member of the town council. … “We told him that decorating a tree is just to share the happiness and cheer with other people in the town,” said Awawdeh.

    Nazareth Illit is a suburb of Nazareth, which as the childhood home of Jesus Christ is an important center of Christian history and is about one-third Christian today. Journalist Nir Rosen wonders how Fox News, which has a tendency to defend Israel but also a love of fighting what it calls “the war on Christmas,” would handle this story.

    Like all other investigations, this one won’t uncover any wrong doing.

    Why are my fellow Jews acting like haters?? We have been through so much, we should be more tolerant, especially considering what lead up to the formation of Israel 🙁
