A Group of South Korean Christians Beg God to Strike Down Evil Lady Gaga

Posted on 24 April 2012 by Ilisha

South Koreans Pray

“Well, that’s your opinion, isn’t it? And I’m not about to waste my time trying to change it.” ― Lady Gaga

Hundreds of religious conservatives are praying together to prevent Lady Gaga from performing her “Born this Way” concert in Seoul.

South Korea has a substantial Buddhist population, and is home to East Asia’s largest Christian community, after the Philippines. The nation’s Muslim population is negligible.

The prayers are being organized by Christian groups who fear the American pop diva will corrupt the youth with “homosexuality and pornography,” which begs the question: What if they were Muslim?

A Group of South Koreans Begs God to Strike Down Evil Lady Gaga

by Cassie MurdochJezebel

Did you feel a change in the energy of the Earth today? It could have been our new climate-change induced crazy weather, but it was probably because hundreds of South Koreans were busily praying as one in hopes of convincing God to stop Lady Gaga from performing her scheduled concert in Seoul. Why would they object to the reigning Queen of Pop appearing in their country? Because they want “to stop young people from being infected with homosexuality and pornography,” according to the Korean Association of Church Communities. And here we had no idea that pornography and homosexuality were diseases that could be spread through song. You really do learn something new every day!

These crazed opponents of Lady Gaga’s “lewd lyrics and performances” have been raising quite a fuss. They’ve protested outside the officies of Hyundai Card, the show’s sponsor, and they also put up banners all over Seoul. The banners were taken down, but the state did raise the show from 12 and over to 18 and over. The prayer gathering is the last hope to stop Lady Gaga’s infectious grooves from poisoning the hearts of South Koreans. Organizers of the event, which was expected to draw about 300 Protestants, said, “We will pray to God that the concert will not be realised so that homosexuality and pornography will not spread around the country.” I’m sure God will be listening with an open heart and strike down Lady Gaga with a nasty case of laryngitis—or he’ll be too busy determining the outcome of various sporting events to act. We’ll just have to wait until April 27th to find out if the show will go on without holy intervention.

    I loves everything Korean EXCEPT Korean Christians. They are not only irritants to themselves but to the whole Korean society. The way some of them treat Korean Buddhism which is amazingly beautiful and proudly Korean is just shameful . I hope Lady Gaga and our friends from overseas know that these korean christians are just a minority in South Korea n 80 % of South koreans are nice and open people.

    Solid Snake,

    Oh I agree, the plot and storyline is extremely deep and poignant with lots of lessons. One of the reasons I liked the whole Ace Combat series was the same reason; it was a war game that was… well… anti-war ;-) Its by a Japanese developer like MGS, I think its quite common for them to given what happened to them in WWII.

    I think a well crafted video game can be just as artistic as any other art form. In fact, given how you immerse your audience perhaps even more so! Sadly games these days seem to skimp on the plot in favor of ‘splosions and high end graphics, no craft in it any more. Back in the day you couldn’t hide behind good graphics so your story had to be good :-D I always found the story behind MGS fascinating (if extremely confusing and verging on nonsense a lot of the time) even though I disliked the games themselves.

    I think we are hijacking the thread, suggest we move to email before they shout at us :-P the.strangers.blog@gmail.com

    @Jack Cope
    Lol I know exactly what you are talking about. Throughout the whole game I was thinking to myself, he is discarding empty magazines and bullet shells that can and will be traced back to the US, and about his equipment also. But MGS is more drama and action than realism think Rambo walking around firing off two M60′s.

    Plus this is a game where you can hide in a cardboard box to fool highly trained soldiers for crying out loud :D

    Anyway dont let these minor details turn you off from playing the whole series. You will not regret it. Many of the themes presented in the game pertain to current world issues. Nuclear weapons, hiring private mercenary companies to fight in warzones, terrorism, genetic engineering, nanotechnology,the increasing use of machines (drones) to fight wars. Overall its main idea is pacifism thats why you can go throughout the whole game without killing a single soldier maybe only some of the bosses. It also takes into question the meaning of being a patriot and having loyalty to your country even when your country is doing something illegal and morally wrong. There is a wealth of lessons one can learn from playing the MGS series :D

    Solid Snake;

    Well… actually the thing that got me was the demo version of MSG3 I got years ago. That very vid, where snake parachutes into a jungle on a secret ‘leave no trace not even sweat’ mission (I think those were the exact words). It was all I could do to stop myself screaming ‘WHERE ARE YOUR SOP’S SOLIDER?’ as Snake rips of various bits of kit with ‘US ARMY’ printed in bold letters on the front from his flight suit and discards it in enemy territory. Oh and they are flying over Soviet airspace in what is basically a glorified cargo truck with wings that has a giant US flag on the side. Plus Major Zero’s accent is really really really cheesy :-P

    What if it were Muslims? There would have been a fatwa against Lady Gaga just like there was Salman Rushdie.

    Yeah, and you know what? Salman Rushdie is still alive.
