Happy eastern to everyone and a quick question to lurking jwatchers:

any reason why Robert Spencer doesnt wish happy ramadan or Eid to Muslims at his site. After all, he assures us that he’s neither anti-muslim nor anti-islam so why not?

According to the scholars at Onislam.net and askthescholar.com, Muslims should wish others on their special days. So happy easter and passover!

Easter for Christians has absolutely nothing do to with bunnies and easter eggs like the picture notes but with the Cross that signifies Jesus’s death.

  • I also want to wish everyone here who supports Loon Watch, a happy Passover and or a happy Easter, assuming you celebrate either one of them.

Here is a beautiful story related to the Holiday spirit, I read about Muslim and Christian brotherhood during Lenten season.

Muslim firemen protect Christians on Lenten season.

MAGUINDANAO, Philippines – Commuters and motorists that crisscrossed thoroughfares in the province the past six days found an added layer of protection in their sojourn through isolated areas, courtesy of the Bureau of Fire Protection.

For the first time ever, members of the BFP in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao can be seen since Monday in several accident prone stretches of highways in the province as part of the bureau’s countrywide Lenten highway safety initiative.

What was fascinating for Christians that saw them was that most of the BFP operatives that helped the police and the military ensure the safety of passersby were Muslims.

“It’s so nice to see Muslims and Christians in Maguindanao help each other jointly pursue peace and security initiatives,” said Reverend Troy Cordero, a preacher.

Cordero saw some BFP-ARMM operatives along the Maguindanao-Sultan Kudarat Highway when he visited his relatives in Sultan Kudarat’s Isulan and Esperanza towns before Maundy Thursday.

Some BFP men in other parts of ARMM were deployed in surroundings of Christian worship sites to help policemen and soldiers prevent saboteurs from closing in.

The regional director of BFP-ARMM, Warlito Daus, said his Muslim subordinates were elated with the chance to show to Christians that Islam as “a way of life,” strongly advocates “religious solidarity” as a vehicle for peaceful co-existence of communities with diverse sectarian identities.

About 80 percent of BFP members in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao — covering the predominantly Moro provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi — are Muslims.

There has not been any major accident in busy arteries straddling through ARMM provinces since Monday, according to the regional police office in Camp S.K. Pendatun in Parang town in Maguindanao.

Operatives of the police’s Traffic Management Group in the autonomous region have also been visibly positioned along the national highways since last Palm Sunday.

“I wish the BFP-ARMM can also embark on this kind of activity, aimed at protecting motorists, during the Yuletide Season and the Islamic Eid’l Fitr holiday,” said businesswoman Sharifa Samsudin, an ethnic Maguindanaon.

Eid’l Fitr, or the culmination of the month-long Ramadhan fasting season, is a big annual religious event among Muslims.

SFO2 Hombra Masukat, chief of the BFP’s fire station inside the 32-hectare ARMM regional compound in Cotabato City, said it is easy for them to embark on humanitarian activities if necessary since the regional fire bureau operates under the ministerial supervision of the executive department of the regional government.

“We operate parallel with the peace and development initiatives of the office of the ARMM governor. Our regional director has also been very supportive of activities that tend to foster unity among Muslims and Christians in the region,” Masukat told The Star.
