Class Materials from Military’s anti-Islam Class Repeatedly Cite Islamophobic Authors

When it was first revealed that anti-Islam classes were being taught by the US military we were pretty certain that the anti-Muslim authors that we are so familiar with were likely heavily cited, now it has been confirmed:

Class materials from military’s anti-Islam class repeatedly cite Islamophobic authors

A class taught by the military to officers at the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia, came under fire when a report on Wired’s Danger Room blog last week exposed it for teaching soldiers to engage in a “total war” on Islam and taking a war on Islam “to the civilian population wherever necessary.”

The full set of course materials, hundreds of documents and slide shows obtained by ThinkProgress, reveal just how deep Islamophobia ran through the military instruction. The material contained dozens of citations to the work of some of America’s best known anti-Muslim bigots.

Not all of the material in the course, however, was anti-Muslim. Materials from reputable sources such as the Brookings Institution and RAND corporation also appeared among the readings, and only some of the presenters to the class used blatantly Islamophobic material. (The public affairs officer of the Joint Forces Staff College didn’t respond to repeated inquiries by press time.)

But the “Islamophobia network,” discussed in the Center for American Progress’s report, “Fear, Inc.” played a prominent role in many of the 266 documents acquired by ThinkProgress.

ThinkProgress, 15 May 2012

The Islamophobes named are Robert Spencer, David Yerushalmi and Daniel Pipes, along with Frank Gaffney’s Center for Security Policy. Right-wing anti-Muslim publications like the Washington Times and the National Review are also cited numerous times in the documents.

Yo! Let’s face it .. America is struggling-(Jihad) with Islam. But which kind of ‘Jihad’?

  • The Christian Right infiltration of the military is a serious problem. Their bigotry not just against Islam but others too (atheists, Jews, Catholics, Hindus, gays) is something that MRFF specialise in. It’s founder Mikey Weinstein has been nominated for the Nobel Prize. He is more worthy of it than Obama.

    Loon Watch,

you may want to add MRFF to your blogroll of recommendations on your home page. Long before media caught up with the Dominionist disease in the military, Mikey Weinstein was warning about it. Only after the Iraq war, Abu Ghraib and other atrocities but many go unreported, Blackwaters crimes are many and they draw their rank and file crusaders from these brainwashed dominionists.

Those teaching material should be seen as tthe real plans of Robert Spencer and Co. They love fear mongering about a alleged Muslim brotherhood conspiracy in America when reality is that they are just self projecting their own plans against Muslims. Finally, this teaching material is enough tto debunk the most famous excuse to launch attack on Iran. They say Iran wants to wipe Israel off the map, while the material they teach if far worse. The threat to the world is America being in hold of a nuclear weapon. Imagine Robert Spencer and Co. crusaders getting control of these weapons. They should be declared as dangerous terrorists worse than Bin Laden in their plans and hatred, and jailed for life as “pre-emptive” measure.

  • @Dragon and Reynardine –

And – it’s ALL based on Huntington’s “clash of civilizations” ideology. This also means oppressing “civilizational kin” (Muslims= Islamic civilization) at home was well as creating conflicts and getting into wars with other “civilizations” abroad.

We see the basis of this “clash” foreign and security policy paradigm out of the Netherlands from FM Uri Rosenthal – who’s foreign policy in the Middle East is human rights advocacy for Christians only along those “civilizational fault lines” with “Islamic civilization.”

The use of “clash” ideology in foreign and security policy will – indeed – get us into more wars and conflicts as setting up civilizational rivalries is what Huntington appeared to be advocating…

Yes – we need to stop this….

  • @Reynardine,

Thanks for the suggestion. I hope the SPLC is able to do something to help us stop this.

  • Reynardine,

You’re right. I’ll do that right now.

Dragon, I know you post comments on Hatewatch. You need to give them this link. I am forwarding this page to Politicususa.

This is not an accident. This is preparation for the state of Pure and Total War that the cadre behind Rott Mimney and his rottenue are preparing to foist on us. For the sake of the planet, we can’t let this happen.

  • I have read “journal publications” put out by West Point that appear to be written from the anti-Muslim and Islamophobic point of view.

I strongly believe that there is “overflow” between the Islamophobic looniverse – counter-terrorism “experts” in traditional terrorism studies – and the security and law enforcement agencies of the Western world that feed off of each other. For evidence, take a look at the NYPD’s “radicalization model,” but a comparative discourse analysis can really be useful. What is meant by “comparative discourse analysis” is to compare the language and literature of the Islamophobic looniverse to the rubbish put out by traditional terrorism studies by its “experts” – some employed by governments and think tanks…

And – I bet we find the results quite interesting, to say the least.

  • @MC

I hope other more well known anti bigotry organizations like the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti Defamation league get involved in the fight against this soon. We need to pressure the government into putting a stop to this.

  • MC

It just scares me how these people are being filled with Anti-Muslim propoganda and then are being sent to fight overseas in Muslim countries. Combine hatred disguised as learning and maybe some mental issues and you got yourself a “war-rage” criminal going crazy in Afganistan.

Someone should tell the Southern Poverty Law Center about this.
