Police Remove Muslim Women From Pam Geller’s ‘Human Rights Conference’

Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer only preach to their minions, and anyone else is not accepted.

Police Remove Muslim Women From Pam Geller’s ‘Human Rights Conference’

By Eli Clifton on Apr 30, 2012 at 9:30 am, ThinkProgress

Yesterday in Dearborn, Michigan, noted anti-Muslim activists Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer hosted a conference promising to advocate for “human rights” in one of the largest Muslim communities in the United States. Geller, writing on her blog on Sunday, warned, “We will meet fierce resistance by Islamic supremacists who will do anything, say anything to impose the sharia and whitewash the oppression, subjugation and slaughter of women under Islamic law.”

But surprisingly, Muslim women found themselves denied entry to the conference and, after patiently waiting in the corridor after being told to wait, were removed from the Hyatt Hotel by the Dearborn Police Department and Hyatt security.

Several of the young women commented that they shared a similar appearance with Jessica Mokdad, the young women who Geller and Spencer claim was murdered in an “honor killing” (a conclusion not shared by Mokdad’s family or Michigan prosecutors).

ThinkProgress attempted to attend the event and was turned away, and eventually removed from the Hyatt by the police, along with the young women. One of the women commented, “I tried emailing [Pamela Geller to register] and I literally couldn’t get any kind of response back.” That comment seems to contradict Geller’s claim that she wants to help Muslim women and that the conference was in defense of the human rights of Muslim women.

Another woman who tried to attend the conference told ThinkProgress:

Coming in, I was asking where the human rights conference is. [Hyatt Security and Dearborn Police] were like, ‘what are you talking about?’ I’m like, ‘the human rights conference on the second floor.’ They were like, ‘the anti-Islam conference?’ That’s what they’re calling it now.

And another woman expressed surprise that Geller, who has asked to hear from more Muslim voices on human rights issues, was denying Muslims access to her event. “I watched an interview with her […] and she said, ‘Where are the Muslims?’ Well, we’re here!” Watch it (police arrive to escort the women off the Hyatt premises at 3:58):

Pamela Geller emailed ThinkProgress, “They didn’t register. We’ve been announcing for weeks that only registered attendees would be admitted.”

Geller and Spencer play prominent roles in the Islamophobia “echo chamber,” as detailed in the Center for American Progress’s report “Fear, Inc.: The Roots of the Islamophobia Network in America.”

On another note, does anyone else not see what is wrong with this entire event? The hotel is letting Geller spew her hatred. Would this hotel have allowed a KKK or neo-Nazi event to spew hatred like Geller is? Goes to show you the double standard that exists.

“I think we must keep making this clear…that it is deeply rooted in the western discourse that Muslims are not human beings.”

Ah…no it is not deeply rooted in western discourse that Muslims are not human beings. Only fringe groups say that. Western-made organisations such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International consider Muslims human beings and therefore acknowledge that they have human rights and raise awareness of the violation of Muslim human rights.

    Amnesty founded in London

Human Rights Watch founded in America.

“They dont [sic] concider [sic] some people ‘human’…therefore the women dont [sic] have ‘human rights’

I think we must keep making this clear…that it is deeply rooted in the western discourse that Muslims are not human beings.”

What would the reaction here be if someone wrote: “They dont concider some people ‘human’…therefore the infidels dont have ‘human rights’

I think we must keep making this clear…that it is deeply rooted in the Islamic discourse that non-Muslims are not human beings.”

It’s interesting to me that people posting here so often deal in stereotypes (“white”, “redneck”, “islamophobe”, “western discourse is full of racism” etc.”). If sterotyping all Muslims is wrong (and it is), then so is sterotyping all white people or westerners. You all do see that, right?

@Peter, No she had no right to place the conference in her name especially when the family disagreed. Also Islam did not cause her death. Her abusive STEP FATHER caused her death, not motivated by Islam.

Just wondering do we know how many people attended this Nurenburg like hate Rally . I dont trust Geller I suspect she just might lie .( she has a history ) She no doubt will proclaim the event a great victory . Could someone local ask the hotel .
If the hotel dont know maybe asking how many people would the fire regulations allow in the room she hired. Next someone ask Geller then maybe she will either have to admit it was 12 folks including her and Blobby or tell people it was more than the fire regs say the room should hold . If this is the case the next time she hires a hotel room we could advise the hotel this person ignores fire regs and they should beware of her also mention this to the local fire service who would take a very dim view ,lets not forget to use her own blog as evidence also inform the hotel she used this time :-)
Also how much did the security cost and was this met by Geller and friends or local peoples taxation or the hotel . If the latter then maybe this should be pointed out also to any hotel thinking of booking rooms to these Nazis in the future.

@RDS Says: “I think you guys kinda missed the larger picture. If these women really were abused, I really hope they find some help.”

Never say never, right? Only Allah knows! I really like that!. Anyway, I don’t really know what you’re trying to suggest here, and I’m sorry if I’m wrong about it. But let’s say that you’re maybe implying the reason why those Muslim women went in the first place to the hate-feast ‘conference’ was because they “were abused”. Then wouldn’t that be a very sad state for Muslims to be in? thus suggesting (knowing Geller is hate) Islamophobia hate is normal?. And why would they be as Muslim women going for “some help” to hate-filled people who are very well known without a hint of doubt for their ferocious hate of everything Muslim-kind and the religion of Islam? Are you suggesting they’re that stupid to not even know how to dial 9/11? They need hate-rempli Geller for that?

  • JT

“Look up etiquettes before coming over to US.”

It is possible that those Muslim women were born in America. There are fourth and even fifth generation Muslim-Americans in Dearborn. But to you they’ll always be foreigners.

  • Peter

What about the “friend of Jessica Mokdad”, Darwin Jiles, who featured at Geller’s conference as a witness. Anybody has more information on him as to verify his statements?

“Jessica would wear [the Islamic headcovering, the hijab] it when she was with her family, and when she wasn’t with her family, she let it be very known that she didn’t want to wear it, that she did not want to be a part of this forced Islamic religion. She was very clear with that to me. And so Cassandra really is portraying a false picture. And Pamela has every right to place the conference to be named after Jessica in regards to this, because it was Islam that caused her death.”

Those comments typically educated by Muslim cleric. Just the same as something happened that seems disgrace a muslim, each of mohammedan will twist the fact up and down.

  • RDS

I think you guys kinda missed the larger picture. If these women really were abused, I really hope they find some help.

“, “I tried emailing [Pamela Geller to register] and I literally couldn’t get any kind of response back.” ”

no different to when you post on her blog and she deletes the post.

she is the ultimate hypocritical liar.

yes, i know you read these blogs pam smellar.

  • NurAlia

    mindy…

I think there is something you must understand about People like Pam Geller, Spencer, and those who are like them.

They dont concider some people ‘human’…therefore the women dont have ‘human rights’

I think we must keep making this clear…that it is deeply rooted in the western discourse that Muslims are not human beings.

    @John

“The women obviously did not register in time and were gate crashing so were rightfully removed.”

Did you watch the video? They did register, or at least attempt to, in advance.

  • Hass

P.S. Spread this video round like wildfire for effective awareness.

  • JT

Géji, sorry for the confusion. I wasn’t insulting the Muslim women trying to attend, I know they don’t support Geller but were there to make sure that Islamophobes don’t get away with using them as a means to advance their cause. It was a good move because Islamophobes love to assume that Muslim women are oppressed and were claiming their conference was supposed to help them. Someone needs to tell them the truth and what better way than having Muslim women challenge Geller in person about her claims.

I meant her supporters — how can they be so stupid to think she cares about the victims or human rights.

  • Hass

HYPOCRISY BY PAM GELLER! Human rights? BS.

Thanks to ThinkProgress for the video, it showed a lot and can be used as PROOF to display the discrimination done by Pam and her bunch of funded cronies.

  • John

“Pamela Geller emailed ThinkProgress, “They didn’t register. We’ve been announcing for weeks that only registered attendees would be admitted.””

The women obviously did not register in time and were gate crashing so were rightfully removed. Always the trouble makers. Look up etiquettes before coming over to US.

Feel free to conduct a counter conference in response, no one is stopping you.

Hahahaha, that video made my evening. Jazakallah Khayran to the ladies and to Think Progress that turned up. I would be scared to face that evil woman, Geller, and all the other haters in that room. These people should be quite embarrassed by that video if they possessed any “honor”.

  • Géji

“How dumb must you be to actually think this was about human rights?”

@JT, I’ll bet the Muslim ladies before even going there already knew that the so-called “human-right conference” that shamelessly claimed speaking on their behalf was not about them but hate against Islam. I believe that’s the reason why they even showed-up in the first place, to probably show by their presence the ridiculousness of the “conference”, taking a chance to go there and if they’re let-in to ask questions that’ll embarrassed the hell-out of the “human-right” hate-feasters, but maybe also knowing in advance they would be let-in anyway. Watch the video, they seem to know perfectly well that geller is a hate-filled racist-crusader against Islam/Muslims. I think they’re even mention the word “human right conference” to simply show the irony of the whole thing, which the cops and security personal proved them right after-all by saying “‘the anti-Islam conference?’”. All and all, I’m clad they showed-up, I would have done the same if I was living there. By them simply showing-up, as Muslim women most of them wearing hijab, it is one of the best-punchs the hate-feast organizers receive right on the mouth.

  • Crow

How dumb must you be to think this was about human rights? All you have to do is look at the hate sites like jihadwatch, fascist republic etc and you will see all kinds of douchebags that will tell you its about human rights

  • JT

“They were like, ‘the anti-Islam conference?’ That’s what they’re calling it now.”

Seriously, who does Geller think she is fooling. We all know what she’s really trying to do, Jessica’s family knows, even the security guards at Hyatt hotel know. Maybe they should’ve asked some of the people at the nearby Hilton, even they’d know.

How dumb must you be to actually think this was about human rights?

  • Abdul-Rahman

Pamela Geller and her hatemonger ilk are so transparently bigoted clowns. Pam claims her little “conference” is supposedly in “honor” of Jessica Mokdad who Pam claims was murdered in an alleged “honor killing” even though all the sources from Jessica Mokdad’s family to even the professional law enforcement involved in the case itself say it was not a supposed “honor killing” and that Jessica was simply murdered by her deranged/obsessed stepfather who wanted a sexual relationship with Jessica but was rejected by her. http://www.loonwatch.com/2012/02/the-jessica-mokdad-story-family-of-deceased-girl-doesnt-want-pamela-geller-pimpin-their-daughters-name-for-islamophobic-agenda/

Also of course Islam completely condemns so-called “honor killings” http://islam-qa.com/en/ref/101972/honor%20killing

The fact that actual Muslim women weren’t allowed into Geller’s Islamophobic event just shows what a fraud and hatemonger Geller is. It is basically saying “we want to ‘protect’ you” (what Geller claims about allegedly “oppressed” Muslim women) but then won’t even allow said women into her own conference supposedly done in their honor!

  • Géji

“Another [Muslim] woman who tried to attend the conference told: Coming in, I was asking where the human rights conference is. [Hyatt Security and Dearborn Police] were like, ‘what are you talking about?’ I’m like, ‘the human rights conference on the second floor.’ They were like, ‘the anti-Islam conference?’ That’s what they’re calling it now”

LOL, one of the best lines of Islamophobia EVER!!

  • Senor

Well, Jan, here is your proof that you requested. I’m not surprised by this at all.

Man, check out those oppressed Muslim woman trying to enter a hostile event without any male authority figures to guide them.

  • mindy1

You mean she really doesn’t care about muslim women?!?!?!? if this is a human rights conference, then I have a lovely bridge in brooklyn to sell you :P
