The United States of America Defence League: “The Crusade Begins”

United States of America Defence League

Shouldn’t the United States of America Defence League (USADL for short) spell “defence” with an “s” as in “defense”? Just saying, it doesn’t seem very, as George W. Bush would say, ‘Merican to spell it with a “c.”

Bill Turner

If you thought Captain America was leading this “defence league,” you’d be wrong, it’s a chap by the name of Bill Turner, who used to moonlight in the anti-Islam Twitterverse as “Jihadihunter.” Turner is the “national director” of this offshoot of the UK-based EDL. Turner titled his first press release introducing the organization, “The Crusade Begins.”

Phew, and here I was thinking it was going to be some sort of bigoted, Anders-Breivik-esque, Christian-identity hate group! Glad that’s cleared up!

Bill Turner and the USADL, like all the other extremist anti-Muslim leaders and organizations in the so-called “counter-jihad” claim to be acting in defense of “human rights”:

[USADL is] a human rights organization that was founded in the defense of our nation and to stand in unison with the EDL and other such organizations, to halt the spread of Sharia law.

Defenders of the nation, fighters for freedom, where else have we heard such claims? Oh right, the KKK.

The USADL’s goal is essentially missionary. They seek to “inform” the public about the “true” nature of Islam, to provide a,

“more realistic and less sanitized view of Islam…”

While the USADL’s mission statement gives the necessary caveat, much like the EDL claims to that it is not against “Muslims” and warns against assuming that all Muslims are guilty of committing acts of terrorism (aren’t they merciful!?), it goes on to say that,

“the Islamic book of worship calls for all Muslims to participate in Jihad, in one form or another.”

The ADL (not to be confused with the USADL) notes that Turner is “well known” on right-wing websites already for his conspiratorial rantings about the government,

USADL’s National Director is Bill Turner, who is known for his anti-government and conspiratorial writings, which have been published on a number of right-wing websites and disseminated through his Twitter handle, “JihadiHunter.”

While anti-Muslim bias has been a primary theme in his writings as well, Turner’s role in launching the USADL suggests that he is gearing up to advance a more conspiratorial anti-Muslim agenda.

USADL’s website indicates that membership is open to all who “recognize the threat that Sharia Law poses to free people everywhere.” Although it is still too early to confirm the size and viability of the new organization, it already claims to have approximately 60 members.

I expect the USADL’s membership will increase as the usual suspects join its cause.

Already the nut jobs at the hate site BareNakedIslam are celebrating with all caps in the title, you can feel their adulation, FINALLY! USA DEFENCE LEAGUE. You will recall that BareNakedIslam is the same site that called for the murder of Muslim worshippers at mosques, so they will fit in nicely as “Crusader” drones in the USADL.

The USADL is just one more group for the SPLC to document and add to their list of the ever-growing anti-Muslim hate organizations proliferating around the country.

Some of the organizations that we have exposed in the past are on the SPLC’s list. They include AFDI, SIOA, ACT! for America and Veterans Defenders of America, amongst others.

  • Not just Muslims and Jews, but also Pagans and Heretics have been targeted by crusades. Christian bigotry may begin with Muslims, but it certainly doesn’t stop there. Ritual slaughter(halal and kosher) is a very important part of religious freedom and should be protected against bigots.

Some of you that critique the spelling of the word DEFENCE should probably research what monarchy the founding fathers left before they came to North American. ‘DEFENCE’ appears in our Constitution as this was the original spelling such as other words like ‘cheque’, ‘humour’, or ‘colour’. AND, in America, you can pretty much spell anything however you wish, even if its not correct. No one will stone your baby to death or cut off your eating hand. If you dont like America or the laws, go f**k off back to wherever you came from. Some of us wish to live the western traditions and worship whomever we like without being bothered by some bully zealot c**t.

You are welcome for the knowledge.

  • Awesome

The evidence of a Sharia takeover of the US is non-existent, but for some people that doesn’t matter because they’ll claim it’s true anyway to justify their bigotry against Islam and Muslims.

There are always going to be people who don’t like Muslims, just as there are always going to people who don’t like Jews, or who don’t like Christians, or Sikhs, or Hindus, or Buddhists, or Atheists, etc. and they’re always going to give every nonsensical excuse or conspiracy theory they can come up with to justify it. The important thing to do, is to prevent their ideas from influencing government policy, so that if you are a Muslim, Christian, Jew, Hindu, Buddhist, Atheist, etc., you don’t have to worry about the government coming after you for being one.

    Kafir, some corrections:

“dumbing down” not dumb down(which is not an adjective) nor dumb downing

Islam is a religion; Muslims who follow Islam can be Americans too!

    It’s dhimmis, not dimmis

    It’s Muslims not moslems

Go get an education so you’re not dumbing down America! mmkay?

  • connecticut

Really? So CAIR was not a co conspirator in funding terrorist operations?

  • @Proud Kafir

What threat? Look around you. Have you debunked just about everything on this website? Not mention more than a dozen other websites? Have you actually come across any real evidence that the Muslim Brotherhood is about to take over the US, and impose sharia?

The Stealth Jihad, the creeping sharia, the Islamization is all just a paranoid fantasy. Look at just how baseless those fears actually are.

The Fraudulent Sharia in American Courts “Study”

And that’s just one example of how baseless those claims are. That Sharia hysteria continues to this day.

Shariah Charade: Kansas Lawmakers Needlessly Ban Islamic Law

Yet you probably support such efforts don’t you? Yet what do you have to gain from doing so? You live in America? Who’s the one most likely to take your freedom away? I’ll give you a clue. Most likely it won’t be Muslims. The same true if you live in Europe or any other western country.

Yeah you’re right to worry about the dumbing down of America, and it is a threat to future of our freedom, but not for the reasons you think it is. In fact you’re helping the people most likely to take our freedom away right now. They’re already trying to take away freedom from Muslims in the name of protecting your freedom, based on ignorance, bigotry, and paranoia, and you support their efforts.

You’re the one who needs to wake up. Please wake up from your nightmare. The real world is much nicer.

  • Proud Kafir

I love how dumb down Americans will attack other Americans who are trying to wake this country up to the valid threat that is Islam… Anyone who fails to see the threat and who defends Islam over American people opposed to Islam are what moslems call DIMMIS 🙂 Keep defending Islam and attacking fellow Americans and one day you will be asking WHAT HAPPENED TO AMERICA? 🙂

It is strange how people will attack this group but will not attack the moslem grousp proven to be aiding JIHAD against this country… oh the dumb downing of America…it will be the death of our freedoms 🙁

Funny I dont see the USDL thats on facebook or the united west organization.

  • steve simmons

This is a correction to your article. The USADL is not affiliated in any way to the EDL. The EDL has an affiliate group in America which is the USDL. Just thought you should know this important piece of information. They state it quite clearly here on their website.

A certain percentage of the original Crusaders were Anti-Jewish and in some cases killed Jews in large numbers. I’ve long wondered what percentage of these new, self-declared “Crusaders” know of this. Of those that know, how many care? If they are as pro-Jewish as they claim to be, why use imagery that could be considered Anti-Semitic?

The answer is – many don’t. Whenever I raise the topic on FOX News Forums, the response I get is

    1) No they didn’t.
    2) You have been reading Wikipedia.
    3) You need to attend History 101.
    4) Show us the source … and even when I showed someone a source from a Jewish website, the response I got was “that’s probably a Muslim website pretending to be a Jewish website”.
    5) Those that killed the tens of thousands of Jews during the Crusades were not following Christianity, unlike Muslims, who when they kill Jews, are following Islam.

Some of these nutters have been brainwashed so much, that they just cannot believe that at certain times in history, Jews preferred to live under Islamic rule in Jerusalem as opposed to Christian rule.

David Yerushalmi: A Driving Force Behind Anti-Sharia Efforts in the U.S.

    Posted: March 25, 2011 ADL

One of the driving forces behind Shari’a-related conspiracy theories and growing efforts to ban or restrict the use of Shari’a law in American courts is David Yerushalmi, an Arizona attorney with a record of anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant and anti-black bigotry.

In recent years, Yerushalmi has created a characterization of Shari’a law (i.e., Islamic law) that declares there are “hundreds of millions” of Muslims who are either “fully committed mujahideen” or “still dangerous but lesser committed jihad sympathizers” who, because of Shari’a law, would be willing to murder all non-believers unwilling to convert, in order to “impose a worldwide political hegemony.” Meanwhile, Yerushalmi asserts, the U.S. government itself has consciously chosen to turn a blind eye to this threat.

To combat this alleged threat, Yerushalmi has vigorously opposed all perceived “inroads” of Shari’a law in the United States, even entirely innocuous measures such as American financial institutions creating financing packages designed to be compatible with Islamic restrictions against loaning money at interest.

Bans on court use of sharia/international law: Killed in Alabama, legislatively approved in Kansas, withdrawn in New Jersey, sent to study committee in New Hampshire
May 14th, 2012 by Bill Raftery Leave a reply »

With most legislatures now out of session, the last month saw little activity on legislation dealing with bans on court use of sharia/international law, but what there was was all in the last week:

May 7: Kansas’ House approves unanimously (120-0) SB 79 as amended by the House, a statute to ban the use of foreign or international law.

May 8: New Hampshire’s Senate Judiciary Committee recommended referring that state’s version (HB 1422) to an interim summer study.

May 9: Alabama’s Senate voted to indefinitely postpone and effective kill proposed constitutional amendment SB 84.

May 10: New Jersey’s AB 919, which the author had previously noted would be withdrawn, was formally removed from the legislature.

May 11: Kansas’ Senate approved SB 79 on a 33-3 vote. Proponents went out of their way during the debate to note the word “sharia” was not included in the bill, however news reports indicate that sharia was the focus of the bill when introduced and was specifically mentioned during debate.

Full roster of 41 bills introduced and their statuses after the jump.

“The public’s action in support of religious freedom is critical to prevent legalized discrimination against Muslims in Kansas and nationwide,” said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad. “This bill and the others like it are based on misinformation and fear-mongering.”

He added that the legislation could infringe on the constitutionally-protected right to choose Islamic marriage contracts, implement Islamic wills or to be buried according to one’s religious beliefs. It could also negatively impact the validation of international adoptions and foreign marriages.

Awad said supporters of the bill have attempted to mask its true intent by endorsing the measure as a women’s rights issue, but their repeated use of Islamophobic rhetoric demonstrates their true intent.

“I find Sharia law to take away all the rights of women,” said bill supporter Sen. Susan Wagle, a Wichita Republican. “They stone women to death in countries that have Sharia law, they (women) have no rights in court, female children are treated brutally.”

While supporters of the bill note that it does not address Islam or Sharia, Sen. Chris Steineger, a Kansas City Republican said: “[T]his was not presented as protecting the Kansas Constitution. The proponents of this measure, clearly by the literature they gave me and by the video link they directed me to, they presented this as protecting us against sharia law. Despite the fact that this doesn’t mention sharia, that’s how this whole issue was presented.”

Senator Tim Owens, an Overland Park Republican and Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee issued an apology for supporting and passing the bill. “This is one where I made some mistakes; the first one was signing the conference

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUESTED: (As always, be polite and respectful.)

    1. Call Kansas Governor Sam Brownback at 877-579-6757 (Local: 785-296-3232) and ask to leave a message for the governor. To email the governor, link bellow

    Talking points:

I urge you to reject the “Foreign Law” bill that is a thinly-veiled attack on the state’s Muslim population, which only serves to marginalize Muslims and to deny them equal rights and equal access to the courts enjoyed by other religious groups.
I am deeply concerned that the Kansas legislature would even consider a bill that was drafted using a template written by David Yerushalmi, an infamous anti-Muslim extremist with a history of bigoted views targeting Muslims, Jews, African-Americans, and women.

The bigoted nature and origin of this bill is the predominant reason why it was overwhelmingly rejected in Florida, Alabama, Virginia, New Jersey, and Minnesota, and was let expire in eleven other states. Please reject the intolerance and extremism inherent in this legislation.

    2. Inform your friends and family by forwarding this alert to at least five other people and by sharing it on social media. Tell them you took action and ask them to do the same.

Westboro Baptist Church spreads its hate through picketing in our streets, provoking attacks, with abusive language and flag desecration, attempting to create a confrontation. This is not a church, this is a hate group. This is not about protesting, freedom, or God. They are in it for the money and the press; this is a family law firm. They are not a “church.” It is a scam. They go after anything that can get them in the news. This is a family of lawyers using this “god hates you” thing to make money. It is time for this scam and the hate to end.

    > “These “Christians”, as I’ve said before, love Jews the way Minute Maid loves oranges.”

Lol, how clever @Reynardine, and so true. From now on, let’s call the superficial, fake taste of cheap “love” consumed by worldwide Islamophobes for Jews, The-Minute-Maid-love.

First off, not being a racist does not mean that one isn’t a bigot. Racism is not the only type of bigotry. Anti Muslim bigotry (Islamophobia) which this site is dedicated to, is another type of bigotry. Therefor even if you are able to show that the EDL or this new group is not racist, that doesn’t change the fact that its a hate group.

Second, Certainly the most infamous racists of all time, the Nazis were both racist and antisemitic, but not all racists are antisemitic. There are racist Jews for example. There’s even a recent story about one here on Loon Watch.

Nachum Shifren: Racist Rabbi Still Trying to Run For Senate Seat

Third, we’re not asking the state to ban the United States Of America Defense League or any other anti Muslim hate group. Even ignoring the first amendment issue, that would be counter productive. Also Garibaldi or anyone else here is not saying that we should throw out any part of the constitution.

Fourth, if all groups like this wanted to do was things like label Halal food, do you really think we’d be so concerned about them? If that’s all you think the USADL wants to do, than you’re the one who’s misinformed. Have read what what Garibaldi wrote?

  • Halal Pork

Muslims are allowed in the West to learn ,educate and better themselves.Once, they gain some power, they try to impose their way of life and Sharia laws on the host community. That causes the friction. What can one learn from the un-pricipled backward Muslims. They have to put their own house in order first in the Muslim lands.Even now, it is not too late to send them back.In England,a number of Muslims have been jailed for grooming underage White girls for prostitution. They consider White Christian women as Whores. Here they want to impose their low moral values.Time has come to support USADL to save America from the menace of Islam and Muslims.I can always produce the evidence of what I write.

  • khushboo

^You obviously don’t know that the EDL bigots can wave the Jewish flag while being anti-semitic. They’re sneaky bastards but it won’t make a difference to you since you’re clueless!

  • Connecticut

Why is it that everytime someone shows concern about this subject you drop the racist card? Let me ask you a question. What part of the constitution are you willing to throw away? And I highly doubt the EDL is racist as every protest they have done I have seen a jewish flag. They even had that crazy rabbi from California speak at there last Demonstration. And whats wrong with labeling food as halal? They already label foods Kosher. Sound to me like most of you just are just misinformed.
