Netherlands: Jewish and Muslim Communities Combine to Resist Ban on Ritual Slaughter

Coming together to continue the practice of ritual slaughter of animals. (via. Islamophobia-Watch):

Netherlands: Jewish and Muslim communities combine to resist ban on ritual slaughter

A new covenant aims to allow Jews and Muslims to continue to perform ritual slaughter of animals while answering the broadly supported call to prevent animal suffering.

After years of heated argument and increased polarization, the parties sat down in front of invited journalists to sign a carefully agreed covenant. The Jewish and Muslim representatives shook hands and, relieved, signed their names to the document.

In this case, Jews and Muslims were on the same side. The covenant they signed, along with Deputy Minister of Agriculture Henk Bleker, is a compromise that will allow Jews and Muslims in the Netherlands to continue the practice of ritual slaughter.

@Emperor, please can you address the questions posed regarding the ‘compromise’ on this article?

I am really trying to figure out who would be against the humane treatment and slaughter of animals for food?

What compromise between Jews and Muslims? Dont they both have a religious policy to humanely treat animals raised and killed to eat?

European Jews have always been historically persecuted.

Forced to wear star badged with “Jude”(Jew) on them, not Nazi germany but centuries before ordered by the vatican to “distinguish” (discriminate).

Their place as the worlds favorite scapegoats is being greatly contested by Muslims, nice to see them workin’together.

Far-Right Golden Dawn spokesman hits two female MPs on Greek talk show

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/greece/9316125/Far-Right-Golden-Dawn-spokesman-hits-two-female-MPs-on-Greek-talk-show.html

An arrest warrant has been issued for the spokesman for Ilias Kasidiaris, Greece’s far-Right Golden Dawn party after he physically assaulted two female left-wing MPs on live television during a morning political show.

Tempers frayed on the political show on the private Antenna television station during a discussion of the country’s politics in the run-up to repeat elections on June 17.

Mr Kasidiaris took offence at a reference by radical left Syriza party member Rena Dorou over a court case that is pending against him.

The 31-year-old bounded out of his seat and hurled a glass of water across the table over Ms Dorou when she said there was a “crisis of democracy when people who will take the country back 500 years have got into the Greek parliament.”

He then turned on prominent Communist Party member Liana Kanelli, who had got up out of her chair with a newspaper in hand and appeared to throw it at the Golden Dawn member.

Talk show host Giorgos Papadakis ran over to Mr Kasidiaris to attempt to calm him, shouting “no, no, no!” But Mr Kasidiaris, who had served in the Greek military’s special forces, hit Ms Kanelli around the face three times. A public prosecutor ordered his immediate arrest.

I think I agree with Steve: how is this a compromise?

There was a ban on ritual slaughter but now there really, sorta isn’t?

    Err, compromise?

  • JT

So there was a solution to this problem after all. I’m sure Dutch Muslims are relieved that they won’t have to drive across the border just to get some meat.

  • Heinz Catsup

Besides, isn’t Kosher/Halal Slaughter actually MORE humane than the non-religious methods employed? (ie. Electroshock) Not always mind you but a majority of the time?

  • Columnist

Good luck to you. Under my religion, Jews and Muslims will no longer have to fear Atheist attacks on ritual slaughter.

  • Steve

the compromise rules don’t seem to be a compromise at all, in fact i am surprised they weren’t already being used.

  • mindy1

    Yay cooperation :D :D
