Bill Maher Proves Why He is an Idiot Again: Defends Fascist Geert Wilders

Posted on 18 July 2012 by Emperor

I hope a guest, maybe Mos Def (aka Yasin Bey) gets a chance to question Bill Maher on his defense of the fascist Geert Wilders. Wilders wants to ban the Quran, ban construction of new mosques, strip Islam of its status as a religion, tax the hijab, end all immigration from Muslim countries, etc. etc. That’s not even covering his animus towards Eastern Europeans!

(via. Islamophobia-Watch)

Bill Maher defends Geert Wilders, claims ‘moderate Muslims’ advocate violence

The Colorado Springs Independent has an interview with US talk show host Bill Maher. He is asked why he featured Geert Wilders in his religion-mocking film Religulous – “wouldn’t your hatred for racist xenophobes trump your hatred of religion?” Maher replies that he sees no contradiction:

That’s ridiculous. I am certainly not prejudiced against race, religion, whatever. I do think religion is stupid and dangerous, so, yes, I have disdain for religion. But I don’t have disdain for people who are religious. Nor are my eyes, you know, looking through rose-colored glasses about people who are influenced by religion to do horrible things. As many people are. And this is the point Geert Wilders is making.

Now, I mean, that was six years ago that we interviewed him. I know a lot has happened in the Netherlands since then. I’m not sure of everything he’s said. I don’t stand by everything he’s said, I’m sure. But he’s somebody who is saying: Don’t look at religions, and especially the Islamic religion, through rose-colored glasses. And I would totally agree with that.

We interviewed a lot of Muslim people for this movie and, you know, the liberal point of view here in America is, “Yes, all religions are the same. They all try to reach god through the same …” — Not true! All religions are not the same.

If you ask a lot of Muslim people, and I’m talking about people who are considered moderate Muslims, “Do you think it’s OK if violence comes to somebody who insults the prophet?” a lot of them will say: You know what? If you insult the prophet, you get what’s coming to you.

OK, that’s not how we roll here in the West. And I don’t just roll over when I hear that and go, “Well, you know what? That’s their religion.” Well, maybe that is their religion, but I don’t have to agree with it.

But then, what can you expect from a man who fears that Islam will conquer the West, worries that an “alarming” number of “baby Mohammeds” are being born in the UK, and condemns Islam as “a culture that is in its medieval era” and “comes from a hate-filled holy book, the Koran”?

He and Wilders have so much in common. They even offer the same excuse for their bigotry – that their hatred of Islam isn’t directed against the individuals and communities who follow that faith.

    @Ringing Bell

    Please, Bill Maher has enough company among loonwatch’s trolls.

  • khushboo

    Ringing bell doesn’t understand Islamophobia because he/she is an Islamophobe! It’s typical that when you speak against these idiots, they automatically call you “anti-semitic”.

  • Ringing Bell

    This page is a cesspool of anti-semitic terrorist spin mixed with idiocy in the name of altruism.

    “Islamophobia” is such a rediclulus term especially for a religion that is both in ideology AND practice by far the most violent on the planet.

    “Tolerance of intolerance is cowardice”

    - Ayaan Hirsi Ali

  • Abdul-Rahman

    Another good article. Bill Maher is a Zionist prick, as others mentioned here he actually mocked anti-Zionist Jews but never went to see the vile, racist, scumbag Jewish settlers in the occupied Palestinian West Bank who are some of the most disgusting evil people one can imagine http://www.btselem.org/.

    Also it is ironic that a militant atheist like Bill Maher is supporting a movement (Zionist) that bases its territorial claims (aka colonialist aspirations) on the Bible (even though most of the early Zionist figures were secular and even atheistic themselves, they employed Jewish religious rhetoric when needed putting aside the issue of the “3 Oaths” in the Jewish Talmud Kethuboth 111a saying Jews aren’t allowed to rule Palestine according to Jewish religious law until what they view as the Messiah comes http://www.jewsagainstzionism.com/zionism/3strongoaths.cfm)

    Video on this general topic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYJ6wbZyuys

  • http://www.yellow-stars.com eslaporte

    Geert Wilders is now talking “partiotism,” but does not actually know what it means in the Dutch context.

    Dutch patriotism surrounds liberation from the Spanish rule, the House of Orange, and religious tolerance.

    Hating Muslims is anti-Dutch and against the country’s tradition of religious tolerance. The Dutch should return to the pillar system that they had up until the 1970s and there should be a Moroccan pillar – just as there was a catholic pillar.

    Also – WHO is “trying to silence Wilders?”
    It is actually Wilders and his PVV political party that has silenced critics.

    @Géji

    His name is Richard Coughlan. He’s a comedian who goes by the name Coughlan616 and Coughlan 000 on youtube. He maybe exaggerating a bit when he talks about people either blinding loving or hating Israel in that one sentence. Overall through, he is a pretty good anti loon.

  • Géji

    @Dragon I’m talking about his remarks on the second video.

  • Géji

    Dragon, I like that guy’s comments a lot, he seem to be someone that is not afraid to tell it like it is. I can’t remember his name but his comments most of the time seem pretty objective and good hearted. But though it may be true for some cases, I think his remarks from 1:30 to 1:38 are not very accurate for most cases.

  • Dehnus

    I don’t mind Bill Maher’s point of view on Islam. But what really sets him up as an idiot, is how he treats the Republicans. Not because I like Republicans… but because he is utterly STUPID in how he talks about them. Often he talks about “being in the bubble” while he is in a gigantic bubble himself. Usually covering himself up with booksmarts of the latests book he memorized, but besides memorising books he scientific qualities of deduction lack tremendously. Yet he acts like he is the smartest person in his show, now I agree he can be funny at times, but most of the times he just comes across as a DICK! A pretentious and self important DICK!

    Who looks down on anybody who doesn’t agree with his view, now I know Republicans make that quite easy to look down on them (all in an effort to create a “liberal elite” that they can seem to be the underdog off). But still, by acting like he does he hurts his points far more then actually helping them.

  • Mohammad Khan

    What a hateful little man. I’m glad I watched Religulous so I could witness truly how arrogant and conceited he is. He states his belief about moderate Muslims like a fact that should be obvious when in reality, it would only be a fact in the mind of a prejudiced fool.

    @CriticalDragon1177

    I am well aware of the taqiyya skills (spin technics) at Loonwatch, but it is nice to see Muslims making fun of themselves.

  • Geoff Cavendish

    Doesn’t surprise me. Maher gets most of his ideas from Sam Harris.

  • Bird

    @Rocky
    Geert should not treat every Muslims like scum for some Moroccan assassin.

  • Rocky Lore

    Geert Wilders is not the fascist. The liberals and Muslims who want to censor him are. If LoonWatch knew about Theo van Gogh (the filmmaker killed by a Muslim), they would understand why Wilders has his views.

    That would be YOU…. lol check the main page b4 commenting next time

    “We don’t hate YOU, just your beliefs, way of life and everything you stand for.”

    Bill, I don’t hate you for being a lying prejudiced clown. I just hate the fact that you are.

    Next time, at least check the stories that were recently covered on the front page before linking to one that you think refutes something written here.

    What else do you expect? Both are Zionist scumbags.

  • Poyani

    I am an Atheist and I watched Religulous. It was beyond idiotic. When it came to the middle-east, Maher presented everything through a finely tuned pro-Israeli lens. His example for Jewish extremism was a group of peaceful anti-Zionist Rabbis.

    He could have interviewed the violent and crazy Israeli settlers who are the primary cause of the conflict. He could have interviewed the Rabbis who live off of the Israeli state and pay no taxes or do any work. He could have interviewed the fascist group that killed Israeli PM Rabin because of his peace overtures.

    But instead, Maher’s documentary which tried to show the ridiculous nature of religion, became an apologist for a state which was founded on the basis that god promised land to a particular race of people (but in his infinite wisdom forgot the receipt).

  • JD

    Bill Maher Hates religion loves to be the mouth piece and propaganda machine for a religious state

    As long as its nothing against Israel a religious state Bill is ok with it. When someone points the mess up actions of israel Bill will defend it like his life depends on it.. even though he is a ” Athiest”
