The Nuclear Card

Geert Wilders Quotes Tancredo: “Miami is a Third World Country”

Posted on 06 July 2012 by Emperor

Geert Wilders, one of the scummiest politicians in Europe unsurprisingly quoted the anti-Latino racist and “Nuke Mecca” advocate, former politician Tom Tancredo on Miami.

These hypocrites and supremacists will likely be the first ones trying to get a tan on Miami’s famous beaches:

Geert Wilders quotes Tancredo: “Miami is a Third World Country”

(Imagine 2050)

The rise of the far-right across Europe is disturbing enough, but attention must surely be given when oceans are being crossed, and international connections are being deepened. On Saturday June 30th, the far-right Dutch politician Geert Wilders, leader of the populist Freedom Party that is seeking to rid the Netherlands of all Muslims, spoke at the Western Conservative Summit 2012 in Denver, CO.

During his speech, Wilders, as per usual, lamented the imminent, mortal threat of Islam, but also quoted Colorado’s own Tom Tancredo, head of Team America PAC:

“There is only one Islam and it is a dangerous ideology. It is intolerant, it is violent. It should not be tolerated, but should be contained. In Europe, we are experiencing that if Islam becomes stronger in a society – even when the majority of Muslims are moderates – a society becomes less free and more intolerant of non- Muslims. Former congressman Tom Tancredo, a native and inhabitant of this great city, whom I visited in his office in Washington in late 2008, once said referring to Miami: ‘Look at what has happened to Miami. It has become a Third World country. You would never know you’re in the United States of America. You would certainly say you’re in a Third World country’.”

Wilders and his party are recognized — along with Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer, Brigitte Gabriel, and their groups here in America — as an inspiration to Anders Behring Breivik, the far-right Norwegian mass murderer who mentions Wilders by name 15 times throughout his manifesto. The band of neo-Nazis/football hooligans known as the English Defence League (EDL) are big fans of Wilders, too (Breivik also drew significant inspiration from the EDL).

Wilders spoke this past weekend alongside Frank Gaffney, whose anti-Islam group, the Center for Security Policy, co-sponsored the event. Gaffney was just recently profiled as one of “30 to Watch: 30 Activists Heading Up the Radical Right” by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Gaffney is so far-right/anti-Islam that he even was barred from this year’s more mainstream CPAC Conference. Gaffney has also hosted Wilders and a huge clump of the far-right on his radio show, Secure Freedom Radio.

More than a few stalwarts of the anti-immigrant movement have also been hosted by Gaffney: Mark Krikorian and Rosemary Jenks of the Center for Immigration Studies, Brian Bilbray of the House Immigriton Reform Caucus, etc.

We’ll default to a warning issued by Marc Sageman, a former CIA officer and consultant on terrorism, concerning what happens when these folks get together: “This rhetoric is not cost-free.”

Tomad Says.. “Third world means “brown people everywhere.””

Yeah, maybe you may right. But what do we call the raggedy looking, missing most teeth white people that populates outskirt bidonvilles in most western major cities? Does it say in this case ‘Third world’ would mean “poor, dirty white people everywhere”

  • Tomad

Third world means “brown people everywhere.”

I didn’t grow up in a third-world country. I grew up in a steaming tropical port, one naive and idle and full of exotic dreams when I was, bustling and laid-back at once when I was, pressured and full of moxie when I was, and thickening and congested when…oh, well. I wanted to get out and see the world; I can’t say I didn’t, but when I went back, the world came to see me. Those who live inside a legend never know it at the time, but I realize now I was truly privileged. Tom Tancredo, stay in your home state; it’s square, like you.

We should be glad Geert is starting to spread the hate toward Latinos in the states , especially in Florida the Cuban Americans often are Republican .. Right wing racism would drive these away from their party ..

  • CentristAmericanMuslim

My wife and I were vacationing in Miami the past week. We had a great time and it certainly didn’t seem as if Miami was a “third world country” as these morons have stated.

Also, what the heck does the Miami quote have to do with Islam or Muslims anyway?

  • Zakariya Ali Sher

Screw Tom Tancredo and Geert Wilders both. The two are just racist politicians who spew some of the most vile hate, all while claiming they are just ‘misunderstood.’ I’m American and proud to be both Muslim and Multiculturalist. More to the point, I’d rather be in Florida than some stuffy gated yuppie community up in Colorado any day!

    @Grrt

That is good news: That another left what is now a one man party. And you make an excellent point that Wilders never limited his bigotry to Muslims. I find that to be true of most all Islamophobes: They are almost always also prejudiced toward Latinos, blacks, First American, and sometimes women and Jewish people as well.

  • Grrt

And just now I read the news that another member of parliament left Wilders’ PVV.

  • Grrt

It just goes to show that when they run out of Muslims they’ll turn on Latinos or everyone else who’s not white enough for them. Wilders never limited his racism to Muslims, one of his other main targets from the start was Antillians (people from the Netherlands Antilles, who are mostly black descendants of African slaves). And lately he has been trying to convince the Dutch that Eastern Europeans are all criminals.
Anyway, the good news is he made so many enemies by now there is not a snowball’s chance in hell he’ll ever be part of any government coalition again. The right now hates him more than the left ever have. And this week two more members of parliament defected from his ‘party’ (not really a party because parties have more than one member).

@JSB, it was a joke based on my reading of the headline and skimming the article.

Agreed that he didn’t say it, that he chose to quote Tancredo saying it, and yes Wilders is guilty of a lot of stupid things (I’ve written articles on such stupidity), but Miami not being in Florida is not one of them.

Also I thought your comment had been approved, as it appeared so on my screen. :)

  • Just Stopping By

@Garibaldi: Wilders is guilty of much more than just parroting Tancredo’s offensiveness. But not knowing that Miami is a city in Florida is not one of his offenses.

  • Garibaldi

    @JSB,

I actually did read it, but skimmed through it, but, oops, good point.

I guess in that case he is only guilty of parroting Tancredo’s stupidity.

  • Just Stopping By

@Garibaldi: “I think it’s hilarious that Wilders said “Miami is a third world country,” he obviously doesn’t know that it is a city in Florida.”

Umm, perhaps you should read the whole article and not just the headline.

Wilders is quoted as saying, “Former congressman Tom Tancredo, a native and inhabitant of this great city, whom I visited in his office in Washington in late 2008, once said referring to Miami: ‘Look at what has happened to Miami. It has become a Third World country. You would never know you’re in the United States of America. You would certainly say you’re in a Third World country’.”

  • Garibaldi

I think it’s hilarious that Wilders said “Miami is a third world country,” he obviously doesn’t know that it is a city in Florida.

@Mindy, it is very disturbing, but then, what did can we all expect from these clowns?

  • mindy1

    This is disturbing… :(
