Hank Williams Jr.: Obama Is ‘A Muslim President Who Hates Farming, Hates The Military, Hates The U.S. And We Hate Him’

Posted on 19 August 2012 by Emperor

Hank Williams Jr. is revealing the Southern Strategy, making racism fashionable amongst Conservatives. A quite prescient commenter on the Huffington Post article asks,

Is it just me or has the “southern strategy” come to fruition, making racist hatred, homophobia and Islamophobia fashionable among the conservative set. What a proud achievement.

Hank Williams Jr.: Obama Is ‘A Muslim President Who Hates Farming, Hates The Military, Hates The U.S. And We Hate Him’

Hank Williams Jr. reprised his role as a fiery anti-Obama blowhard on Friday, telling fans at a concert that the president was Muslim and anti-American.

The statement came near the end of a concert at the Iowa State Fair Grandstand. Williams Jr.’s comments were first reported in a review by Des Moines Register reporter Joe Lawler.

According to Lawler, the show was relatively free of politics until the end, when Williams Jr. made the following claims: “We’ve got a Muslim president who hates farming, hates the military, hates the U.S. and we hate him!”

The comments were apparently met with applause and loud cheers.

Williams Jr. made waves in October 2011, when he appeared on “Fox and Friends” and likened the president to Hitler.

That statement resulted in ESPN yanking Williams Jr.’s opening song from “Monday Night Football,” where the country star’s song had played for over two decades.

Though he later said his “Fox and Friends” comments were “misunderstood,” Williams Jr. has continued to be outspoken in his dislike of Obama. He also released a song entitled “Keep the Change,” in which he derides not only the president but also Fox, who he describes as “twisting [his words] all around.”

In a July 2012 interview with Rolling Stone, Williams Jr. doubled down on his particularly blunt brand of criticism of the Obama administration.

“We’ve got a President that does a call to the Koran or Mecca or whatever,” he told the magazine. When asked if he believed Obama hated America, Williams Jr. responded, “I don’t know about that but it’s kind of obvious. I guess when you take a tour, a world tour, to apologize for America.”

A number of entertainers have come out in support of Obama and/or against the Romney-Ryan ticket. The Silversun Pickups issued a strongly worded cease-and-desist letter to Romney when it was revealed that the campaign had played one of their songs. The campaign responded by saying it was within its legal rights in playing “Panic Switch” and added that the song was not among those usually played and would not be used again.

Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine wrote a takedown of Rep. Paul Ryan. Ryan had previously said that Rage was his favorite band. In his op-ed, Morello wrote that Ryan represented “the embodiment of the machine our music rages against.”

But Williams Jr. is not alone in the entertainment world. Musician Ted Nugent has made a cottage industry out of criticizing Obama, most recently claiming that the president “represents everything bad about humanity.” Nugent was investigated by the Secret Service after he made the bizarre claim that a second Obama victory would result in the singer either being “dead or in jail.”

    Good point Zak!

On the subject of ‘rednecks,’ I have to say that yes, there are many ‘rednecks’ in the South, and few ‘rednecks’ would take offense at the term. Indeed, many would view it as a badge of honor. I think the bigger problem is implying that all, or even most, ‘rednecks’ are somehow racist, bigoted or ignorant. Equally bad is assuming that all Southerners are racist, bigoted or ignorant. Yes, racism still exists in the South, but it gets a far worse (and undeserved) reputation for it than the North. Is anyone seriously going to tell me that New York city, where the police were spying on Muslims and the so-called ‘Ground Zero Mosque’ is still only a pipe dream, is somehow less racist than, say, Tennessee, where the Murfeesboro Masjid is going ahead despite some small objections from bigots? Most Southerners have been good, honest and kind people who know the value of hospitality.

    Daniel,

Meryem didn’t say all Southerners were rednecks, she said Hank was a redneck from the South. If he is from the South, then her comments were not objectionable because it’s not generalising nor does it mean that all Southerners are rednecks. Just as all rednecks aren’t Southerners. I’m sure there must be some East Coast rednecks too :)

    and West Coast, lol

Hank Williams JR. is out of touch.

“We’ve got a Muslim president who hates farming, hates the military, hates the U.S. and we hate him!”

If that were so, then Obama wouldn’t be heading for a second victory. Dont’t the latest polls show Obama leading Romney? I think another 4 years is his, unless Romney has some hidden surprises.

That said there isn’t much difference between the two.

Is Obama still the favourite of American Muslims?

  • Daniel

Ok, Meryem, I’ll try to respond as civilly as I can:

“Ok I will now refer to the arrogant Daniel who is disagreeing with me as Daniel#1.”

Exactly why do you consider me “arrogant”?

    “Leave me alone”

You posted on a public forum and I responded. You’re telling me to “leave you alone” as if I don’t have a right to respond to your posts. As you state below you are “allowed to express [your] opinion”; will you extend to me the same courtesy?

“and YES you are getting all preachy on me.”

I specifically directed my response on “preachiness” to you about the calling Hank Williams Jr a “redneck”. Look above. If you want to call my post against what I believe to be prejudice “preachy”, well, I’ll accept that. I don’t really mind being called “preachy” when I point out prejudice.

“You know what I am saying is true”

Really, Meryem? Just like Islamaphobes tell us that we “know” those evil Moozlims are really not to be trusted and secretly planning to kill all infidels?

“I am allowed to express my opinion, and I really don’t care if you don’t like it.”

Never said you weren’t allowed to express your opinion, Meryem. I hope you extend that freedom to me, and even to bigots like Hank Williams, Jr.

“Let me be entitled to my own opinion, which is that Hank Williams Jr is an ignorant, Islamophobic redneck.”

Oh, I agree. I don’t dispute that one bit. What I’m disputing is the soft bigotry of low expectations that you seem to have about all white southerners, that they have a tendency to be Islamaphobic bigots. It is exactly the same attitude that bigots have about inner city African Americans, or Latinos, or Muslims. Whenever we engage in profiling a group because of race, religion, place of origin, sexual orientation, disability, etc.–we become bigots.

I was also not surprised about Hank Williams Jr.’s comments, either. But it wasn’t because he was a white southerner. It’s because he’s made equally vile comments in the past. I judge individuals, not groups.

“I am not criticizing Christianity. I have no issue with Christians or Christianity. What I do take issue with is certain interpretations of Christianity where the Bible is used to advocate and defend bigotry or hate. I am Muslim and I have the same issues with Muslim groups who interpret Islam and the Quran to justify hate, violence and extremism.”

Sorry, perhaps my interpretation of your use of “Bible Belt” was overly sensitive.

    “Have a good day.”

Back at you, Meryem. And I do mean that sincerely. My first post to you was a gentle attempt to show that your comments were prejudging those who share Mr.Williams’ “demographic”. You decided to take offense, but I did not mean to escalate this conversation as it has gone. For that, I am sorry, and I’ll let you have the last word.

  • Meryem

Ok I will now refer to the arrogant Daniel who is disagreeing with me as Daniel#1. Leave me alone and YES you are getting all preachy on me. You know what I am saying is true. I am allowed to express my opinion, and I really don’t care if you don’t like it. Let me be entitled to my own opinion, which is that Hank Williams Jr is an ignorant, Islamophobic redneck. I am not criticizing Christianity. I have no issue with Christians or Christianity. • Daniel

BTW, the “Daniel” addressing Meryam (me) is not the same as the “Daniel” who posted the “Hank youn’re a Moozlim…” comment above.

This gets pretty confusing at times; is there any way we can get user names that are unique here?

  • Daniel

Meryam, let’s look at the next statement you made:

“@Daniel, I am not trying to be judgemental or prejudiced, but look at the demographic comes from. He is from the deep southern Bible Belt, where people are generally very Republican and this demographic of people has a reputation of being Islamophobic. So honestly to me knowing his background and where he comes from, it doesn’t really surprise me that he feels this way. By the way I am not the only poster on here who called HW Jr a redneck so don’t get all preachy on me.”

By focusing on “demographic”, you are giving credence to using “demographic” as a predictor of individual behavior. This is the exact defenition of prejudice. You predict that people from the “deep southern Bible belt” (regional origin, as well as an implicit criticism of Christianity) and “reputation” (meaning “stereotype”) as a predictor of behavior.

How is this different from someone stating that they “aren’t surprised” when a criminal is arrested when they find out they are minority because their “demographic” (e.g., inner city African American) is somehow a great predictor of criminal behavior.

And no, I’m not getting “preachy” for you calling him a “redneck”. For one, rednecks often do not consider “redneck” a pejorative term, nor do they equate redneck with “bigot”.

  • Meryem

@Daniel, I am not trying to be judgemental or prejudiced, but look at the demographic Hank Williams comes from. He is from the deep southern Bible Belt, where people are generally very Republican and this demographic of people has a reputation of being Islamophobic. So honestly to me knowing his background and where he comes from, it doesn’t really surprise me that he feels this way. By the way I am not the only poster on here who called HW Jr a redneck so don’t get all preachy on me.

  • Daniel

    Meryem, you wrote:

“This doesn’t surprise me. He is a redneck from the south, what do you expect?”

So…let’s say a Yemenite said something hateful about someone. Would you say “This doesn’t surprise me. He is a raghead from Arabia, what do you expect?”

Please don’t use hate and stereotypes to fight hate and stereotypes.

  • Daniel

    Hank youn’re a mooslim ! You aint foolin no-one with -

  • Ahmad

Damn. this guy is a loon.

A few days ago, one of my favorite musicians Dave Mustaine of Megadeth dissed Obama with a silly comment although Dave Mustaine did not involve any racial or religious prejudice.

I’m praying he does not go racist/prejudiced like this guy.

  • Zakariya Ali Sher

What a pity. Bigotry aside, there are plenty of legitimate criticisms of Obama that don’t fall back on calling him a ‘secret Muslim,’ or having him born in Kenya. You know, things like policies and what not. But I guess that doesn’t make for nice, bite-sized nuggets that the media loves so much. I’m just sick of the idea that as a Muslim somehow I am un-American, or worse, barred from running for President some day. I mean, yes, I prefer the private sector, but it’s still the principle of the whole thing.

Ah well, at least I can still listen to Hank III AND the original Hank Williams, thank you very much…

  • mindy1

Whatever happend to just disagreeing??? :(

  • Crow

ted nugent and hank williams are typical of the dirty looking rednecks who are serious about wanting to nuke Mecca and Iran then like to tell you what good christians they are

  • http://www.wmonline.com BuddhaShrink

Hatred towards President Obama and Islamophobia is a deadly cocktail.

It was only this past August 6th, exactly two weeks ago, that a skinhead, neo-Nazi heavy metal band member, who sang songs of hate, killed six Sikhs and wounded others in their house of worship. The day after a mosque in Joplin, Mo. was burned to the ground.

Let the fear and hate stop!

And may Light come upon Hank Williams’ dark heart soon; before it is too late.

    Happy Eid al – Fitr!

  • Reynardine

I bet his beer barrel belly is covered with interesting tattoos.

  • Meryem

This doesn’t surprise me. He is a redneck from the south, what do you expect?
