Rep. Joe Walsh: Muslims “trying to kill Americans”

Posted on 09 August 2012 by Emperor

Rep. Joe Walsh has a history of bigoted anti-Islam and anti-Muslim statements. In a recent town hall the Congressman didn’t even have the decency to correct a man in the crowd who described Islam as a “dangerous” threat to the USA,

“I’m looking for some godly men and women in the Senate, in the Congress, who will stand in the face of the danger of Islam in America without political correctness,” the man said.  “Islam is not the peaceful, loving religion we hear about.”

The line was met with applause.

Perhaps he was fearful of doing the right thing, considering all of the applause that the crowd member received. If that is the case Walsh is not only an appeaser of bigotry but also an amoral coward.

Instead, Walsh stoked the populist flames of anti-Muslim sentiments further to a crowd that clearly wasn’t able to differentiate between extremists and the vast majority of Muslims,

Walsh responded by asserting that radical Muslims are “trying to kill Americans every week,” and that “it’s not a matter of ‘if’ – it’s a matter of ‘when’” a 9/11-like attack will happen again.

“All I can tell you about the ‘when’ is, the people who would want to do this to America are trying to get their hands on weapons that will make 9/11 look like child’s play.”

Added Walsh: “So we had better be alert to this.  And as [the audience member] said … ‘Enough with political correctness!”

The crowd, which was mostly white, applauded.

This fear-mongering and over exaggeration of the threat from Islamist extremists is exactly what we don’t need from politicians. It promotes ignorance, bigotry, sectarianism and divisiveness.

Walsh: Muslims “trying to kill Americans”

by Eric Lutz (Salon.com)

U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh went on another anti-Islam tirade Wednesday, calling for an end to “political correctness” in dealing with the “radical strain of Islam” he described as an imminent danger to America.

“It’s a real threat,” Walsh said at a town hall meeting in Elk Grove Village, Ill.  “And it’s a threat that is much more at home now than it was right after 9/11.”

“It’s here,” he continued, referring to “radical Islam” in the suburbs of Chicago. “It’s in Elk Grove, it’s in Addison, it’s in Elgin. It’s here.”

The remarks — captured on tape — came in response to an Egyptian-American audience member who said Muslims are taking over America and charged the freshman congressman to take a more aggressive stance against the religion.

“I’m looking for some godly men and women in the Senate, in the Congress, who will stand in the face of the danger of Islam in America without political correctness,” the man said.  “Islam is not the peaceful, loving religion we hear about.”

The line was met with applause.

“Can you say ‘Fort Hood’?” Walsh continued, referring to the 2009 shooting at the Texas military base that left 13 dead and 29 wounded.  A report concluded the shooter, Nidal Malik Hasan, was a homegrown terrorist.

“Your government was so afraid of doing its job, so afraid of offending Islam, that right in front of our noses, they saw what was happening at Fort Hood and because the government’s politically correct, Americans died.”

The Tea Party Republican, who serves on the Homeland Security Committee, has been known for his incendiary remarks since winning his House seat in 2010. He set off a media firestorm last month when he appeared to question the heroism of his opponent, Democrat Tammy Duckworth, an Iraq war vet who lost both her legs in combat.

    @ peasant pork: Very true. Loonwatch has mentioned time and again that it is not religion which fuels “Muslim” terrorists; it is western foreign policy including a long history of invasions, occupations, and support for invasions and occupations (such as israel). I think Loonwatch posted an article a while back about how “terrorists” of Muslim backround do not site passages of the Quran which (when taken out of context) may allow killing of non-Muslims. They actually site passages dealing with self defense; because their actions are a RESPONSE to western actions and rhetoric such as the wars in Muslim countries and the propaganda surrounding them. Not saying their actions are right. Just that they are a response to the aggressions of the west.

    And why are you people so obsessed with pigs and pork? Lol do you think it is some sort of kryptonite to us? We’re just not allowed to eat it. It doesn’t actually hurt us or weaken us in anyway. In the words of Aasiv Mandvi, “we’re not allowed to eat pork, but I’m pretty sure we can kick it’s ass” (in the verbal sense I mean)! That comment was in reference to a comic book character btw. I’m not making any threats (in case the phobes get their panties in a bunch).

    @Hatethehaterz
    We were never ment to invade or occupy, we are were ment to protect our borders from invasion. I can not say much about the president cause I am not allowed. But I’m here to say that 90% don’t want to go over to Afghan.

  • Hatethehaterz

    @ Josh: I understand that not every western soldier joined for the express purpose of killing Muslims; however, given the rampant Islamophobia in the west I daresay that a significant portion of the military did. And I must disagree that the military was never meant to invade or harm. That is exactly what they are doing. Invading foreign countries, and killing civilians by the thousands. Many of these deaths may be “collateral damage” but that does not excuse the perpetrators nor absolve them of guilt. The wars themselves are unjust invasions and occupations meant to fatten the wallets of the military industrial complex. What do you think you will be doing there? Handing out flowers and candy to kids? Who do you think we are fighting over there? “Insurgent” is just a fancy code word to obfuscate the fact that we are fighting a ragtag bunch of civilians who believe they are fighting for their freedom and the safety of their family against foreign invaders.

    Walsh insinuates that ALL Muslims in America and Islam itself is a threat. I countered that it is infact the opposite which is closer to the truth. It is US soldiers in Muslim countries which have killed far more people than any nutty “terrorists” here.

    Besides, didn’t you in another thread state that you hated Muslims and Islam because of what happened to your father and uncle? So your not looking forward to killing some Muslims to get a little “payback?”

    And you are very correct about our current president. I’m not happy with his foreign policy at all. However he is not all that different from his predecesors. Irrespective of party affiliation, U.S. presidents since Reagen (maybe even before that) have conducted operations in Muslim countries and have unconditionally backed and supported Israeli zionists in their ethnic cleansing of Palestine. Disagreeing with the war on Islam (I mean “terror”) does not make me a liberal.

    The terrorists who happened to come from Muslim backgrounds were either U.S. citizens, or legal immigrants who acted as individuals. They did not act on behalf of or with the blessings or permission of a foreign country or their local or global Muslim community. Quite the opposite infact. The U.S. soldiers in Muslim countries by contrast really are an invading and occupying force. And the primary purpose of said invasion does involve killing any local Muslim freedom fighters opposed to the invasion of their country.

    I’m a bit saddened to see Native Americans take part in invasions/occupations of other countries. The Native Muslim friends/acquaintences I know have said they would never join the army which centuries ago killed their people and stole their land.

  • Josh

    @Ge’ji
    you are mad at the wrong people. Don’t get mad at the soldiers get mad at politicians that send th soldeirs, get mad at the president not us. As a soldier you must follow orders, you people act as if we voted on going to Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia.

    Am I hearing correctly?

    Lord Pork, are u insinuating that America’s actions over the last ten years have been proportionate and justified? Please explain.

  • http://gmail LORD Pork

    @ Ge’ji :Newton’s law of motion says;EVERY ACTION HAS EQUAL AND OPPOSITE REACTION{DEPENDING ON THE LEVERAGE}.

  • Géji

    @Josh, can please state the total number of Muslims just in Iraq and Afghanistan (not to mention Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia) that perished (so far) at the hand of your American “soldiers” and the regime that sent them down there for what again Josh? hand them flowery “freedom”!?

  • Josh

    @Hatethehaterz

    Okay seriously you make it look like all military does nothing but kill muslims which is highly not true. Do really believe soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen do nothing but kill muslims? Like we are some organization bent on killing innocents. I’m not saying that’s never happen their was one soldier who acted out on killing innocent civillians and he is going to be punished but I’m saying is the military was never ment to invade or harm innocent. If you wanna get mad get mad at the president that so many liberals keep defending. I am a US Army soldier undergoing special training before I get shiped out. When I join the Army I didn’t join and said I’m doing it so I can kill muslims, I join for one thing it’s a family tradition and the Army has alot of opportunities for my skills, and don’t say muslims have never came here and killed americans, cause you might be forgetting 9/11 or the Fort Hood shooting and just recently a muslim soldier planned to bomb soldiers near Fort Hood. So don’t act like Americans have never been slaughtered in thier own country.

    Frantz Fanon would describe him as a “native intellectual”, whose mind is colonized by the dominant culture he aspires to belong to. This is the history of every immigrant group in the United States that has sold its soul to assimilate and climb the class ladder. There are a ton of other names to describe this practice: comprador, house slave, native informer, Uncle Tom, etc. Just because he is Egyptian doesn’t mean he can’t be of a class that shares globalizing Anglo-Saxon values. Perhaps he supported the Mubarak regime. This is a question of class and self-positioning in the face of domination. To assume that his ethnicity or nationality has more sway in this regard than his class is racist in and of itself.

    “Muslims should expose their people who wish to harm and hurt Americans and Europeans otherwise their futue is very bleak in the West.”

    Nice try. What makes you think Muslims aren’t already doing what you are suggesting? And if you say, “Muslims don’t speak out against terrorism”, I will send you multiple sources proving the opposite, “Lord Pork.”

  • Garibaldi

    @windsofchange,

    To answer your question: Yes, he does very much sound like a bigot.

  • windsofchange

    And what of the man who started this discussion? He is allegedly Egyptian, so does his views make him a bigot too? What would prompt him to say such a thing?

    Lawerance…the white people tend to remember hurt done to them for a long time to come…thanks for admiting this is about race. Now lets look at a short list of who white people hurt..Native Americans (theft and genocide, including germ warfard), the Natives of South America (theft and genocide), trying to colonizing African countries (murder and theft) and thats just the start of it..theres much, much more than whats listed, the west has done the most harm to the peoples of the world

    After what we had here in Milwaukee this week: “Muslims are trying to kill Americans?”

    This fellow lives on another planet ….

  • LORD Pork

    A bad name is worse than the bad deed.Islam is the other name for terrorism in the West.Muslims should expose their people who wish to harm and hurt Americans and Europeans otherwise their futue is very bleak in the West.The white people often remember any harm done to them for a long time to come.

  • GW

    @emperor you characterized Mr Walsh as a bigot. How would you classify the Egyptian man who asked the question which seems to have you in an uproar?

  • Common Sense

    Go ahead Walsh. Go ahead and jump on the bigot bandwagon. Too bad for you the wagon is headed for a cliff.

  • Crow

    Why is it whenever these scumbags wether its a right-wing politicians or one of the brainless troglodytes on one of genocidal hatesites talk about another 9-11 they seem hopeful about it. Also The US kills Muslims everyday just about so shut the f up

  • Hatethehaterz

    This is nothing more than projection. It is in fact Americans (a select group of them anyways) who are trying to kill Muslims every day. How many thousands of American military forces are currently in Muslim countries killing Muslims? Several thousand. And how many soldiers from Muslim countries are in the U.S.? Oh ya, none. So who’s trying to kill who again?

    Also, I’m kind of surprised this guy is from the Chicago area. Chicago is a very diverse city with a large Muslim population. Didn’t know there were enough haters there to elect a jerk like this.

  • http://ilfdinar.wordpress.com/ ilfdinar

    where are all the muslim politicians

  • mindy1

    All I can say is :headdesk:

    Joe Walsh is a jerk. Did you see what he said about US Army Vet, Tammy Duckworth, he complained about her talking about her service too much, and she is a double amputee!

  • Zakariya Ali Sher

    I’m ashamed to be in the same state as this braying asshole.
