The Nuclear Card

Mohamed “Mo” Farah Proves that Western Muslims are Beyond “Integration”

Posted on 07 August 2012 by Emperor

Mohamed "Mo" Farah prostrating after winning the gold medal.

Mohamed “Mo” Farah prostrating after winning the gold medal.

When a Western Muslim excels at sports or academics, he is lauded as just another citizen: British, French, German, American, etc. For example, when Zinedine Zidane was leading France to victory, his Muslimness never came up, but when he head-butted an Italian player all of a sudden there was a turn to talk about “Algerian,” “Ghetto” and “Muslim” roots contributing to his supposed “irrational behavior.” This is in the backdrop of the continuing attempts to vilify Western Muslims as the evil “other,” who through stealth means are creating pockets of “no-go zones” meant to “Islamify.”

Now that “Mo” Farah has done the Union Jack proud by decisively winning the 10,000m final, Britain’s first gold in the race, voices are quite “mute” about his “Muslimsness,” now he is just the pride and joy of Britain.

Such a victory must make the collective brains of EDL thugs and their allies explode, just imagine them seeing Farah prostrate in a very Muslim-y way, thanking God for the victory. It symbolically proves that Muslims in the West are largely well beyond the point of “integration,” they are already an integral part of Western society, just as much as other citizens, and should be treated that way.

Mohamed “Mo” Farah Inspired By Jessica Ennis’ Win

Mohamed “Mo” Farah, a British Somali international track and field athlete, won the Olympic 10,000m gold. This was Great Britain’s first Olympic gold medal in the 10,000m.

Mo Farah Inspired By Jessica Ennis’ Win

Mo Farah revealed that he was inspired to gold on Saturday night after seeing Jessica Ennis win gold.

It was a golden night in the Olympic stadium as both Jess Ennis and Greg Rutherford picked up gold medals in the heptathlon and long jump before Mo Farah took to the track.

And Farah admits that he had seen Jess with the Union Flag and that inspired him ahead of his 10,000m final.

Speaking to BBC Sport Farah said: “I saw Jess with a flag and knew she must have won gold and I just felt I had to win.”

“As I came through the tunnel, people were just shouting ‘Go Mo!’ and the atmosphere was something else.

“I was really buzzing, it was like someone had just given me 10 cups of coffee, I was just pumped up so much.”

Four years ago it was disappointment in Beijing as the dominance of the African runners continued – but in London he was the dominant force.

It was a slow run race with many of the major medal contenders still in contention with just a lap to go.

But Farah surged ahead at the bell and the rest of the field were unable to catch his as he crossed the line in a time of 27 minutes 30.42 seconds.

Farah’s training partner Galen Rupp took the silver while Tariku Bekele won the bronze.

And he could add to that medal tally as he is set to run in the 5,000m later this week.

    @MF Mohamad
Prostrating doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re a muslim, Usain was bowing down before God to publicly thank for his blessings

So I was confused by this article because I thought that I had read a lot of articles that referred specifically to Mo Farah’s religion. I did a quick google search and I found a lot of examples specifically referring to his religion, here are just a couple in mainstream newspapers

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2012/aug/11/mo-farah-olympic-stadium-london-2012

“And the patron saint of this country on Saturday night became a skinny man called Mohamed who was born in Mogadishu, a devout Muslim who last weekend said the best moment of his life was not winning a gold medal but seeing his daughter, Rihanna, and pregnant wife, Tania, walk on to the track to greet him.”

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/olympics/article-2185599/London-2012-Olympics-Mo-Farah-achievements-helps-unite-country-says-Amir-Khan.html

“The expectations will be just as high now that he’s qualified for the 5,000m final. I think what Mo has achieved, considering he is a Muslim, helps unite the country and lets everyone see that this nation is made up of so many different individuals who can go on and make Britain proud by achieving success.”

“We have seen the true colours of British greatness with champions of every hue — a mixed-race Yorkshire lass, a Muslim refugee and a ginger.”

“We’ve heard a lot about belonging and loyalty and allegiance, Muslim first or British first. On Saturday Mo Farah gave us the answer: British Muslim and proud proud proud.”

“In the moment of his greatest triumph he also thought to mention the auction being held on September 1 for his charity The Mo Farah Foundation, which provides aid to east Africa.Shortly before the start of the race Farah, 29, a practicing Muslim, gave a short prayer.”

I’m a Muslim British of North African descent. I had tears in my eyes when I saw Mohammed Farah winning the 5000m and then prostrating to thank Allah. For a few minutes I felt more British than ever. I was asking myself why. I think my emotions were mostly due to this constant need of the majority of non-white British to prove themselves and to show that they can positively contribute to British society. The tears were just a manifestation of a malaise in our society and I don’t think these moments of glory will make much difference in the long run.

  • Sumon Sen

Mohamed Farah must become “Mo” (as short for Maurice etc.) to be accepted in Britain.

    @Jack Cope, you wrote,

His background; born into one of the worlds most wartorn nations then being raised in a poor immigrant family yet still managing to break into athletics (in the UK nearly all medal winners have come from more well off backgrounds) thanks to a dedicated PE teacher at his state school, is something everyone should be proud of and should be inspiration.

I think this is one of the, if not the single most important aspect of Farah’s story. Thank you for sharing.

  • http://www.loonwatch.com Garibaldi

@Reynardine, I think you opened up a can of worms! LOL.

We can go on and on with such examples, there should be a thread specifically for it! In fact the most intriguing aspects of the long-time cross cultural exchange and presence of Arabs/Islam/Muslims are the forgotten ones.

I was re-reading some of Steinbeck’s East of Eden which brought this to mind, where he writes,

“The Americans had a greater tendency to name places for people than had the Spanish. After the valleys were settled the names of places refer more to things which happened there, and these to me are the most fascinating of all names because each name suggests a story that has been forgotten. I think of Bolsa Nueva, a new purse; Morocojo, a lame Moor (who was he and how did he get there?)…”

Im a Somali British citizen and No mo hasn’t let somalia down Quite the opposite, the majority of British Somalis and Somali immigrants i have spoken 2 all speak highly of him and we are all extremely proud, I love Somalia but i also love my adopted home Just as much England offered me and my family a safe haven during the mid 1990s when we needed it the most And i will be forever grateful so don’t get it twisted comprenda. When you Say Mo let down somalia you’ll have 2be more specific lol which one, Somalia, Puntland, or Somaliland

  • whiteashess

Mo Farrah is a traitor to his own country. I’m Somali myself. ;)

  • Reynardine

“Admiral” is a portmanteu of the Arabic “al-miral” and the Latin verb, “admirare” (to look over) and originally meant a harbormaster. Algebra, alchemy, and chemistry all have Arabic roots in etymology and fact both. Orange- the name of the color and the fruit, as well as the fruit itself- both have Arabic origins. We would not start the day with its juice and a cup of coffee without Arabic intervention. Albuquerque is named for the Andaluz word for an apricot, the mayor of many a California town was an alcalde, and we count 1, 2, 3, 4… and not I, II, III, IV, because of Arabic numerals. And can you imagine a Roman proposing a night’s naughtiness with, “Darling, let’s LXIX…”

  • doug dave

there was also another muslim in the team gb mens eights in rowing, mohamed sbihi

so this is not just an isolated incident of ethnic minorities representing their countries. it is doable but just under played by the media.

“Integration and assimilation” arguments are phony arguments and often backdoor anti-Muslim arguments.
The reality is that Islam is already “integrated” into the Western world and Muslims contribute to our communities, whether the EDL, Geert Wilders, Anders Breivik like it or not…

  • mjasghar

The EDL don’t care. Consider that they view non-white British soldiers as merely mercenaries. Also they will point out Farah wasn’t born here or that he trains in the US.
    Closed minds.

  • Sir David ( Illuminati membership number 5:32) Warning Contains Irony

His best event is the 5000m :-)
Go Mo make it a double gold!

    Mo actually said to a reporter when asked if he would rather run for Somalia;

“Look mate, this is my country. This is where I grew up, this is where I started life. This is my country and when I put on my Great Britain vest I’m proud. I’m very proud.”

He ran a fantastic race and got a well deserved hero’s welcome.

I am equally glad that certain EDL idiots will be squirming, their arguments once again shown to be a crock of crap.

MF Mohamad, yes Bolt is Christian. However, some Christians do prostrate during prayer in certain areas and the Bible reports that Isa prostrated as well. Funny how some hate us given that…

  • MF Mohamad

    (off topic)

Usain Bolt also prostrate after winning his 100m race just like Mo did. Usain is Christian right

  • mindy1

Good for him, but USA USA USA ;) :P
