Pigs’ Heads and Blood Left at French Mosque

Muslims attending morning prayers Wednesday were confronted by two pigs’ heads in the entrance to their mosque in a French town where an Islamist gunman killed two paratroopers in March.

The incident in Montauban was described as a “racist provocation” by a watchdog which monitors anti-Islamic actions in France and as an “odious and blasphemous act” by the Montauban mayor, Brigitte Bareges.

It was the first of its kind in the southern Tarn-et-Garonne region but officials refused to speculate on a possible link to the March tragedy.

The paratroopers killed in March were two of the seven victims of Mohamed Merah, who also shot dead three Jewish schoolchildren, a rabbi and another soldier in nearby Toulouse before being killed himself in a police siege of his apartment.

Hajii Mohamed, the imam at the mosque, told AFP the people who had left the pigs’ heads had also spilled a large amount of blood on the floor of the entrance to the mosque, which is located in a town house that has been converted to a place of worship.

“It is contemptible,” the imam told AFP. “To attack a religion like this, I don’t know what is happening. People lose their heads, especially during Ramadan.”
Abdallah Zekri, the chairman of France’s Islamophobia Observatory, said Wednesday’s outrage occurred against the background of an increase in anti-Muslim actions in the first half of 2012.

“For this to occur during the holy month of Ramadan, it’s unspeakable,” he said. “It is racist provocation.”

Wednesday’s incident also came hot on the heels of a controversy over the treatment of four young Muslims who were sacked for observing the Ramadan daytime fast while looking after children on a summer camp.

The town council which had dismissed the four instructors reacted to an outcry over the issue on Tuesday by announcing that it would no longer enforce a requirement for summer camp workers to eat and drink in the middle of the day.

French authorities have also been at odds with the biggest Islamic community in Europe over legislation which bans women from wearing full veils while recent elections have been marked by debate over the use of halal methods of animal slaughter.

    THe united states government and what do you mean by “some of”?

  • Franczeska

    @awek’sia: Who exactly was it that desecrated the lands of (some of) your ancestors? Was it Muslims?

  • DrM

    Breaking wind,

    You’re trying too hard. Insistence that Islam isn’t a race and therefore representations of Islam cannot be racist is a load of crap. Being Jewish used to be simply a religious identity. With the rise of capitalism, it was transmuted into a racial one. What we are seeing today is the opposite process with Islam. If we must be so asinine as to insist upon using skin color as a determinant of race, I would ask why the Muslims represented in Islamophobist filth never EVER look like Indonesian Muslims, even though it is the most populous Muslim country on the planet.
    Those who claim that Islamophobia can’t be racist, because Islam is a religion not a race, are fooling themselves. Religion is not only about faith but also about identity, background and culture, and Muslims are overwhelmingly non-white. Islamophobia is racist, and so is antisemitism. Try again, jackass.

  • awek’sia

    They already did desecrate lands of my ancestors. I’m only siding with the french hear cause I happen to be a quarter french since my great grandfather was a french canadian but the rest of me is iroqouis.

    Awek’sia

    Its not a matter of whether your Jewish or not. Its a matter of consistency, fairness and decency. What if someone desecrated something you considered sacred, in such a hate filled manner?

  • awek’sia

    I’m not a jew so where the hell did you get that idea. I would care less if it was a synagogue. dumb assess

  • Kyle

    awek’sia would probably go ballistic if it was a synagogue and start screaming about how muslims did it.
    In short, the reaction of an idiot.

  • Sir David ( Illuminati membership number 5:32) Warning Contains Irony

    ” the french ” no such animal . Some french racist prats ,yup we got them here . They even have there own party with Marine LePen as the leader .

    @Awek’sia

    Would you feel the same way, if this was done to a Synagogue?

  • awek’sia

    the french don’t want a mosque there so that’s that. atleast no one was hurt.

  • Lo

    Sick. And I’m not just talking about the hatred showed towards fellow human beings, but to animals as well. Only animals would kill other animals and leave them to rot in the sun. I believe that animals, trees, the planet, the entire universe bear witness to what we do. This pig died for nothing.

    @DrBM apparently YOUR minuscule mind has a problem with reading comprehension and spelling. I never once said that Judaism is a race nor would I as religions and ideologies are learned and practice unlike race which is genetic. Man I hope you are not really a doctor seeing how little sense you show.

    drudge is linking to this story on his site–not intending to promote him, it’s just interesting to see the amount of hate on the comments section. might take a few snapshots of the conversation. could prove useful :)

  • Sarah Brown

    Horrible. I wasn’t completely sure about the youth workers issue, but it’s easy to see why that decision was perceived to be bigoted when things like this happen.

  • Truthspeak

    This was probably done by Spencer or Geller fanboys, or fans of whoever their French equivalents are.

    It doesnt much matter whoever did this as we know lots of islamphobes sit around to play the heinous trick like this.

    muslim should take a serious action to avoid this racist in future

  • Common Sense

    @DrM

    Whoa buddy, calm down. Did you actually read his comment? What WindsOfChange said is right. Islam is not a race. But he clearly stated that the act was hateful. The act was bigoted and Islamophobic, no doubt. But in terms of precise definition, it wasn’t “racist.” Bigotry and racism grow from the same tree. Again, we’re not saying it was a good thing to do. We’re just saying the word “racist” was used incorrectly.

  • DrM

    @breaking wind said :

    “why are they calling it racist? Islam is not a race.”

    Neither is Judaism. To you, Muslims ARE a “race.” A “race” of non-white people who in your miniscule mind represent a demographic threat to the paranoid white majority.

  • http://Loonwatch windsofchange

    Despicable act. Hateful no doubt but why are they calling it racist? Islam is not a race.

  • Meryem

    This is just sad.

    @Amago

    This was probably done by Spencer or Geller fanboys, or fans of whoever their French equivalents are.

    This is wrong, why hate?? :(
