This is off topic, but I want to mention something about Harry’s Place, where you’re a contributor. I’ve been reading some of the articles you post with interest, especially since they seem to draw some visitors whose comments are often, I would say, brash and myopic.

I find this especially odd because the tag line is, “Liberty, if it means anyting, is the right to tell people what they don’t want to hear.” That sounds open minded, and there is much talk of “tolerance” at times– which is almost surreal in light of the overall flavor of the comments there. It reminds me of that famous quote from Kabir: “I laugh when I hear that the fish in the water is thirsty.”

Here’s an example of what I mean:

“It was not without good reason that murdered film maker Theo Van Gogh and Ayaan Hirsi Ali called the doc exploring the treatment of women under Islam, “Submission”. Adherents must submit, with women being relegated to subservance to men as well as the diety and the diety’s prophet.”

What a complete misunderstanding of the concept of submission, which is not even unique to Islam! I see this as a trend there, as if many of the visitors suffer from psychological cataracts, to borrow a phrase from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and this is just one example among many.

I’ve thought of joining the discussion just to challenge them with a different view, but I would have to be in the mood to be pounced on–I picture myself a lamb among wolves in that context.

Anyway, obviously, this is off topic for this article and probably for Loonwatch all together, since any further discussion would delve into topics that probably are beyond our scope.
