UPDATE: Arrest Made in Rhode Island Mosque Vandalism

Posted on 21 August 2012 by Emperor

Arrest made in Rhode Island mosque vandalism

North Smithfield police have arrested and charged a Cumberland man in connection with a case of vandalism at a local mosque.

Robert Scalso, 20, of Mendon Rd. is facing a misdemeanor charge of vandalism, police confirmed Monday morning.

Police said Scalso destroyed the sign outside Masjiad Al-Islam mosque on Sayles Hill Rd. earlier this month.

The crime was caught on surveillance camera Aug. 5 around 3 a.m. A person could be seen driving into the mosque’s parking lot and then smashing the sign with what appeared to be a hammer.

The crime happened the same day as a shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin, prompting mosque members to ask police and the FBI for additional protection.

They said they were concerned the vandalism might be part of a larger pattern against Muslims, or people perceived as Muslim.

North Smithfield police said the investigating is ongoing. Investigators have not released details on a possible motive.

Qur’an 4:91 “You will find others who, while wishing to live in peace and being safe from you to gain the confidence of their people; thrown back to mischief headlong; therefore if they do not withdraw from you, and offer you peace besides restraining their hands, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them; and against these We have given you a clear sanction and authority.”

It should be common sense to anyone that any military force is going to kill enemies fighting against them in a battle ‘wherever they find them’. This shouldn’t even need to be explained to you. What do you think a military does on a battlefield anyway?

    marco…

First, I am a Muslim woman. I HOPE you do not think that I am commenting on the 11 year old girl as a ‘distract from a hate crime’. My personal opinion is, this article is about a man arrested for damaging a sign. To me…so what, make another one and make the offender pay for it.

I DO think that the child is much more important than a sign, no matter why the idiot who broke it did so.

I certianly hope that you were not directing your comments to those who would rather discuss a child being mistreated, than a sign being damaged. Ignoring the child for such a trivial matter is hate to me.

nice response Ilisha … put the loons in their place!

    “Like to comment?”

Sure. You’re not the first to make this cut-and-paste challenge. From Loonwatcher Chameleon:

“…Without even reading the first two quotes (4:89 and 4:91), it is obvious what you are trying to hide here: verse 4:90 between the two. It states, “Except those who take refuge with a people allied to you, or those who, weary of fighting you or their people, come over to you. If God had so willed He would surely have given them power over you, and they would have fought you. If they keep aloof and do not fight, and offer peace, God has left you no reason to fight them.” In other words, fight those who fight you, and desist when they stop, which is a universally ethical standard of warfare, not a war for “power and personal glory.” Moreover, such an absurd claim is utterly ignorant of the fact that verses 4:89-91 address the fighting of combative Muslim hypocrites within the existing Muslim community, not the fighting of non-Muslims targeted for conquest.

You also omitted just about the entirety of verse 4:91 — including the precondition of self-defense in the same sentence as that phrase — and merely quoted that one phrase totally devoid of context. Here is the entire verse: “You will find persons who, while wishing to live in peace with you as well as with their own people, turn to civil war the moment they are called to it. If they do not keep away from you, nor offer you peace nor restrain their hands, seize them and kill them wherever they are. We have given you a clear sanction against them.” Again, fight those who insist on fighting you is the message, which is a universally valid justification for war….”

xithurel No, not silence. Google “retarded texas man executed”. Of course, what you find will go against your bias and stereotyping, so beware.

  • marco

The loons always want to distract from their own hate crimes by bringing up issues happenning else where.r They are massive hypocrites. They don’t do the same themselves, but then act like they are being victimised for ‘speaking the truth’

That 11 year old girl is unfortunate. She’s a victim of abuse of a law that has been abused by ignorant people over and over again, mostly against other muslims.

When you’ve got a corrupt government and incompetent law enforcement of laws – they will be abused. Case in point, look at whats happenning in America. Low level crimes are punished, high level stuff from Wall St banks are never prosectued at all.

I’d like to see the day when Pam Geller or her lap dog Spencer, will condemn acttacks by settler thugs against Palestinians on a daily basis

  • Xithurel

Yeah, and Texas just executed a man with an IQ of bellow 60 – he was declared mentally retarded – but still was executed regardless. Even though the SUPREME COUNT DECLARED IT TO BE UNCONSTITUTIONAL – Texas killed the man.

Where are all the bleeding hearts for that man…and just about every single retarded person who gets executed in Texas….siiiiiiilence.

    Hypocrisy STINKS to high heaven.

    mindy…

Thank you for offering to help. There are many like you who simply do not know what to do…and unfortunatly I dont know what to do either except to tell everyone you know, and if we all, who are upset by this (and other stories like it) share it with others, I am sure it will get to someone who will know what to do.

My suggesstion is rather than make this story about ‘Christian vs Muslim, we focus on the plight of the oppressed girl, and you as a human being express yourself in how you personally feel about this situation, and share it with your friends. Ask them to do the same, and we will ‘dilute the propaganda’ with the truth of the matter.

  • khushboo

what’s with all the off topic comments?!

    Good job Emp!

  • mindy1

Is there anything someone can do to help that girl?? I’m no islamophobe, but that is wrong :’(

  • Sarah Brown

@Meryem – I think it’s an awful law, full stop.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/mehdi-hasan/not-in-my-name-islam-pakistan-and-blasphemy-laws_b_1815522.html?utm_hp_ref=uk

“Some defenders of Pakistan’s notorious blasphemy laws – under which anyone found guilty of insulting the Quran or Prophet Muhammad can be sentenced to death – have been keen to highlight the growing number of press reports that suggest Masih may be 16, rather than 11, and may not have Down’s Syndrome.

To which the only appropriate response is: so what?”

  • NurAlia

Thank you all who have brought up the story of the 11 ywar old, mentally challenged girl in PAKISTAN who has been ‘arrested’ on charges of blasphamy.

The Chinese news service Xinhua also reported on the story. In matters of ‘religion’ I tend to lean more to beliving this report because they are not part of the ‘propaganda war’ against Islam.

The story is, that no one actually saw the accused girl (11 year old Rimsha Masih) set the ‘book’ alight, except, according to police, another child witnessed it and ‘ran to report it to the masjid). When the police came to the home of the girl, a mob of more than 100 people were demanding that the parents turn over the child to them. The police ‘arrested’ her more for her protection than anything else.

The police also reported, that the ‘ashes recovered are much less than that expected from a Qur’an’ and the also wondered how she would have gotten a Qur’an (being from a Christian household) and why would her first thought be to burn it (if she did)

However, in ths very volitle neighbourhood, the Christians were immediatly denied services, and water. Electric lines were cut into thier homes, and those who rented homes from Muslim landlords were told to move out. Shopkeepers would not sell to, or threatened by other Muslims if they did the Chiristians, and all but 10 percent of Christians in this neighbourhood have left thier homes.

My personal opinion, reading a story I belive more is…that the young lady was ‘set up’, either by someone who used her disability to intice her to burn ‘a book’, or used her disability to defend herself to accuse her of something she is innocent of, as an excuse to cleanse the neighbourhood of the Christians.

I think that the MUSLIMS in this neigbourhood are the lowest of human beings…and we MUSLIMS must admit it.

We should do all we can…without making it political or RELIGIOUS to help this child, and to protect her, and all people like her in all situations.

I have to tell you people, that this…because MUSLIMS are the offenders, makes me angrier than a thousand Pam Gellers…because we know better.

  • Meryem

    @Hatice,
Oh my gosh that is really sad. Poor girl has Down Syndrome and because of that she is not culpable of her actions. Have these people not heard of Not Guilty by reason of mental disease or defect? Have some compassion and mercy people. I am Muslim and I will make dua that they drop the charges against the poor child.

  • Garibaldi

@Hatice, thank you for the two tips. The name of the young girl is not Asia Bibi, that is actually another lady facing blasphemy charges, the girl’s name is Rimsha Masih.

  • Hatice

Please bring attention to Asia Bibi, who has Down’s Syndrome, facing blasphemy charges, to be hanged.

Ok, stop and listen; there is a Christian girl in Iraq that is facing blasphemy charges and you guys are not in the case. You must make an article now!
