Eight examples of the ‘uncivilized savages’ Pamela Geller is talking about

Who are some of the “savages” Pamela Geller is talking about? Some are future scientists, inventors, ground breaking engineers and so many more.:

by Sami Kishawi (Six Minutes to Palestine)

A virulently Islamophobic advertisement campaign referring to Muslims as “savage” went live this week in ten New York City subway stations. The advertisements, created and funded by Pamela Geller’s American Freedom Defense Initiative, read, “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad.”

These are the ‘uncivilized savages’ Geller is talking about.

1. Amr the “Spider Man”

When YouTube launched a competition calling on students from around the world to develop experiments to be tested in outer space, an 18-year-old from Alexandria, Egypt, submitted a project — and won. Amr Mohamed’s experiment: to investigate how zebra spiders, which normally jump on their prey, will adapt to zero gravity. His project was among the two chosen to be carried out live by astronauts aboard the International Space Station.

Amr’s motivation stems from his fascination with science, he says, and the fact that his country hasn’t contributed much to space exploration — something he hopes to change.

Amr, by the way, is Muslim. And he’s a future scientist. Savage, right? Instead of fumbling for an answer, watch Mission Control confirm the results of his experiment.

2. Human shields for Christmas

When Egypt’s majority Muslim population promised to protect the country’s threatened Christian community, that’s exactly what it did. Thousands of Muslims gathered last year to form human barriers around churches offering Coptic Christmas eve mass services all throughout the country just days after an extremist attack left 21 dead in a church in Alexandria.

We either live together, or die together,” chanted the crowds of Muslims. Some held candlelight vigils while others cheered their Christian compatriots on as they walked through the droves and into their churches.

Two weeks later, millions of Egyptians took to the streets in nonviolent protest against the Mubarak regime. Pshaw, how silly. A civilized people would know better than to mobilize for equal rights and economic reform. Watch Egypt’s Coptic Christians return the favor as regime-loyalists and rioting thugs pelt rocks at praying Muslims. (The men shouting in the end are repeating, “They’re praying! They’re praying!” not “Jihad! Jihad!” as Pamela & Co. would like you to believe.)

3. Mohammad’s very first response on 9/11

When the Twin Towers collapsed on that fateful day, Mohammad Salman Hamdani rushed to the scene and joined the team of first responders pulling people out of the rubble. He was a 23-year old Pakistani student researcher and an NYPD cadet. He never returned home.

Mohammad wasn’t the only Muslim first responder. Dr. Rudina Odeh-Ramadan, a clinical pharmacist at the prestigious Columbia University, made it to the scene as fast as she could. She found herself buried under the rubble twice as she pulled out bodies and treated fatigued firefighters. But she was booed (in a civilized manner, so it’s cool) when she revealed her Muslim identity at a community meeting in Lower Manhattan. And when the September 11th Memorial was revealed. Mohammad’s family couldn’t find Hamdani’s name where it should’ve been: among the first responders. Although Congress declared him a hero, he was listed in a far-off panel of individuals loosely connected to the day’s events. In fact, he had even been suspected of playing a role in the attacks.

He had dreams of becoming a doctor. His mother calls him “a prime example of what it is to be a human being. He went there to save humanity.”

Mohammad’s remains were found in the wreckage of the north tower in 34 separate pieces. There is no footage of him. So instead, watch these savage tears of uncivility build up in Representative Keith Ellison’s eyes as he salutes Mohammad’s ultimate sacrifice.

4. Refugees inventing for the blind

In 2010, three 14-year-old Muslim girls from a refugee camp in Palestine invented a revolutionary cane that earned them a place (and an award) at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in San Jose, California, a premier competition that features the top science projects from a field of over 6 million experiments.

It took Noor Al-Arada, Aseel Abul Lail, and Aseel Al-Shaar six months to develop their cane. “Stick-tech,” they called it, uses infrared signals to identify obstacles that trigger noises and vibrations to alert blind people. The American Federation of the Blind was stunned by the invention’s capacity to resolve fundamental design errors that cane manufacturers had been struggling with since the 1970s.

The three girls wasted many days crossing Israel’s civilized checkpoints to reach Ramallah for basic supplies that weren’t available in their refugee camp. Thank God they didn’t do a jihad and expect, oh I don’t know, an end to foreign military occupation. Watch them rise above the odds.

5. Interrupting the whispers of street crime

With gun violence on the rise in Chicago, Ameena Matthews’ work is more important than ever before. She’s an “interrupter“, working the streets with local anti-violence organizations to put an end to the rampant crime that plagues many of the city’s most disadvantaged neighborhoods. It’s an innovative (and very risky) strategy that involves, quite literally, knowing how to coax a teen out of shooting his way into prison.

There is just too much to be said about Ameena, who went through her own phase of gang activity up until her twenties when she chose not to wage war on her shooters. Guided by her Muslim principles, she has six children and finds strength with her husband, an Imam at a mosque on 75th. Her work was featured in a documentary film that swept the international movie scene and the Chicago Tribune named her Chicagoan of the Year in Film.

She’s braved countless near-death experiences interrupting the whispers that could lead to a case. If everyone were as uncivil and as savage as Geller thinks she is, the world would undoubtedly be a better place to live in. Watch Ameena tell it how it is.

6. The Einstein of Structural Engineering

Skyscrapers are designed to withstand seismic activity and powerful winds but it wasn’t until the early 1960s that a structural system was designed to keep buildings from falling over without caking them in layers of concrete. The tubular design, as it was later called, was the brainchild of Fazlur Rahman Khan, a Muslim from Bangladesh who used his Fulbright Scholarship money to study in the United States. In just three years, he had earned two Master’s degrees and a Ph.D. — a feat so great that it reeks of uncivilized savagery, okay?

What really draws attention to Fazlur is his innovation. Most high-rises built since the 1960s employ some variant of his concept, including the famed Petronas Towers in Malaysia, the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong, and even the World Trade Center towers. He personally designed the Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower) and the John Hancock Center, two of the tallest buildings in the United States.

Imagine how awkward it would be to catch a member of the American Freedom Defense Initiative working in any of the tall buildings built in the last fifty years that bear a Muslim’s structural brilliance. And watch this preview of a video that airs in the Willis Tower’s Skydeck that credits Fazlur’s contributions and, by default, literally falls under Geller’s definition of creeping shariah.

didn’t my fellow Americans cheer on as Iranian men, women and children died on the Iranian Air Flight 655, because of an ” accident” confusing a Large civilian plane for a fighter jet

Having watched some of her videos,I find her to be a very paranoid woman.

I absolutely like neither islam, nor christianity. Read history, they are both equally distasteful. Both islam and christianity has justified almost all kinds of dredful things one can ever imagine.

But:she talks about stopping sharia. The only way to do that is champion secularism. Now hows that going to work, when you support the likes of Palin? Im european, so with all the muslim immigration, I think islamic extremism is something for me to be concerned about.

But if I where american Id be more worried about the evangelicals.

    • Christian-friend

@Daria, have you meet a Muslim before? I bet you’ll say that no, because they are going to deceive you.

I agree, there are a lot of Muslims fanatics and they should be stop at all cost. They need to stop their attacks and embrace change.

But what I disagree is labeling all Muslims as savages and backwards. Why? I have meet many of them and what they want is want you want: normal lifes.

just remind me, guys – did’nt people in Arab World celebrate 9/11 attack? never? idiotic exceptions, you said?

    • Kimberly

Ever since the W. years fear has been used to manipulate the American people and the right wing Tea Party fanatics took that fear and ran with it. I find it incredibly hypocritical that these God fearing Christians who want Jesus in the White House are the most intolerant, mean spirited people on the planet. The only thing they are good at is striking that fear core in Americans and unfortunately, they are good at it. Stop spreading hate and cruelty in the name of Jesus or anyone for that matter, just please stop.

      @Arab Atheist

Talking about savages; Since when is vocal ‘Jihad’ ‘Geller’ worse the physical Jihad (Islam)?

    • Arab Atheist

The “savage” stereotype is not limited to Geller. It’s part of the whole right-wing mindset. Romney thinks Palestenians are suffering because they are culturally retarded. What he doesn’t know is that Palestinians are one of the most successfull displaced/monority groups in the middle east (and many Western countries as well). Almost every year including 2012, it is always Palestenian expats/refugees who rank top of their schools in neighbooring Arab countries. Gulf countries would rather hire a Palestinian than a local. Palestinians are stereotyped as educated businessmen in the Arab world. This is not a matter of racial superiority, of course, but these people were able to make the best out of their misfortune.

    • @Emperor

Think how many of these smart, brave and noble people are having to suffer the consequences of being stereotyped as blood thirsty Savages by people like Geller and her ilk. It just goes to show how absurd any form of bigotry is, including bigotry against Muslims.

Sheila Musaji: Robert Spencer Discovers Halloween Jihad

Let the loony Islamophobic conspiracies about a war on Halloween begin. (h/t: CriticalDragon)

Robert Spencer discovers Halloween Jihad

by Sheila Musaji

Robert Spencer finds it noteworthy enough to note on Jihad Watch that Seattle elementary school bans Halloween costumes: they could offend students from “other cultures”.

He engages in his typical snarky innuendo:

Gee, I wonder which culture would have students in the Seattle elementary schools who would be offended by Halloween costumes. Still, there is no indication that any Islamic supremacist group demanded this ban; the school officials are just playing the dhimmi on their own initiative. Please write them, politely and respectfully, and ask them why American culture always takes a back seat to others, and why they’re pandering to an imaginary offense.

And, of course, his partner Pamela Geller also posted an article on this non-story, sayingDismantling America, piece by cultural piece, law by American law …… the parents ought to protest en masse – in costume.

The article Spencer and Geller refer to says only that a Seattle school has banned students from dressing up in costume for Halloween this year at school.  One district representative said that costumes “could offend and upset students who come from other cultures”.  The principal of the school said that “This decision was made by the entire staff after two deep and detailed discussions. The initial conversation was initiated by staff members who suggested that since Halloween falls this year on a half day of school, we not allow costumes. It takes students a while to change into their costumes, and students are distracted taking away from the already limited instructional time.

That’s it, the whole story that is known from this.  We don’t know whether or not any parent made any request or complaint to the district or to the school.  We don’t know what is the demographic of the community where this school is located.  Blaming this decision on some sort of Muslim plot, or a self-imposed fear of a possible Muslim reaction, to take away an American holiday is absolute nonsense.

To jump to the conclusion that Spencer does from this very limited information is a clear sign of his deeply held Islamophobia.  We know that Spencer is blaming Muslims for this school decision because he says the school officials are “playing dhimmi” on their own initiative.  Is it only some Muslims who don’t celebrate Halloween?

Here is a quote from one such “dhimmi” who refuses to participate in American culture:

“I think we ought to close Halloween down. Do you want your children to dress up as witches? The Druids used to dress up like this when they were doing human sacrifice…[The children] are acting out Satanic rituals and participating in it, and don’t even realize it.”Pat Robertson, “The 700 Club,” 1982-OCT-29

Robertson is not exactly known for his fondness for Islam or Muslims.  I wonder is Spencer will ask his followers to write letters to The 700 Club to complain about Robertson’s attempts to “dismantle America”.

If any parents did say something to the school or district administration, they might have been parents from just about any religious or cultural background.

Yes, there are some Muslims who are opposed to celebrating Halloween, for a variety of reasons.  The reasons given are pretty much identical with the reasons that many Christians and Jews are opposed to celebrating the holiday.  There is a wide range of opinion within all of these communities about the holiday, what it means, and why it should not be celebrated, or can be celebrated as simply a cultural event.

If Christians actually tried to make to replace all laws of America with laws of the bible and succeed and do to non Christians what Saudi Arabia does on non Muslims and Bhutan does on non Buddhists, people like Robert Spencer not care, instead I bet they will only care if Muslims (and only Muslims) even think of making America like Saudi Arabia, in fact if he had a kindly practicing Muslim neighbor (who is a America loving Republican and puts a flag on his lawn) with a wife who doesn’t work and wears a hijab willingly, a pre teen daughter who also wears a hijab willingly and follows her dad’s rules (including religious ones) and a teenage son who in a band and plays loudly and continuously and another neighbor who is not Muslim and he beats his wife, wants American to be a Christian country and on top of that is a proud Nazi who loves Hitler and want America to be like South Africa before 1994, which do you think he will be more uncomfortable with? That depends which neighbor is Muslim?

    • Aasim

I bet if Robert Spencer found out about a school who bans Halloween costumes on behalf of Christians and Mexicans or non Muslims and non Middle Easterners then he will not say a single thing unless it also involves Muslims or people who come from a mainly Muslim ethnic group then he will try to single them out as the sole culprit.

Pamela Geller Stokes anti-Muslim Hatred

I agree with this point by Nick Lowles and have observed it myself,

We are entering a very dangerous period where ‘Counter-Jihadists’ and Islamist extremists are feeding off each other’s extremism to justify their own activities. I’ll be writing more about this shortly.

Though in all fairness this has been going on for quite some time now, though it seems to be escalating.

Geller stokes anti-Muslim hatred

by Nick Lowles (HopeNotHate)

US ‘Counter-Jihad’ activist Pam Geller is stoking anti-Muslim hatred by producing a poster for the New York subway which declares Muslims as ‘savages’.

The advert, which will go up in ten subway stations next week to coincide with the opening of the UN General Assembly, reads:

“In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad.”

The New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) initially refused the posters but have been forced to by a court order.

Geller told Sky News: “I will not abridge my freedoms so as not to offend savages.

“I won’t take responsibility for other people being violent.

“I live in America and in America we have the first amendment.”

These posters are obviously designed to stoke up hatred against Muslims and coming so shortly after the Innocence of Muslims film, again produced by Counter-Jihadists, will create a reaction from Muslims and give ammunition to Islamist extremists.

We are entering a very dangerous period where ‘Counter-Jihadists’ and Islamist extremists are feeding off each other’s extremism to justify their own activities. I’ll be writing more about this shortly.

What we are seeing is that Jewish money is now being used to promote hatred of Muslims. This is why they finance groups like the EDL in the UK and several anti-Islam films. While Jews do not allow non-Jewish immigration into Israel, or even allow non-Jews there to marry Jews, they promote third world immigration into all western countries:

[Snipped: Links to hate sites are not allowed. Ilisha]

If multiculturalism is going to ease tensions between races, why is it promoted everywhere except Israel.

In fact, the Zionists are setting us up for another war to benefit Israel and their pockets.

    • “What is wrong with these people? Stop selling oil to enemy states”… “And bankrupt themselves?”

There are plenty of customers for the most vital product/s of industrial civilization e.g. China. Furthermore, energy is just one aspect, the other includes chemical industry precursors.

Not only that, the Global Village IS symbiotically inter-dependent.

The Muslim nations sit astride one of the most important strategic regions on the planet i.e. betwixt 3 continents. They have vast amounts of the most important natural resources for industrial civilization. Just one example is Europe’s need for energy in the form of solar energy from North Africa (DESERTEC).http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=can-north-africa-light-europe-solar-power

China & India are scrambling to grab resources e.g. Africa. The North Atlantic treaty Organization is morphing into the North’s Anywhere Treaty Organization. AFRICOM is being peddled.

PNAC is in full flow. The existentialist rhetoric of dead-ender Zionism is dragging in the Abrahamic cultures into one big catfight in a M.A.D. scenario. I do not think that a militantly secular world government backed by its own armies is the solution to a diverse world, just a panacea.

“Freedom” > not that simplistic, both nations have differing RELATIVE (not ABSOLUTE) Freedoms.

      Garibaldi,

Another excellent new article from Nick Lowles at Hope Not Hate:

Muslims rise up against Islamist extremes but ‘Counter-Jihads’ remain silent

posted by: Nick Lowles | on: Saturday, 22 September 2012, 09:15

While the anti-Muslim haters of the self-defined ‘Counter-Jihad’ movement whip up fear and hatred against all Muslims, over in Libya there is a real, grassroots ‘Counter-Jihad’ operation going on. Tens of thousands of people have protested against Ansar al-Sharia and other Islamist groups, who people believe were responsible for the assault on the US consulate and the deaths of four Americans, including the US Ambassador.

Militia compounds have been taken over and the headquarters of Ansar al-Sharia has been set alight.

While the assault on the US consulate might have been the spark, this popular uprising reflects a more general unhappiness with the activities of the Islamist militias since the overthrow of Col Muammar Gaddafi.

So you would imagine that the self-defined ‘Counter-Jihadists’ would have been cheering on this popular anti-Islamist uprising. But no, they were too busy spreading their general anti-Muslim hatred.

Pamela Geller’s Atlas Shrugs website focuses on her anger that CNN cut short an interview about her new poster campaign on the New York subway, in which she describes Muslims as “savages”.

Robert Spencer’s Jihad Watch reports on US collusion with the Muslim Brotherhood, whilst the English Defence League website simply tells the “Muslim world” that they “should get used to being offended.” Over at Gates of Vienna, probably the most important international ‘Counter-Jihad’ blogsite, they carry a clip from SUN TV where “Michael Coren talks about the House of Civilization versus the House of Islam.”

In fact, I’ve just spent the last 30 minutes going through as many of the so-called Counter-Jihadist websites that I can and I cannot find a single mention of the popular protest in Benghazi. But then again they wouldn’t report it as it does not find into their general mindset that all Muslims are the problem.

“What is wrong with these people? Stop selling oil to enemy states”

      And bankrupt themselves?

In what way are they enemy states? I know that the freedoms available in the US are anathema in saudi arabia and I find it very disturbing to see UK politicians pretending to respect the saudi state but the oil producers and the oil providers need each other. It’s a symbiotic relationship, while oil keeps flowing the west turns a blind eye to the human rights abuses endemic in the oil producing states. It won’t last though. Saudi internal oil consumption is predicted to outstrip saudi oil production in the next couple of decades.

    • Rights

Those who use the First Amendment or any other part of the US Constitution to advance nefarious purpose neither understand nor respect that amendment, or, for that matter, the Constitution. Such people are mischief makers at heart. I think Pamela Geller is such a person. While she may not want to abridge her freedoms – and no one should want her to – I doubt that the freedom she envisions and the manner in which she exercises it are the same that the Amendment meant. Technicalities of jurisprudence and polemics aside, common sense says the free speech the First Amendment meant is not the kind that slaughters the very souls of millions of fellow citizens. Speech that inflicts extreme pain and terrorizes the minds of millions of people leaves the realm of speech meant by the First Amendment. It becomes hate-speech, pure and simple. Geller’s speech is of the soul-slaughtering sort. It is hate-speech. It is an insult to the very amendment she uses to shield it.

    • FYI

The ‘Pro-Israel’ Network Behind the Innocence Video by Justin Raimondo, September 19, 2012 http://original.antiwar.com/justin/2012/09/18/the-pro-israel-network-behind-the-innocence-video/ he central figure in all this is reported to be one Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, a 56-year-old Egyptian immigrant: although Nakoula presented himself in an interview with the Associated Press as “Sam Bacile,” a 56-year-old “Israeli-American” real estate developer, he is a Coptic Christian, a member of a persecuted minority in Egypt — and a convicted felon. Media reports portray him as the central figure in the making of Innocence: he denies this, and describes his job as arranging “logistics” for the film. Nakoula’s role seems to have been that of a facilitator — gofer — rather than “creative director,” and in any case he hardly seems the type to have originated the idea for the movie. Having been released from jail — where he was serving a sentence for bank fraud — barely a month before filming started, Nakoula was hardly in a position to undertake such a project. Chances are he was recruited by someone else, the real originator and driving force behind Innocence— but who is that someone?

Public records show a filming permit was taken out by “Media for Christ,” an outfit run by one Joseph Nasrallah Abdelmasih. His group sponsors Christian programming in Arabic, including “The Way,” a production that has featured such prominent Islamophobes as Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer. The Geller-Spencer collaboration goes back to the protests against the New York City “Ground Zero” mosque in which the duo achieved national notoriety: Nasrallah was one of the speakers at their rally. The idea for just such a movie as Innocence showed up on Geller’s blog in February, in a post entitled “A Movie About Muhammad: An Idea Whose Time Has Come.” Ali Sina, an ex-Muslim and board member of Geller and Spencer’s “Stop the Islamization of Nations,” exhorted Geller’s readers to support his movie project:

The always-excellent historian William Dalrymple eloquently made exactly the same point in his brilliant book The Last Mughal. Dalrymple also provided a slightly modified version of the relevant quote at the end of this Guardian article: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2007/may/10/comment.india

“In a curious but very concrete way, the fundamentalists of all three Abrahamic faiths have always needed each other to reinforce each other’s prejudices and hatreds. The venom of one provides the lifeblood of the others.”

I am sorry, too, that she (and a disproportionate number of Islamophobes) are members of my tribe. Most are die-hard Zionists who reject multiculturalism and seem to also hate Blacks, Hispanics, and gays too.

Pamela Geller Spreads Loon Hoax: “Nigerian Muslims Crucify Cat Over Muhammad Film”

Pamela Geller, premiere anti-Muslim loon hoax perpetrator loves creating fictional stories and passing them off as real news. She has a particular penchant for fabricating stories about Nigerian Muslims, in her racist eyes all Africans look the same.

Recall her attempt to frame the Congo gas tanker explosion over a year ago in which hundreds of Congolese were incinerated as an instance of Nigerian Muslim on Christian violence. Anything goes for Geller if it dehumanizes Muslims, the more so to incite her followers towards her Ayn Rand inspired view of Muslims as “savages.”

In her recent lie against Nigerian Muslims she claims they crucified a cat in protest of the anti-Muslim movie, “Innocence of Muslims,” (h/t: Robert4 & Paul)

Nigerian Muslims Crucify A Cat on the Cross to Protest Freedom of Speech

September, 17, 2012

An anti-freedom, anti-life, culture produces little else other than new and different ways to kill, murder torture, destroy. That is their contribution to humanity — anti-humanity.

“Muslim Youths In Nigeria Crucify A Cat On The Cross To Protest Anti-Islam Film” Nigeria News

Geller is frolicking in hate land again, her post has been picked up in the Islamophobia echo chamber, with JihadWatchIsrael ForumExposing Liberal Lies and thousands of others reproducing her blogpost. The above picture originated in Ghana not Nigeria, and surfaced nearly a year ago, reported by Ghanaweb.com in the article “Society for animal protection decries crucifixion of cat” and on the Cat Defender blog,

October 22, 2011

There are numerous reasons to be thankful to the Internet but the use of it as a forum in order for cat-haters to showcase the end products of their unspeakable cruelty and moral depravity is not one of them. The recent posting on Facebook of a photograph of a bound, black and white cat that was crucified by Ghanaian youths is a good case in point. (See photo above.)

Whereas the fate of big cats, elephants, primates, and other endangered and abused animals justifiably garners widespread attention from conservationists around the world, little attention is paid as to how companion and farm animals are treated on the “Dark Continent.” It therefore is difficult to gauge from afar whether the shocking manner in which this particular cat was abused is indicative of how most cats in Ghana are treated or whether this is merely as isolated case of moral degenerates seeking worldwide acclaim.

The photograph was posted online by someone who calls himself Kwabina Daniels, a.k.a. Popkon Sika-one. He possibly could be one of the youths shown in the photo but even that has been called into question by the Ghana Society for the Protection and Care of Animals’ (GSPCA) plea for the public’s assistance in identifying those pictured.

“To Facebookers and friends of the supposed perpetrator of this cruel act, it was fun and perhaps the most award-winning picture,” David Nyoagbe and Amasaba Adul-Yakeen Aluizah of the GSPCA said in a joint statement released to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on October 5th. (See “Society for Animal Protection Decries Crucifixion of a Cat.”) “It took friends of animals all over the world who begun (sic) criticizing this dastardly act for the picture on (the) Facebook page to be taken off.”

To its credit, the GSPCA promptly condemned the killing and even went so far as to add that cats should be fed regularly, provided with veterinary care and sufficient space in which to exercise, and not be subjected to either threats or molestation. Beyond that, however, its position is a good deal more ambiguous.

The GSPCA concluded by accusing the youths of insulting Christianity. “If this is not blasphemy, then what is?” it plaintively asked in the GNA article cited supra.

For whatever it is worth, the CIA World Factbook claims that nearly sixty-eight per cent of Ghanaians profess to the Christians as opposed to only sixteen per cent who claim to be Muslims.

There is no evidence that these youth who crucified the cat were Muslims. Considering that Ghana is a predominantly Christian nation, a more reasonable assumption would be that the perpetrators of this crime were Christians–such an assumption based on no evidence would, however, still be wrong.

It’s beyond disgraceful that Geller would use such a crime to dehumanize Muslims–it’s despicable. Such actions are par for the course with the anti-Muslim movement that seeks above everything to obsessively subjugate Muslims and crush/erase their religion from the face of the earth.

Update:

I’ve also been alerted to Sheila Musaji’s piece which is well worth reading: Geller & Spencer Create “Muslim Cat Crucifixion” Lie to Inflame Hatred.

UPDATE II:

A Danish website by the name of Tosseanstalten has more on the origins of the story. According to their research the picture does not emerge from Ghana but Angola. Read the translated article: Loony Bin in Severe Pickle.

      You wrote:

      RESPONSE:

The concepts of Darul-Harb (House of War) and Darul-Islam (House of Islam) does NOT apply today.

The notions of “houses” or “divisions” of the world in Islam such as Dar al-Islam and Dar al-Harb does not appear in the Qur’an or the Hadith. Early islamic jurists devised these terms to describe the legal rulings for the islamic expansion. The very first use of the terms was in Iraq where Abu Hanifa and his disciples Abu Yusuf and Al-Shaybani. On the other side in the levant Al-Awza’i was leading in this discipline and later Shafi’i. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divisions_of_the_world_in_Islam

That was DURING the Expansionist era, the Crusader Christians were doing the SAME THING. The “notions” DO NOT apply today because Islam has expanded, the Muslims CANNOT expand any-longer but ONLY fight back (Self-Defense). IT is American Christians who’re EXPANDING their Empire today, not Muslims:

By looking at America’s many wars throughout history, it becomes apparent that it is not radical Islam that propels the country to war. Rather, it is America’s trajectory of war and conquest, which has always been in the direction of expanding hegemony. In the start, the country expanded by occupying American Indian lands, portraying its indigenous population as inherently violent and warlike. In 1823, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall wrote: “The tribes of Indians inhabiting this country were fierce savages, whose occupation was war…” [2]

The American Indians were thought to be an existential threat to the United States (a classic case of projection or role inversion): John Quincy Adams, for example, wrote that “the savage Indians” were out to “wage an exterminating war” against the “peaceful inhabitants” of the United States [3]. It was the same message then as it is now: we must attack them before they attack us. https://www.loonwatch.com/2011/12/we-re-at-war-and-we-have-been-since-1776/

Westerners have dehumanized the Natives as they dehumanized the Iraqis:

The fascist lunatic Hugh Fitzgerald on hideous Iraq, its largely hideous people and enjoying the spectacle of civil war:

“En passant par l’Irak…and then leaving at long last, and while removing all the planes, all the helicopters, all the Humvees, all the Bradley fighting vehicles, all the trucks, all the tanks, all the everything — now remember, boys, don’t leave any war materiel behind, including computers, including absolutely everything, god knows American taxpayers have spent or committed nearly $500 billion to hideous Iraq and its largely HIDEOUS people, and nothing should be left behind. http://spencerwatch.com/who-is-hugh-fitzgerald/

Anyone who calls others HIDEOUS is the MOST hideous, that APPLIES to you (Hugh Fitzgerald). History is repeating Itself; the act of dehumanization is happening again. By the SAME people now playing VICTIM are demonizing a NEW people (Iraq), they don’t consider them Humans!

The Christian Right-Wing warmongers and Dominists are the THREAT to Humanity. Zionism is the THREAT to Humanity:

      PART TWO:

      Here’s a commonly Misunderstood passage: |

O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust. (Q. 5:51)

      Here is the explanation TROLL:

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4D9aB21DwM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnQvbnni_fg

      The Prophet Muhammad said:

It is narrated on the authority of Ibn Abu Laila that while Qais b. Sa’d and Sahl b. Hunaif were both in Qadislyya a bier passed by them and they both stood up. They were told that it was the bier of one of the people of the land (non-Muslim). They said that a bier passed before the Holy Prophet (may peace be upon him) and he stood up. He was told that he (the dead man) was a Jew. Upon this he remarked: Was he not a human being or did he not have a soul? And in the hadith narrated by ‘Amr b. Murra with the same chain of transmitters, (the words) are:” There passed a bier before us.” (Muslim)

Again Abu Zubair heard Jabir say that the Holy Prophet (may peace be upon him) and his Companions kept standing for a bier of a Jew until it disappeared from sight. (Muslim)

The Quran doesn’t say to MURDER the Jews, it commands Muslims to fight ANYONE (pagans, Jews, or Christians) in Self-Defense (2:190-3, 4:75, 8:61, 22:39, 60:8)

      Here’s one misunderstood Hadith:

“The Day of Judgment will not come about until Muslims fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Muslims, O Abdullah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him. Only the Gharkad tree, (a certain kind of tree) would not do that because it is one of the trees of the Jews.” (Sahih Muslim, 41-6985)

This is a very misunderstood Hadith! IT is a PROPHECY about Judgment Day when Muslims shall fight the Anti-Christ’ ARMY comprising of 70,000 Persian Jews according to the Hadith:

“Dajjal will be followed by 70,000 Jews from Isfahan, they will wear (robes) al-Tayalisah (Persian shawls – (today’s Shia)) which are seamless.” [refer Saheeh Muslim]

So the Hadith is about PERSIAN JEWS fighting for Dajjal (the Anti-Christ) on Judgment Day (or near). That Hadith doesn’t extend to ALL JEWS, only the 70,000 Persian Jews who shall fight FOR the Anti-Christ (Dajjal)!

That Hadith is restricted to a GROUP amongst the Jews, the followers (soldiers) of the Anti-Christ! There’s no General and Open-Ended command to KILL the Jews. IN contrast, Luke 19:27 is a Genocidal Command of Jesus Christ that APPLIES to all Jews (Millions of people), Jesus doesn’t differentiate the way Prophet Muhammad did (above). The Quran distinguishes between Combatants and Civilians (Q. 4:75, 8:61, 60:8).

And indeed, among the People of the Scripture are those who believe in Allah and what was revealed to you and what was revealed to them, [being] humbly submissive to Allah . They do not exchange the verses of Allah for a small price. Those will have their REWARD with their Lord. Indeed, Allah is swift in account. (Q. 3:199)

Not all of them are alike; a party of the people of the Scripture stand for the right, they recite the Verses of Allah during the hours of the night, prostrating themselves in prayer. (Q. 3:113)

Indeed, those who believed and those who were Jews or Christians or Sabeans [before Prophet Muhammad] – those [among them] who believed in Allah and the Last Day and did righteousness – will have their REWARD with their Lord, and no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve. (Q. 2:62)

We are FORBIDDEN to harm Jews and Christians UNLESS they fight us (2:190, 22:39). Contrast to the Genocidal Luke 19:27, the “pagans” of Q. 9:5 comprise a GROUP (soldiers) of that Time who BROKE the Covenant; by the Historical Context and Setting Q. 9:5 is NOT general. There’s nothing in Quran like Luke 19:27 or Psalms 5:5. And there’s NOTHING in Luke 19:27 that Differentiates between the Jews (as the Quran does), Jesus says to “KILL THEM ALL” as a General Command!

But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them–bring them here and KILL THEM in front of me.’”

But those mine enemies,…. Meaning particularly the JEWS, who were enemies to the person of Christ, and hated and rejected him, as the King Messiah; and rebelled against him, and would not submit to his government; and were enemies to his people, and were exceeding mad against them, and persecuted them; and to his Gospel, and the distinguishing truths of it, and to his ordinances, which they rejected against themselves: (John Gill, Exposition of the Entire Bible)

Luke 19:27 extends to WOMEN too! Yet, the Quran commands Muslims to FIGHT FOR women (4:75), not a SINGLE passage in the Quran condones KILLING women! The Bible condones the KILLING of women (Num. 31:17-20, Deut. 2:34, 3:5, 20:16, 2 Chron. 15:13, 1 Sam. 15:3, Ez. 9:6) and GOD is silent! Here’s the Contrast between the Quran and Bible:

Narrated By ‘Abdullah : During some of the Ghazawat of the Prophet a woman was found killed. Allah’s Apostle disapproved the killing of women and children. (Bukhari Volume 004, Book 052, Hadith Number 257)

Ibn `Abbas says: The Messenger of Allah, when dispatching his troops, would tell them, ” ..Do not behave treacherously, nor misappropriate war-booty, nor mutilate [those whom you kill], nor kill children, nor the people in cloisters.” (Musnad Ahmad, Sunan At-Tirmidhî)

Another narration records that he said, “…Do not kill a woman, nor a child, nor an old-aged man’ (Sharh as-Sunnah Al-Baghawî) Narrated Anas ibn Malik: The Prophet said: Go in Allah’s name, trusting in Allah, and adhering to the religion of Allah’s Apostle. Do not kill a decrepit old man, a young infant, or a child, or a woman; do not be dishonest about booty, but collect your spoils, do right and act well, for Allah loves those who do well. (Sunan Abî Dawûd)

And again, “Do not kill a child, nor a woman, nor an old man, nor obliterate a stream, nor cut a tree…” (Sunan Al-Bayhaqî)

      IN CONTRAST, the Bible says:

Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man,18 but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man. (Numbers 31:17,18)

This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt. Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy [a] everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’ (1 Samuel 15:2,3)

”…Lior’s enthusiasm for Shapira’s tract stems from his own eliminationist attitude toward non-Jews. For example, while Lior served as the IDF’s top rabbi, he instructed soldiers: “There is no such thing as civilians in wartime… A thousand non-Jewish lives are not worth a Jew’s fingernail!” (https://www.loonwatch.com/2010/09/shocking-religious-defense-of-killing-non-jews-with-video/)

No civilians in wartime? That is the WAR-DOCTRINE of Judaism and Biblical Christianity, not Islam. Even if the “violent passages” of the Quran are GENERAL and OPEN-ENDED (as Spencer claims), it’s ONLY directed to the Combatants (not Civilians). IF the War-passages of the Bible are GENERAL (which is Debatable) then Jews and Christians are KILLING women and children (Civilians) with a CLEAR Conscience (they have Religious Basis). Yet, the Muslims are always ATTACKED (verbally and physically) for being VIOLENT when those “Islamic Extremists” are following the Bible’s war doctrine (not Islam) without knowing it (destruction, women and children). The Bible has a SUICIDE BOMBER, his name was Samson. Read up ‘The Samson Option’, Herem, and Perpetual Servitude.

Hence, the Bible is MORE violent than the Quran. Luke 19:27 is much HARSH than Q. 9:5 and Sahih Muslim, 41-6985 (above).

The above Hadith is NOT General and Open-ended call for genocide! Islam distinguishes between Combatants and Civilians (Q. 2:190-3, 4:75, 22:39, 60:8), Judaism and Biblical Christianity DO NOT. The SOLDIERS of the Anti-Christ are NOT civilians, they are 70,000 combatants. Compare that to the MILLIONS of Jews that Jesus KILL when He returns (Luke 19:27). And what about the TWO MILLION people that Yahweh massacred in the Bible?

“Whoever harms a dhimmi (Jew or Christian) has harmed me” (Tirmidhi).

The Prophet, may Allah bless him, said, “Whoever killed a Mu’ahid (a person who is granted the pledge of protection by the Muslims) shall not smell the fragrance of Paradise though its fragrance can be smelt at a distance of forty years (of traveling).” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 2930)

“Whoever oppresses a dhimmi or loads a work that is over his strength or takes something away from him by force, I am his foe on the Day of Judgment.” (Abu Dawud, Kharaj, 31-33)|

      COMPARE the following:

And say: “The truth from your Lord (has come in this Qur’an). ” Then, whoever wills (to believe), let him believe; and whoever wills (to disbelieve), let him disbelieve.} (Al-Kahf 18: 29)

But those enemies of mine who DID NOT want me to be king over them–bring them here and KILL THEM in front of me.’” (Lk 19:27)

If it had been your Lord’s will, all of the people on Earth would have believed. Would you then compel the people so to have them believe? (Yunus 10: 99)

There is no Compulsion in Religion, Truth stands out Clear from Error (Q. 2:256)

All who would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, were to be PUT TO DEATH, whether small or great, man or woman.” (2 Chron. 15:13)

      RESPONSE:

Needless to say, there’s no substance and weight in your statement because it BACKFIRES on you! You ignore the “scriptural exhortations” throughout the Torah, Talmud, and other Jewish Texts to unfriend, hate, and murder Gentiles.

“Jehovah created the non-Jew in human form so that the Jew would not have to be served by beasts. The non-Jew is consequently an ANIMAL in human form, and condemned to serve the Jew day and night” (Nidrasch Talpioth, p. 225-L, TALMUD).

“Murdering Goyim is like killing a wild animal” (Sanhedrin 59a)

“God has given the Jews power over the possessions and blood of all nations” (Seph. Jp., 92, 1)

“To communicate anything to a Goy about our religious relations would be equal to the killing of all Jews, for if the Goyim knew what we teach about them, they would kill us openly” (Libbre David 37)

“Sexual intercourse with a little girl is permitted if she is three years o fage” (Yebhamoth 11b

“If a heathen (Gentile) hits a Jew, the Gentile must be killed. Hitting a Jew is the same a sshitting God” (Sanhedrin 58b).

“Jews must destroy the books of the Christians” (Shabbath 116a)

“When a Jew murders a Gentile (“Cuthean”), there will be no death penalty. What a jEW STEALS FROM A gENTILE HE MAY KEE;PP “(sANHEDRIN 57A).

“All property of other nations belongs to the Jewish nation, which consequently, is entitled to seize upon without any scruples” (Schulchan Aruch, Choszen Hamiszpat, 348

“We have to recognize that Jewish blood and the blood o fa goy are not the same thing |(NY times, June 6, 1989, p 5)

“One million Arabs are not worth a Jewish fingernail” (Rabbi Yaacov Perrin, NY Daily News, Feb. 28, 1994, p. 6)

We implore YOU by the Moral Principle of Honesty to produce BRING FORTH these “scriptural exhortations” so the Muslims can EXPOSE you.

The following Saying of Jesus applies to you perfectly:

How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. (Luke 6:42)

There’s a great deal of audacity inconsistency and blatant hypocrisy and IRONY on your statements, the clear distortion, misinterpretation, and Corruption of the Islamic Sources by Trolls (such as yourself) is appalling to the HIGHEST degree. As though Islamophobice eisegesis hasn’t gone FAR enough, it apparently has reached its peak.

The Grand Mufti of Egypt Mufti Sheikh Ali Gomaa wrote:

“…The world is sorely in need of such lessons, which represent the authentic teachings of the Koran and the prophet of Islam. It is important to separate these noble messages from those that are bandied about by those who have no competencies in religious interpretation, Koranic hermeneutics or the history of Islamic thought.

Where does the Quran say to HATE Jews? I challenge you to FIND a passage in the Quran like this:

The arrogant cannot stand in your presence. You HATE all who do wrong; (Psalms 5:5). Where does the Quran say “hate?” IT never says “Hate the Jews”; the Quran divides the Jews and Christians into the Good and Evil, condemning the Evil and praising the Good. The Righteous Jews are HONORED in the Quran (Q. 3:113, Al-Jathiyah:16)

The religious dissociation of Abraham and other religious personalities from the main body of Jews and Christians was an inevitable consequence of two strands among Jews and Christians. The Qur’an continuously praises the one strand, and condemns the other, e.g., ‘From among them (i.e., the People of the Book) there is an upright group but most of them perpetrate misdeeds’ (V, 66). They were asked to live up to the Torah and the Evangel (V, 68), but, like the proprietors of all organized religious traditions, Jews and Christians quarrelled among themselves and each claimed that the keys of salvation were firmly in their exclusive grasp: ‘The Jews say the Christians have nothing to stand on and the Christians say the Jews have nothing to stand on, and they both read the Book’ (Fazlur Rahman, Islam, pg. 27)

The Jews are addressed in two roles in the Qur’an: in their role as an earlier community of believers, prior recipients of revelation, and in their role as a group living in Yathrib(the city that would become Madina), whose interests sometimes agreed with those of Muslims, and sometimes not. The Jews are sometimes praised for values that they held on to, sometimes chastised for values they abandoned in the former role, and revelations concerning their latter role guided the politics of the early Muslim community, which did sometimes involve opposing the Jews in Yathrib in military campaigns. What has happened is that verses that were revealed for a very specific circumstance were deemed to be normative, and verses praising the values that the Jews maintained have been habitually ignored. While the Qur’an was revealed during a time of conflict with a Jewish community, it does not espouse anti-Semitism as a value. It’s a bit like saying that Christians should despise modern Romans because of the persecution that the early Christian community endured from the Roman empire. (http://www.islamicboard.com/clarifications-about-islam/20751-what-qurans-view-jews.html)

Yahweh, the GOD of the Bible, murders the Jews:

But the LORD killed seventy men from Beth-shemesh because they looked into the Ark of the LORD. And the people mourned greatly because of what the LORD had done. (1 Samuel 6:19)

”God is always killing his chosen people. And, as usual, the people repent and ask Moses to pray to God for them. He does, and God tells him to make a bronze snake, so all the people who were bitten and haven’t died yet could look at it and be cured. Oh what a miracle, God saves a few people from the snakebites that he himself caused! God didn’t kill quite as many of his own chosen people as he was going to! Wingnut Islamophobes Create Another Hoax Story: Muslims Rape Horse

The sick servile minds of the Islamophobes know no depths of depravity that they aren’t willing to revel in; EDL Review takes them to task for circulating lies in the Islamophobic looniverse.:

Muslim Horse Rape Story EXPOSED

(EDL Review)

Islamophobic sites like IslamVersusEuropeBaredNakedIslam and Vivienco, have been posting and regurgitating a story claiming that a 53-year-old ‘Muslim’ inhabitant of El Ejido abused, and raped a female horse (click on the names for their articles). But the story has been manipulated and has been a petty attempt to demonise Muslims.

First of all, it’s extremely strange that these sites have provided no or little source or reference to the story they are mentioning. Secondly, the author fails to give the name of the rapist, and only gives the initials ‘M.A’. Why? Is it so we don’t find out that this incident never even happened? Thirdly, earlier news reports (like this) only say the man was ‘African’. There was no mention of his faith.

A real-looking picture of a dead horse has been added into the manipulating articles, giving the impression it’s the same horse that was ‘raped’. As you can see, BaredNakedIslam even claim it is.

But this picture isn’t even of the incident! It’s a four-year-old picture that has been used previously in a Spanish news article titled ‘Wild horses cause three accidents in recent days Carnota’ (here), explaining how some Spanish workers were injured when crashing into horses on a road!

Clearly, these websites have been manipulating people by twisting things for their biased agenda. Only the gullible have been believing them without checking their accuracy, like the English Defence League (EDL) Surrey Division.

Note: We have exposed sites such as Vivienco before when they circulated a similar duck rape article and blamed it on a Muslim. The story was alsomanipulated. Read about it below.

The link provided indicated that three different accidents had occurred when unfenced horses roaming the hills of Galicia strayed into the roadway in January and February of 2008. The climate of Galicia, on the north coast of Spain, is a lot colder and foggier than most of Iberia, and at night, especially, it was not possible to see these dark bay horses, let alone stop. One woman wound up in the hospital; as I can make out, two adult horses and a foal were killed. The mayor demanded that those who owned horses put identifying marks on them, and that horses be kept from accessing the roadway.

I know that much, and I never studied Spanish. I have only as much of the language as I picked up in the streets of Miami after it was run over, yet it is clear to me none of these horses are rape victims. What we’re seeing, then, is no misconstruction, but an intentional malicious lie.

    • Reynardine

Given that it wasn’t even the right horse, the rest of it is likely baloney, too (I shouldn’t have said that, because now these freaks will claim Muslim women disport themselves with baloneys). But why a horse?

Well, have you ever checked out a stallion? A man who could make an impression on a mare would be, well, unusual. And that’s what these Islamophobes are quaking in their boots about. WHAT IF THESE PAYNIMS ARE ENDOWED LIKE STALLIONS? AND THEY’RE INVADING US! Some similar idea, I understand, was behind all the Victorian “invasion literature”. Only now that all the Romanians and Roossians and such have proven to be as normal as anyone else, they’re obsessing about AYRABS, who are so formidable they kill MARES! How can a feller compete any more?

      P. S. There was a case of duck rape, but it was in Miami some twenty-seven years ago. The perp was American, and already no stranger to the Jackson Memorial psych ward.

    • Fred

It’s also important to note that there’s hardly ANY sources that give us early stories before the Islamophobic sites started publishing. It’s definitely strange… and even stranger that they didn’t even provide these crucial sources.

    • Fred

And yeah, its a case that happened in Almería, Spain. Where the majority are Christian.

    • Fred

      @Zakariya Ali Sher

Other sources also state the man was African, so it’s just a compilation of silly stories. Nevertheless, what Islamophobes are failing to realise is that religion has no part in this. You’re right though, they’re implying it does and are deeply stupid about it.

    • @Garibaldi

Anyway, even if it were true, it would be a logical falacy to say that because this sick man happened to be a Muslim, this would somehow reflect poorly on Islam, or Muslims for that matter, but these sites usually aren’t very logical, in addition to being dishonest.

    • @Garibaldi

Not surprising that they have practically no sources backing them up on this. This sounds like something they would make up out of thin air.

    • Zakariya Ali Sher

Ummm, to be fair, the early story cited in this article describes the man as ‘magrebí,’ a Spanish cognate with the Arabic Maghrebi, implying that he was Moroccan (or at least North African) in origin. And while there are Moroccan Jews, it is still a Muslim majority country. Even without giving his name, being Moroccan is enough for many people to equate this with ‘Muslim.’

Now… that said, his actions most certainly are not in accordance with Islam. Abuse of animals is considered a sin in Islam, and so is bestiality. This individual was presumably non-practicing. At most he MIGHT have been raised Muslim, but he certainly wasn’t following the precepts of the faith. Not that it would matter either way, since he’s clearly a sick, heartless individual and should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, regardless of whether he is Muslim, Jew, Christian, Atheist or whatever…

Of course, the bigger implication here is that once again we have the Islamophobic right wingers attempting to imply that Islam endorses bestiality. That is a very unusual claim, especially considering the stereotypes on Islam and sexuality, but it is a particularly insidious one. I think part of the reason is because it is so easy to make up things about Islam, given the general ignorance of their target audience. But then, why bestiality in particular? I think its mostly because it serves to alienate Muslims from the rest of society. It paints us as ‘different,’ ‘exotic,’ and of course, ‘savage.’

But then, it runs into a couple of big problems. Perhaps most amusingly, secular Western democracies have actually legalized bestiality, amongst them Germany. According to wikipedia, France only outlawed bestiality in 2004, and the Netherlands in 2010. Denmark apparently tried to outlaw bestiality and failed.

Muslim men seem to have quite a range of species they like to have sex with. They like goats. I have heard some like camels too. Sometimes, they might have farewell sex with their dead wives, as the Egyptian “fatwa” proved. But they might also like horses. And if they don’t like any of it, they like to blow themselves up and do it with 72 virgins in heaven.

Rabbi Jill Jacobs explains message behind New York subway ads

Inae Oh of the Huffington Post interviews Rabbi Jill Jacobs, executive director of Rabbis for Human Rights-North America, which took out an advertisementurging New York subway users to “help stop bigotry against our Muslim neighbors”, in an effort to counter Pamela Geller’s notorious “savages” ad. Rabbi Jacobs explains:

“I was very concerned that people might think that these ads speak for the Jewish community, as Geller couches her anti-Muslim message in the language of supporting Israel. The suggestion that she is speaking only about terrorists, and not about Muslims in general, falls apart as soon as you read her writings, which are fear mongering about Muslims in the U.S. and in the world, and about Islam as a religion.”

She adds: “I want to spread the message that 1800 rabbis – along with the majority of the American Jewish community – believes in partnership with our Muslim neighbors. We, of course, oppose all acts of terrorism. We will not, however, allow the actions of a small minority to be an excuse for dehumanizing an entire people.”

@Bilal: If by ‘Muslims’ you mean ‘certain nations who happened to be Muslim,’ then yes, I agree. Even the fact that, probably, up until the 1600s-1700s, they were fairly similar in terms of economic development with their Western counterparts. However, economics (the development of mercantilism leading to capitalism), as well as their own natural abundance allowed them to slingshot ahead. Trade routes that nations like the Ottoman Empire once ruled became obsolete because no one wanted to pay their tariffs.

As for Islam being perfected in Muhammad’s time, well, I’m a friend to Muslims (as an agnostic); otherwise, I wouldn’t be here. At the same time, though, I can’t say I honestly agree. But your point about learning more about Islam’s history is well met. Educating yourself is never a fool’s errand.

    • Garibaldi

      @Geji,

What I was referring to specifically is there has not been enough discussion about Pamela Geller’s anti-Muslim fear-mongering in the media, and I am commending Rabbi Jill Jacobs for highlighting that. I don’t know why media outlets are excluding this bit when they cover Geller’s Ads, it makes me question if it’s lazy journalism or selective? I mean do they think it is too much editorializing for a report? I wouldn’t buy that argument.

To Geller most Muslims if they aren’t terrorists, are potential terrorists, and therefore a threat and dangerous to society.

    • Géji

      Garibaldi,

“This point has not been made enough during coverage of Geller’s hate ad campaign.”

And so Geller could be able to ‘define’ what is terrorism? and who are this ‘terrorists’ we keep on ‘hearing’ about anyway? Anyhoo, I’ve expressed ‘definitions’ accuracy on this Site. Seems current outlook of, Terrorism ; Anti-semitism ; Jihadis ; Islamic-Terrorism, Islamist, and so on, really ‘defines’ all.

    • Bilal

@nevermore , I suggest a bit of research into the history of Islam. The Muslims were the richest nations up to colonization and the reason they had no ‘reformation’ is because Islam was perfected the during the lifetime of Proohet Muhammed(PBUH) .

    • Nevermore

@Stoned Gremlin: You’re right. I misspoke to an extent. What I meant was that both places are lacking when compared to Europe’s development.

You’re certainly correct that some of the Caliphates throughout history were great powers; that is true. However, these are also pre-industrial societies. So far, in the industrial era and post-industrial era, both Africa and the Middle East have lost out while the places taken over by Europe (or have Europeans living in them for the most part) have triumphed. As for Africa: yes, again, compared to Europe, it does. The tsetse fly was a big factor in ensuring that native Africans could not build equivalent societies to their European counterparts (at least in the sub-Saharan parts) as did the general lack of staple food crops, though there were some exceptions like the yam. Not to mention: a lot of the empires in the north and in the west had impressive empires, for sure, but they did not effectively weed out tribal identities as what ultimately happened in Europe; this is a big problem when forming nation states. This general lack of organization into nation states is also what compounded problems for the areas that *do* have things available to them (like the area that’s the modern day Congo). The post in question was more a generalized look at the continent historically rather than specifically talking about religion.

These places did have something in lieu of resources, both in the north and the west (even east, if we’re counting Ethiopia in): human capital. I suspect this has been a reason Islam has had trouble historically, as far as I know, with abolitionism. When you live in areas where there aren’t many things to own, how do you create symbols of status and wealth? Enslavement seems to have worked for most societies. The great historic empires of western Africa built most of their wealth through this, selling conquered tribes to Europeans. Of course, this was a problem not limited solely to Muslim Africans; no one seemed generally to be too picky about who got sold.

You don’t have to tell me about the blight that is colonialism and imperialism. I don’t mean for that to sound harsh, but I’m well aware. But Africa, prior to the 19th century, was simply viewed as a backwater. Much of the ‘Scramble for Africa’ was either vanity projects or attempting to secure trade routes (mostly in the U.K.’s case here). They were colonies/possessions for the sake of simply having them for many. You’re totally right that their literal/figurative rape did them no favors at all.

As for oil: well, yes, they’ve got that. Right now, that’s all they might need. The thing is, though, that in the generally authoritarian/dictatorial atmosphere of the Middle East, this means little. Hardly any of the citizens see the wealth generated by the ‘black gold’ that’s underneath them. Whom ever’s in charge gets a cut, while the companies and various cronies each get a share. The astronomical unemployment rates of many of these countries is a testament to this. Again, maybe I could have explained myself better, but for a populace to become more liberal, it must also be better educated. The lack of money of these people (for schooling) simply compounds the unfortunate fact their leaders just don’t give a damn about them.

    • Stoned Gremlin

@Nevermore I see a little flaw in your argument there. You’re telling me that AFRICA is lacking RESOURCES? Many countries under Muslim rule during the days of the Caliphate were major world players even in pre Islamic times such as Persia, Iraq, Egypt, India etc.

One of the reasons why former commonwealth nations aren’t as wealthy as western nations is because their resources were exploited by colonial powers to develop the countries of the COLONIALS’ rather than to continue their own economic growth.

You’re telling me that one of the problems the middle east faces is lack of money? The region most abundant in OIL?

    • Nevermore

Islam will ‘reform’ (a very strange term indeed considering that there are liberal imams in the West just as much as there are liberal pastors, priests, rabbis, etc.) when the places that we associate with its fringe lunatics become richer. History has proven that time and again money brings liberalism. When those nations sort themselves out and are able to properly guide their own destinies, then you’ll see them start to look like the West’s religious figures.

Christianity and Judaism (in the sense of ‘the West’) have the benefit of being centered in a part of a world rich in natural resources and the ability to hold large, urbanized populations. Islam typically has been in areas that are resource poor, like the Middle East and Africa. “It’s the economy, stupid!” is a much better explanation than “Those stupid, unwashed ‘Mooslims’ are so barbaric and primitive!”

As for the article: I applaud Mizz Jacobs for taking a stand against Geller and her ilk. For a people that have known so much suffering throughout their history, it’s nice to know that some have chosen to dedicate themselves to not letting a similar fate befall anyone else.

    • AJ

      @Bill,

“I ask the obvious questions”When will islam follow?–When will islam Reform itself?–When will islam stop with hate and hostility?–When will islam stop submission?–I’m sorry to see no light at the end of islam’s tunnel–Is there hope?”

      1) Islam is the leader.

      2) Islam = Reform

      3) Islam does not teach hate and hostility.

      4) Islam = Submission to God

      5) Stop being a pessimist. Get out of your mole hole and see the world. You will see the light.

      6) Yes, there is hope but first you have to Believe. I Believe and so I do have hope. You will to.

    • AJ

I feel that the Jewish organizations that have been fighting Geller et al before her current ad campaign appeared have more validity than the ones that are countering her after the ad. Now it could be that Geller’s ad have become more vicious so these Jewish organizations have stepped in but there is also a chance that Geller has made a big mistake by involving the name of Israel in the current ad which would make Israel appear like a culprit in Islamophobia. These Jewish organizations need to step in to save their name. It could be either of the causes so I don’t fell very warm hearted about the Jews who got involved after this ad because I don’t know their motive.

    • dude

      @Bill

sounds like Daniel Pipes who ignored the existence of Torah observant Jews back in 1980:

      http://www.danielpipes.org/160/the-jewish-muslim-connection-traditional-ways-of-life

While most Jews cheerfully accept modern life, Muslims contest every concession to it. As a result, Judaism today appears in many ways more akin to Christianity than to Islam; and in many ways it is. Yet this is new. For many centuries, adherence to divine law made Judaism and Islam kindred spirits. Conceivably they could be so one day again; but that will happen only when Muslims too abandon the law.

Until he realized more recently that if current tragic demographic trends continue, the Torah Jewish community will be the only one left standing within a generation:

      http://www.danielpipes.org/2370/the-future-of-judaism

Should this trend continue, it is conceivable that the ratio will return to roughly where it was two centuries ago, with the Orthodox again constituting the great majority of Jews. Were that to happen, the non-Orthodox phenomenon could seem in retrospect merely an episode, an interesting, eventful, consequential, and yet doomed search for alternatives, suggesting that living by the law may be essential for maintaining a Jewish identity over the long term.

By the transitive property of Pipes own logic, Muslims would be daft to abandon their Law.

    • Just Stopping By

      @Bill:

“I too think that the Rav here is going in the right direction–Take notice that she is a female Rabbi from either the Reform or Conservative sides of Judaism which aren’t as misogynistic as the Orthodox Jews.”

Yes, those misogynistic denominations that ordain women as rabbis, hating them so much as to give them a position as the leader of their congregation. The only thing more amusing in that sentence was when you called her “the Rav”, since that sounds really masculine, as opposed to the generally (though not universally) preferred term of Rabbah for a female rabbi.

As for Islam, your claim that Islam is essentially hate and hostility is similarly problematic, as it similarly attributes the worst attributes of a few to an overall religion or denomination. I don’t think the rabbah, whose ads say, “help stop bigotry against our Muslim neighbors,” would approve.

    • Franczeska

Nice series of loaded questions, Billy Rojas.

Great post Jai, it is only if the real meaning of Jihad is explained by a non-Muslim will it be understood and people may pay attention. It has been correctly explained as in internal struggle in all aspects of one’s life; to the point when a smoker wants to quit, he/she is doing jihad against its own desire. And I want to thank the good Rabbi for such an understanding gesture, we need more people from all religions to start thinking this way, after all it is the second largest religion of the world and majority are good law abiding and tolerant. Regards

I recently made the following point at the end of a Loonwatch comments thread about Robert Spencer, but as that article is no longer on the front page, I’ll repeat my statements here:

Sheila Musaji’s new article is definitely worth reading in full: http://theamericanmuslim.org/tam.php/features/articles/afdi-sioa-roll-out-another-anti-muslim-ad/0019401

Not only does Pamela Geller plan at least 9 more anti-Muslim ads, but (no doubt in response to the escalating backlash) Robert Spencer himself has disingenuously started trying to publicly distance himself from the ad campaign.

Furthermore, as Sheila Musaji’s article documents, it turns out that Robert Spencer is on record as publicly admitting that the word “jihad” certainly doesn’t necessarily mean anything negative, including “violence” or even “holy war”. Sheila’s article includes the URL link to Spencer’s own recent JihadWatch article on the subject: http://www.jihadwatch.org/2012/10/islamic-supremacist-writer-discovers-that-jihad-is-sometimes-connected-to-terrorism.html

      Quote from Spencer’s JihadWatch article:

Robert Spencer: “This page [explaining Spencer’s decision for choosing the name “Jihad Watch”] has been linked to the front page of the Jihad Watch website since October 2003, and all that time it has said this: “Jihad (Arabic for ‘struggle’) is a central duty of every Muslim. Muslim theologians have spoken of many things as jihads: [for example] the struggle within the soul…..I discuss the various meanings of jihad, including that of spiritual struggle, in my 2003 book Onward Muslim Soldiers and many times elsewhere. On hundreds of radio shows over the years I have explained, as part of my basic explanation of the word, that “jihad” in Arabic has as many connotations and shades of meaning as “struggle” does in English — as I explained in this 2008 interview: “The word means ‘struggle,’ and has as many connotations as the English word ‘struggle’ does. The Islamic Republic of Iran has a Department of Agricultural Jihad, which has to do with the struggle to increase crop yields.””

It proves that Robert Spencer & Pamela Geller are perfectly aware that they’re deliberately promoting misinformation about Islam & Muslims during their continuing anti-Muslim propaganda campaign, including the current ads in New York.

Some enterprising organisation should simply create posters quoting Spencer’s statement above and display them right next to Geller’s ads in NY.

    • Garibaldi

Happy to see Rabbi Jacobs speak out on why she put up the counter ads. I think the points she makes here is crucial,

“The suggestion that she is speaking only about terrorists, and not about Muslims in general, falls apart as soon as you read her writings, which are fear mongering about Muslims in the U.S. and in the world, and about Islam as a religion.”

This point has not been made enough during coverage of Geller’s hate ad campaign.

I agree with mindy1 and with Rabbi Jacobs.

Breaking: Pastor Nadarkhani Released, Aquitted of Apostasy

Pastor Nadarkhani

We’ve been following the plight of jailed Iranian Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, who’s been held on charges of apostasy and Christian evangelizing for more than 1,000 days. At last, he has been released. (H/T: Sarah Brown)

Iran Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani Acquitted of Apostasy, Released From Jail

By Lillian KwonChristian Post Reporter

Youcef Nadarkhani, the Iranian pastor who captured the hearts of millions as he stood firm in his faith while facing execution, has been acquitted of apostasy.

Two organizations that have closely been monitoring the case and have sources in Iran reported Saturday that Nadarkhani, who went on trial early Saturday, has been released from prison and is at home with his family.

“Thank you to everyone that has supported me with your prayers,” Nadarkhani said, according to Present Truth Ministries.

Though acquitted of apostasy, the Iranian pastor was found guilty of evangelizing Muslims. He was sentenced to three years imprisonment but was released because he already served this time.

“We give thanks to God for His deliverance and the answer to our prayers,” Jason DeMars, founder of Present Truth Ministries, said in a statement.

Christian Solidarity Worldwide also confirmed the pastor’s release.

“We commend the Iranian judiciary for this step, which is a triumph for justice and the rule of law,” said CSW Chief Executive Mervyn Thomas. “While we rejoice at this wonderful news, we do not forget hundreds of others who are harassed or unjustly detained on account of their faith, and CSW is committed to continue campaigning until all of Iran’s religious minorities are able to enjoy religious freedom as guaranteed under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which Iran is party.”

Nadarkhani, pastor in a network of house churches, was arrested on Oct. 13, 2009, after protesting the government’s decision to force all children, including his own Christian children, to read the Quran.

He was initially charged for protesting but the charges were later changed to apostasy and evangelism to Muslims. In 2010, he was sentenced to death and the ruling was upheld by the Supreme Court of Iran last year.

According to [some interpretations of] Islamic Sharia Law, an apostate has three days to recant. The Christian pastor had refused to recant his faith.

Christians around the world have prayed and appealed for Nadarkhani’s release. A Twitter campaign advocating for his freedom reached more than 3 million.

Many of those “Islamic” countries invent things, and these apostasy laws are just one of these nonsense ideologies which they claim to be Islamic.

    • yourKinFolk

im not a muslim, im more like a free lance monotheist, but i have been studying the quran and hadith literature for 5 year now, just as i have been studying christian and jewish scripture as well as many eastern religious scriptures…. i have yet to see any saying in the quran, in the 15 translations that i have on my shelf, or in my sahih bukhari or muslim hadith collections, that justify any kind of legal/physical penalty for apostates… every time i think i may see one, i see that its not apostasy per se, but treason against the state that required a death penalty… like, if a former muslim defected and went to the meccans to tell military secrets etc.. etc… and for most of those cases there was forgiveness on the part of mohammad where no penalty was ascribed…. where do these countries with apostasy laws get their precedent from if its not in the quran or sunnah? where did the major madhabs get them from?

“resident Eeyore” :’D I think that one is going to stick.

    • Steve

@Ilisha, he served 3 years for a victimless “crime” – that is not something iran should be congratulated for

    • It’s wonderful news that he has finally been released, and like everyone else, I agree he never should’ve been arrested in the first place. As seen in Pakistan and Iran, these laws against so-called “apostates” are just ridiculous. Even more so that they’re are done in the name of Islam when the Quran teaches us that Christians are our brothers in faith. The hypocrisy of such laws are obvious, I only hope more people in the countries which they exist will voice against them.

    • Steve

@Ilisha, my comments aren’t bitter. I am querying the people who are congratulating iran. He should never have been arrested in the first place and his life threatened. In the end they decided to sentence him to three years in prison for “evangelizing Muslims” – a patently ridiculous “crime”. He served his sentence and was released. We should be condemning iran not congratulating them. It is entirely positive he has been released but that shouldn’t reflect any glory on to iran.

khushboo – I don’t see why one should be especially happy with what Iran does – of course acknowledge that it’s wholly positive he is free, and that Iran could have acted worse, but he still got three years for evangelising even if he had served that time already. I also think – given the whole Iran/US/Israel nexus – it is not unreasonable to speculate about any possible relationship between this decision and any wider diplomatic processes.

Moriscos, Marranos, Columbus, and Islamophobes

A very interesting article by Sheila Musaji on the early presence of Muslims in the Americas and how this is driving Islamophobes crazy.:

Moriscos, Marranos, Columbus, and Islamophobes

by Sheila Musaji (The American Muslim)

Pamela Geller was horrified by comments reportedly made at the recent Jumah at the DNC event. She comments on an article in the Washington Times that quoted one of the organizers, Jibril Hough,  as saying :

“Muslims visited America prior to Columbus. It was a Muslim who guided Columbus on his voyage to the new world.”

Geller find this a “desecration of American history”, and “Islamic supremacist historical revisionism”.

Interestingly, on the same day that I read Geller’s comments, I received an anti-Muslim email titled “Muslim Heritage in America?” which opened with Have you ever been to a Muslim hospital, heard a Muslim orchestra, seen a Muslim band march in a parade, witnessed a Muslim charity, shaken hands with a Muslim Girl Scout, seen a Muslim Candy Striper, or seen a Muslim do anything that contributes positively to the American way of life ????  The answer is no, you did not. Just ask yourself WHY ???.  It then claims that Muslims never contributed anything to America, never fought in any of our wars, never participated in the civil rights movement, etc.  It then went on to pretty much repeat the Can a good Muslim be a good American email that goes around every year or so.  Except for the Muslim band marching in a parade, I have seen all of these things.

Geller’s comments (picked up and spread by the Islamophobia echo chamber on the web), and this email are part of the Islamophobes ongoing campaign to paint American Muslims as “the other”, and not part of American history, or for that matter part of American society at all.  Some time ago, I wrote an article Muslims are a part of our American heritage discussing the long history of Muslims in America.  That article clearly shows that they are wrong on all counts.

Whether or not Jibril Hough’s comments are accurate historically is certainly a matter of debate for historians.  There are many theories about Norse, Irish (St. Brendan) **, Chinese, Phoenician, African, Arab, Japanese, etc. groups having reached North or South America prior to Columbus. **  None of these claims can be proven absolutely, and some have more evidence than others to be considered as possibilities.  There is certainly no supremacism involved in believing that any of these might be true.

1492, the year of Columbus’ voyage was the same year that Ferdinand and Isabella completed the Reconquista and captured Granada. At that time Muslims and Jews were given a choice to either convert, go into exile, or face the Inquisition.  Among both communities some became Moriscos (Muslims) or Marranos (Jews) who chose “conversion” to Christianity.  In some cases they were actually converts, but more often only pretended to convert in order to save themselves.

There have been many claims by both the Jewish and Muslim communities that there were Moriscos and/or Marranos who were on Columbus voyages.  In fact, some have even claimed that Columbus himself was a Marrano **.

Some of those who have been identified as Morisco/Marrano are:  Luis Torres, a translator Columbus brought along to speak to people in the Far East (where he thought he was going) and who spoke Hebrew and Arabic **, Rodrigo de Triana, Maestre Bernal, Pedro Alonzo Nino, etc.  **

It would certainly not be outside the realm of possibility that Moriscos and/or Marranos were among those who sailed with Columbus.  Although both categories of people were forbidden to emigrate to the “New World” by Spanish law, Paul Lunde wrote a lengthy article explaining how this was probably overcome in the article Muslims And Muslim Technology In The New World.

Another academic article Turks, Moors, & Moriscos in Early America: Sir Francis Drake’s Liberated Galley Slaves & the Lost Colony of Roanoke by Umar Faruq Abd-Allah, Ph.D. discusses

One very unusual and little-known event took place at the dawn of American colonial history in 1586. That year, Sir Francis Drake (1540-1596), the famous English seaman, discoverer, and privateer, brought at least two hundred Muslims (identified as Turks and Moors, which likely included Moriscos) to the newly established English colony of Roanoke on the coast of present-day North Carolina. The Roanoke settlement was England’s first American colony and constitutes the first chapter of English colonial history in the New World and what ultimately became the history of the United States. Only a short time before reaching Roanoke, Drake’s fleet of some thirty ships had liberated these Muslims from Spanish colonial forces in the Carribbean.  They had been condemned to hard labor as galley slaves.

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf wrote in an article Five myths about Muslims in America

Historians estimate that up to 30 percent of enslaved blacks were Muslims. West African prince Abdul Rahman, freed by President John Quincy Adams in 1828 after 40 years in captivity, was only one of many African Muslims kidnapped and sold into servitude in the New World. In early America, Muslim names could be found in reports of runaway slaves as well as among rosters of soldiers in the Revolutionary War. Muslims fought to preserve American independence in the War of 1812 and for the Union in the Civil War.

Karoline P. Cook, Ph.D. did a thesis at Princeton University titled Forbidden crossings: Morisco emigration to Spanish America, 1492—1650.  Here is the abstract:

During the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, emigration to Spanish America was restricted legally to old Christians, individuals who could prove they had been Catholic for at least three generations. Due to Spanish authorities’ preoccupations with spreading religious orthodoxy, Moriscos or Iberian Muslims, many of whom had been forcibly baptized at the beginning of the sixteenth century, were prohibited from settling in Spanish America. But these laws, like so many others during the period, were not fully enforced. Frequent royal decrees prohibiting Morisco emigration have led many historians to assume that no or very few Moriscos settled in Spanish America. However, the existence of a rich parallel historiography concerning Spanish and Portuguese conversos in the New World, who were subject to the same legislation as Moriscos, suggests that individuals evaded the restrictions by a variety of means and settled in the forbidden territories. Through a careful analysis of colonial legislation, inquisitorial records and court cases I analyze how Morisco emigrants negotiated their status, religious practices and relationships in a transatlantic context. I examine the influence of the purity of blood statutes that permeated local conflicts over status and honor, the role of the Inquisition in enforcing religious orthodoxy and the jurisdictional difficulties inquisitors and local officials faced.

Following the lines drawn by colonial authorities, many historians of Spanish America have assumed that the idealized legal and social entities, the Republic of Spaniards and the Republic of Indians, remained separate. Recent studies show that Spaniards and indigenous peoples interacted on a daily level more than was previously acknowledged. They have also challenged the unified legal category “Indian,” by recognizing the diverse peoples who were designated by this label. My research questions the category of Spaniard in similarly rigorous ways, troubling its implication of an “old Christian” who possessed purity of blood and formed part of a unified Catholic society. I demonstrate that the presence of Moriscos and Muslims in the Spanish Americas, as well as the circulation of knowledge about them, complicates notions of what it meant to be a Spaniard and part of an early modern Spanish world.

The first Jew to be identified as such entering America was Joachim Gans in 1584. Some people would argue that the first Jew was Luis de Carabajal y Cueva, a Spanish conquistador and converso, who first set foot in what is now Texas in 1554. **

Estevan of Azamor (or Estevanico) may have been the first Muslim to enter the historical record in North America. Estevanico was a Berber originally from North Africa who explored the future states of Arizona and New Mexico for the Spanish Empire in the 1530’s. **

If the Americas didn’t exist, it would not be possible for a 15th century ship to carry enough food and other supplies to permit a direct journey from Western Europe to East Asia. Columbus’s claim to be able to reach the Orient by sailing west was based on a gross underestimate for the circumference of the Earth. This couldn’t have happened in a Muslim country as the true circumference of the Earth was common knowledge in Muslim societies at the time.

If the Reconquista had failed, any discovery of the Americas by Muslims would be more analogous to Cabral than Columbus (ie ships sailing south in the Atlantic being blown off course to Brazil).

I remember an Antiques Roadshow from the Carribean – some guy came in with a helmet he had found buried somewhere – clearly was an early muslim one – the mail neckguard and pointy top kind. The fact is historians never really research this stuff as most are western and not interested in it. So people assume it didn’t happen.

    • Reynardine

I’d also point out that most of the navigational instruments of Columbus’s day were of Moorish origin. It also appears that there were many more Saracens than Christians who understood that the Earth is round.

As an ESOL instructor at a well-known language school, I had South American students with surnames like Del Zaide and Abuchaibe, and a Venezuelan student with a Spanish surname whose resemblance to Saddam Hussein was eerie.

We, of course, still bear the heavy influence of Don Luis Carvajal y de la Cueva, given he was our founder. Something I didn’t know until I was in college is that our most famous dish, ‘cabrito’ comes from his Jewish heritage.

[Open Thread Sunday] Robert Spencer’s White Nationalist Colors

Robert Spencer and his biggest fan: Anders Behring Breivik

Robert Spencer and his biggest fan: Anders Behring Breivik

This story comes to us via. Critical Dragon. It is an older story, originally published by the SPLC in November of last year. It is quite astonishing as it clearly proves Robert Spencer‘s links to and parroting of the White Nationalist line. This further adds to the nexus between Western cultural and racist supremacists and Islamophobia.

This piece of Spencer’s worldview seems to be largely overlooked by many when discussing his hate activism.

by Leah Nelson, SPLC

Proving yet again that nothing is beneath him, anti-Muslim propagandist Robert Spencer has put himself firmly in the camp of open white nationalists with an article published yesterday in Crisis magazine, a conservative Catholic publication. Replete with fawning references to the superior accomplishments of Western culture and the Catholic Church, the piece, titled “Is Multiculturalism Evil?,” proposes that Western civilization is superior to all others and that multiculturalists (aligned with “Islamic supremacists”) are colluding to bring it to its knees.

This is nearly the identical view forwarded by Anders Behring Breivik to justify his terrorist attacks in Norway. According to the Breivik and Spencer’s of the world there is a leftist-Muslim conspiracy that is attempting to destroy the West through the “cult of Multiculturalism.”

Spencer’s links to, associations with and citing of White nationalists, individuals associated with Holocaust denying publications, websites that positively review movies that are wildly popular with neo-Confederates and more gets a thorough treatment by Leah Nelson of the SPLC:

Spencer’s piece is punctuated with a recommended reading list that might have been taken from the bookshelf of John Tanton, the racist architect of the modern nativist movement. Of the five tracts he suggests, four were written and/or published by anti-immigration extremists. They include On the Immorality of Illegal Immigration by retired priest and longtime Tanton ally Patrick Bascio; The Immigration Mystique by Chilton Williamson, who is a frequent contributor to the white nationalist website VDARE; Anthony M. Esolen’s The Politically Incorrect Guide to Western Civilization, which was published by the white nationalist Regnery Press; and Jean Raspail’s 1973 Camp of the Saints, a racist fantasy about an invasion of France and the white Western world by a fleet of starving, dark-skinned refugees that was most recently republished by Tanton’s Social Contract Press.

(Interestingly, Crisis claims that Bascio’s book was put out by “Authorhouse,” of Bloomington, Ind. In fact, its first publisher was American Free Press, a hate group founded by Holocaust denier Willis Carto that also publishes an anti-Semitic and conspiracy-minded weekly.)

Given its recommended reading list, is should be no surprise that Spencer’s answer to the question “Is Multiculturalism Evil” is a resounding yes. Tipping his cap to his Catholic publisher, he denounces multiculturalism as a “heresy” intent on “[d]enigrating and ultimately destroying the Judeo-Christian West, not stamping out some putative racist devaluation of other cultures.”

“Today, no one questions the idea that one culture is as good as another,” he writes in shocked tones. “No one even whispers the possibility that the achievements of one group in a given area (for instance, medieval Christians) might actually surpass those of another group. No one even dares to think that there might be better indicators of the quality of an endeavor than the number of different ethnicities of the people involved.”

“Multiculturalism in reality is an anti-Christian, anti-Catholic, anti-Western exercise in moral and cultural Relativism. … A true multiculturalist hates all forms of Christianity and Judeo-Christian civilization, but retains particular contempt and bile for manifestations of Catholic piety and culture.”

In one particularly hypocritical section, Spencer complains that “European multiculturalists, working willingly in tandem with Islamic supremacists” are trying to enforce the Islamic prohibition against insulting Mohammad by extending anti-hate speech laws to Muslims, while ignoring insults to “the dominant Judeo-Christian culture.”

It is true, as Spencer says, that free speech is valued in the West – but unlike America, many European countries have laws against hate speech, and Spencer’s suggestion that they privilege Muslims is patently absurd. In 2005, for example, the Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard drew a set of offensive caricatures of Mohammed whose publication in European periodicals led to a violent reaction among some hard-line Muslims, including two attempts on Westergaard’s life. The cartoonist wasn’t prosecuted for hate speech against Muslims. Rather, he was placed under permanent police protection. On the other hand, in the same year, authorities in Austria arrested British national David Irving for denying the Holocaust. He was convicted and jailed in early 2006.

Spencer further complains about supposed “double standards” in academia, which he claims is controlled by multiculturalists who hate the West. Inconveniently, Anthony Esolen – whose Politically Incorrect Guide to Western Civilization is on Spencer’s recommended reading list – is currently employed as a professor at Providence College.

Despite his bile, it’s no surprise that Crisis should find Spencer appealing. While claiming that it “explores and articulates the subjects of politics, business, culture, faith, and family life from a Catholic perspective,” the magazine – like Patrick Buchanan, a famous Catholic who has recently written several articles for Crisis – obviously has no interest in the church’s pro-immigration stance. Its interim editor, John Zmirak, has contributed numerous articles to VDARE (which, oddly, has also published anti-Catholic screeds – including a recent attack on the church’s embrace of immigrants). Zmirak has also written for David Horowitz’s conservative and anti-Muslim FrontPageMagazine, to which his contributions include a highly positive review of “Gods and Generals,” a 2003 Civil War drama that minimized the role of slavery and was wildly popular in neo-Confederate circles.

Sure Breivik was a Zionist, but he was also clearly animated by a desire to defend whites against growing non-white populations (especially Muslim populations).

Breivik hated most diaspora Jews for supporting multiculturalism, while loving Israeli Jews as comrades-in-arms against the Muslim Hordes (TM). As Christians United for Israel shows, you don’t have to like Jews to be a Zionist.

    • George Carty

Breivik argued in his manifesto that the world’s population should be roughly halved to about 3 billion, but he also condemned feminism in Western countries on the grounds that it has caused a worrying reduction in white European birth rates.

Only a white nationalist would hold both those viewpoints simultaneously.

I guess you are confused by the fact that Breivik condemns Hitler’s Nazis, but it is really the pro-Hitler white nationalists who are illogical given that the vast majority of the deaths in World War II (or at least its European theatre) were white. Hitler was not a white supremacist but a German supremacist.

      Ilisha,

”First, let me say I really appreciate your contributions here. Even if I’ve never expressly said that before (and I think maybe I have?), I’ve thought it many times.”

Thank you once again for your extremely kind words. And yes, I do recall you recently mentioning that on another thread.

“Of course, those who like to write also have the guest post avenue–you’re welcome to contribute articles via email as well, if you’d like.”

Thank you very much. I’ll certainly email you draft articles if anything else comes to mind.

”As soon as practical, I’ll draft one of your suggested posts for the admin to review.”

That sounds perfectly fine. Please do feel free to use the material I’ve supplied above, especially the list about Robert Spencer. I do of course agree that it would be prudent to clear it with the admin first.

    • Awesome

I understand, you are completely right, 9/11 only happened in the mind of Spencer, like Toulouse, like Madrid, like Mumbai, like London, like the Taliban, like Nigeria, Like Egypt, Like Syria, like Sudan, like Liege, like Jemen, like Eritrea, like Somalia, like Pakistan, like Iran, like Iraq, like Mali, like Hamas, like Hezbollah, Like Bali, what a fool I am, I should have known better, I am terrible sorry about my misunderstanding of Islam.

In fact you still do not understand, because “9/11, like Toulouse, like Madrid, like Mumbai, like London, like the Taliban, like Nigeria, Like Egypt, Like Syria, like Sudan, like Liege, like Yemen, like Eritrea, like Somalia, like Pakistan, like Iran, like Iraq, like Mali, like Hamas, like Hezbollah, like Bali”, etc. are all part of the real world.

The only thing that is coming from Spencer’s mind is the anti-Islam rhetoric that he goes out of his way to shamelessly plug into his inane commentary on such things. Anyone who seriously believes that anything and everything negative involving any Muslim in the world always has something to do with Islam, is a person who lacks common sense and rationality. It should be common sense to any rational adult that people don’t work that way and neither does the world.

In reality, the world and how it works is far too complicated for your simple, small-minded ideas of it to possibly be true. This is especially true, when all you rely on for information are sensationalized police blotter websites of Muslim criminal activity worldwide, and only because they tell you what you want to hear. You want to hear negative things about Islam and Muslims, and actively seek them out, because you want what you chose to believe about Islam and Muslims to be verified as true so that you can feel vindicated about it. However, what you choose to believe is not necessarily going to be true.

How much self-deception can you swallow?

That is a question you should ask yourself, since you seem to be swallowing quite a lot of it.

Life is quest for truth, peace, love, harmony and freedom. If you find truth, you will also find peace, love, harmony and freedom.

If you do not experience these things, you will have to look and maybe be willing to turn around. Do not travel in the dark, you do need – the light -. Let There Be Light.

    • Sarah Brown

@thinker – I always think it’s meaningless to deny any form of bigotry, racism etc. But in response to your implication that people here, who disagree with you, hate Jews I’ll invoke simply the objective fact that I have been an occasional poster on a site in the UK dedicated to opposing antisemitism and regularly write elsewhere on this topic (and on anti-Muslim bigotry, homophobia, etc). I suspect I have different views from most here on the intersection between antisemitism and antizionism but to imply this is a site where people ‘hate Jews’ is quite unfair.

      Ilisha,

No problem at all — and thank you for your kind words about my comment. I look forward to a proper response from you when it’s more convenient.

      Ilisha,

Any thoughts on my last comment above ?

Eric Allen Bell: JihadWatch Zombie Still Obsessed with Obliterating Mecca

The increasingly unstable Eric Allen Bell (aka Eric Edborg) isn’t backing down from his calls to destroy Mecca. His genocidal predilections are endless. Last week I covered his cutesy attempt at fanning the flames of his Islamophobic followers fanatical anti-Muslim hate.

Now Bell is at it again, the chicken hawk wants the US military to hover over the Ka’ba and remove it.

Bell, having taken notice of the fact that his deluded hate-mongering is well known, gives his followers an empty warning, telling them to be careful of what hate they say because evil Obama-Mooslim-Brotherhood-Hamas-AlQaeda-linked-CAIR is watching:

Clearly Bell doesn’t know the meaning of “contradiction.”

As hollow a disclaimer as you will ever read, Bell who is extra-vigilante to ban those who oppose his hate goes ahead and leaves comments such as these up from Kim Bruce:

or James Garner:

You can check the thread out yourself and see all the other calls for nuking and killing, it would take a long time for us to load all of the screenshots.
