French actor’s anti-Muslim tweets

Posted on 06 September 2012 by Emperor

French actors getting into the Islamophobic action.

Genest echoes essentialized and bigoted anti-Islam/Muslim rhetoric that is common amongst those who entertain the Eurabia myth.:

French actor’s anti-Muslim tweets

Véronique Genest, star of the long-running French television police series Julie Lescaut, has come under attack over a series of Islamophobic comments on Twitter, in which she claimed that Islam is a threat to democracy and aims to impose sharia law on France, declared her admiration for the racist journalist Éric Zemmour and described it as a “historical fact” that Muslims are allies of the Nazis.

See Oumma.comHuffington Post and CcIF.

  • Truth Hurts

“a “historical fact” that Muslims are allies of the Nazis.”

This assertion has to be evaluated.

Some Muslims were allies of the Nazis, as were Jews, Christians, Atheists, Agnostics, Hindus, Sikhs & Buddhists etc.

Now did more Muslims support & fight for the Nazis or was it the opposite & why in which context.

I know that Free France had her armies with colonial Muslims, as did the largest volunteer army of commonwealth (pre-partition) “India” (comprising Pakistan, Bangladesh & India etc.) The Soviet armies had many Muslims too.

Now which Muslims supported the Nazis? Palestine (no), but some of the “Muslims” of Yugoslavia. Why? Perhaps being stuck in the middle of such “friendly Christian” neighbours such as the Serb Chetniks & Croatian Ustache militias had something to do with survival calculations. The support for Balkan Muslims by Jews in the USA during the Chetnik-led genocidal pogroms may have had something to do with historical refuge from the Catholic Inquisition i.e. returning a favour.

  • Steve

Geji, I was generalising to make a point to the person generalising. It does seem that anybody who generalises about muslims on here will be shouted down whereas people who make generalisation about any other group or area will be praised.

“All I can say is, I commend anyone who doesn’t hate for the sake of hating in that disgusting continent.”

Yet millions upon millions of muslims have moved to europe over the last few decades. Which is odd really given it is apparently such an intolerable to place to live. Given the large number of wondrous muslim countries to choose from why do so many muslims choose to move to europe?

  • rookie

“Look how they treat Muslims in Italy, even though Italian/Muslims have been there for centuries”.

    Anthony,

it does not matter if they have been there for centuries.
They will never be accepted there.

Many of you know the events that followed after the collapse of Former Yugoslavia.
    And what happened after that.
Unfortunately, very few know what happened in the Balkans after WW I and WW II.
Every time there was a powervacuum, muslims were targeted.

And you will admit, we, muslims from the Balkans were one of the most tolerant followers of the islamic faith on the earth.
I do not say there were no black sheeps in our communities in Bosnia, Kosovo, Sandzak, Macedonia and Montenegro.
But, in every single country in southeast Europe you will find a catholic church, orthodox church, a sinagoge and a mosque built next to each other in 15-th, 16-th, 17-th, 18-th century.
All of them built in the otoman era, and all of them in the centre of the city (See Sarajevo, Sofia, Skopje, Prizren, Montenegro).

Even though the ottomans ruled in the Balkans for almost five centuries!!!
    Can you imagine that?!

    Now, one small comparison.

During the war in Bosnia churches were not destroyed in the almost half destroyed capital of Sarajevo.

In the area controlled by serbs where there was no war zone, no single bullet fired (Banja Luka), serbs destroyed a medieval mosque (Ferhadija Mosque) in the very center of the town which was protected by UNESCO.

We, Balkan muslims have been facing Islamophobia for centuries, and nothing has changed until today.

This is why I find it very important to expose these bigots, because, once they get in power, they will do what their fellow fascists did and had been doing for decades in the Balkans.

  • Anthony

Europe sucks balls. Really, EDL, Sarkozy, Nielsen… I could go on and on. Look how they treat Muslims in Italy, even though Italian/Muslims have been there for centuries, even helped build modern day Sicily.

All I can say is, I commend anyone who doesn’t hate for the sake of hating in that disgusting continent.

  • Steve

@Kyle, that’s a ridiculous thing to say. I don’t want to wipe out muslims or anybody else for that matter.

I am certainly biased as I have no truck with organised religion. If people want to be religious then good for them but I don’t see why that should mean any kind of special treatment. I don’t agree with any kind of persecution of somebody just because they happen to be of one religion or another.

  • Géji

@Steve says: “And presumably Asia is busying itself in a sectarian bloodbath?”

First of, I believe by “sectarian” you mean two or more groups with different interpretations adhering to a particular biased partisanship of one particular mode of politic or ideology or religion etc. So then are you that ignorant of history to suggest that Europe don’t have sectarian divides or that Europeans never suffered sectarian bloodbath? on top of course the sectarian bloodbath it creates elsewhere overseas? And I suppose by your remarks of – “presumably Asia is busying itself in a sectarian bloodbath?” – you namely have Iraq in mind am I right? since it is the country that have seen for the past almost 10 years or so the most of sectarian bloodbath in “Asia”? but guess who created the “sectarian bloodbath” over there in the first place Steve.

“I thought we didn’t like generalisations on here.”

No one likes generalization true, and I wasn’t trying generalizing the European people as whole at all, that would be unfair, I was merely referring to the overall history of the continent itself. But its a fact that just for the past 100 years or so alone, Europe have been the only continent that gave birth to the two world wars known in history, which was responsible for millions upon millions of dead. Gave birth to some of the most appalling political systems in human history, namely fascism and the Nazis – the most atrocious political system in human memory, followed by communism, Stalinism etc, not to mention a violent colonialism that touched almost every nation on earth, and of course the only holocaust we can think of. All that and more Steve are on the history records of Europe, and just the most recent century that is, not centuries far off, its not like we’re “inventing” anything here. And if it wasn’t for this resoaring, reescalating, renewed, reheated of the old historical intolerance and bigotry in Europe, this time Islamophobia, the bigotry against minority European Muslims, and the lots of its countries that joined the American empire to go and slaughter innocent beings of other countries, I would have sworn Europe almost won the battle exorcising its dark past. But now with anti-Muslims bigotry blazing anew and getting worse by the minute, and Hitler left-overs rising up again all over Europe to hate and target-on on yet again another religious minority in Europe, I’m not so sure anymore. Is as if Europe is itching for another genocide of one of its religious minority, and that not even 80 years later. So indeed, Europe is at it again!!

But Steve even then with its poor history records, and the reheated hate for minorities all over the continent, I still have hopes for Europe, I believe it kind of learned some wise lessons from its dark past, at least I pray God it did, otherwise a repeat of its history would be devastating for Europe as whole, and the whole world by extension.

    Ciao!

how is it untrue or racist to accuse Europe of being intolerant… it has a long and colorful history of seeing itself as enlightened and everyone else as barbaric. it’s not exactly a place that has ever been known for its tolerance of internal diversity. in the Middle Ages, the Latin Christian thought of Europe divided the world into “saved” and “heathens”; in modern times, the secular humanistic thought of Europe divided the world into “liberal democracies” and “backward societies.” the cultural mores change, but the sense of sneering superiority remains the same. and let’s not forget that Europe created the notion of ethnic “nation-states,” exported it throughout the post-colonial globe along with all the accompanying racist/nationalist rhetoric, and has been the driving force behind dozens of “civil wars” in various countries. Europe also was the home to not one, but TWO genocides of millions of people in the 20th century alone.

  • Kyle

I think Steve should just admit that he wants to wipe out Muslims.
You’re not fooling anyone into thinking you’re not biased and hateful, go away.

  • NurAlia

After the French were liberated by free forces (and by the way, the Nazis called the French Resistance ‘terrorists’) and the western Allied forces…the French punished women who collaborated with the Nazis by shaving thier heads and parading them in the streets of the big cities…of course where they were cursed, beaten, humiliated in other ways among other things.

Since I remember people collaberating against thier neighbours for a murderous regime as a younger woman, selling out friends, neighbours, thier own relatives to be in the nice with the dictator…and what we had to do, and say, just to stay alive…I dont think this punishment was enough.

I can see those who ignore what the Free French had to go through to keep thier country, even under harsh occupation, to keep the freedoms, and liberty they have now for a political agenda need a haircut. I would love to give it to this woman.

  • Nilufer R Sage

    Neither do yours, Steve.

  • JD

Told you guys Spencer and Pam idea muslims support hitler needs to be stopped and facts pointed out from the start or this idea will become main steam and fact

  • Steve

@Nilifur, you are wrong and your false generalisations do you no favour at all.

  • Nilufer R Sage

Really, we cannot say Europe is at it again… that’s true. But then again, Europe never really stopped in the first place.

  • Steve

@Nilifur, I will leave that game to you.

My point is that some people on here are very keen to paint with a very broad brush when it comes to certain matters but in other matters they would be screaming “islamophobia” if anybody dared to say muslims were “at it again”

Talking of actresses I see some muslim actresses in Afghanistan have been murdered/received death threats from muslims – if I said “muslims are at it again” I would be rightly castigated on here so let’s make it a two way street shall we? Europe is not “at it again” despite the wishful thinking of some on here.

  • Nilufer R Sage

Ok Steve.. I wanna play a game!!! Name all the countries actively wiping out Muslims. Now name countries actively wiping out Christians. Now name all the countries actively wiping out any other religions. Oh… and I’m not asking for who the religious majority is. Just active killing. I look forward to the list!

  • Steve

“and just few decades later. Europe is at it again!”

And presumably Asia is busying itself in a sectarian bloodbath? I thought we didn’t like generalisations on here.

  • Géji

    “What is with europe sometimes??”

Whats up with Europe Mindy its the same thing that was up with Europe during the 1920′s, 30′s etc, try even further than that. Europe historically has proved itself to be mostly unwelcoming racist continent. we thought things will change finally and cool down after the two world wars and Hitler and all, but here we go again, the patterns continuing with vengeance than ever before, and just few decades later. Europe is at it again!

  • mjasghar

Lol has the dumbass forgotten about the Vichy who actively sent Jews to the gas chamber

  • MadHatter

which muslims? under Operation Dragoon liberation of Southern France, the Free French Forces Muslims and western Allies who kicked Nazi from french soil, see Algerians harki units

  • mindy1
