#MySubwayAd: People Respond To Anti-Islamic Subway Ads

This morning controversial pro-Israel, anti-Islamic ads went up on 10 locations in New York City subway stations. The ad, which was condemned by several Jewish groups, reads: “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad.” (While many understand jihad to reference war, its primary meaning is the inner struggle to be a Muslim). The ads are sponsored by polemical figure, Pamela Geller’s American Freedom Defense Initiative.

Muslim and non-Muslims alike took to Twitter today to denounce the Islamophobic ad. Their responses were both humorous and thoughtful. Below are some of our favorite tweets:

Savages are those sociopathic scoundrels without a sense of our common humanity, so feral in their speech & deeds.

The first Christian I ever talked to for a long period of time was on an airplane on our way to China from the US. We sat together for 13 hours sharing ourselves and discussing our faiths.

Just think, if either of us would have sat under a sign like faith defaming another. I would not have learned so much in so little time about the people of Christianity…and perhaps she would not have learned about Islam.

Unfortunatly, these signs are ment to keep the stupid…just stupid so that people like Pam Geller can continue to prosper as purveyors of hatred.
