Breaking: Boston Marathon Terrorist Bombings

Boston_Marathon_Bombing

*Despite the fact that there is no information regarding who was or might be behind the attacks we already have commenters blaming the attack on “Islamic Terrorists.”

Several bombs have rocked the finishing line of the Boston Marathon which is held every year on Patriots’ Day.

Patriots’ Day commemorates the anniversary of the first battles of the Revolutionary War at Lexington and Concord. I want to point out that Timothy McVeigh bombed the Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma two days after Patriot’s Day in 1995.

At that time much was made of so-called “Islamic terrorism” being behind the attacks with Steven Emerson infamously blaming the attack on Muslims while being interviewed by CNN.

Deadly explosions hit Boston Marathon in US

UPDATE V:
AlJazeera

Police say at least two people are dead and 23 injured after explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

A Rhode Island state police officer, who was running in the event, said on Monday he saw at least two dozen people with very serious injuries, including missing limbs.

Injured spectators were being carried to the medical tent that had been set up to care for fatigued runners.

The stragglers in the 40km trek were rerouted away from the smoking site of the blasts, as a Massachusetts General Hospital sokesperson said it had four patients from the incident under evaluation and was expecting more.

The White House said President Barack Obama had been notified about the incident and directed his administration to provide whatever assistance necessary for the investigation.

The explosion occurred about three hours after the winners crossed the line,as thousands of runners finished the 117th running of the Boston Marathon, with crowds watching and cheering at the finish.

Competitors and race organisers were crying as they fled the chaos. Bloody spectators were being carried to the medical tent that had been set up to care for fatigued runners.

“There are a lot of people down,” said one man, whose bib no 17528 identified him as Frank Deruyter.

He was not injured, but marathon workers were carrying one woman, who did not appear to be a runner, to the medical area as blood gushed from her leg.

A Boston police officer was wheeled from the course with a leg injury that was bleeding.

Neither race officials nor public officials could immediately estimate the number or degree of injuries, but the Globe reported at least 12 people were injured.

Runner Laura McLean of Toronto said she heard two explosions outside the medical tent.

“There are people who are really, really bloody,” McLean said. “They were pulling them into the medical tent.”

Loud explosion

About three hours after the winners crossed the line, there was a loud explosion on the north side of Boylston Street, just before the photo bridge that marks the finish line. Another explosion could be heard a few seconds later.

Smoke rose from the blasts, fluttering through the national flags lining the route of the world’s oldest and most prestigious marathon.

TV helicopter footage showed blood staining the pavement in the popular shopping and tourist area known as the Back Bay.

Boston Marathon organisers said the two bombs exploded near the finish line, but did not give an indication of the blasts.

“We are working with law enforcement to understand what exactly has happened,” the orgaisers said on the marathon’s Facebook page.

Cherie Falgoust was waiting for her husband, who was running the race, when the blasts went off.

“I was expecting my husband any minute,” she said.

“I don’t know what this building is … it just blew.

“Just a big bomb, a loud boom, and then glass everywhere.

“Something hit my head. I don’t know what it was. I just ducked.”

Runners who had not finished the race were diverted straight down Commonwealth Avenue and into a family meeting area, according to an emergency plan that had been in place.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this brutal bombing. Casualties are expected to increase.

Despite the fact that there is no information regarding who was or might be behind the attacks we already have commenters blaming the attack on “Islamic Terrorists.”

Robert Spencer was eager to blame the Mooslims despite no credible reports:

From the Associated Press:

A second person briefed on the investigation confirmed that at least one of the explosives was made out of a pressure cooker. Both spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation.

No, it doesn’t say any of the things you listed. Stop the lies.

  • Reynardine

    Explain why.

And according to the Bible, your skin is already full of maggots

  • GaribaldiOfLoonwatch

No worries about flooding me with replies, I saw the same report. We’ve been experiencing a lot of traffic and actually have been overwhelmed by the number of stories out there to cover. We will be playing catch-up for some time with the news.

Sorry for flooding you with replies Garibaldi, but i thought LW should check this article out when you have a chance,

Rights group says Myanmar’s minority Muslim group has been subjected to ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.

  • Razainc_aka_BigBoss

But that won’t stop the media you think they would wait till more facts become apparent but it seems they must talk about this 27/7

  • Reynardine

According to accounts in the UK Guardian, the known Chechen rebel groups deny having anything to do with Tamerlan Tsarnaev or his actions, state they don’t target unarmed civilians, and that they only blow up Russians, not Americans.

  • GaribaldiOfLoonwatch

Appreciate it. There have been some good articles and responses as well within the mix of all the bad.

  • GaribaldiOfLoonwatch

Sudden Jihad Syndrome sounds much like what that professor from CUNY I believe, said a few years ago, he characterized it as “Going Muslim,” like “Going postal.” Remember that?

There is going to be a lot to dissect in terms of how the media, left and right, politicians and general lay people have responded. I do think there are some more positive signs than in the past but there’s still a lot of sick crap out there.

  • Reynardine

    It’s important that we don’t.

  • Solid Snake

oooooh Alliteration! I am convinced that your argument is sound!

  • Solid Snake

Garibaldi, here is a nice opinion piece from a contributor to ALjazeera

  • Razainc_aka_BigBoss

This the real problem right are not tested during peace they are tested during conflict and a lot of times nations usually will fail

  • Reynardine

The application of the so-called” 48 hour exception” was dubious in that case anyway, but that time span is up, and he can’t talk. Declaring a U.S. citizen on American soil an “enemy combatant” is, outside a civil war, so Constitutionally egregious I hope no one is tempted to try it.

Federal public defenders are infinitely above their state counterparts in skill and dedication, and I suspect that an attempt to short-circuit due process like that would attract some high-powered legal organizations as well.

  • Razainc_aka_BigBoss

He should have been Mirandized because he could still be interrogated even after being Mirandized

Here’s a good article on this by Glenn Greenwald

What rights should Dzhokhar Tsarnaev get and why does it matter?

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/apr/20/boston-marathon-dzhokhar-tsarnaev-mirnada-rights

  • Reynardine

He evidently was not Mirandized, under the.48 hour exception, but he could say nothing in that time anyway, because he was shot through the throat and can’t talk. Whether his condition permitted any kind of written statement, I don’t know, but in view of his condition being “serious”, I suspect not.

For my part, if I had done such a thing, I would crave death, and I devoutly hope for a world where no promising young life goes wrong.

  • “Also I believe that the Russians are invested in this now that the possible ties to Chechnya have been revealed.”

The worst part about this is that Putin literally has Obama by the balls here. He mentioned early in the investigation that Russia would be willing to help the U.S. in any way possible to find out who the attackers were. Now that it’s been revealed they were apparently Chechen nationalists, it’s basically the biggest diplomatic coup that Putin could possibly get.

We’ll have to see what he does, but I have a feeling this doesn’t bode well at all for Chechnya – it’s a prestige point for Russia about trying to hold onto the little republic. If he wants to do something about it, well, what can Obama do? He’s been trying to patch up relations with Russia since he first got into office in 2008. If he supports it, he’s clamoring for aggressive Russian foreign policy and people are not going to like that at all. If he protests Russian actions, then he’s going to come off as “soft on terrorism” (though if it goes through, I guess hell would be pretty cold seeing the likes of Fox News, World Net Daily, etc. defending Putin…).

If something drastic happens, it’s a lose-lose situation.

  • Reynardine

Wherever there are Men, there will be Mass Murders, Mayhem, and Madness. It is the Male Mantra, Method, Modus Operandi, Modality, and Mortification of Multitudes. That’s statistically a lot more provable than what you said. Yet I expect most of the men I know to be decent human beings.
