EDL Recycles Antisemitic Propaganda

The EDL is known to be populated by many hooligans with affiliations and or allegiance to Neo-Nazi ideology and at times a barely concealed anti-Semitism.

For reasons of expediency and political exigency they have often taken the strategy of trumpeting an in your face fealty to Israel, regularly trotting out Israeli flags at their demonstrations, in the hopes of deflecting criticism that their xenophobia and bigotry may extend beyond Muslims. Mainstream Jewish organizations in the UK are appalled by the EDL and find the support extremists such as Pamela Geller, Roberta Moore and the “JDL” give to the EDL both disgusting and embarrassing.

In this vein, Bob Pitt of IslamophobiaWatch points our attention towards a quite blatant instance of the EDL literally recycling antisemitic propaganda in their Crusade against Islam and Muslims.

By Bob Pitt (Islamophobia-Watch)

For those who question the links between the English Defence League and fascism, or indeed the clear parallels between Islamophobia and antisemitism, this is a cartoon recently posted on the EDL London Division’s Facebook page.

EDL-Hey-Imam-cartoon

It is used to illustrate the conspiracy theory that graffiti featuring the letters EDL, which has proliferated on mosques and Islamic centres since the murder of Lee Rigby, is not the work of EDL supporters themselves but of Muslims intent on smearing the EDL.

As Exposing the English Defence League points out, the cartoon is in fact a clumsy adaptation of a cartoon popular in neo-Nazi and white supremacist circles, which portrays fascist graffiti on synagogues as part of a Jewish conspiracy to frame the far right.

    Well said.

Bananas are good for you. So are stars, but not for the same reason.

  • SarahAB

Yes, I agree that they help create an atmosphere which makes attacks on Muslims more likely.

“To be fair, not all supporters would support violence against Muslims although many attacks on Muslims involve EDL supporters…”

EDL is an organization that creates the environment for the attacks against Muslims and then says nothing to denounce those attacks. In essence, they are supporting the violence with their silence.

Also, with cartoons like these, they are creating an environment for those attacks to occur against Jews and Muslims. By dehumanizing them first, you are making it easier for people to justify their attacks.

Don’t forget the fact that the symbol most commonly associated with Islam is no longer a crescent and star, but instead Pac-Man and a star.

Or at least a Neo Nazi website

  • SarahAB

I commend Emperor’s careful introduction to this post, which correctly observes that some EDL supporters cynically make use of a show of supporting Israel to deflect criticism – maybe also to wind up Muslims. But although some are cynical and a few undoubtedly antisemitic, equal ops bigots, I doubt most of them want to see a second Holocaust. To be fair, not all supporters would support violence against Muslims although many attacks on Muslims involve EDL supporters, and their social media is awash with hateful, inflammatory discourse.

This looks like the image of “jew” that came out of Nazi Germany!
    Sickening!

  • Reynardine

In fact, when they altered the headgear on the “Imam”, they left the shadow of the “rabbi’s” hat. You’re right, this isn’t just an imitation

  • Nisr Dimashq

Yeah I know, but there’s no way they can use the excuse “it’s just a coincidence” because it’s literally the exact same anti-Semitic cartoon just with some poor edits. Here they literally admit that they’re anti-Semites by using what they know is anti-Semitic propaganda.

  • CriticalDragon1177

Its also very symbolic of how similar Islamophobia and antisemetism actually are.

  • Nisr Dimashq

If you look closely you can see that it’s actually the EXACT same cartoon, just with minor edits. The Imam has the exact same nose and cloak as the Rabbi, and the word “Imam” is poorly written over after the word “Rabbi” was whited out. They KNOW they’re recycling anti-Semitic propaganda. What a pathetic shame.

  • CriticalDragon1177

People by now in general should know better, but unfortunately we still haven’t learned.

  • Reynardine

Given that a lot of their propaganda tracks Goebbels and Streicher almost word for word, a lot more people should have noticed it a lot sooner.

Christopher Wade Briggs, Armed Gunman Outside White House, Was ‘Only Going To Fire A Couple Of Shots’

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/18/christopher-wade-briggs-white-house_n_3619544.html

WASHINGTON– A shirtless man arrested on Tuesday near the White
House with a loaded handgun and two knives told officers he was,
according to court documents, “only going to fire a couple of shots if
no one confronted me,” NBC4 Washington reports.

Christopher Wade Briggs also reportedly had a container of alcohol at the time of his arrest, which was precipitated when, according to The Hill, a Secret Service officer “allegedly saw him take a .45-calibur handgun out of his backpack and attach it to his belt.”

Briggs, who is from Texas, was arrested in Layayette Park, just north of the White House. WUSA9 reports
that the charges immediately brought against him after the arrest
include carrying a pistol without a license, two counts of possession of
prohibited weapons, possession of an unregistered firearm, possession
of unregistered ammunition and possession of an unopened alcohol
    container.

Not surprising that haters should associate with haters :( I am also ashamed when I see Jews associate with haters-they should know better :((

  • Jon Diamond

How stupid is Pamela Gellar to join forces with a group that probably would enjoy seeing a 2nd holocaust of Jews?

Anyway, anytime I see the EDL on TV, I am reminded of that film with Sohail Khan called, ‘I Proud to be an Indian’. It is a Bollywood film about Indians being harassed by skinheads.

  • CriticalDragon1177

    Emperor,

None of us should be surprised by this. Yet again, the EDL proves to the world that they’re bigots.
