Washington DC: Geller is back with another anti-Islam Metro ad

In 2012, anti-Islam blogger Pamela Geller’s American Freedom Defense Initiative funded ads throughout the Metro system with a quote from the Quran next to a photo of the burning Twin Towers. Ads that cost Metro $35,000 over a failed effort to block them.

Now she’s back with another awful ad, this one claiming that “Islamic jew-hatred” is “in the Quran” as a response to an ad about “Israel’s occupation” from the American Muslims for Palestine. From Geller’s blog:

The DC Metro transit authority made multiple demands for the substantiation of every claim in our ads before they would accept the ad, and I, of course, happily provided that substantiation. The libelous American Muslims for Palestine antisemitic ad (below) did not have to provide substantiation. The MTA had no problem with their antisemitism. And you cannot provide evidence of a smear and a bigoted lie. But it is proof of the AMP’s hate.

Our ads are in response to the vicious Jew-hating ads that American Muslims for Palestine unleashed on Washington, DC Metro buses last month. And might I add, had we not sued and won in NYC and DC for violating our First Amendment rights when they tried to refuse our previous ads, our ads might never have gone up.

Because of the 2012 court ruling stating that Geller’s ads are protected speech, a Metro spokesperson said they declined to challenge them this time around. But they do sport the disclaimer: “This is a paid advertisement sponsored by the American Freedom Defense Initiative. Advertising space is a designated public forum and does not imply WMATA’s endorsement of any views expressed.”

For the uninitiated, here’s a description of Geller from the Southern Poverty Law Center, which labeled her Stop Islamization of America foundation a hate group:

Pamela Geller is the anti-Muslim movement’s most visible and flamboyant figurehead. She’s relentlessly shrill and coarse in her broad-brush denunciations of Islam and makes preposterous claims, such as that President Obama is the “love child” of Malcolm X. She makes no pretense of being learned in Islamic studies, leaving the argumentative heavy lifting to her Stop Islamization of America partner Robert Spencer. Geller has mingled comfortably with European racists and fascists, spoken favorably of South African racists, defended Serbian war criminal Radovan Karadzic and denied the existence of Serbian concentration camps. She has taken a strong pro-Israel stance to the point of being sharply critical of Jewish liberals.

    An article devoid of arguments.
So what part about islam that AFDI has published is unsubstantiated?
Ah, to do such research and analysis would be real journalism.
    Not fit for these pages.

I’m not feeling judged, you have explicitly passed judgement on me, which you have no right to do! as I have said, I don’t deal with people who lack respect, I have been on this site for a long time now and never once interacted with you because it is clear that you lack the self decency to hold a respectful conversation, there is a reason why your comments require moderation!

So I say to you, again, goodbye! when you learn to interact with people in a respectful manner then comment on any of my future posts, until then, peace be with you!

I’m not Pakistani and you know nothing about me so don’t presume to have the right to judge me. As I said, I refuse to deal with someone who lacks even a modicum of respect for the people they are talking to. Goodbye!

You haven’t actually responded to anything I said and instead just repeated pretty much to a tee what you said in the last post. Put it this way, if a 5 year old Pakistani girl sees a female president in her country, does she think what a horrible woman that must be or does she think if she can succeed why can’t I? You can call Pakistani democracy whatever you want, it doesn’t really matter since there is no such thing as democracy anywhere in the world, but that doesn’t make.a female becoming president any less of a positive for little girls in said country!

You have misrepresented my points from the beginning (I never said she is the greatest female role model, the word before it in that sentence makes a big difference, yet you continue to make it seem like I think she is the best politician in the world even in your last post), and been pretty disrespectful in the way you discuss things, so this will the last time I communicate with you.

You’ve definitely been deceived, and you wont be changing anyone’s mind if a corrupt traitor like Benazir Bhutto is the best example you could come up with. You honestly think people don’t know her track record? No honest person would model themselves after crooks such because of the illusion of power. Young women aren’t stupid to be swayed by the likes of such criminals just because of sharing the same gender. Dynastic politics(or any politics for that matter) has nothing to do with equality.

  • Tarig Musa

I haven’t been deceived at all, you just haven’t understood my point. Most women don’t want to get in to politics, and don’t want to do wrong, they want to be treated as equals. Seeing a woman in a position of power in a male dominated industry in a male dominated country gives young women a belief that they can achieve things without having to depend on their looks or sexuality. If in your eyes that is a bad thing then there is nothing I can say that will change your mind.

You’ve been deceived by Feminist window shopping. What makes you think she “overcame obstacles” and worked her way to the top? Benazir was the offspring of the Bhutto crime family, privileged, never worked a day in her life, and practically inherited her way into office. Dynastic politics at its worst. At least her father Zulfikar had some leadership qualities and could actually speak the national language of the country. Benazir robbed Pakistan during both her terms in office, and her husband, the infamous Mr.10% did even worse taking corruption to new heights, and guess what? Her pathetic, pampered son Bilawal has been made the head of the PPP despite being totally unqualified. And some wonder I refer to Pakistan as a banana republic.

The only thing Benazir and other female “leaders” in Muslim nations(Tansu Ciller, Khaleda Zia, Sheikh Hasina) proved are that women can just as just deceptive, corrupt, incompetent as their male counterparts.
