Rick Scott Says Allen West Would Make ‘Great’ Lieutenant Governor

Posted on 16 May 2013 by Amago

Former Rep. Allen West is being touted by Florida Gov. Rick Scott as a potential pick for lieutenant governor.

Former Rep. Allen West is being touted by Florida Gov. Rick Scott as a potential pick for lieutenant governor.

Florida politics continues its resemblance to the fantasy world of Walt Disney.

Does Rick Scott think throwing Allen West out there as a candidate for Lieutenant Governor will possibly resuscitate his hopes for re-election?

Rick Scott Says Allen West Would Make ‘Great’ Lieutenant Governor

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) opened the door to a comeback for former Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) Friday, saying he’d be a “great” pick for his second in command.

Scott told AM Tampa Bay on WFLA radio Friday that he believes West would be a good pick to fill the lieutenant governor’s office, vacated in March by former Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll (R). Scott has indicated he will name Carroll’s successor soon, and had planned to wait until after the state Legislature adjourned last week.

Scott told WFLA that he had not settled on a pick for lieutenant governor, but then praised West, saying that the former congressman “is a great American and a great patriot … he’d be a great lieutenant governor.”

Carroll resigned in March after meeting with FBI investigators regarding previous lobbying work she had done for an internet cafe company in the state. Under the terms of the Florida constitution, Scott can name Carroll’s successor for the remainder of the term, which expires in January 2015.

But West and Scott have had a turbulent relationship in recent months, with the staunchly conservative West criticizing Scott’s endorsement of accepting federal funds to expand Florida’s Medicaid program under the federal health care reform law. Scott was one of several GOP governors to make such an endorsement, but the GOP-controlled state Legislature did not pass the Medicaid expansion. Yet West criticized Scott’s decision, noting that the tea party opposed the move and that most Republican governors had rejected expanding Medicaid.

West said the choice had people asking where Scott’s “backbone” was. Yet in March, West backed Scott for reelection next year.

Scott’s pick for lieutenant governor would likely be his running mate in 2014. He is facing an uphill reelection campaign, with only a third of Floridians saying that he should win a second term.

Florida’s lieutenant governor has no official duties except taking over in the event of Scott leaving office before his term expires. Carroll handled aerospace and military issues for Scott. Only two lieutenant governors, Democrats Wayne Mixson and Buddy MacKay, succeeded to the governorship, both for brief terms. The office would give West, who lost a 2012 congressional bid, a statewide platform to resume his political career.

As for potential Scott picks for lieutenant governor, the Miami Herald in March named state Sen. Anitere Flores of Miami, state Reps. Doug Holder of Sarasota and Jimmy Patronis of Panama City, and Miami-Dade County School Board member Raquel Regaldo.

Allen West “NUTS!” Letter Sold for $2,625 on eBay

Posted on 23 January 2013 by Emperor

CAIR-Florida sold the strangest Congressional letter ever for $2,625 which they will put towards educating the public on Islam and Muslims as well as working for civil liberties.

The following report also points out that West had no trouble finding a nice gig with the Aubrey Chernick funded Pajama’s Media corporation.

Allen West “NUTS!” Letter Sold for $2,625 on eBay

The Council on American-Islamic Relations Florida announced Tuesday that a letter in which then-Congressman Allen West wrote “NUTS!” sold on eBay for $2,625.

The eBay listing shows West’s brief note from Aug. 4, 2011, addressed to Nezar Hamze and Hassan Shibly of CAIR Florida. They had sent the South Florida congressman a letter that July expressing their concerns about his association and support of individuals they said “have been identified as anti-Islam extremist(s),” and urging West to cut his ties with them.

“I am writing to you with regard your recent letter: ‘NUTS!’” West responded, CAIR said.

The letter concluded with the words “Steadfast and Loyal” above West’s signature, name and title.

West still has not fully explained his meaning, CAIR said.

“We are taught in Islam to meet a bad deed with a good deed. So we turned Allen West’s bad deed into 2,625 good deeds. We thank Allen West for his ‘NUTS’!” CAIR said in a statement Tuesday. “Every penny of these monies will be used to enhance understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.”

West, a one-term tea party congressman, lost the November election in a close and contentious race to Democrat Patrick Murphy in the 18th Congressional District, which includes northern Palm Beach County and parts of Martin and St. Lucie counties. West challenged the results before conceding two weeks later.

PJ Media recently announced that West had joined the company as its “director of Next Generation programming” and will host an online television show, “Next Generation Today.”

There was no way to leave a phone message for West at PJ Media Tuesday, and phone numbers on his campaign website were not in service.

The eBay auction’s winner is a Stockton, California resident that CAIR Florida identified by his screen name, decem4444.

The former history teacher said in the statement that he supports CAIR’s “positive and proactive efforts to fight irrational Islamophobia, and I am glad to make a token contribution toward that goal.”

Allen West Helping Raise Funds For Islam, What A Nice Guy

by Rich Abdil (Wonkette)

Last summer, then-as-yet-undefeated-congressman Allen West took his whirlwind American diplomacy tour to the Council on American Islamic Relations, which sent him a letter asking him
Read more at  to distance himself from the prominent Islamophobes he’d been palling around with. West, seeing an opportunity for prejudice-fueled grandstanding, sent a response to CAIR: It said, simply, “NUTS.”

You may have forgotten this, on account of one asinine Allen West military reference kind of blends in with the rest. BUT! That letter, in addition to reminding us that literally anyone can get himself some congressional stationery if he appeals to the right Christians, is now doing some good: It’s raising money for CAIR, which will go toward either defending civil rights or building car bombs, depending on whom you ask. Maybe even both!

What appears to be the South Florida chapter of CAIR is auctioning off the “NUTS!” letter, and right now it’s 12 bids in and going for more than $2,200 — a small sum compared to compensation being afforded to CAIR in superdense piles of schadenfreude, but still, not chump change for a piece of paper! Check this, from the eBay listing:

Up for Auction is one of the shortest Congressional Letters ever written in US History! This is the ORIGINAL LETTER on Official US Congressional Stationary signed by Allen West himself! This item has something for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you are a die-hard member of the Tea Party, Democratic Party, or protect the Civil Rights of Americans; this item is perfect for your collection.

Tea Party- This letter is signed by your fearless Rock Star! If you win this auction you will have signed documented proof that Allen West stood up in the face of your “EVIL” to protect the US (A “Judeo-Christian” Nation) from the Muslims. Your collection can’t go without this item.

Members of the Democratic Party- This letter represents the accomplishment of Democratic Party’s victory over Allen West. Allen West’s firebrand of politics often came with blanket insults towards Democrats with no regard of Congressional Fellowship or Respect.

So there you go! You’ve got until Jan. 17 to bid, if you have a few thousand dollars lying around. You never know, though — congressional letters from West might lose value if he keeps sending them. OH WAIT HE LOST. Haaaaahahaha sorry Allen, good luck finding a job in this economy, which you totally helped save by holding Creeping Sharia hearings during the debt ceiling “crisis.” Maybe CAIR needs a lobbyist?

2012: A Year of Islamophobia in Review

Posted on 02 January 2013 by Garibaldi

Islamophobia2012

by Garibaldi

Before writing about the “year in review,” it’s important to note that the clock on Islamophobia didn’t begin on January 1, 2012. There are many who have just recently become familiar with Islamophobia, i.e. the irrational fear of Islam and Muslims and hence they may not be familiar with the context of the contemporary malaise we find ourselves in.

While the roots of Euro-American anti-Muslim rage can be traced to an older trans-historical phenomenon of constructing identity through multiple processes of otherization, for our purposes the past few years are enough to provide a beneficial contextual layout. 2010 was dubbed the “Year of Islamophobia” for its unprecedented rise in anti-Muslim hate, most explosively witnessed in the ginned up Cordoba Mosque/Park51 (aka “Ground Zero” Mosque) controversy as well as the increased circulation of irrational conspiracies regarding Islam and the Muslim presence in the so-called “West.” The breakthrough was that the Right would try to transform Islam into political football–just another concept to be used to stoke fears and the “culture wars,”

In the United States we saw the convergence and solidifying of a network of Islamophobes across the nation who joined arms with their brethren across the Atlantic ocean. We were also treated to the Republican party’s instrumentalization and usage of Islam for purposes of fear-mongering during the the run-up to the 2010 elections; add to this mosque controversies, hate crimes, anti-Muslim rallies and your run of the mill nuke Mecca suggestion and you had 2010.

2011 was a year that saw a continuation of the efforts of Islamophobes who sought to garner national attention any way they could. The Peter King McCarthyist hearings on the threat of Radical Islam amongst Muslim Americans was an effort to create undue suspicion of Muslim Americans while at the same time feeding the culture wars of “Shariah hysteria,” “War on Terror,” and “creeping Islamization.” Major victories included the revelations of the funders and backers of the Islamophobia Movement in the seminal Fear, Inc. report, as well as the AP’s uncovering of the NYPD’s dubious spying program on Muslim Americans. Sadly, the tragedy of Utoya and Oslo punctuated the deadly and horrific consequences of the hateful trans-Atlantic Islamophobia Movement, overshadowing efforts against the industry of hate.

2012

The Afghanistan war trudged along as did the drone war which was amplified and contributed to the Greater Islamophobia. Killing innocent, faceless, nameless and uncounted civilians in the pursuit of AlQaeda and the Taliban in undeclared wars in Yemen, Pakistan and Somalia. In the process our civil liberties have been eroded through the NDAA, US citizens may be killed and held in indefinite detention by our Noble Peace Prize winning Constitutional lawyer President, who is now serving as judge, jury and and executioner. On this the mainstream Right and Left seem to be in agreement: We are supposed to trust him dontchyaknow!? Of course, don’t expect any blowback! Eviscerating innocent civilian Muslims from the skies and other covert-ops have always had positive results in the past.

Oh, and the MEK, you know the first group that our State Department ever designated a “foreign terrorist organization,” you know the one we were funding and from whom prominent politicians were receiving money (i.e. material support) and training and sending to assassinate Iranian nuclear scientists, well, it’s like magic–they aren’t terrorists anymore!

Spencer Ackerman of Wired.com, a website that ironically has investments in drone technology revealed that Anti-Islam courses were being taught in the US military including the idea that we are “at war with Islam.”

Globally, Anti-Muslim violence flared up in the predominantly Buddhist nations of Sri Lanka and Myanmar where Islamophobia has led to scenes reminiscent of the genocide perpetrated against Bosnian Muslims during the mid-1990′s. Thousands of Rohingyas have been killed and hundreds of thousands displaced; the conflict itself does not seem to be abating. Europe has seen tremendous levels of Islamophobia against Muslims in the form of organized attacks on mosques, vandalisms, legislation against veiling, controversies over halal products and of course political parties all over the continent that hold anti-Islam/Muslim policies as cornerstones of their agendas.

Domestically, the Islamic bogeyman, the “Green menace” was still alive and well. Rep.Peter King continued his anti-Muslim hearings. The Republican presidential primary debates were like watching the Islamophobic movie Obsession on an endless loop as the GOP hopefuls tried to out-crazy one another to the top post. Sen.Dick Durbin aptly described the Republican primaries, “Now, listen to these Republican candidates for president. They’re at war with Islam.”

Hate crimes didn’t depreciate but remained high according to the SPLC even by the notoriously understated counts of the FBI. It was revealed that Joshua Scaggs stabbed a “Muslim looking man” to “save his country.” Muslims were targeted in New York in a wave of firebombings by a man who wanted to kill “as many Muslims and Arabs as possible.” Arsons, vandalisms and attacks on Mosques and Muslims (or Muslim looking people) were regular features of 2012 LoonViolence. Randolph Linn admitted that he set fire to a Toledo, Ohio Mosque because of what he learned about Muslims “from Fox News.” Shariah hysteria was still being aggressively pushed in the legislatures of some states though in general it saw a retreat.

Robert Spencer refused to debate Danios, finding one excuse after another and another and another. Instead Spencer and Geller continued to use the name of the slain Jessica Mokdad for a conference on the so-called threat of US based “Islamic honor killings,” against the wishes of Mokdad’s bereaved family. At a CPAC panel hosted by AFDI/SIOA, Geller and Spencer’s pal James Lafferty expressed how “proud” he was that most attacks against mosques occur in the South. Geller and Spencer got media attention out of their hate ads comparing Muslims and Arabs to Savages though the attention was overwhelmingly negative.

Eric Allen Bell (aka. Eric Edborg) transformed from documenting hate against the Murfreesboro Mosque to actively participating in it, becoming in the process a pliant and subservient JihadWatch Zombie who regularly engages in the new found hobby of calling for the nuking of Mecca. He eventually decided to take, as he put it, a “sabbatical from my jihad against jihad,” after he, Spencer and Jamie Glazov essentially got roasted in a 3 on 1 debate against a Muslim apologist by the name of Nadir Ahmad.

Brigitte Gabriel spent part of 2012 comparing Muslims to Hitler. The Daily Show skewered the buffoonish Joe “Nuke ‘em” Kafuman who has been relegated to the extremities of irrelevance. Andrew Breitbart kicked the bucket but his “Big” blogs are still going strong.

The Strange phenomenon of well known Muslims being detained at the airport on suspicion of terrorism, such as Shahrukh Khan, Imran Khan and Mohammed “Mo” Farah by oblivious border guards continued. Kevin Forts, a US admirer of the terrorist Anders Breivik penned a letter to his hero who is now serving time in an IKEA furnished Norwegian retreat prison after being declared sane.

Anti-Loons

2012 was also a year in which Islamophobic politicians lost big, most humorously Allen West was kicked to the curb by Floridians. Also losing were Adam Hasner, Joe Walsh, Charles Fuqua and Chip Cravaack, and while Barack Obama’s re-election is not going to change much in the long term it did stave off the possibility of a Mitt Romney presidency that would include the likes of “Rudy Giuliani, John Bolton, Walid Phares and others who are intimately tied with the Islamophobia movement.”

There were many manifestations of hope against hate as well as efforts for peace and reconciliation between communities. The year saw the story of a “synagogue in a mosque,” Sikhs rallying en masse against the EDL in Leicester, an Imam and a Pastor who used to lead opposing militias joining forces to teach and achieve peace in Nigeria, Pakistan’s deputy attorney general traveling to the Amritsar Golden Temple to clean the shoes of worshippers, Israelis sending Iranians messages of love and calling on their leaders not to go to war, the #MyJihad campaign to reclaim the concept of “Jihad” from Muslim and anti-Muslim extremists alike, CriticalDragon spoke to us about his journey out of Islamophobic darkness and Coughli616 won the internets.

What if they were Muslim?

2012 was also a year that saw many instances of “what if they were Muslim?” A series that we created to point out the obvious fact that all the crimes that are uniquely attributed to “Islam and Muslims” are in fact also carried out by members of other faiths–sometimes uniquely.

Some quick samples: GOP lawmaker calls for bringing back public hangings for abortion providers, Rick Santorum expressed his disgust at the separation of Church and state believing that the Church should have a roll in the operation of government, witch-hunts, forced conversionsterrorism, iconoclasm and calling on Gays to be killed off–all from members of non-Muslim religious traditions.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I must point out that this review article is far from comprehensive–I just barely scratched the surface of Islamophobia in 2012. The jailing of the EDL leadership, the floundering of the BFP, the proliferation of the “Innocence of Muslims” movie and so much more would require at least seven more paragraphs in themselves.

Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t give a special shout out to Loonwatchers, who have been patient throughout this past year and stuck with us despite technical mishaps and a new comment system. It really is all of you who make this site special and worth posting articles and continuing documenting, exposing and repelling the anti-Muslim bigots.

Your tips, advice and debates are an important contribution to the fight against those who are ardent to create division and civilizational/cultural conflict. We promise in 2013 to also come through on some of the planned changes to make the site more navigable and for easy access to some of our lengthy series and rebuttals.

One Factor in the Defeat of Allen West: High Muslim Turnout

Posted on 26 November 2012 by Emperor

A belated post but a necessary one.: (h/t: hsmoghul)

LEADING ISLAMOPHOBE ALLEN WEST LIKELY DEFEATED DUE TO HIGH MUSLIM AMERICAN TURNOUT

(Progressive Change)

Yesterday, right-wing House Republican Allen West finally conceded in his race against Democrat Patrick Murphy. West had made himself notorious for his anti-Muslim attitude. He argued that Islam is “not a faith” but a “totalitarian theocratic political ideology,” and that terrorism is inherent to Islam. He even said that Muslim congressman Keith Ellison (D) of “represent(ing) the antithesis of the principles upon which this country was established.”

But in an America that grows increasingly progressive and tolerant, bigotry can be a major electoral liability. Murphy’s margin of victory is roughly 1,900 votes. I talked to Imran Siddiqui, who works for the organization Empowering Motivating Educating Resourceful Grassroots Entities, which registers Muslim voters in the area. He mentioned that his organization had 2,500 Muslim voters in their database in the district and that they witnessed 80 percent turnout. That means roughly 2,000 Muslim-American votes — a little bit higher than Murphy’s margin of victory.

West’s loss should be a lesson to all those in Congress who would try to use bigotry to their political advantage. Sometimes the targets of your ire get out and vote, and when they do, you lose.

David Yerushalmi: Pamela Geller’s anti-democracy lawyer & “SION” senior member exposed: The facts

Posted on 13 November 2012 by Guest

Original article by Jai Singh

I have recently come across some major information regarding a pivotal member of Robert Spencer & Pamela Geller’s inner circle, specifically David Yerushalmi. The main cross-published article below is from the Center for American Progress think-tank, although I’ve also included URL links for extensive further information about Yerushalmi at the end of this article. It certainly explains a lot. It is also very revealing indeed about the core anti-Muslim propagandists’ endgame.

Along with being Pamela Geller’s laywer, David Yerushalmi is a senior member of Spencer & Geller’s Stop Islamization of Nations/”SION” organisation. Yerushalmi was even one of the main speakers at Spencer & Geller’s anti-Muslim conference in New York in September 2012 (Geller enthusiastically provided video footage on her Atlas Shrugs website here).

David Yerushalmi is also General Counsel for Frank Gaffney’s Center for Security Policy organisation, which has had a considerable influence on certain senior Republican politicians, particularly their wild claims about “extremist Muslim infiltration” in the Obama Administration. According to the New York Times, Gaffney is “Yerushalmi’s primary link to a network of former and current government officials, security analysts and grass-roots political organizations” and is also able to tap “a network of Tea Party and Christian groups as well as ACT! for America, which has 170,000 members”.

There is, however, much more. As the main article below (and the subsequent URL links) discusses, David Yerushalmi has tried to conceal a huge amount of self-incriminating information from the public. Not only are his racial and religious views self-evident, but it also raises several further questions:

1. Exactly why is Pamela Geller allying herself so closely with someone who believes that American women should not have the right to vote ?

2. Yerushalmi heads an organisation (Society of Americans for National Existence/”SANE”) whose charter explicitly states that it is “dedicated to the rejection of democracy” in the United States. It is worth noting that such actions are defined as sedition, a major offence under multiple Federal laws: See here, here, here, and here. Why is Yerushalmi not being prosecuted for sedition ?

3. Exactly who are the members of Yerushalmi’s anti-democracy “Society of Americans for National Existence” organisation, and to what extent have they penetrated the United States’ educational, legal, and political systems, government, intelligence, the media, and US military ?

4. Considering the fact that Yerushalmi heads an organisation explicitly dedicated to the rejection of democracy in the United States, why have the relevant authorities not stripped Yerushalmi of his license to practice law ?

5. To what extent are Robert Spencer, Pamela Geller and David Horowitz involved in furthering Yerushalmi’s anti-democracy agenda ?

6. Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller are also closely allied to John Bolton, the former US ambassador to the UN; Bolton was Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s senior foreign policy advisor during his campaign. As publicised by Geller, Bolton was even originally scheduled to be one of the main speakers alongside Yerushalmi at the SION conference in New York in September 2012. Bolton has also appeared on Frank Gaffney’s radio show in order to defend the aforementioned claims that extremist Muslims have “infiltrated” the US Government. To what extent is John Bolton involved in furthering Yerushalmi’s anti-democracy agenda ?

7. Following on from #6, is John Bolton himself a member of Yerushalmi’s “Society of Americans for National Existence” organisation ?

8. Following on from #6 and #7, to what extent is Mitt Romney aware of all this ?

9. The other main guests & speakers alongside Yerushalmi at the SION conference in New York in September 2012 included New York State Senator David Storobin, English Defence League leader Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (aka “Tommy Robinson”, also see here, here, here, and here), English Defence League co-founder/British Freedom Party deputy leader Kevin Carroll, and British Freedom Party leader Paul Weston. To what extent are they aware of Yerushalmi’s anti-democracy agenda ?

10. To what extent are Frank Gaffney (also see here) and his Center for Security Policy organisation involved in furthering Yerushalmi’s anti-democracy agenda ? (Note: The CSP link includes extensive details of the organisation’s main financiers, board members, military committee members, and academic council members. The information about the level of involvement of extremely senior [and well-connected] former military officers and major weapons manufacturers is particularly startling).

11. To what extent are Newt Gingrich (also see here and here), Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), Rep. Peter King (R-NY) (also see here), Rep. Allen West (R-FL), Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ), Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI), Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), Rep. Thomas Rooney (R-FL), Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA), and other anti-Muslim members of Congress aware of Yerushalmi’s anti-democracy agenda ?

12. Peter King, previously known for his active support of the terrorist IRA, is currently Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, and is also a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He has appeared on Frank Gaffney’s radio show, where he made a series of demonstrably false statements about American Muslims. More recently, Peter King has received an award from Gaffney’s Center for Security Policy organisation. Why is the Chairman of Homeland Security accepting an award from an organisation whose General Counsel is dedicated to the rejection of democracy in the United States ?

13. To what extent are Congress, the Department of Homeland Security, and American intelligence agencies aware of the fact that several of the senior politicians listed in #11 have demanded action based on dubious material from an organisation whose General Counsel is dedicated to the rejection of democracy in the United States ?

14. To what extent are Congress, the Department of Homeland Security, and American intelligence agencies aware of the fact that a disproportionate number of the senior politicians listed in #11 have direct links to the same fundamentalist Christian organisation dedicated to influencing American politicians ? Further to the recent US presidential election, updated details of some of these politicians and their activities are available here, here, and here.

15. To what extent are Congress, the Department of Homeland Security, and American intelligence agencies aware of the fact that several recent Republican presidential candidates, including one of the senior politicians listed in #11 (who is also a member of the House Intelligence Committee), have extensive links to “Dominionism” ? (Note: Dominionism is an extreme interpretation of Christian fundamentalism deriving from “Christian Reconstructionism”, which involves the belief that rule by non-Christians anywhere in the world is sacrilege, explicitly approves of the historical slavery of African-Americans, and openly advocates the replacement of American law with Old Testament injunctions including the death penalty for apostasy and homosexuality; Dominionism also claims that its adherents have a God-given mandate to infiltrate the highest echelons of power and subsequently impose their beliefs on the entire world).

16. Yerushalmi has also proposed a range of measures targeting Muslims in the United States (see ThinkProgress article below). If Yerushalmi and his main allies were given free rein to implement these measures, exactly what criteria would they use in order to identify someone as a “suspected Muslim” or a “known Muslim” ?

17. Following on from #16, exactly what measures would Yerushalmi propose in order to conclusively prove that someone is (or is not) a Muslim ?

18. Exactly what actions would Yerushalmi describe as “knowingly acting in furtherance of, or supporting the, adherence to Islam” ?

19. Considering the fact that Yerushalmi, Geller and Spencer publicly claim to be such staunch supporters of the concept of “freedom of speech” and refer to this concept when justifying their own actions, why do they keep threatening to sue people who exercise their own freedom of speech against them ?

The original ThinkProgress article is cross-published in full below:

Neocon ‘Team B’ Author Yerushalmi: ‘Islam Was Born In Violence; It Will Die That Way’

I wrote last week that the new “Team B” report from neoconservative activist Frank Gaffney’s Center for Security Policy on the threat of Islamic sharia law is notable for, among other things, the fact that its authors consulted with no actual Muslims or Islamic scholars in writing it.

A key “expert” behind the report’s interpretation of Islamic law is a man named David Yerushalmi. In addition to running a DC law practice, Yerushalmi serves as General Counsel of the Center for Security Policy. Yerushalmi is also a contributor to Andrew Breitbart’s Big Peace. On his law office website, Yerushalmi claims to be “considered an expert on Islamic law.”

The release of the sharia report was hailed last week by three leading Congressional conservatives — Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ), Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI), and Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN) — so it’s worth looking into what one the report’s key contributors actually believes about Muslims and Islam.

Here’s what Yerushalmi wrote in the American Thinker in 2006:

”Islam was born in violence; it will die that way. Any wish to the contrary is sheer Pollyannaism. The same way the post World War II German youth were taught by their German teachers and political leaders to despise the fascism of their fathers, with strict laws extant still today restricting even speech that casts doubt on the Holocaust, so too must the Muslim youth be taught from the cradle to reject the religion of their forebears.”

Yerushalmi also wrote in 2006 that the Muslim Brotherhood “has succeeded in penetrating our educational, legal, and political systems, as well as top levels of government, intelligence, the media, and U.S. military, virtually paralyzing our ability to respond effectively.” He criticized President Bush for his “fatal, but well-intentioned ideological whim to build democracies among a ruthless people who believe in a murderous creed falsely labeled a ‘religion of peace.‘”

Yerushalmi heads an organization called Society of Americans for National Existence (SANE), whose charter — now hidden behind a paywall but shared here by Talk to Action’s Brian Wilson — states:

“America is a unique people bound together through a commitment to America’s Judeo-Christian moral foundation and to an enduring faith and trust in G-d and in His Providence… America was the handiwork of faithful Christians, mostly men, and almost entirely white, who ventured from Europe to create a nation in their image of a country existing as free men under G-d. The founding fathers understood that party-led parliaments and democracy were the worse form of government and sought to resist the movement that was soon to find fertile ground in France with the French Revolution…

…at its core, SANE is dedicated to the rejection of democracy and party rule and a return to a constitutional republic…

…Any world view, ideology, or -ism that promotes directly or indirectly the elimination of national existence and the establishment of a world state is our foe. So you can know at the start that liberalism (and this includes libertarianism) and Islam are in our sights.”

Yerushalmi’s group suggests the following measures for dealing with America’s Muslim problem:

“- It shall be a felony punishable by 20 years in prison to knowingly act in furtherance of, or to support the, adherence to Islam.
- The Congress of the United States of America shall declare the US at war with the Muslim Nation or Umma.

- The President of the United States of America shall immediately declare that all non-US citizen Muslims are Alien Enemies under Chapter 3 of Title 50 of the US Code and shall be subject to immediate deportation.
- No Muslim shall be granted an entry visa into the United States of America.”

Unsurprisingly, Yerushalmi’s antipathies extend beyond Muslims. In a 2006 article, “On Race: A Tentative Discussion” [Note: Despite Yerushalmi's efforts to destroy the online evidence, his full article in PDF form can still be accessed directly here] — tentative because, as Yerushalmi laments in the article, one cannot engage in “a discussion of Islam as an evil religion, or of blacks as the most murderous of peoples (at least in New York City), or of illegal immigrants as deserving of no rights” without being labeled a racist — Yerushalmi writes that the American founders were on to something when they limited the vote to white men:

“There is a reason the founding fathers did not give women or black slaves the right to vote. You might not agree or like the idea but this country’s founders, otherwise held in the highest esteem for their understanding of human nature and its affect on political society, certainly took it seriously. Why is that? Were they so flawed in their political reckonings that they manhandled the most important aspect of a free society – the vote? If the vote counts for so much in a free and liberal democracy as we ‘know’ it today, why did they limit the vote so dramatically.”

So Yerushalmi isn’t crazy about Muslims, African-Americans, immigrants, or women. But wait, he also strongly dislikes liberal Jews:

“Jews of the modern age are the most radical, aggressive and effective of the liberal Elite. Their goal is the goal of all “progressives:” a determined use of liberal principles to deconstruct the Western nation state in a “historical” march to the World State……one must admit readily that the radical liberal Jew is a fact of the West and a destructive one.”

I contacted Mr. Yerushalmi to give him an opportunity to explain these writings. He declined.

[Note 2: As discussed by Richard Silverstein here, Yerushalmi is also on record as making the following anti-democracy statements: “Our constitutional republic was specifically designed to insulate our national leaders from the masses, democracy has seeped up through the cracks and corroded everything we once deemed sacred about our political order.”]

[Note 3: As discussed here, other articles on Yerushalmi’s website included openly racist statements such as the following: “Race matters and affects your intelligence. Jews are the smartest white people around. Orientals smarter than Whites. Latinos next. Then Blacks.”]

[Note 4: As discussed here, Yerushalmi has also written articles claiming that "most of the fundamental differences between the races is genetic." In the aforementioned article “On Race: A Tentative Discussion”, Yerushalmi described African-Americans as a "relatively murderous race killing itself” and stated: "If evolution and the biologists who espouse the theory are correct, then the idea that racial differences included innate differences in character and intelligence would[,] it seem[,] be more likely than not.”]

[Note 5: Yerushalmi tried to silence Richard Silverstein by threatening to sue him for defamation when he referred to Yerushalmi as a “white supremacist”. However, Yerushalmi withdrew the threat after Silverstein publicly presented the mass of information supporting his allegation and refused to back down.]

[Note 6: As discussed here, Yerushalmi is also on record as making the following Robert Spencer/Julius Streicher-style statement in his own defence: “I have never written anything that calls for discrimination against…Muslims qua Muslims.”]

[Note 7: Yerushalmi, Spencer, Geller, Gaffney and Horowitz are part of the core anti-Muslim propaganda network. Extensive further information on the main US-based individuals, organisations and financiers involved in this network is available here, here, here and here.]

Rep. Allen West still refuses to concede, calls recount a ‘sham’

Posted on 12 November 2012 by Amago

According to Florida election law, if the gap is larger than 0.5 percent, which it was, then no official recount is needed. But yet a recount was still given out to the former, one-term Representative Allen West. In predictable fashion West has called the recount a “sham.”

Rep. Allen West still refuses to concede, calls recount a ‘sham’

By Yukio Strachan

Palm Beach Gardens - After a partial recount of early voting ballots on Sunday, Republican Rep. Allen West still refuses to relinquish his Florida congressional seat to Democratic challenger Patrick Murphy, calling the recount a sham.

West gained votes, but Murphy still held a 50.3 percent share of the ballots and an overall lead of 1,907 votes, said the Washington Post.

The gap is larger than the 0.5 percent or less needed for an official recount under Florida election law.

Originally it was thought St. Lucie County election workers would recount all early voting ballots.

Only the last three days of early voting were recounted. Assistant County Attorney Heather Young told WPTV News Channel 5 the recount would only include the last three days of early voting because those were the only days the county encountered problems reading memory cards.

West’s team called the recount a “sham,” arguing that all eight days of early ballots should be recounted and threatening further legal action.

“We’ll pursue every legal action available to us to ensure that every vote is counted fairly and accurately in this election and once we’re satisfied that’s been the case, obviously we’ll be ready to move forward. But at this point and time, there’s a number of questions that need to be answered,” said Tim Edson, the campaign manager for Allen West.

An attorney for Murphy was also present during the recount and said the West campaign is wasting time in pursuing legal action.

“Their ball seems to be continuing to change and it is clear, it is a resounding victory for Patrick Murphy and it is time for us to move forward and do the people’s business and it’s time for Mr. West to take the honorable course, recognized the inevitable,” said Sean Dominick, an attorney for Murphy.

West has been keeping a low public profile since Tuesday’s election. On Sunday, the Palm Beach Gardens Republican posted a statement on Facebook:

Today is Veteran’s Day and I am spending the day at several events with those few who have always answered our Nation’s call. They are the guardians of our liberties and freedoms.

However, on this day I am deeply troubled by the voting procedure issues emanating from St Lucie County. It is unconscionable to me to witness what is transpiring before our eyes.

This is not about who gets a congressional seat, because it belongs to the people. This is about preserving the integrity of the voting process and the fundamental right to free and honest elections, because it is for that which I, and all veterans, have risked our lives.

Election 2012: Islamophobes Lose Big

Posted on 07 November 2012 by Emperor

by Emperor

Bye, bye to the shining hope of Islamopobes everywhere, Allen West (though he refuses to concede the election) has likely lost his House seat in a close race against 29 year old businessman Patrick Murphy. I’m sure post-Congress West will hit the speaking and right-wing news circuits railing against the infiltration of the USA by the twin phantom menaces known as the “Communists” and the “Mooslims”.

Florida was also the scene of that other darling of the Islamophobia movement, Adam Hasner. You will recall Hasner is good friends with Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer, he also shared the stage with the fascist Geert Wilders, who he praised effusively and hosted at a special event in 2009. Hasner lost his bid for the House to West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel.

Also gone is Tea Party politician Joe Walsh who saw “Muslim terrorists” in all of the surrounding suburbs of Chicago, Walsh was defeated by US Army veteran and double amputee Tammy Duckworth.

Charles Fuqua who advocated the “deportation of all Muslims” from the USA was defeated in Arkansas and Chip Cravaack was ousted by Rick Nolan after just one term .

Michelle Bachmann barely squeezed out a victory in Minnesota and Peter King held on, Mike Pence a possible future Republican presidential candidate won the governorship in Indiana and is an Islamophobe to watch.

Overall it was a bad night for the harbingers of anti-Muslim Islamophobic fervor. No doubt, they will try and come back with vengeance, but the electoral defeats they suffered are a good sign that their blatant displays of hate-mongering and scapegoating can be broken.

Obama’s re-election is not going to change much, we are still going to have a corporatist state that continues the policies of Empire, but just on a basic level Obama’s victory staved off a Romney presidency that would be littered with anti-Muslims heavily invested in attempting to intimidate American Muslims and enhancing a global Neo-Con vision. The next four years could have been one in which the likes of Rudy Giuliani, John Bolton, Walid Phares and others who are intimately tied with the Islamophobia movement would become regular staples of our Loon Politics category.

Video: Opponent of Fla. Muslim School Holidays Warns of ‘Camels’

Posted on 04 November 2012 by Emperor

Some Broward County Muslim parents have requested that Muslim holidays be added to the school calendar at a public diversity hearing.

The response from some of the prolific anti-Muslim groups in Broward (home of Rep. Allen West) including loon Joe Kaufman was to scream about “terrorism,” “cultural Jihad,” and “camels” entering your home.

Chart: Almost Every Obama Conspiracy Theory Ever

It’s tough keeping up with all the paranoid conspiracy theories swirling around President Obama. Fortunately, Mother Jones has compiled a summary, accompanied by a handy chart.

Chart: Almost Every Obama Conspiracy Theory Ever

By  and , Mother Jones

Barack Obama’s presidency has been an inspiration to many Americans—especially nutjobs. Ever since the first-black-president-to-be appeared on the national political stage, a cottage industry of conservative conspiracy theorists has churned out bizarro, paranoid, and just plain racist effluvia—some of which has trickled into the political mainstream. Below, we’ve charted some of the Obama-baiters best (i.e., worst) work. (Scroll down for more detailed descriptions of the conspiracy theories in the diagram.)

Obama Conspiracy Chart

The Conspiracy Theories

Disclaimer: It should go without saying that none of these are true. Follow links at your own risk.

Obama is a secret Muslim: This one began right after he took the stage at the 2004 Democratic convention, with chain emails alleging his “true” religious affiliation. The rumor soon found its way onto the popular conservative online forum Free Republic, and took on a whole new life in the years to come. Related: Obama secretly speaks Arabicattended a madrassa as a kid in Indonesia, referred to “my Muslim faith” in an interview, and was sworn in on a Koran.

Obama’s bringing 100 million Muslims to America: Avi Lipkin and his PR outfit Special Guests claimed to have evidence of a scheme to bring roughly 100 million Muslims from the Middle East into the United States, converting the country into an Islamic nation by the end of Obama’s second term and making it easier to obliterate Israel.

Obama once aided the mujahideen: Harlem pastor and professional race-baiter James David Manning contended that in his younger days, Obama went undercover as a CIA agent to facilitate the transfer of cash and weapons to the Afghan mujahideen in the ’80s, thereby aiding what would become the Taliban.

Obama is in the pocket of the Muslim Brotherhood: Billy Graham’s son Franklin wants you to know that Obama is allowing the Muslim Brotherhood to take over the federal government.

Obama redecorated the Oval Office in Middle Eastern style: Driven by his fierce sense of anti-American interior design, Obama got rid of the red, white, and blue decoration scheme in his White House office.

Obama married a Pakistani guy: World Net Daily correspondent and conspiracymonger extraordinaire Jerome Corsi posted a video in which he claimed to have “strong” evidence that Obama was once married to his college roommate from Pakistan. The smoking gun: Photos of the chums in which the future president is “sitting about on the [Pakistani roommate's] lap.” Related: For years Obama wore a gold ring on his left hand. Was it his gay-wedding ring?

Obama’s ring has a Koranic verse on it: The very same ring is allegedly emblazoned with a key phrase in the Islamic declaration of faith: “There is no god except Allah.” (It’s not.)

Obama was funded by a Saudi prince: Another fairy tale courtesy of Corsi: In late-’70s Chicago, Obama secured political and academic funding from a variety of sketchy Arab sponsors, including a Saudi prince. Which may explain why President Obama bowed to the Saudi king.

Obama was born in Kenya: In early 2008, fringe theorists began a push to prove Obama was born on foreign soil and was therefore ineligible to live in the White House. The theory gained national attention thanks to the efforts of perennial GOP candidate Alan Keyes, “birther queen”Orly Taitz, and Corsi. Related: Obama’s birth certificate is a fake, he killed his grandmother in Hawaii because she knew the truth, sealed access to his birth certificate and other damning documents, and did pretty much everything horrible you could possibly do for the sake of a phony birth certificate.

Obama lost his US citizenship: According to Corsi, Obama became an citizen of Indonesia while he lived there as a child.

Michelle’s “whitey” tape: During the 2008 campaign, rumors surfaced that a video of Michelle Obama using the word “whitey” would be released to sink her husband’s campaign. It’s never materialized. Related: The time Glenn Beck called Barack Obama a racist.

Obama was a Black Panther: Well, only if you’re not very good at spotting photoshopped images.

Obama is the son of Malcolm X: Because, you know, black people. This charmer popped up on Atlas Shrugged, Pamela Geller’s anti-Muslim website. (Geller is also known for obsessing over Shariah turkeys she believes are destroying Thanksgiving.)

Obama is the son of Frank Marshall Davis: The conspiracy film Dreams From My Real Father espouses the theory that Davis, a leftist activist, was not only Obama’s ideological mentor but his biological father. Related: Obama got a nose job to make his nose look less like Davis’.

Obama’s mom and dad were communists: And you know that communism is an inherited condition.

Obama’s ghostwriter was Bill Ayers: Conservative commentators claimed they uncovered evidence that ex-Weatherman Bill Ayers was the true author of Obama’s 1995 memoir Dreams from my Father. Former Republican congressman Chris Cannon of Utah went as far as to try to commission an Oxford professor to confirm Ayers’ authorship through computer analysis.

Obama trained to overthrow the government: In 2008, leading Obama conspiracy theorist Andy Martin declared on Fox News’ Hannity’s America that the then-presidential candidate had trained for “a radical overthrow of the government” during his time as a community organizer in Chicago.

Obama wouldn’t say the Pledge of Allegiance: During the ’08 campaign, Obama was rumored to have refused to say the pledge during a town hall meeting. A photo of the incident was actually taken while the national anthem was being sung.

Obama removed the flag from Air Force One: …and replaced it with his campaign logo.

Obama ordered soldiers to swear allegiance to him: In April 2009, a clearly satirical report detailing how secretary of defense Robert Gates was growing “extremely frustrated” with the White House’s plans to scrub the Constitution from the military oath of loyalty made the rounds on the right-wing blogosphere.

Obama secretly gave away American islands to Russia: Texas House candidate Wes Riddle endorsed this theory and noted the relinquishment as grounds for impeachment. However, the seven Arctic islands were actually given away in 1991 by President George H.W. Bush.

Obama caused the recession—in 1995: According to a recent Daily Caller story, Obama’s efforts to force banks to lend to African Americans in the mid-’90s led to the subprime mortgage crisis that killed the economy in 2008.

Obama’s youth reeducation camps: Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) warned that “young people will be put into mandatory service” at politically correct, billion-dollar camps run by the Democrats.

Obama’s coming for your guns: Extreme gun-rights outfits, along with Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), alleged that the Obama administration is supporting the (nonexistent) United Nations Small Arms Treaty, which would lead to nationwide gun confiscation.

Obama’s coming for your gold: This theory was floated by Glenn Beck—and the gold company he shilled for.

Obama is planning FEMA concentration camps: Again with the camps. This theory got a big boost from Glenn Beck (who claims he didn’t mean anything by it). Related: An executive order titled, “National Defense Resources Preparedness,” was issued in the middle of March 2012. Conservative commentators saw it as a martial law power-grab that allowed the president to commandeer farmland, steal everyone’s food, and draft any American into slave labor for a war of aggression against Iran. Also, he has a “secret vault” at Interpol’s headquarters for imprisoning Americans. (Chuck Norris is on the case.)

Obama wants to confiscate your IRA: Townhall.com sent out an message ad claiming that Obama wants to seize your retirement account by force.

Obama caused the BP oil spill: Conspiracy-minded radio host Alex Jones promoted the theory that the Deepwater Horizon spill was all part of the administration’s plans of oil nationalization and global government.

Obama was behind the Aurora massacre: In July, Gun Owners of America blasted out a press release claiming that the mass murder at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, was suspiciously timed. “Someone in Washington” was probably behind it, paving the way for Obama-led firearm confiscation and “government genocide.”

Obama personally caused Hurricane Sandy: It wasn’t global warming that made Sandy so intense; it was Barack. Alex Jones’ site reportedthe president engineered the storm using a Pentagon weather modification project. The mayhem caused by the hurricane would afford Obama the opportunity to score points by briskly managing disaster relief a week before the election.

Obama had Andrew Breitbart killed: In March 2012, conservative media impresario Andrew Breitbart died of heart failure. Less than a month prior to his death, he had announced that he had uncovered footage of Obama’s formative years as a radical. So obviously, Obama had him offed. (The tapes were later revealed to contain things like a young Obama hugging a black college professor.) Related: People—like a Rod Blagojevich fundraiser and an Obama impersonator—died between 2008 and 2012. Obama was in office between 2008 and 2012…coincidence?!?!

Obama spiked the jobs report: ”Jobs truthers” (like former GE CEO Jack Welch and Florida tea party congressman Allen West) accused the Obama administration of cooking the September unemployment numbers to manufacture a rosier picture of the economy and boost the president’s chances of reelection.

Obama faked bin Laden’s death: Since no photographs of Osama bin Laden’s corpse were produced, the Al Qaeda leader must still be out there. Fox News’ Steve Doocy and Andrew Napolitano entertained the idea that Operation Neptune Spear was merely a ploy to revive Obama’s sagging approval ratings. Related: Obama was photoshopped into the iconic killing-OBL White House photo.

Obama’s plan to fake an assassination attempt: A false-flag operation would create urban tumult and give Obama the pretext to declare martial law, thus suspending democracy, postponing the 2012 election, and prolonging his stay in office. The theory was flagged by Tenn. State Rep. Kelly Keisling, among others, after circulating online.

Obama the brainwashing hypnotist: As a master of neurolinguistic programming, Obama convinced Americans to vote for him via subliminal messages. Related: Rush Limbaugh pondered if hypnosis was the reason that so many Jewish voters were in the bag for Obama.

Obama’s teleprompter: Obama’s eloquence is a myth! The 44th president is incapable of speaking in public with his teleprompter.

Obama had a ghostwriter for everything: Jack Cashill over at WND had a hot scoop on how Obama’s love letters to his college girlfriend were ghostwritten.

Obama’s anti-Semitic poetry: However, according to the American Thinker, Obama’s ghostwriters did not write his youthful poem “Underground,” which compares Jews to fig-eating underwater apes and echoes Koranic verse.

Obama’s exiled lover: Obama was supposedly fooling around with an attractive young staffer from his 2004 Senate campaign. Michelle Obama had the temptress packed off to the Caribbean before the ’08 campaign.

Obama is gay: Which explains why he joined Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s church. No, really. (Via Corsi, of course.)

Obama’s crack cocaine/gay sex/murder orgy cover-up: In 2008, a small-time conman named Larry Sinclair and his kilt-wearing lawyer held a press conference to tell the world of the future president’s murderous, drug-and-sodomy-fueled crimes.

Obama’s campaigns were funded by drug money: During an October conference call organized to oppose pot legalization, a writer from Lyndon LaRouche’s magazine asked about “reports [that both Obama's] 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns have been financed in part by laundered drug money.”

Obama is the Antichrist: Obviously. Related: If you play his 2008 Democratic nomination acceptance speech backwards, you can hear him instruct listeners to do Satan’s bidding.

Obama is a lizard overlord: According to codes hidden in Biblical verse, Obama is a reptilian humanoid. This idea has found its way on to some right-wing radio shows, and two Daily Caller reporters recently published a (satirical?) e-book on the topic titled, The Lizard King: The Shocking Inside Account of Obama’s True Intergalactic Ambitions by an Anonymous White House Staffer.

Obama’s adventures on Mars: As a teen, Obama participated in a CIA initiative to teleport to Mars using a top-secret “jump room.” Self-described time travelers William Stillings and Andrew Basiago claim to have met the future POTUS at American space bases on the Red Planet. In early 2012, a spokesman for the National Security Council actually acknowledged these claims, and issued a fairly convincing denial.
