Survey Reveals Muslims are More Integrated into Europe than Previously Thought

uk_muslims

The Muslim Demographic threat conspiracy theory takes another hit in Europe with a new Gallup poll that came out recently revealing that Muslims in Britain, Germany and France are well integrated into their communities. (Hat tip: Syed) The report by Gallup and the Coexist Foundation says 77% of British Muslims identified with the UK, compared with 50% of the general public. There was a similar finding in Germany, the survey says.

Survey Reveals Muslim Attitudes

European Muslims have much more loyalty to the countries they live in than is generally believed, a survey says.

The report by Gallup and the Coexist Foundation says 77% of British Muslims identified with the UK, compared with 50% of the general public.

There was a similar finding in Germany, the survey says.

The authors say their report counters a commonly-held view that measures to combat Islamic militancy may have alienated many European Muslims.

“This research shows that many of the assumptions about Muslims and integration are wide of the mark,” said Dalia Mogahed of the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies and co-author of the report.

“European Muslims want to be part of the wider community and contribute even more to society,” she said.

The findings of the report are surprising, because since the 11 September attacks in the US commentators have repeatedly questioned the loyalties of European Muslims to the countries they live in, the BBC’s Rob Broomby says.

The research – which focused mainly on European Muslims in Britain, France and Germany – polled around 500 Muslims and 1,000 members of the general public in each country.

‘Isolated’

In Britain, the report found that more than three-quarters of Muslims identified with the country and its institutions – far more even than the general population did.

But whereas the vast majority of British Muslims (82%) felt Muslims were loyal citizens, the general public remained suspicious of them.

In Germany, 40% of Muslims identified with the country against 32% of the wider public.

German Muslims were also found far more likely than the general public to have confidence in the judicial system, financial institutions and the honesty of elections.

They had higher levels of confidence in their national government than society as a whole, but much less faith in the media.

In France, 52% of Muslims identified with the country, compared with 55% of the general public.

However, the report found that French Muslims had much less confidence in the nation’s institutions, including police.

The survey also said that European Muslims felt far more isolated than those living in the United States and Canada.

This is the kind of website we need to counter the islomophobic websites out there. These days anti-islamic sites have become a big business and that is why a new one pops up every day. I hope more people know about this site so people could see for themselves what motive do these loons have.

Emperor, Israel Hasbara is a voluntary organisation. I’m not sure of their pay structure, or what it takes to be a member but maybe someone can follow it up. I suppose you could ask a journalist to apply based on what theywrite and then make up your mind.

Israel Hasbara isn’t just comprised of neo-cons, though the fact they include people like Brigette Gabriel who is a liar, out and out liar, doens’t do their credibility any good, but I suppose their criteria must only be,
“so long as you can promote Israel”

in all fairness, i’m not sure that a qualifying factor has to be that you’re Likud or Kahanist, you might only have to be able to write about Israel. Bear in mind, that most Israeli’s are left wing, and the Israeli media is actually more free and critical even of the occupation than the neo con controlled American media. both George Soros and Stephen Walt have vocalised this.

In fact George Soros funded J Street, because he thought the Likud controlled AIPAC won’t make peace so recommended an alternative peace lobby. He believes in the Saudi peace plan, or talking to Hamas, but AIPAC opposes that. That is why Goege Soros gets flak from Likudniks.

I note that there are some highly respected names there, even pro Palestinian Israeli’s like Amira Hass and Gideon Levy, so bear in mind, that Christopher Hitchens name being on the list doesn’t mean anything sinisiter or that he is a liar. He may have written some fair material on Israel. It’s the unfair one, that concerns us. ie. those that subvert using deceptive means, like Bill Kristol did (his media supported the neo con lies during the Iraq war lead up)

Israel Hasbara itself wouldn’t be a sinister organisation, as i don’t think there is anything wrong with promoting a country (tourist centres do it) if it were not involved in a conflict which has supporters who want something that the world won’t allow (Likudnik expansion).

I guess what i’m trying to say, is that IF Christopher Cauldwell had openly talked about being pro Likud like Daniel Pipes does it wouldn’t be so newsworthy. I mean we all know that Daniel Pipes is a Likudnik, hence we know why he does what he does.

One more thing, Brijette Gabriel when she started “educating americans about islam” didn’t let on that she was on Israel Hasbara, i think source watch or someone (robert weitzel i think) dug it out.

I think what the neo cons are now doing is trying a sneaky method of using “clean” people to propogate what they cannot. Europeans would never buy Likud propoganda, it works in America because of the ignorance, and the Armeggedonites, using their Christian Taliban media to promote Likud agenda and denigrate Islam.

I’m not saying that Bill Kristol put him up to this, but he may be pulling caldwell’s strings and encouraging him after all he is his employer’s editor..

Anyway, I hope your team can keep an eye open and come up with one of your gems if you find out more:)

    Nabeela,

Very interesting, did not know that Caldwell might possibly be on the payroll of the Hasbara fellowship. I am actually quite shocked to see Christopher Hitchens on there, I thought the guy was against fundies, he has to know the other wackos who are part of Hasbara? I guess he really has no morals.

Well what do you know! I think Loon Watch have juicy story on their hands here!

Christopher Caldwell is on the list of Israel Hasbara Comittee writers, along with William Kristol his editor at the Weekly Standard. Scroll down to the bottom, he Caldwell is in the second alphabetical list.

For readers who are not aware, Israel Hasbara Comittee is a voluntary organisation of pro Israel journalists and writers all over the world. Whilst their list includes respectable names there are also those who promote the Likud agenda using deceptive means (falsly playing the victim card) propoganda and outright lies. Some of the Islamophobic loons that are exposed here, like Daniel Pipes, and Brigitte Gabriel are also listed.

Is this the same “Christopher Caldwell” on the Hasbara list, or is it another writer? I note that his surname is spelt “Cauldwell” in some places, but at Israel Hasbara there is a writer named Christopher Caldwell, whom I suspect is the same as the author of “Reflections on the Revolution in Europe: Immigration, Islam, and the West”

Maybe Loon Watch can write an article highligting his neo con links? I’d draw your attention to an interesting analysis here by spinwatch about how American neo-cons are trying to build a base in Europe.

I’ve read several reviews of Christopher Caldwell’s book but none of them mention his neo con links, or what the neo con agenda is. My guess is that this link has been deliberately downplayed (probably advised by his employer) to lend credibility amongst the mainstream European community .

Of course, Bill Kristol and his ilk don’t want the Israeli rightist link made public because Europe is anti Israel. So they try to use front men like Caldwell.

    Who are the “Eurocons”?
    by Tom Griffin | 17 December 2009
Some centers of establishment neoconservatism are focused on pressuring pan-European institutions. One example is Realité EU, a London-based outfit with links to the U.S.-based Israel Project, which has sought to pressure the European Parliament to toughen its stance on Iran. [15] Another is the Brussels-based Transatlantic Institute, founded by the American Jewish Committee and headed by Commentary contributor Emanuele Ottolenghi, who has called for Europe to “use its mighty economic, financial, and commercial clout to squeeze Iran.”

Other examples of establishment neoconservatism in Europe are groups like the Geneva-based UN Watch, whose work is aimed at discrediting European-based international organizations. UN Watch, which is affiliated to the American Jewish Committee, is ostensibly devoted to “formulating policy recommendations addressed to Member States and the United Nations system.” However, the group’s work has been repeatedly criticized for its excessive bias toward Israel. [16]

So how about it Loon Watch? I’d appreciate an indept analysis, and im sure others would too, as this link hasn’t been highlighted anywhere in great detail. It needs to be pushed firmly under the spotlight.

How about adding a new category “Euro-con Loons” to your categories? Geert Wilders, and Christopher Caldwell belong there.

Do remember that Bill Kristol was part of PNAC and OSP and Haartez named him as one of the proponents of the Iraq war. (See below) Also below is a link to a BBC Panoroma documentary on the same subject where Bill Kristol is a prominent player. More links that may help with research follow, they show how the likes of Bill Kriston used their media influence to push the faked Iraq war “evidence” that was fabricated secretly in Israel through the OSP.

“None of the Israelis who came were cleared into the Pentagon through normal channels,” said one source familiar with the visits. Instead, they were waved in on Mr Feith’s authority without having to fill in the usual forms.
The exchange of information continued a long-standing relationship Mr Feith and other Washington neo-conservatives had with Israel’s Likud party.

I wouldn’t pay too much attention to Cauldwell, he is most probably being used by American pro Israel rightists who fear the growing Muslim influence in Europe will mean a diminished support for the Likud agenda.

Christoper Cauldwell is an American and his writing a column for the FI doesn’t qualify him to speak for Europe. He could be currying favour with his Zionist neo con American employer The Weekly Standard, said to be the Bible of Neo conservatism. Bill Kristol (Jewish far right Zionist) is the Editor. Christopher Cauldwell is a senior editor.

As Peter Brimelow notes at the vdare.com blog below, Cauldwell could have deliberately omitted to mention the Israel Europe link so as to cast diversion from his intentions (pleasing his neo con employers)

Why Is Christopher Caldwell Such A Useless Debater?
    http://blog.vdare.com/archives/2009/08/22/why-is-christopher-caldwell-such-a-useless-debater/
….. How come Caldwell didn’t at least say, when asked to give an example of how Muslim immigrants threaten Western culture, that they make support of Israel more difficult? What NPR host could handle that?

But, curiously, Caldwell also shrinks from being associated with the neoconservatism of his Zionist employer, the Weekly Standard, protesting feebly that the London Financial Times, where he does a column, is anti-neocon.

My theory: Caldwell has made an absolutely conscious decision not be confrontational, even though he’s written a confrontational book.

    For Louis
    Christopher Caldwell Dissected
    By Matt Carr 2 July 2009, 4:00pm

Commenting on the positive reception of Caldwell’s effort —
At first sight it may seem odd that a senior editor of the neoconservative Weekly Standard and an admirer of Enoch Powell should receive such acclaim from such bastions of British liberalism. So what makes Caldwell different and why has his book managed to transcend the conservative/right-wing readership that the ‘green peril’ sub-genre normally attracts? Firstly, there is his approach to the issues he raises. Unlike Fallaci and Mark Steyn, Caldwell does not rant or sneer. He presents his book as an objective and judicious discussion rather than a polemic, and avoids conspiratorial explanations for Muslim immigration of the type made by Eurabian theorists like Bat Ye’or. His arguments are measured, thoughtful and nuanced, and considerably more sophisticated than the rantings of Melanie Phillips. His authorial persona is that of a puzzled and concerned observer of the European predicament, driven only by a willingness to consider all angles of a serious debate that others are ignoring. He is cultured and knowledgeable.

For all these qualities, there is virtually nothing in his book that would be out of place in any other examples of the ‘green peril’ genre. […]

ANOTHER RECENT book release which complements that of Shepherd is Christopher Caldwell”s Reflections on the Revolution in Europe: Immigration, Islam and the West. Caldwell, a highly regarded London Financial Times journalist, deals with Islam in Europe and depicts how uncontrolled Muslim immigration has resulted in catastrophic unintended consequences. He highlights the abject failure of multiculturalism, noting that second-generation Muslim immigrants have become less integrated than the first and that the third generation is even worse.

The demographic future he projects is very gloomy. Native Europeans have insufficient children to maintain replacement, while Muslim immigrants continue having large families. He demonstrates how, unless current trends are reversed, within half a century Islam will be the majority religion of young people in many European countries.

He describes how a combination of complacency and a refusal to face up to reality, combined with moral relativism, has encouraged European governments to stand by while agents of radical Islam made headway in many communities and are now in the process of displacing Western civilization and transforming Europe.

Caldwell is emphatic that as a determined adversary culture, Islam has the potential of conquering Europe unless European governments display the courage to demand that migrants accept the secularism, tolerance and equality of Western culture.

In my opinion there will always be a bunch of racial bigots who will jump on and project their bigotry on any marginalized minority of the day. The problem they are having is that Muslims are neither marginalized nor an insignificant minority.

Many muslims who came to the west did so out of the desire to gain an economic advantage. Therefore, you will find them integrated into the economic fabric of the west (as doctors, engineers, scientists, businessmen). They have only now found a voice to address the political and social discourse of their chosen countries.

This survey indicates the overwhelming desire of muslims to be part of the social discourse. The bigots, unfortunately, see it as an expression of the muslims desire to dominate their societies. As long as people respond to the bigots call of, “if you don’t like it here, go back to where you came from” – there can be no constructive debate on integration.

Integration is a two-way street with lots of u-turns and false starts – something a bigot has a hard time understanding.

  • AF

Nabeela: “There are some Muslim communties that have not integrated properly in Europe, however this problem is not confined to only the Muslims as the lying Islamophboes would have you believe.”

Very true. Speaking of my country (Italy), the less integrated community of immigrants here are the Roms, which are Orthodox Christians. They live in refugee camps and are the at the top of the crime stats for all the immigrants groups. But you’ll never hear Robert Spencer or Pamela Geller calling them “christiano-fascists” or some name like that. In fact, in many instances i’ve seen that american islamophobes used crimes’ stories in which the criminal was a Rom (so a orthodox christian) saying that since he was an “immigrant” he was a “muslim” going in a rampage to “establish shaaria law”.

We must always remember that the vast bulk of islamophobes is made of mentally impaired people.

  • Shawn Johnston

It makes sense that they feel less isolated in the U.S. Glad you made the point why, Nabeela.

  • Nabeela

There are some Muslim communties that have not integrated properly in Europe, however this problem is not confined to only the Muslims as the lying Islamophboes would have you believe.

This problem does not exist in the USA simply because the culture there is different to the one in Europe, immigrants find it very easy to integrate in the USA. One of the reasons being that America was basically a nation of immigrants, but the European countries all have 1000 year old histories and differing languages, customs and habits even among themselves. Multi culturalism doesnt exist in the USA like it does in Europe, but that is now changing, as more and more realise that multiculuralism leads to polarisation and isolation.

Islamophobes take cultural habits and pretend that they are Islamic, when the truth is even the non Muslim immigrants from some of these communties have the same problems.

They never tell you about the successful middle and upper class Muslim communities in Europe because they would rather have people believe that they are all no hopers and that Islam is a threat.

Another lie peddled by Islamophboes is that the birth rates by Muslim immigrants are contributing to a higher Muslim demographic, but the truth is that more native Europeans are converting to Islam than the numbers of birth rates. Europeans have a low birth rate, and immigrants have a high birth rate, in fact East Europeans in England have a very high birth rate. But all of these facts get brushed aside.

I wonder what Paul has to say to this..LOL, hopefully without his “ethics and civil rights” spectacles on:)

Hey Paul are you reading this?
