Nachum Shifren: Racist Rabbi Still Trying to Run For Senate Seat

Nachum Shifren is still trying to run for senate. He thinks “White Americans” like “him” are under assault by everyone else. In the past we exposed Shifren for being the racist and hate-monger he is in our article, Rabbi Nachum Shifren: Rides the Wave of Islamophobia and Rabbi Nachum Shifren: EDL is the Salvation of the West from the “Muslim Dogs”.

I am not even sure if Shifren is still a Jew, how can he say this and remain a Jew, perhaps he is a “self-hating” Jew?:

… I AM an Islamophobe, and everything we need to know about Islam, we learned on 9-11! I believe in peace and justice for everybody – but that’s not why they’re here…. We’re getting sucker-punched because we as white – yes I said it! – as white, Christian Americans are being taught that somehow WE are to blame for all the problems.

Clearly he didn’t mean to say that he is a “Christian,” maybe he forgot to add the “Judeo” part?

California: EDL-supporting Senate candidate claims to defend ‘white Americans’ against threat of Islam

San Mateo, CA — In the US Senate primary in California on June 5th, where 23 candidates vie to challenge Senator Dianne Feinstein in November, conservative candidates were recorded on videoverbally attacking teachers, Muslims, and minority groups to excite their base at GOP and Tea Party venues.

The video was recorded at a “Get to Know Your Candidates” event hosted by the San Mateo GOP at the American Legion Hall here. Dr. David Levitt, the candidate who recorded the event, reports unmasked homophobia, Islamophobia, and racism in the Republicans’ speeches.

In the video Republican candidate Rabbi Shifren cries, “… I AM an Islamophobe, and everything we need to know about Islam, we learned on 9-11! I believe in peace and justice for everybody – but that’s not why they’re here…. We’re getting sucker-punched because we as white – yes I said it! – as white, Christian Americans are being taught that somehow WE are to blame for all the problems.”

PRWeb, 14 May 2012

In October 2010 Nachum Shifren visited the UK to express his solidarity with the English Defence League, joining them for ademonstration in support of Israel and against “Islamic fascism” at which he was the main speaker. Fired up by Shifren’s Islamophobic rhetoric – he described Muslims as “dogs” who were trying to “take over our countries” – three EDL members attacked an Islamic literature stall and were later convicted of public order offences, with one of them receiving a seven-day prison sentence and a five-year CRASBO.

    @Palestinian: DNA tests have in fact shown that Jews and Palestinians share more common features than if they were not closely related. Whether we are “white” or not is more social convention; at one point in the United States, Italians were generally not considered white, then they were in but Eastern Europeans were not, and so forth.

    @Tom: “Ilisha/Just Stopping By/AntiSemites” I knew I needed an example of how to start a message by potentially turning off two members of your target audience! That phrase can certainly be misread easily.

    You also come close to equating anti-Semitism with anti-Zionism and suggest that the left wing is “not really clued up to the Muslim anti semitism propagated under cover of anti Zionism.” Believe me, I am clued into areas such as Muslim, and other, blatant anti-Semitism and Muslim and other anti-Semitism in the guise of anti-Zionism.

    But, sometimes anti-Zionism is just anti-Zionism. And sometimes it’s not clear whether an anti-Zionist statement is based in anti-Semitism or not, so I wouldn’t make the blanket statement that there is no undisclosed anti-Semitism here, but I think we have to go with innocent until proven guilty.

    “Ilisha is probably not a Muslim.” Because you can tell her religion from her point of view on different topics? Or because maybe she’s a Muslima?

  • Ilisha

    @Tom

    I wouldn’t assume every Muslim is steeped in antisemitic conspiracy theories. I can assure you many are not familiar with the twisting of Khazar history to serve an agenda.

    Also, I wouldn’t necessarily describe Loonwatch as leftist. We share a mission, but we don’t all come from the same vantage point.

  • Tom

    Ilisha/Just Stopping By/AntiSemites

    The Khazar myth has been grabbed by many in the Arab/Muslim world as an excuse to deglitimise Israel. That’s probably why not many Muslims here will speak out. Ilisha is probably not a Muslim.

    The left wing which Loon Watch is representative of, are not really clued up to the Muslim anti semitism propogated under cover of anti Zionism. Norman Finkelstein recently got wise to it. If he can, so can others.

    There should be a Loon Watch site for Muslim bigots. They cake the cake, some of them at least. Not all I hesitate to add. The two comments above are fairly tame compared to what one can find here by regular anti semites.oops anti Zionists.

  • Palestinian

    I always thought Jews weren’t white but Semitic like us.

  • Just Stopping By

    @Ilisha:

    Thank you for your comment. First, I want to say that I have noted, and appreciated, that you are very good about addressing such conspiracy theories and similar hate-filled comments. Second, I am not calling for those types of comments to be banned, since LoonWatch does appear to have a policy of allowing at least some of those comments through so that people can respond.

    I was simply taking the time to respond myself on this thread, given that it had already attracted two anti-Jewish comments. I often let those type of comments go by, but this thread looked as if it was in danger of being infested with them; also, I did want to respond to Nur Alia who made a comment with a very positive view (that someone who is racist should not be thought of as Jewish), though one that I think cannot be said to be correct.

    I do want to point out, however, that you may also be a little optimistic in saying with respect to bigoted comments that if “we [LoonWatch] we don’t address it immediately, we can count on visitors to respond themselves.” Because many commenters here are against bigotry in all forms, that does happen often; but not always. For example, the phrase “the white Khazar AshkeNAZI Jews,” with the capitalization per the original comment, got no response here: http://www.loonwatch.com/2012/02/a-global-war-on-christians-in-the-muslim-world/#comment-155323. That’s also why I was so keen on the Khazar line of comments, as the term has been used in comments as an insult, which is both insulting to Jews and Khazars.

    Finally, you may remember that in one of the Eltahawy threads I pointed out how she did a poor job of positively influencing her target audience because of how she wrote. (As an aside, you made an excellent response to me there, hinting that the Arab/Muslim world was not her target audience.) I think that drawing out that response from you shows that my comment was able to get a positive lengthy response from a member of my target audience! And, looking back at how long my comment here is, I guess you can say the same! :-)

    “We’re getting sucker-punched because we as white – yes I said it! – as white, Christian Americans are being taught that somehow WE are to blame for all the problems.”

    obvious sarcasm was lost on Loonwatch.

  • MaratSafin

    Adbul Rahman
    aka right wing douchebag, but at least this Khazar is honest about the WHITE part lol). You sound just like Rabbi Shifrin, yourself. I am curious, do you believe that white Muslims like myself are not Muslims because my ancestors converted? Or maybe I am mistaken, I havn’t seen anyone from the Jewish communities anywhere, even the Orthodox saying that Khazaria were not Jews? If i’m mistaken I apologise, please give me a reference. It’s a sad fact that today because of the Palestinian/Israel conflict many Muslims too like Rabbi Shifrin embrace racist ideology, when it comes to Jews.

  • Ilisha

    @Just Stopping By

    Jews and Muslims have an amazing amount in common, and unfortunately, that seems to include being frequent targets of ridiculous, hateful conspiracy theories.

    Most of these kinds of comments aren’t published, and if they are, we address them immediately. Here are a few random examples:

    I referenced that last comment in the introduction to another article, ridiculing conspiracy theories about both Muslims and Jews. We also publish some comments that are clearly anti-Muslim to allow some dissent. If we always dump ugly comments in the trash, there’s no opportunity to address even the recurring themes.

    In any case, it’s nice to know that if for whatever reason a comment like this gets published and we don’t address it immediately, we can count on visitors to respond themselves, as they did here. Bigotry is bigotry, and we oppose it–I don’t know why some people don’t get that.

  • Sarah Brown

    @Arab Atheist – I sympathise with loonwatch because I too write for a blog which is sometimes judged hastily by some of its more extreme commenters!

    Nur Alia – do you mean you get the sense, from the Western media, that the Israelis are the victims? The UK media’s a bit different maybe …. ‘Both sides are not being helpful in resolving it’ sounds about right.

  • Just Stopping By

    @Nur Alia: I don’t recall you ever saying anything offensive to Jews. We have some differences on politics in the Middle East, but that is a separate issue, and if I gave you the impression that I felt that you were someone saying something against Jews as Jews, I apologize.

    If anything, your comment that Shifren is not a Jew indicates that you would like to believe that no Jews are racists, indicating a very positive attitude toward Jews. I would love to be able to say that no Jews are racists, but, as with every group, that is sadly not the case.

  • Nur Alia

    Just Stopping By.

    I feel bad that I dont know any Jews in real life, or know nothing about them, except what is ‘attached’ to the conflict between the Israelis and Palistinians.

    Where I live, we dont see many Jews, and what we hear and see of them is mostly from media outlets. We know that when we read or hear accounts ‘independant’ of western media, they seem to tell a different story about the conflict…and we know that both sides are not being helpful in resolving it, rather than the victim, villian portrayed in the western media.

    Unfortuanlty, we have alot of problems with ‘truthfulness’, and ignorance at least where I live.

    Please forgive me if I ever offend a Jewish person. I dont mean ever to be mean.

  • Just Stopping By

    @Nur Alia (and @Mindy1): Sadly, we do have to admit that Shifren is a Jew, despite the fact that we find his views absolutely repugnant. We have to recognize that there are loons in every group, and Shifren is an example.

    As a Jew, I say that I completely repudiate his views, just as I hope that Muslims here would repudiate statements such as calling Jews Khazars (historically inaccurate as most Jewish lineage is independent of the group of Khazars that converted, and any use of a term meant to denigrate another group is wrong) or claims that they have been out to destroy Christianity for two thousand years.

    @Sarah Brown and @Arab Atheist: thanks.

  • Nur Alia

    Maybe this guy is like those who claim to be ‘persecuted by Muslims’ to get more fame and fortune. I dont belive he is a Jew, or a Rabbi. I think he made a Fraudian slip when he talked about ‘Whites and Christians’. He is probably a wolf in hyena clothing…because racists run in packs, like hyenas. He forgot he was pretending to be Jewish.

    He did admit however something his comrades in hate deny. There is such a thing as ‘Islamophobia’…because he admitted he was infested with it.

    See what some “Jews” are doing for Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike:

  • Arab Atheist – ملحد عربي

    @MOORISHaM
    So antisemitism is OK but Islamophobia is not?
    Both antisemitism and Islamophobia belong categorically to xenophobia, so stop being hypocritical.

    @Sarah Brown
    I agree with you. Only when people stop casting whole races/groups/religions as inferior or malicious will we get rid of such lowly feelings like xenophobia. And as far as I understand, this is what Loonwatch is about.

    @Loonwatch
    A lot of people keep misunderstanding what your website is all about. Why don’t you write a mission statement?

  • TTM

    @MOORISHaM ‘Now their new-found love of Christians is simply to play them as their useful idiots in Israel’s war against Islam’

    Personally I prefer the term useless idiots, surely anyone that buys into the crock of s**t being pedalled by these new age nazi’s cannot be described as being useful in any way, shape or manner.

  • Pamela

    As far as some Americans feel he is not white or christian good to see someone who people are and still sometimes mistreated for thier belief he is ready to do the same to others.

  • Sarah Brown

    Clearly Shifren’s views are despicable – but so are MOORISHaM’s.

  • Haddock

    Maybe he is practicing taqiyya? :-)

  • MOORISHaM

    Funny, people like the rabbi have been doing their best to destroy Christianity for the last 2,000 years. Now their new-found love of Christians is simply to play them as their useful idiots in Israel’s war against Islam.

    @Emperor

    I got the video of this guy via CAIR’s Youtube channel. I was alerted by Email. People here should consider subscribing. Someone should point out just how similar his thinking is to the Nazis. Shifren needs to understand just what type of thinking it was that led to the Holocaust.

  • Arab Atheist – ملحد عربي

    Jewish version of al-Zawahiri or al-Awlaqi? It doens’t matter as long as the hated group is Mozlim!

    (with my sincere apologies to all moderate Jews and Muslims, who are the majority)

  • mindy1

    I disown this loon !!! He is NOT a member of MY tribe 😉

  • Abdul-Rahman

    That is “Abodah Zarah” in Hebrew meaning “idol worshippers” what Moses Maimonides again termed Christians.

  • Abdul-Rahman

    Wow this racist “Rabbi” is allegedly “White Christian American” (aka right wing douchebag, but at least this Khazar is honest about the WHITE part lol). I’m guessing Moses Maimonides (1135 CE-1204 CE) aka the “Rambam” the most important Orthodox Jewish scholar of all time by most accounts (who side trivia wrote most his works in Judeo-Arabic while living in peace in Muslim lands) would be shocked to hear “Rabbi” Shifren today lol. Mostly because Maimonides wrote that Jews could pray in Muslim Mosques if they could not find a synagogue and that specifically (no offense intended to any Christian) Maimonides wrote that Jews were forbidden to entire a Christian church as Maimonides termed Christians “Abdoah Zarah” in Hebrew which literally means “idol worshippers”!

    The “Christians” this “Rabbi” has teamed up with are the same racist, xenophobic, fascist aholes who still secretly hate most Jews but they see these Zionists now as “allies of convenience” against the Arabs and Muslims they both are xenophobic/imperialist towards and against respectively. This reminds me a lot of many “Christian Zionists” in the US as well who deep down if they admitted it publicly still hate Jews and believe Jesus PBUH will destroy all the Jews who won’t convert to Christianity when he returns (which these “Christian Zionists” believe they can supposedly “hasten” by “supporting Israel” in their completely non-Biblical bs “theology” aka the 19th century CE creation of “Dispensationalism” of John Nelson Darby in England lol) but they just work together now as again “allies of convenience”.
