The Young Turks on the MEK: Iranian Militant Group To Be Taken Off Terrorist Watch List By Obama Admin

Now we are being told that they are “Iran’s main opposition.” Where have we heard such talk before?

“All of those people who took money from the MEK should be immediately arrested!”-Cenk Uygur

We’ve been screaming about the Mujahidin-e Khalq and the cozy “material support for terrorism”  relationship that high ranking politicians have with the group for quite some time now. Other websites have been covering the story as well, particularly, but we have not heard much from the mainstream media.

Now the Young Turks have taken up the story and are reporting on it. Cenk Uygur vents and exposes all the hypocrisies and double standards inherent in the USA’s relationship with a group that it’s own State Department has designated a terrorist organization!

Also, in a follow up to our previous story on a court ruling demanding Hilary Clinton choose between either delisting or keeping the group on the terrorist list, the Wall Street Journal reports that the Obama administration was already moving to have the group de-listed:

So glad I no longer have any respect for people like Bachmann. I’m also even more glad that she failed to win the presidency. Could imagine someone with her think as our leader?

  • Jack

TYT also has a nice one on Michelle Bachmann’s latest claim: that the Muslim Brotherhood has penetrated deep into the US government.

  • khushboo

Seriously, is anyone really shocked by this? Most of our politicians are corrupt. I would be shocked, however, if I hear of a politician who did something moral without an agenda.

  • BuddhaShrink

And does anybody else remember what a fit was had when Al Gore apparently received money from some Buddhists Monks?
And no pun intended: My first Government/Polical Science professor said that, Politics is the study of whose ox is being gored.

I love Cenk Uygur. I agree with him, here. They should all be arrested. So many of our leaders are such incredible hypocrites, not to mention corrupt. Even Obama, I used to look down on Obama when I was a conservative and part of the “counter Jihad,” now ironically, I’m starting to look down on him for the opposite reasons. The only thing that might get me to vote this election is that Obama will probably be marginally better than Romney, and even that I’m not one hundred percent sure of. If our government was full of much more ethical people, stuff like this wouldn’t happen. An ethical congress would impeach Obama, for what he’s doing here, and an ethical president would chastise the people in congress, who took money from MEK. I guess politics doesn’t favor the ethical.

I know its bizzare . I mentioned before I have even had dealing with these fools. They tried to recruit among an Iranian refugee community I worked with in the North of England , a group containing no friends of the current Iranian leaders I might add . My clients asked me to send a video of them handing out leaflets to the police Special Branch because they were terrorists :-)
    So I did :-) :-)

    @Sir David,

That is one of the craziest aspects of this story. These high-level current and former politicians KNOW that the MEK is really reviled and detested in Iran, but they don’t care.

It seems that in order to pressure the Iranian regime the US gov. is willing to do anything in its power and use anything at its disposal.

Of course the merry band of Patriots and flag-wavers will cheer this on too, just like they cheered the erosion of civil liberties with the Patriot Act.

  • Garibaldi

@Al, excellent point. What if the MEK come into power after regime change in Iran and return to an ideology of hostility against the USA? It’s happened before–it’s called blowback.

I hate to say it but I share your pessimism. They will of course just pass a law or a presidential decree validating all of their activities with the MEK.

  • BuddhaShrink

    Hypocrisisy does run deep.

Here’s another example of hypocrisy: We are now concerned about the torture that is taking place in Syria and conducted by its government. But it was not that long along that the U.S. government was actually “renditioning” – flying people on “Ghost Planes” to Syria – to be tortured. “Ghost Plane” by the Canandian Stephen Grey is a good read in which this is described and documented.

MEK , the main opposition ?
Not in their wildest dreams. They are reviled everywhere by everyone, my Iranian freinds regard them as christians do the moonies , a cult with political overtones run by one family . Mad, Bad and dangerous to know .
The history of the USA financing people who later turn against them goes back to Vietnam

“War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.”

  • crow

Yes arrest all the politicians who took money from mek…it wont happen…everyone knows terrorism isn’t terrorism when its the US or israel doing it.

  • Al

And if we delist the MEK and continue to finance them, whats to stop them from attacking US interests once their power base is solidified? Didn’t we see a similar chain of events surrounding the Afghan war of the 80’s when Bin Laden and Al-Zahwahari formed al-Qaida?
