Spanish city’s ban on Islamic veils overturned

It looks like Lleida realized that there wasn’t a “burqa crisis.”

Spanish city’s ban on Islamic veils overturned

A Spanish court has overturned a city’s ban on wearing face-covering Islamic veils in municipal buildings, saying it infringes religious liberties.

In 2010, Lleida, in the northeastern region of Catalonia, became the first Spanish town to impose such a ban. It was temporarily suspended by a regional court following an appeal by a Muslim association but then later upheld.

Spain‘s supreme court on Thursday accepted a second appeal and said the city was not entitled to order such a ban.

It said that in line with Spanish and European rulings, such a prohibition must be based on a law, which does not exist in Spain at present.

The Lleida ban was largely symbolic since only about 3% of its population are Muslims and very few wear such garments.

That is also true again. People do become most savage when backed into a corner.

The number of these lone wolves has never been great and I think will decrease in time without the fertiliser of hate pumped out by Geller and co.
They know in their hearts that their time has passed and that their numbers will fall as their howls echo un heard on the internet alone………………………

  • Bad news is there is another possibility. Some of them do realize that they’re failing and instead of just giving up, they get desperate and turn to violence and attack and maybe even murder innocent people like Anders Brevik. The anti Muslim “counter Jihad” might not end with a whimper after all in the worst case scenario. Even on a much smaller scale that would be horrible. I just hope that doesn’t happen, but give the nature of the “counter jihad” that might happen. If some of the true believers actually begin to realize their movement is doomed who knows what they’ll do. We better be prepared.

That is also true. There will probably be Counter Jihad Kharijites. But hey, that’ll work to our advantage. They will become a laughing stock.

  • Hopefully you’re right. It doesn’t seem that way to me through.

Truth is, even if it slowly fades into irrelevance. They may never admit it no matter how obvious it becomes to everyone else.

Alot of muslims forget the point of our dressing rules.

Indeed. The counter jihad is slowly dying. Even the counter jihadists wont be able to deny it soon.

I hope this marks a good turning point for Muslims in Europe. I hope the French laws regarding the veil are overturned as well, although I say this with the caveat that a full veil in Islam is not required. The key tenet for Muslim men and women is modesty in dressing, one far from any lust-inducing forms of dressing.

Thank god, let religious freedom reign

  • Glad it was too. They’re probably people in the “counter jihad” fuming over this.

A bit of a pointless ban but glad to see its been lifted.
