Toronto Board of Rabbis Denounce Pamela Geller

pg wtf

A very welcome condemnation of Pamela Geller by prominent Toronto area Rabbis.

One small issue I have is with describing Geller’s activities as “criticism.” Criticism is not the right word but understandably the more accurate “batsh** crazy rants” to describe Geller’s activities wouldn’t fit the professional language required of an official press release.:

Toronto Board of Rabbis Denounce Pamela Geller

Toronto Board of Rabbis

May 13, 2012

The Toronto Board of Rabbis (TBR) expresses its profound disappointment that a local Jewish organization has extended an invitation to Pamela Geller, a blogger who is known for her extreme criticism of Muslims in language that is intended to shock and ridicule.

The TBR is a strong supporter of freedom of speech for all, including Ms. Geller. Ms. Geller’s voice and message are already well known here in Canada and beyond. There was no sense in inviting her here to Toronto to speak before a Jewish audience. Sadly the only sure result of this event will be increasing tensions within the Jewish community and between Jews and Muslims in Toronto.

The TBR, which represents rabbis from all denominations of Judaism, wishes to make clear to all that it finds the invitation distasteful, just as it finds Ms. Geller’s views distasteful. We dissociate ourselves from the actions of the radical fringe Jewish group that extended the invitation. We call for more events here in Toronto that will build up friendship and understanding between local Jews and Muslims.

Shalom, Jerry. As another Jew, I am curious on what you mean by proof and if you would be concerned with a certain blogger’s statements that could affect Jews who eat kosher food.

This blogger has railed against “meat slaughtered by means of a torturous method: [… Such] slaughter involves cutting the trachea, the esophagus, and the jugular vein, and letting the blood drain out.” Do you agree that such statements, which can be used to demonize kosher meat, are unacceptable?

The blogger goes further, stating, that many people “don’t
want to eat [such slaughtered meat] (and understandably so), but Americans are forced to — unwittingly, of course, but forced to nonetheless, because [that] meat does not have to be labeled [as such] if it is not being sold as [as such]. Pointing out this glaring violation of consumer” rights. Again, such a statement, which would indict kosher meat is problematic. Do you agree?

The blogger also argued that McDonald’s should not pay a penalty for falsely mislabeling meat as meeting certain religious dietary rules since it was likely an accident. I bet a lot of kosher-observant Jews would be upset by such a view. Do you think that if a restaurant falsely advertises food as kosher it should not have to pay a penalty?

If you agree that these statements would be proof that the blogger is spreading animosity against a religion, then perhaps we can use that as a basis for examining Ms. Geller’s statements to see how different they are.

I pity you Jerry, sent over here to try and sanitize Pamela Geller–a hopeless cause.

Geller wants the Golden Dome destroyed, do you support that?

  • I can imagine.

This isnt going well in malaysia, especially where I live. There was once an ‘internent camp’ here during the occupation by Japan of Malaysia. This kind of inslavement was not confined to Chinese and Korean women. Everywhere the Japanese occupied, they did this kind of thing to the women citizens of that country.

  • yeah I know. People justify some truly messed up, evil stuff, especially in time of war. Luckily it sounds like people across the world, including In Japan are condemning Hashimoto.

Comfort women? Necessary? What did God give people hands for?

  • Reynardine

Well, no, you can’t say “bat shit crazy” in a dignified publication, but “defamation” or “hate speech” would be more accurate than “extreme criticism”.

that looks like a good “what if they were muslim” after all if a muslim had said this the outrage from anti muslim favorites would be seen.

  • I know this is off topic, but speaking of people who need to be condemned, this might make a good, “What If They were Muslims” post.

    necessary. Anyone can understand that.”
