Hindutva Activists Care More About Cows Than Humans

Hindutva “art”

Is India now a nation that reveres cows more than it does human beings? In India you can be killed on the allegation that you are eating or selling cows. Ironically enough India is also the largest exporter of beef in the world.

A Muslim man has died in western India after he was attacked by hundreds of Hindu cow protection vigilantes, the latest attack in a spate of mob killings in the name of the revered animal.

Police said on Wednesday that Pehlu Khan, 55, had died in hospital two days after a group attacked his cattle truck on a road in Alwar in the desert state of Rajasthan.

Gangs of “cow protectors” have been implicated in killing at least 10 people in the past two years as the welfare of the animal has become an increasingly charged issue in Indian politics.

Cows are revered by most of India’s majority Hindu community and beef consumption is permitted in only eight of the country’s 29 states and territories.

Yes, why just that small strip of land around Neum? After all, at some time a sizeable part of the Dalmatian coast was part of the Ottoman eyalet of Bosnia, but maybe after the campaign of Prince Eugene of Savoy in 1683 that canged hands; I’d have to look it up; fortunately I have good books

Yes, Akbar surely was a humanist and I think Shah Jahan too. Of course each situation was different. Yet tehre are parallele. History has shown that (until Daesh came along) Muslims in Muslim-majority lands mostly behaved better to non-Muslim minorities than Christian majorities (to a lesser degree Hindus, and Jews only after 1948) towards Muslim minorities (see Spain in the 15th-17th centuries and [former] Yugoslavia in the 20th century, as the most striking and most parallel examples)

    • I watched a travel show and wondered why so much choice land appeared to go to Croatia, leaving just a small port for Bosnia.

Most people are lazy thinkers but for me, everyone who accepts fascism is malicious. Even if they think they’re not. Even if they’re really just lazy thinkers. They’re fascists, then they’re evil and that’s that. They have condemned themselves. They deserve no mercy and no quarter. No questions asked and no benefit of the doubt. Only if they ask for forgiveness and honestly and credibly distance themselves from fascism, only if they are willing to make up for the evil that they or their friends committed in the name of their nation, can they be shown any consideration. If not, let them suffer the fate they intend for their victims. May they, not us, disappear from the face of the Earth. May they, not us, be thrown on the rubbish heap of history. I offer peace to everyone who wants to keep peace with me. Who wants war, shall get it. I’m not willing to turn the other cheek. I’m not willing to give my shirt too to the one who wants my coat. Who asks such of me, insults and offends me, indeed, I must assume that he wants to hit and rob me himself. I cannot but regard such people as my enemies.

Well, the Serbs see it as “land division.” The Bosniaks with more justification, as what it is, as “land theft.” All of Eastern Bosnia that now is “RS” had a majority of Bosniaks before the war. Serbs were 30-40% if the population, at most.

History has shown again and again that the QUOTE sense of ‘revenge’ against Muslims for ruling over them UNQUOTE is just a pretext for land grab, robbery and dispossession. So it was in 15th-16th century Spain and in Bosnia-Herzegovina 500 years later. In India and in Burma it’s no different either.

    • Friend of Bosnia

It’s more that that, it’s fascism pure and simple. And it’s just about land grab, robbery and dispossession. That’s all. Words cannot express how much revulsion and hate – yes, all-out hate – I feel for people (people?) who do that.

Japan is a pretty hegemonic society and it seems that most don’t know much more about Islam and Muslims besides the usual stereotypes. I will point out that there are some real influential Islamic studies scholars who are Japanese such as Izutusu.

    • GaribaldiOfLoonwatch

I agree. The parallels are NOT the same. Partition is not the same as colonization and settlement. Muslims were not migrating for a Muslim nationalist project from elsewhere to the subcontinent, they were there for thousands of years. I was reading Hannah Arendt’s Origins on Totalitarianism and was surprised to see her use this example as well. It seems a lot of individuals fall for it. If its not malicious its usually laziness.

    • GaribaldiOfLoonwatch

It wasn’t in my estimation only about convenience. It was in part due to necessity, there was an overwhelming Hindu population and practically to run the empire they had to promote harmony, that’s why many Hindus were patronized and included in government and military. Also, it is true that many of the Moghul rulers were actually humanists, check out the great work “The Last Mughal” by William Dalrymple. I won’t lay the blame for all these events at the feet of non-Muslims, each situation was different.

    • mindy1

Cows are now seen above non Hindu PEOPLE, how messed up is that?!?!?! They remind me of PETA with a dash of religious/nationalistic fervor thrown in. >:(

    • cmyfe .

I’m glad to hear your opinion. The idea of united India was meant to assimilate Muslims into the Hindu culture by democratic tyranny and eventually making them lose their religion. Shuddi movement is an open example.

Although Pakistan has struggled to fulfill the purpose and potential it posesses but InshaAllah it will get there or make way for a bigger power to emerge.

    • cmyfe .

Not the same argument at all. The Muslims of sub continent weren’t brought from other parts of the world. They were local. Also, Jinnah was actually pro unity but when Congress won the elections he saw that Muslims would have to lose their identity in order to live in a united India. He presented 14 points to safeguard some interests of Muslims but those were denied by the Hindu majority politicians. There are many reasons for the behavour of Hindus against Muslims including a sense of ‘revenge’ against Muslims for ruling over them.

Let’s hope not. You see, fascism has become fashionable again worldwide, like in the 1930s. Based on the facts that the Austrians didn’t elect a populist candidate as their new President; that the Dutch did not elect Geert Wilders after all; that the AfD in Germany has lost points; that Trump can’t do just as he pleases after all; can we say that fascism is again on the wane? Maybe it’s too early for that, but let’s keep our fingers crossed. As I have said before, why is it that the Japanese treated their Russian POWs of the war of 1905 and their German POWs of WW I quite humanely; and the Allied POWs of WW II so beastly? (But then, they always behaved beastly to the Chinese. btw I wonder if there’s so much islamophobia in Japan as elsewhere; considering that there are so few Muslims in Japan.

    • Friend of Bosnia

Yes, there must have been a sort of convivencia. Not because the Moghul rulers were humanists but because it was convenient. Yet it worked. After all, the proportion of Muslims in India was rather small, even at the height of the Mughal Empire. Yet, peaceful coexistence was possible – until the non-Muslims decided to shatter it, for their own gain. And to rob and kill as many people as they could, whose only fault was their forename. Like in Al Andalus. Like in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

    • Friend of Bosnia

No, this goes too far. To justify murder with that. Apart from that I find regarding cattle as sacred is pretty ridiculous, but I respect everyone’s beliefs – as long as they don’t attack me for mine. Who does that deserves to be hit on the head. And very hard too.

    • I really dislike parallels drawn between Israel and Pakistan because, whatever the justification for creating a separate state, the difference between land *division* land *theft* is an abyss.

    • AJ

I am not sure about your argument. Are you saying that the issue of religious freedom was used to create Israel?

    • JD

That is the same argument for Israel( which I understand were they are coming from but Dont agree with the location of israel or it’s refusal to declare final borders ) better idea would be to stop taking things to the extreme try to get along

    • AJ

News like this make me happy that Pakistan was created. God bless Jinnah and Iqbal and all others that made Pakistan a reality. Ameen. They realized that Muslims needed a separate nation to retain any similitude of religious freedom.

    • GaribaldiOfLoonwatch

Hindustan actually is not the term that is pushed by Hindutva, rather the term that is pushed is Bharat to keep in line with some Hindu scriptures. Hindustan was actually used by the Delhi Sultanate and Moghuls as a term to describe their empires. It was also what Indian Muslims, Hindus etc. rallied around during the Sepoy Rebellion and is one that speaks to a history of convivencia.

    • Joey Sanders

Bollywood has been pushing the Hindutva thing for years without realizing it. By actors calling India “Hindustan” it played into the very hands of the radicals.

The problem with India is that there are over one billion people in the country. They have a large number of educated people in their population, but India’s population consists of a large uneducated mass as well within their ranks. This is going to be a rising problem in India for years to come.

Also, the War on Terror also plays a role in this as well. Many Hindus worship whiteness due to the years under colonial occupation. If you don’t believe me, keep in mind there is a sizable market in the country to purchase cosmetics that makes one’s skin look lighter. If they think white people hate Muslims, then they will go along with the hatred as well.

    • cmyfe .

This is sad news but I am not surprised. Expect more of this. Let these times be known as fulfilled predictions of the Muslims of sub-continent.

    • Heinz Catsup

I support animal rights but, like with PETA’s methods, this isn’t the way to go about it.

    • GaribaldiOfLoonwatch

Reports of these kinds of attacks have become more frequent. Has Hindutvazation of India reached a point of no return, is India’s secular democracy nears its last days?
