This study obliterates the myth that Muslims are more violent

Despite the fact that the following article speciously argues that western foreign policy isn’t a major contributing factor in violent extremism (a fact that even former MI-5 head acknowledged) it does a good job of relating professor M. Steven Fish’s study on whether “Muslims are more violent” than others.

This study obliterates the myth that Muslims are more violent

Updated by Zack Beauchamp

Whenever the subject of Islamist terrorism comes up, the national conversation almost always circles back to a somewhat bigoted question: are Muslims more violent than other kinds of people because of their religion?

What these conversations usually lack is data; that is, evidence that Muslim societies are actually more violent than other ones. And it turns out, according to UC-Berkeley Professor M. Steven Fish, that judging by murder rates, people in Muslim-majority countries actually tend to be significantly less violent (bolding is mine):

Predominantly, Muslim countries average 2.4 murders per annum per 100,000 people, compared to 7.5 in non-Muslim countries. The percentage of the society that is made up of Muslims is an extraordinarily good predictor of a country’s murder rate. More authoritarianism in Muslim countries does not account for the difference. I have found that controlling for political regime in statistical analysis does not change the findings. More Muslims, less homicide.

Fish further fleshed out these findings, for example by re-running the numbers to exclude non-Muslim-majority states with extraordinarily high murder rates (Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Lesotho, South Africa, and Venezuela). Countries with lots of Muslims were still less murder prone by a pretty large margin. You can read more details on Fish’s findings in his book, titled Are Muslims Distinctive?

If Islam itself were in fact the key cause of Islamist terrorism, you’d expect ordinary Muslims to be more violent than ordinary non-Muslims. There are over a billion believing Muslims globally; if their religion were intrinsically prone to violence, the data would bear that out. In fact, it does nothing of the sort.

Cenk Ugyur of the Young Turks ran a segment on the Fisher’s report.

Notice the comments are predominantly anti-Muslim and anti-Islam with Cenk even being called a “secret Muslim”:

That’s nothing. Wait till they say Adolf Bush and Benjamin Flippinyahoo are Muslims too and only killed so many Muslims to give a bad name to their countries.
In fact it is possible that every non-Muslim is a Muslim pretending to be a non-Muslim. Taqiyyah virus has taken over the world.

But, according to this news site

Islamophobes are actually muslims practicing taqiyyah

  • Capt. JB Hennessy

What’s interesting to note is that none of the Islamophobes take mental illness into account for a Muslim that kills someone, its always religiously motivated terrorism.

You’ll never hear that Iraq after ten years of brutal occupation, where even pencils were banned along with medicine would ever have a mentally ill person. All you will here is, “Islam caused them to kill”.

In other words, someone who fought in Vietnam can go completely nuts but someone born and raised in Gaza who saw his parents, brothers, sisters, cousins killed and read of cheering and applauding israelis sitting on hill top can’t suffer from rage, anger, frustration and hate. It’s only when he reads the Quran he will do that.

And Bill Maher believes the very same all the while hailing himself as an intelligent science and fact embracing Atheist. Go figure.

This is research Jihad done by using Professor X level Taqiyyah (mind control of Fish).

This is an interesting video on the definition of Terrorism and the difference between it and violent crimes

They’ll accuse Mr. Fish of being “A Leftist, Pinko-Commie, Islamophile” or what ever and keep on blindly supporting the likes of Steve ‘No-go’ Emerson.

Now all the haters will say the data is fudged

  • … and it’s about time we start discussing violent crimes by Muslims acting out a personal agenda in the fields of criminology and criminal justice — not national and international security of nations and states!

  • Well, murders and violent crimes by Muslims acting out some personal religious agenda are “terrorism,” and with the label of “terrorism” comes a different set of narratives, discourses and discussions on the level of national and international security. Calling violent crimes by Muslims an “attack on our freedoms” and “an attack on our nation” have a method to their madness. Note that only violent crimes by Muslims are treated in this way. Same violent crimes by non-Muslims NEVER enters national security discourses, but are left up to local police and courts.

If a Muslim murders out a personal religious motives, it enters national security discourse almost as if there was an attack on the country and the state by another country or state.

It’s not only insane rubbish – it’s discrimination against Muslims of the highest order!
