It seems like Geert Wilders racism and anti-Muslim discourse is going to catch up with him, but don’t hold your breath.

The most popular Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders asked judges today 13 January 2010 during his first meeting at court for mitigation to reduce the penalty regarding his accusation of Islamophobia.The far-right Dutch politician who is known for his hate for Muslims and Islam and who was once denied entry to the British territory at London – Heathrow airport by the immigration officials because of his racist views towards the Islamic religion, asked judges to drop or reduce charges against him since his racist discourse is met with freedom of speech right.
The suspect is facing charges because of hate crime based on his intolerance and insulting Muslims as a group which makes of his trail very serious with few chances to be discharged or acquitted within the course of justice.
At Amsterdam District Court, Wilders tried to politicize his trial saying that the session was “the first day of a political trial” in an attempt to associate his trail to political agenda of his party in a way to avoid or win the public support
The most popular politician in Netherland built his Freedom Party movement on anti-immigrant and anti-Islam principals while calling for banning the Quran in the Netherlands and deny entry to any immigrant to the country as well as taxing clothing commonly worn by Muslims, such as headscarves, because they “pollute” the Dutch landscape.
In retrospect to the year 2008, Geert Wilders linked Quran verses with terrorism and violence in his 17 minutes in length film “Fitna” . The MP Geert Wilders has been extended to include inciting hatred against Moroccans and non-Western immigrants
If found guilty Wilders could face a maximum sentence of two years in prison, though a fine of up to euro18, 500 ($26,800) can apply.

This issue is a little shaky for me. The public is divided on this issue to, and the islamiphobes themselves call it a “trial on free speech.” as a Muslim I despise geert wilders, but he has freedom of speech. At the same time, he’s a VERY influential politician, an apparently he abused his postion and freedom of speech by inciting hatred. I think geert wilders will be found innocent and the charges dropped. But if he is found guilty, I’ll be pretty happy as a Muslim.
Pretty ironic how the trial is only 2 days after MLK day.

Mashallah. We Muslims should take note from this. Instead of rioting in the streets like mad men Allah took care of this imbecile himself. He shamed him and his naive movie “Fitna” to garner worldwide condemnation. The Prime Minister of the Netherlands sent a letter to Al-Azhar university telling them that his good country is not anti-Islam. His movie only resulted in swooning the usual anti-Islamists. Now look at him, whether he goes to jail or not this man will have this stain on his record forever. We Muslims should peacefully condemn people like this for Allah is with us.

I am of the opinion that Geert Wilders is in fact looking forward to this criminal prosection. As are the rest of the Western World.
You see, in this trial, the koran will be exposed for all the world to see - that is what the Trial will be about - what is in the koran.
And since it no doubt contains “hate speech” - 61% of the text is brutal, condemning, hateful and threatening to the kafir/unbeliever - well, you get the picture now I am sure.
The muslims should be careful what they wish for in regards to this prosection - they just might get it.

Islam is a race? Is Christianity a race? Do Muslims hate black Christians as much as they hate white Christians? I have heard that Arab Muslims look down on black Muslims and even take them as slaves in Sudan, and that they also look down on Asian Muslims. It is very confusing.
As for Geert, I think that national borders mean something, and that after all, Muslim countries, which have just as much space as any other countries, should remain “home” for Muslims. Why move to countries whose people you don’t approve of and who are suspicious of you, because they have read your history, and feel uncomfortable with your disapproval (the violent riots are a bit offputting, too.)
A rhetorical question, of course. It is greed, something Muslims pretend only Westerners have.

It isn’t so much that Wilders criticises Islam, it’s that he is a paid stooge of foreign elements. Also his hypocricy in saying his free speech rights are being trampled upon whilst calling for a ban on the Quran. That, and the fact that as a politician he was behaving like a bigoted hooligan (robert spencer, pam geller type) means he is abusing his position.
He doesn’t deserve to be a politican, he should emigrate to Israel and take up Israeli citizenship with the Kahanists there, (israeli loons) or better yet, move to America, maybe Pam Geller can house him, or even marry him. Kahanism is actually more rife in America than in Israel.
What puzzles me is something else. Has anyone else noted this too?

You would think that a politician that is funded by Israeli American extremists as Geert Wilders has been, would also be up on trial for treason, after all the neo con agenda, is not only anti American, it’s certainly anti European and anti Dutch. Royal Dutch shell, and Uni lever warned him when he released Fitna, that if their goods suffered sales in Muslim countries they would sue him. That is probably why he released a tamer version of Fitna than he had originally planned. Fitna was actually a tame movie, and DUtch Muslim TV channels did offer to air it. Wilders refused, primarily because he wanted to paint himself a victim of censorship, but he had the rug pulled out from under his feet, as Dutch Muslims didn’t respond the way he wanted them to.
Geert Wilders has been to Israel 42 times, and is funded by American loonies. Why isn’t he being sued for that?
Do we have anyone here familiar with Dutch law? In most countries, certainly EU ones, politicians cannot accept funds from foreign elements.

I’d rather see him continually embarrass himself in front of the world, which he does an excellent job at, instead of being made a martyr by the government throwing him in jail. Islamophobia is racism repackaged. It’s stereotyped as a race, usually Arab or Pakistani. Islam is seen as the religion of the non-whites by the Islamophobes. Whenever they post propaganda pictures of Muslims, why is it never a Bosnian or Russian or Indonesian? It’s always an Arab, Afgahn, or Pakistani. There’s a reason for that. If Muslims are stereotyped as a race, then it is racist to be anti-Muslim. And anti-Islam = anti-Muslim. There’s no distinction. If you hate Islam, then you’re going to hate followers of a religion you hate. It’s that simple.

Of course Muslims aren’t completely innocent, some of them are just as discriminatory towards other groups. And just so you know, there are Muslims who don’t come from the Middle East. Where are they supposed to go?
I agree that some Muslims are crazy, and I can understand how non-Muslims feel. But to say that we shouldn’t live in a non-Muslim country because of our history (which is twisted by the polemics to appear as “evil”) is ridiculous. It reminds me of the times when some countries didn’t welcome Jewish people because the people of those countries were suspicious of them.
I know a few Muslims who are greedier than some Americans I know. And most Muslims don’t move to foreign countries out of greed. Ask any Muslim interested in going to a foreign country, and most likely they’ll give you reasons like better education opportunities, interesting cultures, ect.

Actually a great deal of anti-muslim bigots hate muslims irregardless of skin color; on sites like jihad watch you can find material denying the Bosniak genocide and demonizing muslim Bosniaks who are *drum roll* White. Also Spencer (who claims that Ratko Mladic and company ‘opposed jihad’) as this site has pointed hates Turks; a great deal of whom are White.

On jihad watch you can find anti-Albanian articles one describes Albanians in general as terrorists. In another Spencer whines about alleged Albanian collaboration with nazis; despite the fact that Albania had high rates of Jewish survival while Serbia has a great deal of nazi collaboration which is why it was the first country the nazis proclaimed to be ‘free of Jews’. I’m coming to agree with Yusuf’s point. On jihad watch, geert wilders is already anti dhimmi of the year. I think tho there are two reasons why geert wilders should get the trial rather then Robert Spencer or geller.
1; he’s a politician with great nfluence and he abused it.
2: fitna was horrible. It was basically a propaganda film resembling something hitler mite do. Geert wilders is just a bigot, but the funny thin is, he’s like a bigot u find in the grocery store: he has no reason to hate Muslims other then them being Muslims. Spencer on the other hand, while also a bigot, is much better at making seemingly and deceptivly logical arguments that play off of ignorance in Islam.
I saw the first part of fitna where he compares verse 8:60 to 911. This is my response:
8:60: Against them make ready your strength to te utmost power, including Steeds of war, to strike terror into the hearts of the enemy (there’s more, but this is just what geert quoted of verse 8:60)
8:61: But I’d the enemy incline toward peace, do thou also incline toward peace, and trust in Allah.
Geert only quoted verse 8:60 and showed it with 911.

That’s true. But you can not deny that racism is a huge factor in the hatred of Muslims. IMO it boils down to Islam being one of the few things that the West has not been able to Anglicize. Islam is still standing despite a 1000 year war against it (physically, intellectually, economically, etc.) They resent that. They’ve failed to distort the religion.

That may have been true of old Byzantium, which actually lay on the probable route of a Muslim invasion of Europe, and which was why the Fourth Crusade was such a dreadful own goal for Christendom. Israel is only strategically important to the West in an offensive sense, not a defensive one.

I’ve hear people ask me that before, and some ppl even mix them up entirly; for instance, someone will ask me if I speak Islam (or Muslim) instead of Arabic (im a proud Syrian). I disagree, Russian Muslims do complain of discrimination from their fellow citizens, but then again so do Christians, if you talk to Christians there they will say the same, and so will Jews. Atheists too say they’e the most discriminated against.
I know European and English converts to Islam who say they fear discrimination, so colour of skin is not the issue, it’s not racism. Yes, Russian and East European Muslims too, do report Islamophobia, from their own white skinned people. American WASP converts have said since their conversion they suffer discrimination so i don’t think it’s to do with skin colour here.
Bear in mind the reverse is true as well. It’s not like racism doesn’t exist in Muslim countries it does. But then you cannot blame Islam on it like Islamophobes do…
I think it’s a basic human flaw, to set oneself apart using a standard of measurement, if not religion, then colour of skin, if not that, then sstatus in society, and remember there is also Black racism too, against whites, and in China, many Chinese are biased against white and black people. They think the Chinese race is superior to all.
So i think racism exists everywhere,in all cultures, the better amongst us, understand it and deal with it, but some don’t and it manifests itself. It’s just one of those things we know exists in life.

It matters how people perceive Muslims to be. The usual anti-Muslim bigot thinks of an Arab or Pakistani when they think “Muslim”. White Muslims like Bosnians, Russians, and white converts are seen as traitors for following the religion of the “other”. Race definitely plays a factor in Islamophobia. Although some Muslims are white, they aren’t perceived as white anymore for choosing the stereotyped “brown” religion. That’s the point.

Once again the criticism the story recieved doesn’t compare since the journalist was not in danger of being imprisoned. As for your links the first one contains this rather interesting quote:
“There is no evidence to support the Swedish claim that Israeli soldiers killed Palestinians expressly for their organs.”
The second one doesn’t contain any evidence; the author basically says while he thinks it’s possible he wants to see more evidence.

Actually the hatred of White muslims stems from anti-Turkish (who are primarily white) sentiment; European muslims were and are hated by people belonging to certain ethnic groups because they see those muslims are being the ‘pawns’ of the Ottoman empire and being guilty of crimes committed by muslims against ‘their people’. For example the Greeks who took part in the Srebrenica genocide did so because they saw it as ‘payback’ for the Greek genocide, despite the fact that Bosniaks had no involvement in it.

The ‘anti-muslim bigotry = racism’ arguments also fails completely because of middle eastern ethnic groups who are traditionally muslim, Kurds, Persians (khomeini was about as white as it gets), Turks, Circassians etc.

So now DrM has to explain why he writes what he does at his blog, whilst Cassidy himself is sly enough to not let us know anyting about himself, or why he posts here. Note Cassidy doesn’t debate DrM at his blog.

Before anyone accuses me of trying to suppress free speech, i am not. i have never called for the banning of Islamophobes here, simply because they’re Islamophobic, but this Cassidy is very sly. He goes about his propoganda, in a way that makes him seem like he is our friend, and we need to put up with his nonsense. Well we don’t. I for one, dont have time to read this irritating character, he brings nothing of value here and i’m sure all here feel the same.
I’d rather read Dolly, or Lou, or Durendal, or Milad, or KafirhARBY and other Islamophobes, at least it tells us what we’re up against, and they don’t pretend to be our friends, but this deceiver pretends to be on our side, whilst riduculing everything we hold dear, and endorising everything we find offensive, and in the process makes it seem like WE are the criminals.
But this is a forum for fighting Islamophobia, we expect to find pro-Islamic and anti-Islamic people. What we don’t expect is to read post after post by someone who is here to intimidate posters, whilst putting on an air of false concern, and human rights, promoting gay culture, saying religion is anti science at every opportunity, saying circumcision is “genital mutiliation” in a club full of monotheists, (this is not a medical debate society) he even thinks being anti-Judaism excuses his covering up neo crimes, when Islam actually is almost the same as Judaism. He covers the crimes of neo cons, whilst trying to intimidate Loon Watch writers for quoting Norman Finklestein, and basically uses this website for vomiting his garbage.
I am not calling for opposing views to be banned, and enemies not allowed to post, but the deceptions and lies and dodging that Cassidy indulges in, as well as the obsessive posting at website that fights Islamophobia is more than suspicous.
This poster, has been here trying to intimidate Joachim Martillo and DrMaxtor amongst others, yet he doesn’t debate Drm or Joachim at their own blogs. Why not? Why has he chosen Loon Watch to propogate his garbage, which none of here want to hear?
He also distorts, and is desperate to get people here to email him/her at the wilburwhitely id, he propogates here.

Wow, I look at all the comments here and wonder how old some of you are. Not to insult you, but to understand where you were in the 50s and the 60s when Western sociaty celebrated Islam and it shows in your movies with Elvis chasing a girl in Arabia! Now that the Soviet Union is gone, the cold war is dead, Sadam is killed, Castro is useless and even Afghanistan is destroyed (once again), looks like the Westen civilization has identified Islam as their next foe. Also I’m not anti-Judaism, as I clearly stated I support reform and liberal Judaism, I’ve never intimidated anyone, I’ve never covered up any crimes or put on an ‘air of false concern’ and yes I’ve mentioned LGBT people here a few times, so what?
