Goel Ratzon is an Israeli with some heterodox beliefs, his actions are clearly outside of mainstream Judaism, but imagine if he had been from a Muslim country what would the media reaction be? Of course we know how Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller would react they would say this is “normative” Islam, but of course we won’t hear a peep out of them on this story.
Israeli living with 17 women arrested for enslavement and rape
A Tel Aviv man who has been living with 17 women with whom he fathered 38 children was arrested on Monday on suspicion of enslavement, rape, extortion by threat and sexual assault of minors, among other charges, police said after a gag order was lifted on the case.
Police launched an undercover investigation into the suspect, Goel Ratzon, in June 2009 after receiving a complaint about abuse from one of his “wives.”
Ratzon, 60, allegedly subjected his family to strict disciplinary measures, but has claimed that the women and children lived with him on their own accord.

More than a year ago, Channel 10 aired a documentary on Ratzon and his many wives, which gained widespread attention and criticism after he said that there had been several attempts at collective suicide after some of the women thought he was going to leave them. Also in the film, some of the women said they would commit mass suicide if anyone tried to harm their leader.
Wary of mass suicide, police were accompanied to his home by social workers and psychologists on Monday so as to avoid hysteria and any attempts at mass suicide after his arrest.
Police confiscated a rule book by which Ratzon forced his family to abide. The women were forbidden to communicate with men, be in physical contact with their biological family, eat meat, smoke, drink alcohol or dress immodestly.
Ratzon is considered by his companions to be the savior (Goel in Hebrew) of the universe, and is attributed godly and supernatural abilities. Many of the women have tattooed his name and portrait to several parts of their bodies.
The names of every one of Ratzon’s children include his own first name. For instance, one of his sons is called Avinu Ha-Goel (our father the savior) and he has a daughter named Tehilat Ha-Goel (glory of the savior).

Philip Green, is a Rabbi in England, UK, who hit the headlines for having many wives and children. Unlike Goel Ratzon, in the story above, he didn’t rape or enslave, all his “wives” are consenting adults.

Never heard anything about always being sexually available. One time, a man came to the prophet Muhammad while he was brushing his teeth and asked him what he can beat his wife with. He said with a toothbrush, and some scholars even say only a hamkerchief. When I comes to respect in the family, the prophet said, first is ur mother, and then ur mother, and then ur mother, and then ur father, “Verily, heaven is at ur mother’s feet”

First off the Torah accepts slavery so I don’t really see how this ‘man’s’ revolting crimes are opposed to Judaism of course we can safely say that his disgusting views are not shared by the vast majority of Jews.

What are you talking about? Some Saudis were keeping a teenage girl as a sex slave (in the same country that had slavery until the 1960s and were slaves were bought as souvenirs by people on hajj) and it wasn’t a major scandal in fact it got minimal coverage at best. Also the media doesn’t seem to care that Mauritania isn’t taking practical steps to ensure its abolition in practice.

Not Imad: Do you think they had “toothbrushes” in Mohammed’s day? I am sure he referred to the stick they used in those days - wooden stick, still actually used in some places - about as thick as my little finger. If not cut up in little pieces but used as a switch, the pain inflicted could be quite severe. I can’t believe how many people go for this “toothbrush” story, as if little plastic toothbrushes were around in the 7th century.

have u ever been hit by a 7th century toothbrush? How can u judge? Also, if he said toothbrush, and I use a plastic toothbrush, then in a modern context I can only beat my wife with a harmless plastic toothbrush.

You and “Not Imad” are both wrong. Muhammad suggested a miswak (which can be used as a toothbrush, which is a clipping of a tree branch no longer than an index finger. I seriously doubt that would hurt anyone at all.

My younger brother has hit me with his miswak before (when I pushed him out of the way so that I could use the mirror) it does not hurt.. it’s more of a “BOO!” type thing. And before people think ohh.. he’s just a little kid… he’s 17. Getting hit with a hand hurts more.
