2010 has been an unbelievable year! Can we say that we are happy that it is finally over? Only if that means that the wacky anti-Muslim Islamophobia that reached unprecedented and at times demented levels will recede. However, it doesn’t appear as though that will be happening any time soon.
Looking at the year in review we see that right-leaning and populist anti-Muslim/xenophobic organizations and party’s increased their power/influence across Europe while also initiating and passing discriminatory legislation in their countries.
- Rise of Geert Wilders and the Freedom Party
- EDL (English Defense League)
- Sweden Democrats
- Switzerland’s banning of Minarets
- BZO Austria
- Pia Kjaersgaard (DF)
- France and the face veil controversy
- Belgium’s banning of the face veil
- Catalonia face veil proposal
In the United States we saw the convergence and solidifying of a network of Islamophobes across the nation who joined arms with their brethren across the Atlantic ocean. We were also treated to the Republican party’s instrumentalization and usage of Islam for purposes of fear-mongering during the the run-up to the 2010 elections; add to this mosque controversies, hate crimes, anti-Muslim rallies and your run of the mill nuke Mecca suggestion and you had 2010.
The beginning of the year saw a slew of hate crimes, it also saw our piece, “All Terrorists are Muslim…Except the 94% that Aren’t,” go viral and become one of our most popular pieces ever, getting picked up by various mainstream media outlets.

Joseph Stack's attack
Events picked up shortly after that with Joseph Stack flying his plane into a IRS office kamikaze style and the failure of many, especially on the right to equate the act to terrorism.
Such double standards were consistently exposed by us throughout the year, particularly in our “What if they were Muslim?” segment. We documented the colossal double standards that exist both in media and popular perception when it comes to judging crimes committed by Muslims against those committed by individuals of other faiths. Invariably, when a Muslim commits a crime it is blamed or linked to Islam, whereas if someone else does it his or her faith is not mentioned — even if it was the motivation.
Of course we would be remiss if we did not mention the biggest story of the year; the Cordoba House, i.e. Park51 or as it has come to be known by many, “the Ground Zero Mosque controversy.” This was a story that raged for months and was “whipped up into a frenzy by a pair of bigoted anti-Muslim bloggers, Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer, two individuals who should be summarily dismissed as loons that have zero influence in the mainstream media or amongst any of our politicians.”
The Republicans latched onto this story and attempted to make it the wedge issue that they could use to ride to victory during the elections. A dozen or more candidates incorporated this issue into their platform with some making it their sole selling point, (un)surpirsingly a handful actually came out victorious, most prominently the looniest of them all, Allen West.
This was also the issue that catapulted Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer into their 5 minutes of fame. We had been reporting on these two, their financiers, networks and supporters ever since we started Loonwatch, our pieces on both of these goons especially “Pamela Geller: The Looniest Blogger Ever” was picked up by mainstream media outlets including the New York Times, Salon.com, Christian Science Monitor and the Washington Post.
Both Geller and Spencer were irked to no end by this and though they attempted to play the silent game were forced at some point to respond to Loonwatch, but they did so only with ad hominem attack and zero interaction with the substance of our articles. Geller resorted to calling us a “Goebbels-style hate site” while Spencer wished to inflict “100-101 lashes” on Danios who he labeled a “slick liar” while continuing to run-away and evade Loonwatch’s open challenge to a radio debate.
Today the controversy over Park51 is still simmering though the rhetoric and verbiage on it has cooled down quite a bit to the chagrin of Spencer and Geller. The spill over from Park51 left a terrible residue and sparked controversies around the nation.
It seemed that the issue with mosques (i.e. Muslims) was not simply about proximity to “hallowed ground,” but the right to build and freely worship was being challenged all over the country.

Ahmed H. Sharif
There are about six more places from our count where mosque controversies were raging, but the above sampling gives you an idea. The worst spillover of the mosque controversy undoubtedly manifested itself with the near fatal stabbing of New York City cab driver Ahmed H. Sharif. Passenger Michael Enright entered his cab, asked him “Are you a Muslim?” and when the cabdriver replied, “Yes,” slashed his throat.
There were other notable Islamophobiapalooza moments during the year as well. For instance Rima Fakih, the first Muslim Miss America drew the ire of right-wingers and Islamophobes who didn’t like seeing a brown lady with the crown, let alone a Mooslim. There was also the South Park/Revolution Muslim controversy and the resultant Everybody Draw Mohammed Day on Facebook which descended into an orgy of bigotry and hatred. Later this would reveal the epic double standards and failure of the moribund perception-makers in the media when contrasted with the way it dealt with the story of Pastor Terry Jones and his wacky Dove Outreach Church’s “International Burn the Koran Day on 9/11″ (Read: Islam and the Media in the Age of Islamophobiapalooza).
The final focal point with which Islamophobes and their cynical cohorts in the Republican party attempted to garner populist support through anti-Muslim fear-mongering was surrounding the buzz word: Sharia’. Sharia’ is the boogey monster that Muslims, 1% of the population of America is going to impose. Forget the fact that most of those advocating this conspiracy theory are themselves woefully ignorant of the Constitution, a document that they subvert with every statement and move they make. It got so bad that Oklahoma overwhelmingly passed a measure banning Sharia’ which has (thankfully) been overturned for being unconstitutional, it should also have been overturned for being unbelievably stupid.
This leads us to consider the biggest Islamophobic conspiracies of the year, which could be a feature piece on its own:
- Sharia take over of the United States
- Park51 being a “victory mosque” for “Islamic supremacism”
- Barack “Hussein” Obama being a secret “Mooslim”
- Muslim Congressional Spy Interns
- Rep. Keith Ellison working for Hamas
- Google’s “e” as an Islamic crescent
At the end of the day, all hope was not lost. There were many whose eyes were opened and Loonwatch helped by being picked by prominent and diverse bloggers as well as media venues as varying as AlJazeera, NPR, Christian Science Monitor, The Independent, AlArabiya etc. Many concerned citizens spoke out eloquently to reject and counter Islamophobia, our segment “Anti-Loons” vividly showcased the best of those who opposed bigotry and were sincerely and effectively working to counter hate and ignorance on all levels, especially against Islam and Muslims. Lesley Hazelton’s profound lecture describing her experience with the Quran left us with hope, that those who make an effort may come to see beyond the stereotypes, the ignorance that shackles us and fosters animosity between humanity.
“Part of the problem I think is we imagine that the Quran can be read as we usually read a book. As though we can curl up with it on a rainy day with a bowl of popcorn in reach, as though God, and the Quran is entirely in the voice of God speaking to Muhammad, were just another author on the best-sellers list. Yet it is precisely because so few people read the Quran that it is so easy to quote, that is to misquote, phrases and snippets taken out of context, in what I call the highlighter version, which is the one favored by Muslim fundamentalists and anti-Muslim Islamophobes.” –Lesley Hazelton

It has been an epic year for Islamophobia, thank you Garibaldi for the concise breakdown. Hopefully this upcoming year turns out better and we progress towards peace.
December 31st, 2010 at 2:41 pm
Jihadwatch ends the year with a New Year’s Resolution by a “Roland Shirk” that declares war on Muslims, outright admits a fear of Islam and Sharia, claims peaceful Muslims don’t know about their religion, rejects the term “moderate Muslim”, and proclaims that the term “Islamophobia” should have a positive connotation.
Sigh…I guess we shouldn’t be surprised.

Loon Watch editors and contributors, thank you all for your wonderful work. I hope the coming months will see coverage of Tarazi V Geller
NassirH, my humble suggestion is not to post full links to JihadWatch, the reason being you’re boosting his sites ratings in the search engines. That’s because Loon Watch now ranks quite high when people search for Geller or Spencer.
Commentators, thanks for making the place interesting, I hope the new year brings blessings to all,
Happy New Year everyone

This has been a crazy year in terms of Islamophobia. This was a wonderful summary.
What’s really annoying me is that very little of the Islamophbia was defeated this year. All of the controversies died away in the end but the hatred is still there. Loons that are calling for some kind of “Holy War” are still out there. It only means that next year will surely be worse.
What about in 365 days time, when we will look back on 2011? What will be the major controversies? Who will be the major loons?
What is definite is that next year will make us forget about this one.
December 31st, 2010 at 3:44 pm
and Loon Watch i forgot to mention, your roll call above omitted the most important piece of the year in my opinion, that which exposed Aubrey Chernick as a major funder of Jihad Watch, and other far right causes
perhaps a picture of Aubrey Chernick would have been more appropriate, after all Pastor Terry is a non entity who wants publicity, Aubrey Chernick goes to extroadinary lenghts to protect his privacy..
Aubrey Chernick, Major funder of Zionist Orgs & Islamophobic Orgs

Thanks, Loonwatch, for your excellent site. For me personally, 2010 was the year I was brought to investigate Islam and its Qur’an; and in doing so I found that it is NOT the hideous terrorist religion many people claim it to be. I read through the Qur’an and came to have a great respect for it as a real revelation from the One God – a continuation of the same message previously revealed in the Torah and the Gospel. In fact I can honestly say I have “fallen in love” with the Qur’an. I am not in fact actually “Muslim” when that term is used to refer to an “organization”; but I am “Muslim” in its basic meaning of devotion to the One and Only God. I find that my “mystical Unitarianism” is quite consistent with Islam (perhaps sufi), and I welcome Muslims as my “family” even though I’m not totally Muslim myself.
Thanks to you guys for helping me out in my “investigation”.
December 31st, 2010 at 5:34 pm
@ Islam Denounces Terrorism:
Very good idea. Chernick values privacy and anonymity. Posting some pictures and detailed information would be fun. One wonders what one would find if Chernick’s activities were brought to the light of day. The light of truth burns away ignorance and lies… and one can think of few better representatives of darkness. If there are any aspiring film-makers or writers out there, doing an expose on Chernick would be a great way to get a start. It’d also probably get you sued, which would be good too. After all ANY publicity is good publicity.
@ Stephen G. Parker:
Very true that and I’ll be amongst the first to welcome you. The way I figure it, Islam is about submission to God, so Jews, Christians, Zoroastrians, Mandaeans, Hindus and the like are all Muslim be default. Likewise, anyone who recognizes the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is a Muslim, so the Bahai, Druze and Sikhs are really just Muslims who don’t know they are Muslim.

Charles Johnson from LGF, whenever he wants to show Geller or Spencer’s idiocy directly, links to Google’s cached pages of the sites to avoid precisely that.

Happy New Year everyone, and may the new year bring peace to ALL(except Jihad bob and HalalPork)
December 31st, 2010 at 8:29 pm
NassirH,
Thanks for the link…reading that just justifies my decision to start my own blog directly refuting the garbage that comes out of Jihadwatch. Don’t get me wrong, LW does a great job, but it’s only on one front. And even thought here are literally thousands of Muslim sites on the web and organizations on the ground the world over, i find most of their refutations inadequate(and especially full of tu quoque argumentation). And others that are very qualified to take on the Islamophobes simply take a laissez-faire attitude. You know the attitude…why should i care, Islam has nothing to do with terrorism, or i don’t owe non Muslims any explanations Islam is open and out there for anybody to see, only an idiot could be an Islamophobe. Or the equally dangerous attitude..if they would just read the Qur’an and study Islam for themselves, they would see…but the reality is the extremists and Islamophobes both are sometimes very knowledgeable of the Islamic traditions and yet still have the wrong idea about Islam. We cannot afford to underestimate the influence of the Muslim Extremists or the Islamophobes.
And the link you provided is just another “throw-up after reading” post from Jihadwatch, this one adding insult to injury by reading like a missionary-type manifesto of how to convert Muslims to their position. These people literally want to turn Muslims into Islamophobes. And we all know the kind of enlightened, peace-loving, genuinely good people that type of conversion creates: ex. Ali Sina, Ibn Warraq, Mumin Salih, Walid Shoebat, et al

@ Midi 1;May allah give you bigger tongue to lick Muslims dirty bum.Year 2010 has been great in unmasking the true face of Mohamadanism and Muslims and that is just the beginning.People have come to realise the truth about Islam that it is the absurd theology of an Immoral beduine as Mustafa Kemal has rightly stated. It represents the backward 7th century political ideology of Mohammad bin Abdula who was foretold in the sriptures to come as an enemy to sow the tare and not wheat.Days of Islam are numbered.Loon watch is indirectly doing a good job to let people learn more about the untruth and venom of Islam.Islam has got to be uprooted like Nazism. It can never be reformed. How can you change the thinking of devil?I hope the New Year makes Muslims think more rationally.May I tell bluntly to Stephen G Parker that FOOL RUSH IN WHERE ANGELS FEAR TO GO.Gook luck,Mr.Parker.

Yo Halal Pork, you ever bother take some spelling lessons…let alone history lessons?
And who the heck is Mustafa Kemal? There are 40,000 of them. I assume you meant Ataturk, but your argument would still be highly misinformed. Ataturk secularized Turkey because he believed the Prophet was immoral? I was actually wondering where you got that information from so I just thought the fellow LoonWatchers would be grateful if I cited your source in a scholarly manner:
Spencer, Robert. The Complete Enraged Islamophobic Bigoted Judeo/Christians Guide to the Mooslim Religion. 1st. 333. Gainesville, Florida: The Daniel Pipes Foundation for Higher Understanding of Middle Eastern History, 1540. Print.
Turns out my college citation tool comes in pretty handy for LoonWatch.
Just as an aside for my Halal buddy, next time you wanna cite Robert Spencer, kindly do it in the MLA format accepted on this board [(Spencer)] so we can better understand where you get your fairytales from.
January 1st, 2011 at 2:19 am
Happy New Year and thanks to Loonwatch regulars such as Dawood and muhammad ‘abd-al haqq for patiently responding in a thoughtful and informative way to non muslims such as myself during 2010. All the best for 2011.
January 1st, 2011 at 4:24 am
@ Johnny K :If you can afford, then buy the book titled:HOLY TERROR BY AMER TAHERI Page 187.After reading that, just come back to me.Also read your Hadiths, which treasure all the information about the holy life and saying of your holy prophet.Unfortunately, you are so stupid and blind but mindless terrorists beyond any help. You don’t deserve to be part of a civilised society. You have contributed nothing but terrorism into the world. You are like a virus which destroys any healthy body.Any year without the Muslims around would make a happy new year.Mohammad is the only perfect model for muslims to follow who set the lowest moral standards.May the Living God open your coconut brains.I hope you have a new heart with compassion without mindless prejudice unlike the one you worship day and night.

@Stephen G.Parker,
It seems that people with the desire to seek the truth do find in the Quran guidance and assurance from our Creator and Allah does reason with us. I am glad you have found the Quran to be beautiful, and hearing the Quran (or The Recital) is even more beautiful.
May Allah reward you for your efforts in studying it without prejudice.

Mahatma Gandhi:
“The sayings of Muhammad are a treasure of wisdom, not only for Muslims but for all of mankind.”

I wish the same for you Halal Pork… An open mind and unprejudiced heart,
Peace!
January 1st, 2011 at 10:51 am
@ Mosizzla: Mahatma Gandhi was a pagan polytheist and his remarks hold no value. Then he was a politician like Mohammad who initially tried to woo the Jews and Christian who refused to acknowledge a true prophet from God.Hence he turned their staunch enemy. So Mohammad was also a political opportunist and and an ambitious one but NOT a TRUE PROPHET FROM GOD.He does not meet the criteria.
January 1st, 2011 at 11:24 am
I’m guessing @Halal pork’s New Year’s Resolution is to be even more bigoted, illiterate, and hateful than last year. And look at the great head-start he’s getting by making his latest comment.
Mahatma Gandhi was a pagan polytheist and his remarks hold no value.
January 1st, 2011 at 11:39 am
“Then he was a politician like Mohammad who initially tried to woo the Jews and Christian who refused to acknowledge a true prophet from God.”
LOL, it seems that Porky admitted that Muhammad (PBUH) was a True Prophet from God.
January 1st, 2011 at 11:53 am
@muhammad ‘abd-al haqq, make sure you link to Loonwatch on your blog—I do believe that Danios allows for folks to use Loonwatch’s work as long as they recognize and link to Loonwatch.
Also, here’s a blog that has a convincing rebuttal of one of Spencer’s main arguments; it’s about Jihad. In fact, the author even had an exchange via email with Robert Spencer in the past (it appears that he trashed Spencer, and Spencer appears to have developed a grudge against the author and even banned him from commenting on JihadWatch).
http://allahisalmighty.blogspot.com/2010/01/is-islam-essentially-violent-response.html
January 1st, 2011 at 12:03 pm
The Myth of a Militant Islam is also a good, scholarly article on the topic of Jihad. Robert Spencer didn’t like the book the article was in, so you know it has to be good.
http://books.google.com/books?id=uTUnWkJ4kmMC&pg=PA3&lpg=PA3&dq=myth+of+a+militant+islam&source=bl&ots=DK_fNos-3H&sig=w–QoG3j4N57YI25yfon3GOzvDc&hl=en&ei=8msfTdoZj5qwA-K7lMAC&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CDIQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q=myth%20of%20a%20militant%20islam&f=false
January 1st, 2011 at 12:27 pm
“Mahatma Gandhi was a pagan polytheist and his remarks hold no value.”
Ha! You are going to hate him just because he approved of the Prophet Muhammad. He also liked Jesus, by the way.
So you are saying that the man who was a runner up for Time Magazine’s Person of the Century, who served as inspiration for Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela, and whose non-violent campaign led to the independence of India, is not to be trusted. The level of hate you have for the Prophet Muhammad means that you will even disregard what one of the 20th Century’s greatest persons had said about him.
How can you trust the word of Robert Spencer, a fat slob whose greatest contribution to civilisation is….well, nothing really, to Mahatma Gandhi? You hate him because he was a polytheist yet you complain about how the Prophet Muhammad saved Arabs from paganism. Gandhi was a great man and so his remarks do matter.
But the real question is HalalPork, how is him being a “polytheist” relevant to the discussion? If anything, his beliefs would mean he would distrust the Prophet because of his belief in one God, however, Gandhi realises the Prophet Muhammad was an amazing man.
By the way, someone mentioned you were Indian. If that is true than how can you say that about “Gandhi-Ji”, the father of the Nation?
January 1st, 2011 at 12:39 pm
“Mahatma Gandhi was a pagan polytheist and his remarks hold no value.”
HAHAHAHAHAHAAH. Can you imagine if a highly Conservative Imam said that? Spencer would go around telling everyone in his college pep talks that Islam encourages the vilification of non believers. Do they notice the same bad things they say about Islam they do themselves?
January 1st, 2011 at 1:24 pm
muhammad ‘abd-al haqq
Good luck with your blog, you’re certainly able to cobble together interesting stuff
but bear in mind, busting Islamophobes will have more impact, if the talent is concentrated in one place. Loon Watch has a lot of credibility.
Am alternative would be to write here, all of Danios’s Spencer busting articles are available at spencerwatch.com
It may be worth your while to add your talent here or at spencerwatch.com This website is the best for busting Islamophobes for a variety of reasons,
You could have your own blog AND add your article here first.
We need to create one point on the internet which has a multi pronged approach to Islamophobia. This is it. This already has credibility though in my opinion, much more could be done to make it more spectacular.
JihadBob wouldn’t spend every waking hour here, if this site wasn’t taken seriously.
In any case, I do hope you’re successful, so keep adding your input here even if you do start your own website.
January 1st, 2011 at 1:32 pm
halal porl the fact that a fascist brown shirt like you thinks that anyone defending islam is a terrorist really shows why people need to defend themselves.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hfYJsQAhl0
For hopefully the last time!!! Although we Muslims do not believe the vile things Islamophobes ascribe to the Prophet(as), it must be understood the hypocisy of Jewish and Christian Islamophobes like haram porky and jahilbob. Supposedly Muhammad(saws) was not a Prophet, they say because of certain character flaws. Yet they believe in the Prophethood or at of idolaters, murderers, adulterers, pedophiles, liars, warlords, and just generally bad men if we accept the Bible stories. Alhamdulillah the Qur;an absolves Ibrahim, Musa, Dawud, Yacub, Yunus, Joshua, and Elijah,(as)and all the Prophets from these calumnies, but hopefully you can see the hypocrisy.

@ halal pork
This is in all honesty and no sarcasm: why are you saying all this on New Years? This is supposed to be a happy day, go celebrate, kiss the wife, have a drink or two, and hope that this year was better then the last. God cure you of all your faults.
January 1st, 2011 at 4:06 pm
Happy New Year to Loonwatch!
Thank you, thank you for all your hard work and efforts. I don’t think you guys really understand how much it means to have someone make the effort to be balanced and address the crap out there! Keep up the good work, and let’s hope one day Loonwatch won’t be such a necessary site!
January 1st, 2011 at 6:13 pm
Let us not forget that year 2010 was full of Islamo-fascism.It ended with killing of 21 innocent Christians in Egypt by the PIOUS MUSLIM,when the poor souls were coming out of the Church.Scores of Christian men, women and children were also badly wounded.Same happened in Nigeria.Hence year 2010 will go in history as a year of Islamic Fascicm, with the crown of glory going to Mohammad as its innovator.Even the Pope has given his blessing to combat the Muslims and that is just the start. The history of crusades might have to be repeated.Muslim atrocities are being committed against the Christians in all the Muslim countries because Mohammad came as an ANTI-CHRIST and not as one of the prophets from GOD of ABRAHAM,ISAAC and JACOB,all being Jewish where as Mohammad was an ARAB.
January 1st, 2011 at 6:25 pm
muhammad ‘abd-al haqq
“i understand your point, but LW is not an Islamic site…”
Well if it were an Islamic site, it would not be used by the MSM as a source. the MSM want a neutral source, not one that is biased towards one religion. That’s one of the reasons Loon Watch is successful.
“i want to start an Islamic blog, no disrespect to LW.”
Yes, that would be great for Muslim readers, and those who want to learn from the Muslim perspective, if they were all like you it wouldn’t even be an issue, but the problem with a lot of Muslim bloggers is that they tend to accumulate people who apologise for Muslim crimes, and blame Israel for everything, or the USA,
whilst Israel, and certainly the USA are to blame for a lot of external problems, it’s riduculous when apologists call Muslim sinners “tools of Zionists”. When these people learn that they indulging in a form of bigotry by holding Muslims to a lesser standard than others, then perhaps we will have more credibility. as it stands, Muslims are lousy at fighting Islamophbobia. Ahmed Rehab from CAIR was right. He too made the same observation, and he is one of the few Muslims who can deal with our enemies in a great way.
I tend to find that our liberal left wing allies are our most valuable friends.
January 1st, 2011 at 6:40 pm
Hey guys, hate to say I told you so, but I told you so:
It’s only a matter of time before a suicide bomber detonates himself during mass in an Egyptian church.
http://www.loonwatch.com/2010/11/muslim-woman-was-cursed-and-spat-on-in-walmart/#comment-34574
Oh, and Ian Gould, not only did this attack in Egypt take place, it took place within the six month time slot you set up for me.
How ’bout that? (oh, and what did I say about my predictions?)
On top of that, the true loons on that thread were predicting that Muslims would be massacred.
Not only did my prediction turn out to be true, it was the only one the members saw fit to criticize (apparently the belief that Muslims in the West would be rounded up in death camps was more probable for the loons on this site – how surprising)
January 1st, 2011 at 6:56 pm
You really are a cheap media whore JihadBob,
In the Coptic Priests thread, you made no comment, and you bring your ugly face here not because you care about those who were victims in this suicide bombing, but because it gives you an opportunity to crow.
you really are a disgusting character.
January 1st, 2011 at 7:07 pm
congrats to haram pork for ringing in the new Year with Jewish supremacism (Muhammad(saws)can’t be a Prophet because he wasn’t Jewish),parroting of Orientalist garbage about the Prophet(as)being anti-Christ, a call for a modern Crusade, and general all around stupidity.

Good for you Jihadbob. You are proven wrong on this site numerous times, then you run away and come back gloating about an attack on a Church. That was a very insensitive comment, you didn’t even talk about the numerous Christians that were affected but instead were happy that this attack took place, as if one of your predictions being right could make up for the fact that you have had to run way from numerous threads because you have been exposed numerous times.
What about the your false claim that Jundallah aims to create a “Sunni Islamist Theocracy”? Perhaps you can make a prediction as to when they will do that.

And congrats to JahilBob for jumping the gun. officials in EGYPT are not even sure if it was a suicide bomber. How are you, living in your moms basement somewhere the US privy to more info than them? Read up:
—————————————————————-
A suicide bomber outside a Coptic church in Egypt has killed 21 people and injured 79.
A suicide bomber has blown himself up outside a Coptic church in Egypt, killing 21 people and wounding 79 others, in an attack President Hosni Mubarak said was the work of “foreign hands”.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but al-Qaeda has called for punishment of Egypt’s Copts over claims that two priests’ wives they say have converted to Islam are being held by the church against their will.
The bombing in the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria on Saturday sparked fierce anger among Christians, who clashed with police and shouted slogans against the regime of the ageing president.
A health ministry official said 21 people were killed and 79 wounded, and the interior ministry said eight of those hurt were Muslims.
A witness had told private television On-TV he saw a car park outside the Al-Qiddissin (The Saints) church shortly after midnight, two men get out and the explosion happen almost immediately afterwards.
But the interior ministry ruled out the hypotheses of a car bomb, saying it was “PROBABLE that the bomb… was carried by a suicide bomber who died among the crowd”.
The device was packed with pieces of metal to cause the maximum amount of harm, it added.
And the circumstances of the explosion, “given the methods that currently prevail in terrorist activities at the global and regional level, clearly indicate” that the bombing was “planned and carried out by foreign elements”.
Mubarak echoed that, saying the bombing bore the hallmark “of foreign hands”.
In televised remarks, he referred to it as something that “is alien to us”, and pledged to “cut off the head of the snake, confront terrorism and defeat it”.
“All of Egypt is targeted. This blind terrorism does not differentiate between Copts and Muslims,” he said, urging people from both faiths to unite.
“You are terribly mistaken if you believe that you can hide from the punishment of the Egyptian people,” he added, addressing the still-unknown assailants.
Pope Benedict XVI, during New Year’s mass, urged world leaders to defend Christians against abuse and intolerance.
“I once again launch a pressing appeal not to give in to discouragement and resignation,” said the Pontiff.
Refaa al-Tahtawi, spokesman for Al-Azhar, Sunni Islam’s Cairo-based main institution of learning, denounced the attack and appealed for calm, as did a senior Coptic official, but to no avail.
About 15 hours after the bombing, growing numbers of Christians were continuing to vent their anger.
By mid-afternoon, hundreds of youths in small groups in the neighbourhood of the church were showering rocks and bottles on police, who responded with tear gas and rubber-coated bullets.
“O Mubarak, the heart of the Copts is on fire,” they shouted as they darted in and out of side-streets to heckle police.
Others unfurled their fury at the “cowardly terrorists” and chanted: “The blood of the Copts is not cheap.”
One demonstrator brandished a large cross to which was attached bloody remnants of victims’ clothing.
“With our soul and our blood we will redeem the Holy Cross,” was chanted.
Some protesters blamed the government for the incident, saying it was singling out the Copts because of their political views.
“The government is involved,” said Ishaq Habib.
“They want to break the Copts. They know that the Copts do not love Gamal Mubarak,” the president’s son, who has been widely viewed as a candidate to succeed him in power.
While no one has claimed the attack, it comes two months after gunmen stormed a Baghdad cathedral in an operation that left 44 worshippers, two priests and seven security forces dead.
That was claimed by al-Qaeda’s Iraq affiliate, the Islamic State of Iraq, which said its purpose was to force the release of the two women in Egypt.
“All Christian centres, organisations and institutions, leaders and followers, are legitimate targets for the mujahedeen (holy warriors) wherever they can reach them,” the group said.
“Let these idolaters, and at their forefront, the hallucinating tyrant of the Vatican, know that the killing sword will not be lifted from the necks of their followers until they declare their innocence from what the dog of the Egyptian Church is doing,” the ISI said.
It also demanded that the Christians “show to the mujahedeen their seriousness to pressure this belligerent church to release the captive women from the prisons of their monasteries”.
After those threats, protection around Coptic places of worship was discreetly stepped up, with Mubarak saying he was committed to protecting the Christians “faced with the forces of terrorism and extremism”.
The Copts account for up to 10 per cent of Egypt’s 80 million population, and often complain of discrimination and have been the target of sectarian attacks.

““It’s only a matter of time before a suicide bomber detonates himself during mass in an Egyptian church.”
I would hope not. But you’re the kind of person who needs that to happen so you can spread more hate about Islam.”
—
Indeed, you needed that to happen, it happened and you now have confidence that you can now take on everyone else and spread more hate of Islam.
And the fact that one person predicted that if Islamophobia continues as it does, Muslims will be massacred does not mean he found it to more likely to happen than the Church attack. Also, such a prediction is not entirely unlikely as Muslims have been thrown into death camps before.

Bob, how about this for a monkey wrench in your works:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/ywm-7-ynayrhnrwh-alknaysnhtfl-m-akhwatna-aw-nmwt-mahm/133480746707049
A Facebook group appeared called “On January 7 [Coptic Christmas], we will go to Churches, celebrate with our brethren or die with them”. With over 7000 members in just one day. You’ll see that loads of members of this group now have a black profile picture of a cross with a crescent and lines such as “I’m Egyptian. I’m against Terrorism” or “Mourning”, etc.. I didn’t think that this would fit into your binary world view, so any confusion on your side is utterly natural and expected.
Some people – like the members of this group – use such sad events as an opportunity for reflection, reassuring their relationships with their friends of other faiths, and for supporting each other in hard times.
Others – people like you – rejoice at such tragedies because it gives you a reason to gloat over the internet. What a despicable kind of person that makes you…

WikiLeaks,
Why are you responding to something directed at Patriots Question 9/11? Are you one and the same person? Does this mean you are also Beautiful Muslim Doll, Islam Denounces Terrorism, Islam Created the Modern World, and Muslim Zionists? So many alties? Why?
“Well if it were an Islamic site, it would not be used by the MSM as a source. the MSM want a neutral source, not one that is biased towards one religion. That’s one of the reasons Loon Watch is successful.”
Let LW be used as a source by the MSM..i am not interested in mainstream media. Just like extremists in Islam can only be defeated by Muslims, Islamophobia ultimately can only be defeated by Muslims. And the weapon for both these battles is education/knowledge. i appreciate non Muslim allies, but let’s be real here.. i don’t see why another site created as a repository for authentic Islamic information could not also benefit Loonwatch. How many religious articles has LW published? How many readers do you think would benefit from a refutation all the Islamophobes’ claims from Islamic sources, a Muslim perspective?
“i want to start an Islamic blog, no disrespect to LW.”
“Yes, that would be great for Muslim readers, and those who want to learn from the Muslim perspective, if they were all like you it wouldn’t even be an issue, but the problem with a lot of Muslim bloggers is that they tend to accumulate people who apologise for Muslim crimes, and blame Israel for everything, or the USA,”
Why are you always bringing up Israel? Are you assuming that my blog will accumulate and attract such people? i sincerely think Non Muslim readers will get the most benefit from a blog like mine.
“Ahmed Rehab from CAIR was right. He too made the same observation, and he is one of the few Muslims who can deal with our enemies in a great way.”
This is why Rehab and Reza Aslan cannot be great spokespersons for all Muslims. Islam has no central authority, so representatives of Islam must come from all backgrounds, not just Westernized ones. Rehab is wrong if that is indeed what he meant. The cure for Islamophobia is the Qur’an, Islam and Muslims. That is why Muslims are the best at fighting Islamophobia when they do engage in the fight. The problem is that we Muslims actually don’t care. We have a laissez-faire attitude towards combating anti-Islamic bigotry. Remember:
And the Jews will not be pleased with thee, nor the Christians, unless thou follow their religion. Say: Surely Allah’s guidance, that is the (perfect) guidance. And if thou follow their desires after the knowledge that has come to thee thou shalt have from Allah no friend, nor helper.[Qur'an 2:120]
This is why when Muslim do engage the battle against Islamophobia they take the daw’ah approach, with the firm belief that any sane person can see Islam for what it is. We Muslims are not prepared for how loony the Islamophobes are and the lengths they will go to to make their vile viewpoint mainstream in the West. And we definitely don’t think it worth the effort to respond to the loons, because no matter how many individuals or groups, scholarly or laity, denounce terrorism, present Islamic info, albeit from a daw’ah approach, loons will be loons. The battle is about winning the majority would-be loons who are still one the fence. Educating them will leave the loons bereft of allies.
“I tend to find that our liberal left wing allies are our most valuable friends.”
i, like most Muslims, didn’t care about Islamophobia until personally faced with it years ago.i became Muslim in ’98. In 2001 after 9/11 a friend came to me and said “see what you’re people have done?” i replied: “my people? they are your people too! when we frame it in this us versus them framework, everybody loses sight of the real enemy”. What struck me most about the ensuing conversation was how a normal, good-hearted Westerner could articulate such bigoted views. It awoke me to the actual influence of those i would later call Islamophobes and to the dangers of their continued influence.
The cure for Islamophobia, must start with Muslims, and the fight must be led by us no matter how much we appreciate and love our liberal “leftist” allies. Ever wonder why having a friendship with a real live, practicing Muslim cures all but the most obstinate from Islamophobia?

Halal Pork, that video is nothing but more Israeli nonsense and propaganda designed to go viral as more people laugh at Arabs and make it seem like they jave a backward culture. It is hily inappropriate behaviour from a country often called the “only democracy in the Middel East”. The show seems to be a cheap rip-off of Western shows like the Daily Show and is highly disrespectful.
What is ironic is that Christians have often been discriminated against by extremist Jews in Israel. There was a particular incident when a big Cross was broken in Jerusalem and a Church was vandalised with the graffiti “We killed Jesus!”. Similar incidents have been reported where extremist Jews have decided to mock Jesus (PBUH) and rejoice in the fact that those responsible for his cruci-fiction (lol, Ahmed Deedat) were Jewish.

The porkies and the dorkies on this site forgot to mention that on Christmas day more 40 Pakistani people, ordinary Muslim people, were killed by a bomb blast in Pakistan.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40806288/ns/world_news-south_and_central_asia/
According to the link below:
http://www.satp.org/satporgtp/countries/pakistan/database/casualties.htm
Nearly 13000 Pakistan civilians and security personnel were killed from 2003-2010. Keep in mind, that these people were mostly Muslims and mostly in mosques. These numbers are much higher in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The question that begs to be answered is that if the killers are devout Muslims and want Muslim world domination (and want Christians and Jews to be killed as loony Pammy would suggest) so why are they targeting Muslims? Statistically, with highest causalities being Muslim, second being Christian and with Spencey and girlfriend Pamela et al rejoicing a lot in Israel and getting funding from them, the situation is pretty obvious to anybody who has an IQ greater than a cucumber.
Maybe they should call Al-Qaeda Al-Mossada perhaps??
Porky you agree? oink oink?
January 2nd, 2011 at 2:28 am
About the horrible Church bombing by cowardly skum, who didn’t even want to risk their own lives killing civilians and attacking places of worship… it’s been widely condemned through the Arab world and the wider Muslim world, the front page of my paper today, Gulf News, was full of quotations from all sorts of Muslim and Arab leaders condemning it, calling for calm and vowing to get the perpetrators. What really got to people was it was a house of worship that was attacked. Was any of that reported by the standard people? PS bob, you specified Suicide Bombing, it was a car bomb…
January 2nd, 2011 at 2:52 am
I’m sorry, I got that bit wrong, it was probably a suicide bombing according to recent reports. Anyway, what does that prove? That there are scum out there? You know that the bastards managed to damage a Mosque and injure 8 Muslims in the attacks? Shows how ‘representative’ they are huh? All this proves is what others have said, that you *want* stuff like this to happen so it can ‘prove’ your ‘points’ since they are too flimsy to stand up by themselves. Now that is low.
January 2nd, 2011 at 3:16 am
One does wonder whats behind the church bombing . The state represses Islam so ‘islamic’ terrorists bomb a church mmmmmmm.
It would not be the first set of false flag operations in North Africa to whip up hysteria against Islam and distract people from dispotic rulers

muhammad ‘abd-al haqq
Yes, whilst i agree with the general gist and certainly agree that non Muslims can benefit, i wasn’t “predicting” what your blog would be, merely voicing why most Muslim blogs don’t have credibility. It’s not like there isn’t information available, it’s just that they don’t want to admit there are problems and blame outsiders, shift the blame anything but tackle the problem
I also did make it clear, that you don’t indulge in this so I wasn’t including you in these conspiracy mongers.
“And the Jews will not be pleased with thee, nor the Christians, unless thou follow their religion. Say: Surely Allah’s guidance, that is the (perfect) guidance. And if thou follow their desires after the knowledge that has come to thee thou shalt have from Allah no friend, nor helper.[Qur'an 2:120]”
You’re totally right, but i don’t think this verse applies here, not to the mainstream bigotry anway, because it would have existed prior to 9/11
what does this have to do with what i said? It isn’t just Christians and Jews, plenty of Islamophobia comes from atheists, hindus, and other religous groups. We also have many allies from both groups.
I said that most Muslim bloggers are apologists for Muslim crimes, instead of admitting them, and tackling them, i mean sinners of ours are sinners. Plain and simple. If they cannot admit that, or see that then they need to, before they begin to fight Islamophobia then they have no credibility. Saying that sinning Muslims are tools of anyone, means they are saying they have no brain to think for themselves. This is what they reduce us to, brainless zombies who can only be misled, as that’s all we are good for.
and this is what Rehab meant and he wasn’t wrong, he was spot on,
I agree that dawa is not the same as refuting Islamophobes, so you’re right there.
“Why are you always bringing up Israel? Are you assuming that my blog will accumulate and attract such people? i sincerely think Non Muslim readers will get the most benefit from a blog like mine.”
I’m not bringing up Israel, merely voicing a disease than many would be Islamophobia busters suffer from and use as a cover to fight Islamophobia, (blame Israel, or blame the USA) and this has got to stop. There is a legitimate case against the occupation, and Americann imperial designs on the world, but only each person is responsible for their own actions, not those who give us the “reason” to sin.
Nor was I assuming or discouraging you, i’d be more than happy to see a Muslim at the forefront of Islamophobia, but at the same time, there is no reason why there should not be a multi pronged approach from all quarters (us and our allies) attacking these liars, because all of the Islamophobia isn’t routed in us simply being Muslims or Islam, a lot is simply against religion itself. That is why those who attack Islam sometimes, are often as bigoted as against other organised religon. Salman Rushdie for example wrote offensive comments against Christianity before he did about Islam. Atheist Islamophobes are just as bigoted at Christianity and Christian supremacists are just as bigoted against Islam and Judaism and vice versa,
The very fact that Islamophobia only gained ground and grew into an industry after 9/11 means that we cannot ignore the reasons that Islamophobia grew. Otherwise why didn’t it exist prior to then? and the reason is not Surah 2:120
since you said you don’t care about MSM, i would then ask how do you intend to get the non Muslim to listen to you?
I’ve seen many talented Muslims writers who simply live in obscurity in their quarter of the internet simply because nobody knows they are there.
I guess was talking more about the marketing side, or to sum it up in one sentence, even the best blogger needs to get MSM attention to be taken seriously. That is a fact that even the best Islamophobe buster cannot ignore.
In any case, i really believe a multi pronged approach will work to defeat our enemies, and that doesn’t mean that Muslims shouldn’t be at the forefront.
I apologise if it sounded like i was rubbishing your idea, i wasn’t,

“…If God had not driven some people back by means of others,
monasteries, churches, synagogues and mosques, where God’s name is
mentioned much, would have been pulled down and destroyed. God will
certainly help those who help Him – God is All-Strong, Almighty.”
(Quran (Surat al-Hajj: 40) )
Muslims are commanded to protect these places of worship as God’s name is mentioned there. In this verse Allah justifies the use of jihad, saying that if He had not allowed it, His religions would have been finished as soon as they had started. Churches and Synagogues are mentioned in the same category as Mosques, hence they should be respected like Mosques.
There is nothing Islamic about this attack on a Church.

@ Sir.David,You are quite a useful Idiot for Islam and Muslims. You pretend as if you do not know the root cause of this terrorism in general and against the Christians in particular.Mohammad, your hero claimed:I have been made victorious with TERROR.Read Sahih Bokhari 4:52:220.Read also the Quran which tells Muslims to strike TERROR in the hearts of UNBELIEVERS.Quran is nothing but a text book of violence and terror. So,don’t blame poor Mubarak. He is the product of Islam,a fascist Ideology.Have you heard of the story that once God invited all the heads of states to see Him.When they entered one by one,God left His chair and shook hand with each one of them. When the turn of a Muslim head of the State came,God held on to His chair.Satan appears on the scene and asks God for that behaviour.God told him that if he left his seat, the Muslim fellow will take that over and would never like to leave that.Hence President Mubarak falls into that category like other Muslim heads of States.Stop being a SNAKES CHARMER for a few pennies for the Muslims and Islam or learn more from:faith freedom.org and Islam-watch.org:

Robert Spencer actually mentioned Surat al-Hajj in his rant about the bombings in Egypt, and provided his own (ridiculous and far-fetched) interpretation of ayat 40. Despite their actions contradicting what the Qur’an and the Sunnah say, Spencer concludes yet again that terrorists are the “good Muslims” and that mainstream Muslims aren’t following Islam. Of course, he’ll still claim that he’s protecting the rights of Christians in the Middle East (apparently loons believe that insisting that Muslims are religiously obligated to detonate bombs in Churches is protecting the rights of Middle Eastern Christians).

Making up fairytales again, HalalPork? In fact your story destroys your previous argument that Muslims have a different God because the Muslims, Jews and Christians all went to see the same God. Oops.
In fact, your story is blasphemous because you imply that Muslims are so powerful that even God is scared of us. Such is the nature of your Islamophobia that you have no faith even in God that he could stop the advance of the Mooslims. Are you worried they are going to impose Sharia law in heaven?
Where did you find this amusing tale?

Well from the above we also lean that either God or the Devil ‘talks’ to Mr Pork since he seems to have insider knowledge of what goes on up there, neither of which are particularly good signs… he also seems to believe that the all powerful creator of everything uses chairs to control the world and can’t stop a human from ousting him from power

How can you be such a fool and use Ali Sina as a source? You said that Gandhi’s remarks have no value because he is a pagan polytheist, but what about Ali Sina? He is an atheist, he has no God, in fact, he hates God. He is against all religions including Christianity. He said that St.Paul suffered from Temporal Lobe Epilepsy, he had hallucinations, and had “hijacked” Christiainity.
Ibn Warraq has also mentioned about how stupid fundamentalist Christians are to be promoting his book when all the arguments that he uses against Islam could be easily put to Christianity.

NO LIST ON ISLAMOPHOBIA 2010 WOULD BE COMPLETE WITHOUT MENTIONING
the Italian cabinet voting to exclude Italian imams and mosques from a government revenue sharing program beacuse of their radicalism. And Moscovites rising up against a plan to build a fifth mosque in their city of one million Moslems because four is considered more than generous for them. Perhaps 2010 will go down in history as a great turning point, when the backlash against Islamic supremacism began across America, Europe and the Russian Federation.

Err, I don’t give a crap. Ali Sina could write a book about the effect of cinnamon on the behaviour of pigs like you but he isn’t a respected authority on anything so I don’t care what he has said. Most importantly, he isn’t a doctor so he is entirely unqualified to diagnose someone from 1400 years ago with a mental disorder.
Answer my comments. No need to start promoting Ali Sina’s book like you work for him.

Islamophobes don’t realize that in places like SOAS, the University of Chicago, Princeton, Yale, etc. the books written by Spencer et al are not used to teach courses on Islam at any level. Now why is that?

Spencer’s books are for public consumption, just as Karen Armstrong’s are.
January 2nd, 2011 at 2:37 pm
JahilBob: Spencer’s books are for public consumption, just as Karen Armstrong’s are.
So one cannot gain a scholarly, objective knowledge of Islam from reading either Spencer’s or Amrstrong’s books?
January 2nd, 2011 at 2:40 pm
Good point JihadBob: Spencer should stop calling himself a scholar, since his books are merely pieces of propaganda designated for right-wing extremists. And he certainly has less credibility than Karen Armstrong, since unlike Armstrong he advocates for discrimination against Muslims and has joined a genocidal Facebook group—among other things.
Islamophobes don’t realize that in places like SOAS, the University of Chicago, Princeton, Yale, etc. the books written by Spencer et al are not used to teach courses on Islam at any level. Now why is that?
Let’s hear what Hugh Fitzgerald of JihadWatch has to say.
“…Government-sponsored centers to teach people about Islam outside of universities, which all over the Western world have been infiltrated, or rather captured by, apologists for Islam both Muslim and non-Muslim.”
There you have it, Ibn Abu Talib. Universities have been hijacked by Dhimmis and Mooslims, and that’s why everyone disagrees with Spencer. As for Spencer’s numerous factual errors and distortions, his cult-like following doesn’t seem to mind.
January 2nd, 2011 at 3:43 pm

January 2nd, 2011 at 4:17 pm
@ Halalporker:
> Mahatma Gandhi was a pagan polytheist and his remarks hold no value.
And you wonder why we don’t like Christian fundamentalists? Could it be because you just go around spewing hatred and ignorance at everyone who doesn’t believe the exact same thing as you? Yesterday it was Jews and American Indians. Today it is Muslims. Tomorrow it will be Buddhists or Wiccans or Zoroastrians… or of course Hindus.
Funny thing is that Hindus aren’t even really polytheists. No more so than Christians with the trinity. All the aspects of God in Hinduism are ultimately illusions. Hinduism is more like pantheistic monotheism than anything else. But don’t let facts get in the way of your good time.
> Then he was a politician like Mohammad who initially tried to woo the
> Jews and Christian who refused to acknowledge a true prophet from God.
> Hence he turned their staunch enemy.
Or it could be that Gandhi WAS a statesman and that India has a HUGE minority of Muslims but a small Christian minority and an even smaller Jewish one. Sure both groups came with Middle Eastern merchants long ago and the seven sisters are mostly Christian (and again a tiny Jewish minority in Mizoram; they weren’t there in Gandhi’s time though). Gandhi may have made overtures to the Muslim minority but obviously religious schisms in Asia were a big and complicated issue. Despite the hero worship Gandhi receives in India today there are plenty of Sikhs and Muslims and even Hindus who take issue with him.
> because Mohammad came as an ANTI-CHRIST and not as one of the prophets
> from GOD of ABRAHAM,ISAAC and JACOB,all being Jewish where as Mohammad
> was an ARAB.
Hmmm… is it true that you are Desi because that would explain alot. Don’t get me wrong. Indian Christians can be some of the nicest people out there but there are also plenty of kooks who got converted to some evangelical cult or another. It would explain your hatred for Islam and Arabs… and yourself because quite frankly you seem to hate everything non-western and non-Christian.
You post about how all the “REAL Prophets” had to be Jewish… even though the Jews themselves believe no such thing. Judaism is silent as to the question of non-Jewish Prophets. As their religion tells the history and culture of the Jewish people this makes sense. It is not incompatible with say Persian Zoroastrianism or the short lived cult of Aten in Egypt. In Islam we accept that there were many Prophets though the Holy Qur’an only mentions a few – including a couple of explicitly non-Jewish Prophets from ancient Arabia like Hud and Salih.
I think somewhere in the back of your mind that must offend you because it threatens your belief. It means that ancient India had its own Prophets and that the traditional beliefs and cultures of India were therefore “right.” It means that the Native Americans were “right”. It means that the Yoruba and Kongo were “right”. If you really are Asian, I can see why that threatens you, because you’ve spent so much time convincing yourself that you need to pretend at being “white” or “European.” The whole stability of your paradigm must be at stake…
> Read Sahih Bokhari 4:52:220.
You do know that there is much debate as to the validity of hadiths right? Not everyone accepts them as true or infallible. In particular we Shi’a have our own collections like al-Kafi and even then we believe that you need to interpret them.

No I’ve never heard that story because you probably just made it up. Have you ever heard some of the stories about Nasreddin Hoca? Now that guy was HILARIOUS!
> Stop being a SNAKES CHARMER for a few pennies for the Muslims and Islam
Funny you should say that cuz I rather like snakes. My girlfriend – who is not Muslim btw – does a really good American tribal style snake dance with my Colombian red tail. Maybe you should see it some time. It’d probably get rid of some of your ignorant hatred.
> or learn more from:faith freedom.org and Islam-watch.org:
You mean the fake atheist site that’s really a front for evangelical Christians? Nah. I’ve wasted enough of my time laughing at the Creation museum and prank phone calls to Fred Phelps.
@ Jihad robbie:
> Spencer’s books are for public consumption, just as Karen Armstrong’s
> are.
Then why hasn’t little robbie spencer written any academic books? You know, he CLAIMS to be a scholar… It seems pretty pathetic for him to only have two articles to his name, neither of which deals with Islam in even the peripheral sense. I still haven’t seen any evidence that he even SPEAKS Arabic or any other pertinent language. So what is he really worth as a “scholar” then?
January 2nd, 2011 at 4:22 pm
@ NassirH:
> There you have it, Ibn Abu Talib. Universities have been hijacked by
> Dhimmis and Mooslims, and that’s why everyone disagrees with Spencer.
> As for Spencer’s numerous factual errors and distortions, his cult-like
> following doesn’t seem to mind.
Actually… you may be onto something there. Any good cult leader knows how to isolate his followers from the outside world, telling them that they cannot trust other authority figures. The government, churches, family members, businesses… any of these could be a “threat” to the cult leader’s control. Robbie and his followers have poisoned their readers minds by telling them that the government and schools are run by ‘dhimmis’ and ‘secret Muslims’ (still think ‘Secret Muslims’ would be an awesome name for a band by the way).
Naturally the only people they can trust as “authorities” on Islam are robbie and his buddies. Who, of course, need to sell a new book every few months to keep the money and fame flowing in for them. It’s a brilliant scam really.
January 2nd, 2011 at 4:22 pm
“Spencer’s books are for public consumption, just as Karen Armstrong’s are.”
Well *duh*, his books aren’t going to be for private consumption. But you are blatantly trying to avoid the question.
Why would “scholar” Robert Spencer, whose hate site yesterday featured an article called “What we can learn from Justin Bieber”, not be accepted as a “scholar” by major universities? You try to answer the question in a childish way –”Well he didn’t want to have his books used to teach courses on Islam anyway!”.
However, the truth is different. In an article called “Fitzgerald: A tribute to Carl Ernst”, Hugh Fitzgerald predicts that at least 1/4 of the scholars of MESA (Middle East Studies Association) will be “secretly delighted” by Robert Spencer’s pathetic biography of the Prophet (PBUH), the other 3/4 he predicts will dismiss it as “unscholarly”. But he says that the only reason the delighted scholars will not assign his book is because they are not brave enough (excuses, excuses!). Some he said may list it as “Other Reading” on their syllabi if they have enough courage. After all, Saudi Arabia owns all of these dhimmi universities (?) and the scholars don’t want to upset their masters.
The fact that JihadWatch is even talking about whether Spencer’s book will be accepted by scholars, and is salivating over the possibility a few scholars may put it on their “Other Reading” list, refutes your point that his books are intended solely for public consumption and not for universities. The fact is that he is a fake scholar of Islam.

A perfect scam! He would have gotten away with it, too, if it hadn’t been for those “meddling Mooslims” and this awesome site.

If you look at the BITE model regarding cult behaviour, JW and connected sites definitely exhibit some of those, especially parts II and III.
January 2nd, 2011 at 5:22 pm
@ Mosizzle:
LOL. Speaking of which… of the voice of Shaggy, Casey Kasem IS Arab American and Druze (though whether you consider them “Muslim” or not is up to you). He IS very active in the Arab American community though, so I guess we’ve got another element of pop culture that robbie spencer is going to boycott.
@ Dawood:
HAhaha yeah… Actually, funny you should post that because it also applies pretty well to daniel pipes, who is somewhat scarier than spencer in that he actually wants to establish a network where students spy on their teachers and report them for not toeing in line with his views on Israel and the Middle East. That DEFINITELY applies here.
January 2nd, 2011 at 8:07 pm
My wife must have read the BITE model part 1 !
January 2nd, 2011 at 8:26 pm
Dawood
The BITE model regarding cult behaviour is some serious stuff, but i can only imagine that “jihadwatchers” thinks it applies to Muslims.
Allahu A’lam
January 3rd, 2011 at 1:33 am
I was only kidding about my wife using the BITE model to “control my behaviour”…but seriously the BITE model applies to real nut job cults like Koresh, People’s Temple, Hermetic Order of the Solar Temple, Heaven’s Gate, Aum Supreme Truth. It’s a matter of degree of fit. I imagine almost all flavours of Islam wouldn’t fit into the BITE model, as most types of Christianity or Buddhism don’t fit into BITE model either. I was raised a Jehovah’s Witness which has been described as a cult by some. I think it does not have sufficient fit to the BITE model to call it a cult.
January 3rd, 2011 at 1:40 am
Thanks Dawood I found the bite model interesting.
It reminded me of the few times I have had a peek at Atlas shrugs, the name calling, the irrationality , the inability to question the leader ,the use of buzz or code words .

@Zakariya Ali Sher :First of all ,as a Shi’te,you can not speak for the Muslims because Sunnis who are 90% in number,do not consider you Muslims. You are just Kafirs in their sight.Read the book by Anwar Shaikh about Islam. He has proved Islam to be a political 7th century Arabian Ideology. For forty years, was Mohammad a Muslim or Pagan? Was Mecca not a shrine holding over 360 pagan Idols and controlled by Mohammad’s grandfather? ?Did he ever convert to Islam?Does the Quran not contain the Biblical stories and presented in distorted form and then blaming the Holy Bible being changed?Yes ,It was changed by Mohammad and it appeared in the form of Quran. It also contains so many ancient fables like a she camel coming out of the cave and some men sleeping for three hundred years. It is arranged in a weird manner. All hotch potch according to the size of suras. The ealiest suras are at the end and sura 9,which should have been the last, ended up as number 9.Lot of stories taken from apocryphal gospels in inserted in the Quran, like the gospel of Thomas and Sura Maryam is from the gospel of Infancy.Even the contemporary Arabs told Mohammad that he was a fraud and they had heard those stories before.Read Surah 25 to satisfy yourself.Unfortunately you are so brain washed that you would never learn.I have read books by Dr.Robert Morey. He has also written a few books on Islam after extensive research. He is not an apologist like Karen Armstrong. She is an ex-Catholic nun and a great prize for Muslims.I have got a book by her as well. You should watch the debate between Dr,Morey and Shabir Ally and draw your own conclusion.
January 3rd, 2011 at 8:00 am
“I have read books by Dr.Robert Morey.”
Oh, so that explains why you are such an idiot. Is this the same liar Robert Morey who made up a hadith because he couldn’t read Arabic.

@Mosizzle:As the saying goes:EVEN THE DEVIL QUOTES THE BIBLE;I am glad tha you have quoted King David’s Psalm 31:18 which says:Let the lying lips be put to silence. That is exactly what I am trying to do with you lot.

Haram Pork,
“Zakariya Ali Sher :First of all ,as a Shi’te,you can not speak for the Muslims because Sunnis who are 90% in number,do not consider you Muslims. You are just Kafirs in their sight”
He certainly can! What a desperate divide and conquer strategy you poor demented soul,
Extremist Shia and Sunni, (only a tiny minority) believe that the other is “kafir”, and they’re both equally xenophobic,
Some of Islam’s greatest Caliphs were Shia, Salah al Din al Ayoubi (ask Richard the Lionheart who he was) was a Shia (Sufi) thus Shia’s have a lot to be proud of.
What pray tell, have you to brag about?
January 3rd, 2011 at 9:09 am
Why do you avoid all of my questions? Obviously, you can’t answer them.
Robert Morey is a liar and lying is against the Christian religion. Therefore, he is a bad Christian. Also, why is it, according to you, the devil quotes the Bible but he doesn’t quote the Quran? Are you saying that the Bible contains things that please the devil?
What about that rubbish story you told us? Aren’t you going to comment on the blasphemy that you uttered or comment on how it disproved your earlier assertion that Allah and God are different?
January 3rd, 2011 at 9:19 am
LOL, thanks for nailing this liar Mosizzle,
The bible pleasing the Devil must leave HP speechless…Priceless:)
January 3rd, 2011 at 9:31 am
Thanks, Imad.
I will add to your comment with a modern example: some of the greatest leaders of Pakistan have been Shia– Muhhammad Ali Jinnah was born a Shia, so was Liaqat Ali Khan. Benazir Bhutto and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto were also Shia. Current dictator Asif Ali Zardari (backed by the US!) is Shia and so is the current Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.
The fact is that Pakistan, despite being majority Sunni, has had many Shia leaders. So obviously Shias are not considered Kaafirs by most Sunnis because if they were then the conservative Sunni clerics would have objected. Even the extremist Sunni Taliban is currently taking support from Shia Iran.
Also Shias are allowed in Mecca which is proof that they are Muslims and not Kaafirs. Obviously, Halal Pork you have no idea about Islam and have exposed your stupidity once again with your comment.
January 3rd, 2011 at 9:32 am
I’m sorry I meant “Inspired by Muhammad”. Apologies.
January 3rd, 2011 at 1:09 pm
Halalpork: No one here claims to speak for anyone but themselves, so your attack on Zakariya due to his belief is moot. It is especially so considering the explicit designation of the Shi’a as Muslims found in such things as The Amman Message. I for one enjoy his contributions to the site, and welcome his perspective.
Inspired by Muhammad: As a tangent to this discussion and a matter of history, I’ve never heard the claim that Saladin was Shi’a before. Do you have a source? All the sources I have checked mention that he was staunchly Sunni (Shafi’i/Ash’ari – some even mentioning that he memorised the famed Al-Iqna’, a major commentary on a foundational text of the Shafi’i madhhab, Matn Abi Shuja’), and that he was Qadiri in tariqa. He’s also Kurdish, who (besides a small number in Iran and Turkey) are staunchly Sunni, as far as I know.
January 3rd, 2011 at 2:08 pm
Saladin was definitely Sunni. And I’m pretty sure he ws never a Caliph either.
January 3rd, 2011 at 2:21 pm
Dawood, I don’t have a source to hand, but I always thought he was a Shia, certainly he was a Sufi?
anyway, i just checked Wikipedia and it says he was a Sunni and followed the Qadri Sufi order, which sounds conflicting, was he both a Shia and a Sunni then? or didn’t he distinguish between the two? so he may have been both Sunni and Shia? interesting,..i’ll look into this,
You may be correct though, as your sources look better than Wikpedia…
January 3rd, 2011 at 2:25 pm
here is the wiki entry
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saladin
As such, he is a notable figure in Kurdish, Arab, and Muslim culture. Saladin was a strict adherent of Sunni Islam and a mystical disciple of the Qadiri Sufi order.
and NassirH, I didn’t say he was a Caliph, I said there have been Shia Caliphs, sorry, I write so fast and click “submit” often without checking, it sounded like i was saying Salah al Din al Ayoubi was a Caliph
January 3rd, 2011 at 2:39 pm
The Qadiriyya is mainly a Sunni order, I have never met any Shi’a members of that tariqa, though I would imagine that they exist as it’s one of the oldest established. The founder, Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani was actually a Hanbali in fiqh, although he was a sayyid (both Hasani and Husayni in lineage). One can be Sunni and Sufi at the same time – in fact, most well-known scholars were (al-Nawawi, al-Ghazali… the list is endless). Even Ibn Taymiyya himself took the Qadiri way and received the mantle of Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir!
January 3rd, 2011 at 3:23 pm
To be honest, I don’t like the way Sufis are treated like they are as some other sect, especially in Western media, as different from Sunnis and Shias. Not only does it make it look like the Ummah is more divided, but it doesn’t make much sense to consider Sufis as different from Sunnis or Shias in the same way that Catholicism is different from Protestantism.

LW. would you consider this story good for the “What if they were Muslim?” series:
Albany, NY – Lawmakers Lobby Gov. Cuomo to Restore Kosher Law-Enforcement Division
http://www.vosizneias.com/72465/2011/01/02/enforcement-division/
Imagine a lobby of Muslims with the specific aim of installing a Sharia Law Enforcement Division in the governments State Department.

good piece! Let’s not forget Fox News for always showing the negative side of Muslims and being hypocrites no thanks to Bill O’Reilly, Beck and Hannity and his hateful guests such as Ann Coulter, Dennis Miller, Juan Williams, Gaffney, etc. etc.
Bill Maher is also an Islamophobe worried about too many Muhammads being born and laughing at Orchard Park Muslim woman beheaded by her loony husband. I don’t recall him laughing at Nicole Simpson nearly beheaded by accused OJ.
