Geert Wilders Opposes Cartoon About His Party

I thought only the evil Mooslims were offended at cartoons?

Geert Wilders is upset that his party the (anti)Freedom party was accurately compared to the Nazis. He wants it to be removed. Hypocrisy-much?

While this is not a clear legal attempt by wily Wilders to ban a cartoon, he obviously wanted it censored and he is still an advocate of banning the Quran.

Disillusioned Citizen informs us that the cartoon has been removed from the offending site:

I went to the site and this is what I saw in Dutch: “De cartoon ‘Wordt vervolgd’ die hier te zien was sinds 11 februari 2011 is op 24 februari verwijderd na ernstige bedreigingen aan het adres van VARA-medewerkers.”

I popped that on to Google translate and this is what it says (sorry I don’t speak Dutch):

“The cartoon “Continued” was shown here since February 11, 2011 to February 24 after removal due to serious threats against VARA staff.”

I guess Geert Wilders has learned a thing or two from the Jihadis: threat of death gets things done.

Wilders angry about cartoon

Freedom party leader Geert Wilders is angry at Dutch public broadcaster VARA for publishing a cartoon on its website Joop.nl which compares a Freedom Party (PVV) plan to Nazi practices. The party recently proposed building so-called ‘scum villages’ for anti-social people. In the cartoon, the residents of such a village are being led to a shower, the same way the prisoners of Nazi destruction camps were led to ‘showers’ where they were gassed.

Mr Wilders said on Saturday it was “a disgusting cartoon. It must be removed from that website immediately, or the PVV will not attend the VARA provincial elections debate scheduled for next Wednesday.” Mr Wilders spoke of “sick minds” at the VARA.

The Joop.nl website is funded by VARA, but has full editorial independence. Francisco van Jole, the website’s editor-in-chief, said Mr Wilders remarks were tantamount to blackmail and that the programme which the Freedom Party was scheduled to attend had nothing to do with Joop.nl. He said he would not remove the cartoon: “This is the opinion of an opinion maker who we are offering a platform. This does not mean we necessarily always share his opinion. It is simply intended to spark debate.”

Mr van Jole said he found it odd that a politician would seek to ban this cartoon. “I understand he is upset … but it forms part of the social debate.” He said Mr Wilders was trying to smother the debate. A VARA spokesperson said the organisation did not necessarily share the opinions presented on Joop.nl and would very much like the Freedom Party to attend Wednesday’s provincial elections debate, but had no intention of ordering Joop.nl to remove the cartoon.

How many lives would have been saved if Hitler had been executed for treason after the Beer Hall Putsch?

  • TRUE AMERICAN

You know the funny thing is that the nazis after the temporary ban fallowing munich would call themselves the “National Socialist Freedom Party”. hmmmmm….

  • Cynic

    *douche

  • Cynic

I think he’s just objecting to the fact that the sign appears to be calling him a douch .

  • crow

it’s easy, if geert wilders doesn’t want to be portrayed as a nazi, then don’t fucking act like one.

  • mp11

Forget his clear calls to ban the Koran, how about collective punishment (but only of Muslims)

More than 50% of people in Dutch jails are Muslims; deport them and their families.

    http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2009/04/freedom-lovers-come-out-for-wilders.html

Or how about that Muslims are not human?

“It should be equally easy to leave Islam by pronouncing a counter-Shahada, which says “I leave Islam and join humankind.”

This is very serious stuff and all people need to wake up and stop calling this guy a loon. Hitler was dismissed as a loon who would not be able to get power or popular support and we know the rest.

This idiot is worthless on the podium, yet he is canvassing his ‘hatred filled racism’ across north america, as if he is on a mercy mission to save the planet from evil aliens!
Its an IRNOY that tons of qualified scholars and academics and peace activists like george galloway were barred entry into canada for speaking truth by condemning Israel’s illegal occupation, supporting human rights of Palestinians etc.
Even an acknowledged scholar like zakir naik is still facing a ban in canada for his comments which were blown out of context by the ‘mad`ia’ (read media).
Such double standards are classic examples of hypocrisy of the states. No wonder nazi-kind geert wild`ers is freely roaming delivering his filthy and hate filled rants about moozlems in ‘civil’ world.
geert loony is a true gem of this hypocrite community characterized by irrational, and insanely foul thinking personalities fueled by utter lack of knowledge (at least these loonies should make one sincere attempt to grab just the basics right (leaving their myths aside for once) before delivering their ‘RANT’ about moooozlems!)

Didn’t he talk about how freedom of speech was being threatened in Europe? I guess he can dish it out but can’t take it!

  • khan4

    The Geert Wilders song:

  • Mosizzle

    “Serious threats against VARA staff”?

Wow. Hypocrisy is the right word to describe this situation. Wilders’ supporters are ready to defend his right to say hateful things but not VARA’s right to poke fun at his insane policies.

The man who compared the Quran to Mein Kampf is now ‘offended’ when the same Nazi comparison is made about him…

Umm you guys do know that the cartoon was removed from the site right? I went to the site and this is what I saw in Dutch: “De cartoon ‘Wordt vervolgd’ die hier te zien was sinds 11 februari 2011 is op 24 februari verwijderd na ernstige bedreigingen aan het adres van VARA-medewerkers.”

Does anyone know anything about his case. What is the latest? when is he due to be judged?

  • NassirH

Apart from his desire to ban the Qur’an, he supports other loony things (e.g. a tax on the hijab) that are antithetical to the values he claims to fight for.

  • Anyone else notice the “douche” sign? So fitting it’s right above Geert.

  • Danios

I am forced to agree with Salam on this one. Having said that, Geert Wilders has a poor track record when it comes to freedom of speech: his explicit desire to ban the Quran is proof enough that he doesn’t believe in freedom of speech.

  • Salam

This has nothing to do with freedom of speech, as he isn’t trying to prevent the person from expressing his opinions trough either the legal system or in illegal ways (threats of violence etc.). You have the right to call me an inbred donkey, but I also have to right to boycott the party you’re having next week, unless you apologize.

  • Al

I’ve seen these cartoons before- grim- albeit funny.

  • Jack

You do realise it’s a picture of Wilders in SS-uniform, directing Muslims to the gas chamber (the sign says ‘shower’ which is a reference to gas chambers at Auschwitz concentration camp being disguised as showers).

The cartoon was in response to an idea by Wilders Freedom Party to take ghetto- and trailer trash criminals out of neighborhoods and relocate them to ‘scum villages’ somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

  • mindy1

I thought free expression was a good thing. Just do a cartoon disagreeing with their cartoon

  • Crow

Its not so much that wilders dis agrees with the cartoon hes just not ready to come out of the closet on who he is. LOL

  • Jack

Old news. He didn’t request the cartoon to be banned per se, he just boycotted another program by the same broadcasting company that hosted the website (although it’s run independently) where this cartoon was published.

More recent news is that while on a tour in Canada, Wilders’ aides censored journalists, and later that week incited Christians in a Tennesee church to “wake up” and defend themselves against Islam prowling at their gates.
