Feds: Texas Man Threatened Murfreesboro Mosque

Javier Correa threatened to bomb the Murfreesboro Mosque:

Feds: Texas man threatened Murfreesboro mosque

A federal grand jury on Thursday charged 24-year-old Texas resident Javier Alan Correa with violating the civil rights of members of a mosque in Murfreesboro, Tenn. mosque that has been the target of previous anti-Muslim attacks.

Correa is charged with “intentionally obstructing by threat of force the free exercise of religious beliefs and one count of using an instrument of interstate commerce to communicate a threat to destroy a building by means of an explosive device,” the feds said in a press release.

Correa allegedly used a cell phone to call the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro and left a message saying there was going to be a bomb in the building on the 10th anniversay of the September 11 terrorist attacks. “Listen up you fucking Muslim bitches, go back to your fucking dirty fucking country, fucking Muslim fascists, get the fuck out of here,” he allegedly stated.

“The controversy and criminal activity surrounding the construction of this particular place of worship has impeded the ability of people to exercise that most basic right,” U.S. Attorney Jerry E. Martin of the Middle District of Tennessee said in a statement. “We will continue to monitor the progress of construction and legal proceedings at the local level to insure these citizens are able to enjoy all basic liberties guaranteed under the Constitution.”

@AJ, she is welcome to please whatever she regards as her lord by covering her face and it doesn’t offend me that she is wearing it, although I find it ridiculous. However in the unlikely situation where she wishes to engage me in conversation I would politely ask her to remove the face covering. If she refuses then the conversation is over, I respect her wish to cover her face and I would hope she would respect my wish not to enter into conversation with somebody who refuses to show their face.

  • HGG

“I don’t care if it is prejudiced. In my culture one on one conversations are carried out with the face in full view.”

I must confess I’m unfamiliar with that particular bit of Western proper etiquette.

The fact still remains that a woman wearing a veil doesn’t mean any disrespect to you and yet you will use her clothing to disrespect her.

  • AJ’s Mom

I wonder who that lady with niqab was who has created such a furor on Loonwatch?

  • http://aayjay.wordpress.com AJ

“Turning your back” during a conversation is not religiously mandated and if somebody does that, they intend to offend you.

The lady who is wearing the niqab in a restaurant is not wearing it because she wants to offend you; she wears it to please her Lord. If in doubts about her intentions, why not ask her, “Hey you! Do you want to offend me by covering your face or do you do it religiously?” I think you already her answer.

Now, I don’t plan to get into a diatribe with you (a standard atheist’s next move) where you would start telling me why wearing a niqab is not religiously mandated. We are NOT trying to establish if a niqab is religiously mandated by Islam or not; we ARE trying to see what that lady’s intentions were and it was certainly not rudeness.

  • MrIslamanswersback

But a Muslim women in niqab can have a conversation with a person face to face ,so your comparison of turning your back makes no sense. As you could still hear her voice , you just would not see her whole face . SO try some other excuses to cover your bigotry. And stop comparing what Saudi does to the lives of Muslims world wide. Saudi is not our country or home land.So what they do has no bearing on what Muslims in America or else where do with our lives. Thus no need to tell us what Saudi does in your attempts to excuse bigotry in the America or the west.

  • Steve

I don’t care if it is prejudiced. In my culture one on one conversations are carried out with the face in full view. If I turned my back to you if we were holding a conversation would you regard that as good manners?

  • HGG

“I have no desire to hold a conversation with somebody who lacks the good manners to uncover their face.”

You don’t see how prejudiced is that statement?

  • Steve

I have no desire to hold a conversation with somebody who lacks the good manners to uncover their face.

  • http://aayjay.wordpress.com AJ

“I believe in equal rights for all, you don’t, it’s as simple as that.”

Then next time, have a dialogue with the Muslim lady in the niqab and stop poisoning your kids’ minds about Muslims, also.

  • Steve

AJ, you keep banging on about my “hate and bigotry”, please provide some evidence.

I believe in equal rights for all, you don’t, it’s as simple as that.

  • http://aayjay.wordpress.com AJ

    Steve,

Let’s look at it this way. You are trying to destroy a “free society” with your bigoted views while I try the opposite.

  • Steve

@AJ, I live in a free society, I don’t hate anybody just because they might belive in something. You don’t live in a free society. Please don’t paint me with your brush.

  • http://Aayjay.wordpress.com AJ

    @Steve,

How about you do the easier thing i.e. work on thyself – your hate and bigotry – while I work on others?

  • Steve

@AJ, I don’t hate anybody because of their religion, I am not sure how many times I have to say that

@Nuralia, “About the niqab thing. I still dont belive you about the spegetti, but that is not my point her”

That’s good because I never mentioned spaghetti. I have never seen a woman in a niqab eating spaghetti.

“We are ONLY asking about a point of jurisprudance…nothing else”

That point of jurisprudence is of no consequence where I live, it means nothing. I don’t hate any woman in a niqab, i dislike the niqab, not the person

@AJ, “I can not control what others do”
Really? Do you go to the mosque in Saudia Arabia where you live? Do you speak up that the national religion is wrong?

  • NurAlia

    Oh…and Steve

About the niqab thing. I still dont belive you about the spegetti, but that is not my point here.

You never really seem to ANSWER the simple question without going off topic.

It is…How is it less oppressive to restrict or deny a woman’s right to wear what she choses, than to force her to wear something she doesnt chose to wear?

Remember, try not to interject your PERSONAL feelings about her, her religion, or how she looks to you. Please dont imply something you cant possibly know about her, or her children…such as ‘how her children appear to her’.

We are ONLY asking about a point of jurisprudance…nothing else.

  • NurAlia

    Steve…

Perhaps you dont seem to understand that, when your freedom depends on what someone else does, you become a slave to that person.

So…if an American’s right to build a house of worship on American soil depends on the right of someone else building a house of worship on the soil of another country…you have given up your freedom to chose up, and based it on someone elses actions.

Steve…lets understand…that governments do not GIVE the right to exist, or to express ourselves freely…the PROTECT our right to do those things.

  • http://aayjay.wordpress.com AJ

    Steve,

I choose not to hate people because of their religion. I can not control what others do. I can control what I do. You hate people because of their religion – refusing to talk to a person is hating that person. You are a bigot plus a hypocrite as the other thread shows.

  • Steve

AJ, you choose to live in one of the most repressive countries in the world where freedom of religion is illegal, what are you doing to change that? It’s easy to throw around the word bigot because somebody doesn’t agree with everything you want them to agree with but to choose to live in a repressive anti-humanity regime when you actually have the choice not to is far more telling.

As for the woman in the niqab I don’t recall ever saying I hated her, I don’t know her, so how could I hate her? I said I found it sad that her children couldn’t see her face, I said I found it ridiculous she had to eat by putting a fork up inside a flap of cloth, I said I find the whole face covering nonsense to be distasteful and that I wouldn’t enter into a one on one conversation with somebody who refused to uncover their face.

  • http://aayjay.wordpress.com AJ

    Steve,

Did I immigrate to Saudi Arabia or did I immigrate to the United States of America?

Am I a citizen of Saudi Arabia that does not guarantee public expression of religion or am I a citizen of the United States of America that protects the freedom of speech and freedom of religion of every individual?

Did I take an oath to defend the theocracy of Saudi Arabia or did I take an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States of America?

Next time, when I raise concerns about my protected religious rights, as a Muslim citizen of the USA, please remind yourself of the above questions before deflecting the topic to the religious freedom in the Saudi Arabia. Thank you.

And yes, hating someone because of their religious garb is bigotry. You are a bigot, Steve and you don’t need to be proud of yourself.

  • Steve

AJ, why is there no movement for freedom of religion in Saudi Arabia? Why don’t you start a movement for freedom of religion in Saudi Arabia? How about hindus or atheists entering mecca and medina?

I find people covering their faces in public places such as restaurants to be very rude. I tolerated the woman, I didn’t do anything to prevent her from wearing a niqab as she was perfectly within her rights to wear one here. We have freedom of religion here.

  • http://aayjay.wordpress.com AJ

Steve, there is no movement here that I am aware of. If there is, I will support it. On another post of LW, I have even supported People of the Scripture’s right to enter Makkah and Madinah. You, my friend, can’t even tolerate a Muslim woman with a niqab eating in a restaurant. So yeah let’s talk about bigotry. Enough of your charade and your deflections!

County files appeal in Murfreesboro mosque case
    http://www.murfreesboropost.com/breaking-news-county-files-appeal-in-murfreesboro-mosque-case-cms-31610

On Thursday, Rutherford County officials filed a notice to appeal a local judge’s ruling that voided approval for construction of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro.

In May, Chancellor Robert Corlew III ruled the Planning Commission failed to provide adequate public notice prior to approving a site plan proposal to build the Islamic Center, which subsequently led to opponents filing an injunction request to stop construction.

On June 13, Corlew granted a partial injunction blocking Rutherford County officials from issuing the Islamic Center an occupancy certificate, which would allow use of the mosque, because his previous decision voided authorization for construction.

According to court documents, county attorneys questioned whether requiring the Planning Commission to treat the Islamic Center differently than other religious organizations violates the U.S. Constitution and Tennessee Constitution.

The move comes one week after the Rutherford County Commission voted to appeal the ruling.

  • Steve

AJ, when people try to build a church where you live do you support them?

  • http://aayjay.wordpress.com AJ

The irony of the situation is that this guy, based upon his name, is perhaps an immigrant and a minority himself and should be more sympathetic to people like him.

  • mindy1

I love it when those who claim to defend freedom try to stifle it for others
