These are the “shining lights” of Western Civilization that the likes of Spencer and Geller have praised and are happy to be associated with. EDL thugs march shouting slogans about burning “Mosques” (via. Islamophobia-Watch):

Three men from an anti-Islamic group were arrested on Saturday during a march against plans for a new mosque in Chelmsford.

More than 30 members of the English Defence League waved placards saying “no to radical Islam”, while others shouted racial slurs during a rally from the Plough Inn in Duke Street to the High Street.

The controversial right-wing group was marching against plans for a new mosque in Regina Way, Chelmsford, as part of the Waitrose supermarket development.

Police officers surrounded the mob as they reached Superdrug in the High Street and formed a blockade so that they could not go any further. The protest then spilled back towards Shire Hall where it drew crowds of onlookers.

Chairman of the EDL southeast Paul Pitt told the Chronicle: “We are campaigning hard against this mosque and making sure that it does not happen. Chelmsford has just become a city, we do not want to see a mega mosque here.”

Whether you call it conservative or radical or hardline or whatever – there is a non-trivial amount of it in the UK I think. But – more to the point of this post – shouldn’t anyone who shouts burn a mosque (even in a conditional sentence)be arrested, pretty much automatically? Makes much more sense than arresting someone for a silly and obviously facetious tweet about blowing up an airport. There have been many attacks on mosques in the UK, some involving arson, and I’d be surprised if there wasn’t a huge intersection between EDL support and the attackers.

It seems to me that, the adjective “radical” is often used by Islamophobes as a euphemism. It is similar to the shift away from rightwing Paki-bashing to Islamophobia as a canard. Just a cowardly way to avoid the legislation against race-based anti hate-speech laws.

When looking up the word “radical” in the O.E.D. I see that it derives from the Latin “radix”, implying a return to the original roots. So in this case mainstream Islam is itself radical is it not?

I would like to see if there is any evidence of a real world causal link to what you are saying, as opposed to the fevered quixoticism of rabble-rousing neo-Moselyites.

I have no time for the EDL but to say all their concerns are imaginary is rather ridiculous. Radical islam isn’t unknown in the UK. Granted much of the reaction of the EDL is against halfwits such as Andy Choudary and his silly little supremacist groups but other more serious groups do exist.

The problem isn’t that their concerns are being ignored. It is that their concerns are imaginary. Take some time to properly peruse this site. The articles are generally evidence-based, so you needn’t be concerned about lack of credibility. Once you have completed your readings (as is necessary before any intellectual discussion), you are more than welcome to submit proof and evidence that these concerns are in fact still legitimate. Loonwatch will then have the opportunity to respond, and then we will all enjoy some constructive debate. If all you have to bring to the table is snide comments, underhandedness, being condescending and patronising; then please take your unsubstantiated opinions elsewhere.

Also, I would like to point out that your opinion is in fact NOT your own, as you have copy-and-pasted it from noted racists, bigots and Islamophobes.

My opinion is my own

This group really loses any credibility or sympathy they have with non-violent people. Let Muslims burn poppies it makes will ultimately turn the masses against them and be their doing. Racism and threats of violence are never acceptable. Leave that to the Muslims. There are laws in Britain why no arrests?

On a side note: there are few Muslims in Chelmsford what are they doing there?

The EDL are mainly white working-class people whose concerns have been ignored by the mainstream political parties, the are mostly poorly educated and inarticulate. The don’t realise their actions fuel the chattering middle-classes, left-wing and Islam apologists. It gives them something to sneer at.
