Rep. Joe Walsh: Muslims “trying to kill Americans”

Rep. Joe Walsh has a history of bigoted anti-Islam and anti-Muslim statements. In a recent town hall the Congressman didn’t even have the decency to correct a man in the crowd who described Islam as a “dangerous” threat to the USA,

“I’m looking for some godly men and women in the Senate, in the Congress, who will stand in the face of the danger of Islam in America without political correctness,” the man said.  “Islam is not the peaceful, loving religion we hear about.”

The line was met with applause.

Perhaps he was fearful of doing the right thing, considering all of the applause that the crowd member received. If that is the case Walsh is not only an appeaser of bigotry but also an amoral coward.

Instead, Walsh stoked the populist flames of anti-Muslim sentiments further to a crowd that clearly wasn’t able to differentiate between extremists and the vast majority of Muslims,

Walsh responded by asserting that radical Muslims are “trying to kill Americans every week,” and that “it’s not a matter of ‘if’ – it’s a matter of ‘when’” a 9/11-like attack will happen again.

“All I can tell you about the ‘when’ is, the people who would want to do this to America are trying to get their hands on weapons that will make 9/11 look like child’s play.”

Added Walsh: “So we had better be alert to this.  And as [the audience member] said … ‘Enough with political correctness!”

The crowd, which was mostly white, applauded.

This fear-mongering and over exaggeration of the threat from Islamist extremists is exactly what we don’t need from politicians. It promotes ignorance, bigotry, sectarianism and divisiveness.

Walsh: Muslims “trying to kill Americans”

by Eric Lutz (Salon.com)

U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh went on another anti-Islam tirade Wednesday, calling for an end to “political correctness” in dealing with the “radical strain of Islam” he described as an imminent danger to America.

“It’s a real threat,” Walsh said at a town hall meeting in Elk Grove Village, Ill.  “And it’s a threat that is much more at home now than it was right after 9/11.”

“It’s here,” he continued, referring to “radical Islam” in the suburbs of Chicago. “It’s in Elk Grove, it’s in Addison, it’s in Elgin. It’s here.”

The remarks — captured on tape — came in response to an Egyptian-American audience member who said Muslims are taking over America and charged the freshman congressman to take a more aggressive stance against the religion.

“I’m looking for some godly men and women in the Senate, in the Congress, who will stand in the face of the danger of Islam in America without political correctness,” the man said.  “Islam is not the peaceful, loving religion we hear about.”

The line was met with applause.

“Can you say ‘Fort Hood’?” Walsh continued, referring to the 2009 shooting at the Texas military base that left 13 dead and 29 wounded.  A report concluded the shooter, Nidal Malik Hasan, was a homegrown terrorist.

“Your government was so afraid of doing its job, so afraid of offending Islam, that right in front of our noses, they saw what was happening at Fort Hood and because the government’s politically correct, Americans died.”

The Tea Party Republican, who serves on the Homeland Security Committee, has been known for his incendiary remarks since winning his House seat in 2010. He set off a media firestorm last month when he appeared to question the heroism of his opponent, Democrat Tammy Duckworth, an Iraq war vet who lost both her legs in combat.

plz brother dont talk abt islam is wrong those not follow islam they r not real muslim many peoples misunderstand about islam..islam is not teaching about terrorism.”Islam does not support terrorism under any circumstances. Terrorism goes against every principle in Islam. If a Muslim engages in terrorism, he is not following Islam. He may be wrongly using the name of Islam for political or financial gain.allah said in quran , ‘Do not kill women or children or non-combatants and do not kill old people or religious people….'”A so-called Muslim who kills innocent people is not a real Muslim – as a Muslim is defined as “one who submits to the Creator of mankind, the heavens and the earth.” God commands people to be kind and do good deeds, to take care of the poor and less fortunate, and to protect innocent people from harm or injustice. Therefore, if someone kills an innocent person, they are not “submitting to the will of God” and cannot be considered a Muslim. first of all read quran fully .. quran doest not allow to kill innocent people . All the parts of the body are equal created by the only one god not created by the different religions of gods. the first man and woman were adam and eve, the first parent of whole human race.

    @Josh

    >and that is the Islamist brainwashing people with their anti hate propaganda causing those people to terrorize.

I’ll hazard a guess and say that English is not your first language.

ALL MUSLIMS ARE NOT TERRORIST BUT ALL TERRORIST ARE MUSLIM:

TODAY THE INTERNATIONAL MEDIA ESPECIALLY WESTERN MEDIA THEY ARE SAYING THAT…

But if you go back to the history of the world you will find 100% falsehood in this statement.

    For example:

1)in the history of the world who has killed maximum innocent human beings?????
    “hitler”
do you know who was he?????
    he was a christian????????
but media will never say that christians are terrorist!!!!!

2)joseph stalin called as uncle joe
“he has killed 20 million human beings including 14.5 million were starved to death”
    was he muslim??

    3) mao tse tsung (china)
“he has killed 14 to 20 million human beings.”
    Was he muslim??

    4) benito mussolini (italy)
“he has killed 400 thousand human being.
    Was he muslim??

    5) ashoka
“in kalinga battle he has killed 100 thousand human being.
    Was he muslim??
    ————-
we have our own black sheep’s also for killing few hundred thousand human beings.
    But…

    6) embargo put by george bush

in iraq 1/2 million children has been killed in iraq alone!!!
Imagine this people are never called terrorist by the media.

    Why??

i hope after knowing this historical records you will come to know that this is 100% falsehood that “all muslims are not terrorist but all terrorist are muslim.”

Today the majority of the non muslims are afraid by hearing the words “jihad”
what is the meaning of the word “jihad”??

jihad is an arabic word which comes from root arabic word “jahad” which means “to strive” or “to struggle”

for example if a student is striving for getting good marks in the examination this is jihad for that student.

I am asking what is wrong in this kind of teaching?.

And regarding the fighting you know sir you cannot show me a single major religious scripture on the face of the earth which is not allowing fighting against evil.

If you read bhagwad geeta. Here shri Krishna advices to yudhister to fight (refer bhagwad geeta ch.1 verse 42,43,44,45 ch.2 verse 1,2,33 and 37)
the bhagwad geeta has more verses about fighting than the qur’an.

    What about the Christianity???

    Read the

    gospel of Luke ch.19 v.27
gospel of Matthew ch.10 verse 34
gospel of Luke ch.22 verse 36
all above verses are allowing to fight????????

Then why you have never objected to that kind of teaching?

My brother why you have problem with Islam only???

May Allah give you courage to accept the religion of peace.

First, we should admit that terrorists are not only among Muslims but also among all other religions as well. However, media and politicians, for their own goals and objectives, are exaggerating Terrorist acts committed by the claimed Muslims to fulfill these goals and objectives.

Muslim, as other religion followers, are extremists who think that they defending their own cause by attacking civilans and innocent people.

Those extremists are brainwashed and knowing nothing about Islam or any other religion.

All religions, including Islam in particular, call for peace, tolerance, and cooperation for the good of mankind.

@Pork, what happend to you to make you such a hater??? Did you get rejected by a muslim person at one point, did you get fired by one??

  • LORD Pork

@ wanderer:If a poisonous SNAKE bites you,it would be foolish to bite it back as a proportional response.I have seen the monkeys holding the attacking snake by its head and not by its tail and keep rubbing it on the ground and also spitting on it till it is dead. The TERRORISTS and the countries which sponsor them should be given the monkey treatment. No stupid dialogues.

    @Haterhaterz
You’re not getting the full grip when I say “securing our borders.” When I say “securing our borders” I mean I want to be right here in America protecting the american people(including you) from harm. Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakitstan do not borders. I can get in alot of trouble if I say to much about the war and our president but I’m here to say this, as a soldier living here on base counting the days until MOS unit is called for deployment, I would rather stay here and protect the country, then go into another country and wait to get shot at. This war is not good for anyone. So when I say secure the border, I don’t mean I believe muslims are going to take over the world, I mean to protect the people from anything. As for political correctness I mean I’m tired of people being sensitive to any group whether they are an ethnic, politcal etc. I hate political correctness! Even though you may not agree on Islamic extremism and I’m sure you condemn any Islamist, I hope you are aware that there are Islamist in this country at schools and community centers spreading anti west hate that is threat I am talking about, and that is the Islamist brainwashing people with their anti hate propaganda causing those people to terrorize. now you can go ahead and brush it under the rug like most of the people here at Loon watch do but really see that is the threat that most americans view.

  • Hatethehaterz

@Garibaldi: Sorry for any off-topic tangents, but I beleive the jist of my discussion with Josh does concern Walsh and his comments.

@Josh: Regardless of who is to blame (i.e. the military vs. our leadership), my point is that Joe Walsh’s argument is patently false. He is insinuating that ALL (or most) Muslims are trying to kill Americans. Evidence points to the contrary. There are far MORE American soldiers in Muslim countries who have and currently are killing far more Muslims than any Americans killed in “Islamic” terror attacks. You can at least see that, right Josh? That regardless of motivations or blame, far more Muslims (including American Muslims – for example in hate crimes) have been killed than Americans, right? We’re talking total numbers here.

Also, your assertion that “every terrorist attack… has a tie to Islam” has already been refuted here in one of Loonwatch’s most popular articles: http://www.loonwatch.com/2010/01/not-all-terrorists-are-muslims/

Sadly, anti-Muslim propaganda and selective media reporting fuels this false-hood (that all terrorists are Muslim).

Also, the assertion that military actions in Iraq, Pakistan, or Afghanistan are somehow “securing our borders” is also false. Loonwatch dealt with this here (among other places): http://www.loonwatch.com/2012/07/study-muslim-extremists-not-looking-for-world-domination/

It is in fact these military actions, and NOT Islam wich fuel radical extremism against the west. Extremists espouse a narrative of self-defense against violent western aggression; not Islamic domination of the west. So if anything, these military actions are having the exact OPPOSITE effect to “securing our borders.” They are in fact fueling violent extremism against us and making us LESS secure.

As far as the bit about political correctness, where are Walsh or any of his fellow Islamophobes being politically correct? Or more to the point, how exactly is political correctness getting in the way? I see almost nothing but criticism of and promotion of bigotry towards Islam and Muslims in most of the mainstream media. So where is this policital correctness? He said that “Islam is not a peaceful… religion.” Seems pretty politically incorrect to me.

  • Josh

    @Hatethehaterz

Native Americans should not embrace Islam, they would be turning their backs on their culture cause native customs and muslims custom are not compatible. Also mostly every native has fought in the military, even though what the US government is unforgivable, an native in the arm forces is very common. It sorta of Warrior Tradition.

  • Josh

    @Garibaldi

I know, the reason why I was talking about the military cause I read one of the comments making it look like the military is to blame. But on the Joe Walsh thing, some of the things I agree with him on. He is right of the political correctness thing, it’s time to stop that, also home grown terrorism I know it’s being brought up here, you can pretend like it doesn’t exist but for some reason every terrorist or attempted terrrist attack happens here it has a tie to Islam. Sure yeah they could’ve acted on their own but why is it they keep interpreting to do that? what is that a muslim would see than I wouldn’t?

    @Josh,

I understand where you are coming from, and I think the largest amount of blame must obviously sit on the shoulders of war mongering leaders and the Military Industrial Complex.

The position soldiers are in, most of them at least (because there is also a significant Crusader culture in the Army as well) is a complex one.

I understand “conscientious objector” status is not easy to attain and when you’re in economic straits can be a hard choice, but I want to add that when faced with an unjust war the “just doing my duty” excuse is not good enough.

By the way everyone, this article is about the despicable John Walsh, lets try to stick to that.
