Knesset Candidate Suggests Dome of the Rock Should Be ‘Blown Up’

Jeremy Gimpel

These “suggestions” are familiar stock and trade language with Islamophobes. A few years ago you had Geller saying it and now you have another Israeli politician, this time from the Habayit Hayehudi “suggesting” it.

Knesset candidate suggests Dome of the Rock should be ‘blown up’

Until Friday, Jeremy Gimpel was just a name on a list. To be precise, he was number 14 on the list of Knesset candidates for Habayit Hayehudi, the new incarnation of the National Religious Party headed by Israel’s new political rock star, Naftali Bennett.

But the spotlight began glaring on Gimpel over the weekend after video from a speech the Atlanta-born Gimpel made to the Fellowship Church in Winter Springs, Florida, was posted on Facebook by journalist Yehuda Nuriel. The video caught the eye of veteran commentator Amnon Abramovich, who broadcast the video on the widely-viewed Channel 2 newscast on Friday night. In his lecture, Gimpel said:

“Imagine if the Golden Dome – I’m being recorded so I can’t say ‘blown up’ – but let’s say the Dome was blown up, right? And we laid the cornerstone of the Temple in Jerusalem. Can you imagine? None of you would be here – all of you would be like, “I’m going to Israel, right?” No one would be here, it would be incredible!”

After the newscast the video of Gimpel’s words went viral on Israeli Facebook, stunned commenters called Gimpel “dangerous,” “psychotic” and “a religious fanatic.” Nuriel followed up withanother video of a televised radio show in which Gimpel is quoted as saying the Dome of the Rock is so visually striking in Jerusalem in order to send the message that it “doesn’t really belong there.”

The ADL has also recently condemned Gimpel for his hateful statement.

I agree. Whoever runs Bare Naked Islam is probably jumping with glee at the thought of the Dome of the Rock getting destroyed.

    Lets blow up a mosque.
    How original.

It’s not surprising he is playing to a particular crowd without caring or thinking how it will be seen more generally
As an example – Jeremy clarkson of top gear programme gets lots of after dinner stuff and so on from groups with a lot of white middle aged or self employed men so he keeps them happy by spouting anti green views and anti immigrant
What we should draw attention to is
    1. The money connection he is going to these churches full of Christian fundamentalists to raise money
    2. Show these idiots what he and his party think if them – goyim are subhuman and like India’s untouchables and what they say about Jesus
These bigots know we love Jesus so would not like to repeat their rubbish but if someone could spread a public campaign on the insults they use when speaking to their fellow fundos we could open peoples eyes

Can you imagine a Christian…who belives that Jesus shed blood to redeem them of sin, and claim that Jesus is the ONLY right way to God, destroying the holy site of another people…in order to build a temple…so that animal sacrifice can be used to appease God again.
    How is that for hypocracy?

Thanks for bringing to our attention Gimpel the Fool.

He is an obvious bigoted moron for sure, and the way he’s playing to the apocalyptic Christian Zionist crowd is uber-slimey.

  • mindy1

Oh my, what is going on inside some peoples heads

  • Just_Stopping_By

Jeremy Gimpel is obviously a bigot and a moron. People should watch the first video to see how neither he nor his audience realize how wrong and offensive his comments are.

While the story itself is not funny, there is at least one amusing side bit for anyone who knows Jewish culture. The late Nobel Laureate Isaac Bashevits Singer wrote a famous story in 1953, Gimpel the Fool. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gimpel_the_Fool. How prescient.
