Round 3: Ms. Marvel and the Comic Book Jihad

Ms Marvel

by Ilisha

We first exposed Marvel’s comic book jihad in the fall of 2011 in an article entitled, THE 99 Superheroes Vs. The Loons. The plot was foiled by self-proclaimed defenders of freedom from across the looniverse.

The 99 series was scheduled to launch in the US on the The Hub children’s television network. When producers announced the series was postponed indefinitely, vicious anti-Muslim bigots everywhere were gleeful, boasting that their small but boisterous outcry may have prompted the delay.

A few months later, super sleuth Daniel Pipes joined the crusade in Round 2: THE 99 Superheroes Vs. The Loons. Pipes decried the series as “missionizing propaganda” aimed at the already pervasive “Islamic indoctrination of Western children.”

Now Stephen Colbert has exposed the latest developments in Round 3 of Marvel’s relentless comic book jihad:

Raw Story: Colbert: Ms. Marvel comic reboot as Muslim teen another example of ‘Sharia creep’

Stephen Colbert lamented the rebooted Ms. Marvel comic book series as the latest example in the impending Muslim takeover of the United States.

“Ladies and gentlemen, America has lost another battle in the culture war, which is surprising because we’ve got all the guns,” said Colbert on Wednesday night’s broadcast of The Colbert Report.

The character, who originally appeared as a superhumanly strong and fast buxom blonde in a self-titled series in the 1970s, has been reborn as a shape-shifting, 16-year-old daughter of Pakistani immigrants living in New Jersey.

Folks, this affront has taken me aback,” Colbert said. “A Muslim cannot be a superhero; for Pete’s sake, they’re on the no-fly list.

Colbert said he greatly preferred the original version of Ms. Marvel, who wore a skintight uniform with a cape and bare legs and midriff.

She was wholesome and all-American,” Colbert said. “Blonde, family values, with two bulging ‘chest muscles,’ and clearly wearing her Sunday church panties.”….

Ever-vigilant “counter jihadists” are not amused. Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch appeared on the Michael Coren show to decry this outrage, along with other miscellaneous “cold blooded” Muslim evils.

Spencer said the retooling of Ms. Marvel is a triumph for Islamic Supremacists and their leftist allies. Ever since the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001, he contends this dangerous alliance has been on the march, trying to hoodwink the public into believing Muslims are “victims.”

In previous rounds of the ongoing battle against comic book jihad, anti-Muslim bigots complained bitterly about female Muslim characters who wore burqas. However, the new Ms. Marvel appears to be wearing tights, and Spencer and Coren wondered if she would be stoned to death if she dared to enter Afghanistan in that “get up.” Spencer further speculated as to whether Ms. Marvel would have to stone to death the Green Lantern, who is now gay. If you have the stomach for it, you can watch the Spencer’s bitter commentary here.

Expressing his characteristic faux outrage about the retooling of Ms. Marvel, creeping sharia, and the latest developments in Marvel’s ongoing comic book jihad, here is Stephen Colbert:

‘Burka Avenger’ (my favorite and my grand daughter too) dubbed in Chinese is a hit where I live.

The 99 has been playing for a few years here, and is…also dubbed in Chinese. I don’t thing Marvel Comics have a real impact here, because they don’t tell our stories.

  • The greenmantle

Firstly I would like to congratulate IIisha for agreeing to model for the part . I think its very brave and upstanding of you.
Secondly have these Loons got nothing better to do ? The USA have a whole load of problems ( Debt , healthcare , housing , unemployment , education ) and their answer is to add stupidity to the list
    Sir David

  • HeGG

Back then I didn’t know who Spencer or Geller (happy times) but I remember a lot of negative attitude directed against Dust, especially because she chose to wear the niqab.

  • Tighe McCandless

My first question would be: even as a self-styled ‘scholar of Islam’ (trademark), why should anyone care what Spencer has to say about this? It’s a comic book character, for crying out loud; since when does complaining about Muslims mean that you’re an authority on what’s effectively a geek sub culture? To me, that’s like saying Jack Thompson is an authority figure on video games because he’s made a career out of campaigning against virtual violence.

It truly amazes me that people can be so utterly consumed with their own agendas that they see whatever their flavor of wrongdoing is in something. It doesn’t matter how innocuous something is (like here); everything is proof of the ever creeping and insidious nature of their pet conspiracy. Doesn’t it get tiring to be so hateful all the time? To be so afraid? It’s a cancerous, joyless way of seeing the world.

But I suspect that no group whose focus is some vast, ever present but skillfully hidden conspiracy ever truly wants it to go away. After all, if that were the case, they’d have nothing to bitch about. Careers would end – and that would just be a crying shame.

  • golden izanagi

of course those same hyper vigilant “counter jihadists” seemed to have missed the fact that the show the 99 is still on Netflix.

  • Tanveer Khan

Like Star Trek Into Darkness for example. Not that I’m complaining. I thought Khan sounded absolutely badass.

  • Just_Stopping_By

And on the other side of the balance, Disney now owns Marvel Comics, which is introducing Ms. Marvel, and Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger, is also Jewish.

Do we have to pay royalties to Spencer or Geller for the game of “Someone did something bad and they are of this religion, so I invite the reader to generalize”?

  • SarahAB

Yes – they complain that she is improbably skimpily dressed – that she would not be allowed to dress like that in many Muslim countries – but I suspect that, had she been dressed in less tightfitting, more concealing garments, and covered her hair – they’d have moaned about that too.

  • SarahAB

Though sometimes it is the case that all the good guys have American accents, and the bad guys all have English accents.

  • Laila Muhammad

for 4 yrs islamaphobes pummeled husein obama and then were defeated on election night….americans dont buy into campaigns that use hatred and smears of a entire people….thats what got us nazism

  • Jon Diamond

Here is a link to the documentary you discussed, so others may view it.

It is so disgusting to me that language like that is in a cartoon that is aimed at children.

  • moraka

It goes beyond that and recycles many of the stereotypes classics, from what Jack Shaheen calls arab-land. In fact the original song goes: “Where they cut of your ears if they don’t like your face. it’s barbaric but hey it is home´´

  • Yausari

    I never noticed that

  • Tanveer Khan

The Muslamic Empire would definitely find the Leftist Islamist alliance useful I think.

  • mindy1

Colbert-funny as usual 😀 as for the nutters, if they spent energy on things that actually mattered, then lots of world problems would be solved.

  • mindy1

Eh, I think that was just playing to dumb kids, a lot of kiddy stories are simplistic

  • golden izanagi

wonder what spencer would say about the super hero dust http://marvel.com/universe/Dust and yes spencer there are superheroes of various faiths in super hero comics such as nightcrawler who is a devout Christian.

  • Dragonite

Do they have ANY proof of any so-called “Islamic supremacists” are behind this?

Do ANY of them even have the slightest clue as to how 99% of Muslims live their daily lives?

Do ANY of them know what Islam is really about?

No? Because they’re a bunch of sad, polarized bigots with hidden agendas and giant contact lenses with “SEE ISLAMIC EVIL EVERYWHERE” written on them. Geller? Attention-seeking liar with a severe case of victimization & apparent mental issues. Spencer? Snide, cold and devious liar with underlying religious supremacist beliefs. He wants to “stop” Islam largely because he sees it as a “threat” to his own church! These people are so see-through in their petty campaigns of hate and misinformation.

Signed, a non-Muslim who really doesn’t know any Muslims nor has any special interest in Islam other than uncovering & exposing lies about it.

  • Jennifer Anne Bangstrom

That Robert Spenser video is indeed pretty lame. He and the other host don’t seem to be able to imagine that you might just as well create a Muslim hero as one of any other religion or ethnicity. No–it can only be because of some sort of “agenda”! Amazing.

  • Jon Diamond

If you want to see a movie indoctrinating children to hate Muslims, watch Aladdin. All the good guys have American accents and the bad guys all have Arab accents. Brought to you by Michael Eisner and Jeffrey Katzenberg of Disney.
