China orders Muslim shopkeepers to sell alcohol, cigarettes, to ‘weaken’ Islam

xinjiang

Absurd measures by a worried, officially atheist, regime in China.

By Simon Denyer, Washington Post

Chinese authorities have ordered Muslim shopkeepers and restaurant owners in a village in its troubled Xinjiang region to sell alcohol and cigarettes, and promote them in “eye-catching displays,” in an attempt to undermine Islam’s hold on local residents, Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported. Establishments that failed to comply were threatened with closure and their owners with prosecution.

Facing widespread discontent over its repressive rule in the mainly Muslim province of Xinjiang, and mounting violence in the past two years, China has launched a series of “strike hard” campaigns to weaken the hold of Islam in the western region. Government employees and children have been barred from attending mosques or observing the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan. In many places, women have been barred from wearing face-covering veils, and men discouraged from growing long beards.

In the village of Aktash in southern Xinjiang, Communist Party official Adil Sulayman, told RFA that many local shopkeepers had stopped selling alcohol and cigarettes from 2012 “because they fear public scorn,” while many locals had decided to abstain from drinking and smoking.

[a belief that god doesn’t exist is still a belief…]

You are treading on both sides there by calling it both a belief and “lack of” belief, it can’t be both so choose one and stop playing with words by saying “belief system”, that is a totally different thing.

[ don’t think the north Koreas are atheists…]

It is the regime of North Korea that matters. As per their official manual it is an “Atheist state” and goes on further to say religion is bad etc. just like you and your ilk claim.

[ as for the Russians, yes there were a declared atheist state. so what. again, there is no atheist doctrine…]

You cannot use the excuse of “lack of a doctrine” to relieve the Atheist states of their crimes. As said earlier although there is no common “book” or “doctrine” the crimes committed by all these Atheist states are almost identical and most cruel.

[he did it because you challenged his total authority.]

There you go and this in my view is due to him lacking the belief that only God has the authority and that he himself cannot harm anyone. Clear lack of humility that religion promotes.

[and even if you go with the idea that atheism is the cause of soviet oppression]

I think Atheism is partly the cause.

[and if you believe atheism is a belief system. then once again, having a government based on religion is the ‘evil’ here.]
Doesn’t matter if it is a “belief” or not. Adopting Atheism or ideas developed from it automatically means govt is not based on religion (just like NK, China and USSR) yet these demonstrated horrific crimes and “evil”.

[what do these atheist you come across say it is?]

You can find the hard work most Atheist do on the internet to say that Atheism is “lack of belief” rather than a “belief”.

[Chinese aren’t quoting a chapter and verse to justify their actions.]

You forgot North Korea and USSR etc. Although there is no common book to quote from yet the actions are the same and harsh in the 3 cases of the officially Atheist states. This shows a lot.

[separating religion from governance is much, much better than sharia.]
Tell that to the people suffering under China, NK and the dead people under USSR.

I see Mike that you are back on LW with your nth sock puppet. Hatewatch didn’t let you stay huh? Here is the thing. I have no desire to convince you whether God exists or Muhammad (pbuh) exists. Stop telling me with your incessant trolling that they don’t. To each their own, remember?

Being a Muslim is a matter of belief so yes if you are a Muslim you believe in Allah and all of his messengers. But are you implying Atheism is also a belief? Most Atheists I’ve come across disagree with this.
As far as finding something “appealing”, it could mean that you agree with a few different ideas without subscribing to the core principles e.g. charity, cleanliness and self-sacrifice in Islam.

Well, there are some things you can’t avoid but then there are many you can. For example, I got a frypan a few months ago made by Italy and skipped quite a few made by China. As they say, drop by drop makes an ocean.

Oh yes of course. “Love your enemies”. But she prefers to make everyone hate her enemies. War mongering is so popular in islamophobia.

Khanage, what, you devour Tanveer or something?

  • Tanveer “Utter Khanage” Khan

Pfft, nah, it’s fine. Scientists know everything.

  • cmyfe .

Because it would be against the principles of being a “scientist”.

  • Tanveer “Utter Khanage” Khan

Hey, buffoons who have watched a couple of youtube videos and argued a bit on online forums can question and do takfir on people who have spent years studying Islam. Why can’t scientists do the same?

If you understand the story of Esther, you will understand Geller too. She pretends to be Esther by pointing fingers at those that she feels are threatening to her people. So, a belief or thought against Jews–in her mind–is a capital offense and hence she urges everyone to act and murder off thousands of people. Anyone, according to Geller, who practices Islam (e.g. prays, fasts, gives charity) is a terrorist and hence must be destroyed. If it was up to her, the only acceptable “Islam” would be Islam empty of any signs of religious practice or belief. Considering that the story of Esther led to Jewish holiday Purim, wonder what holiday Geller would want for destroying Islam and Muslims?

Who was queen Esther: a Jewish lady who managed to get Persian king marry her. She then found out about a plot that threatened Jewish community and Persia, and decided to act on it by later ordering murders of alleged conspirators that threatened Jews in Persia.
