Hindutva Fanatic Yogi Adityanath Appointed Chief Minister Of India’s Most Populous State

Yogi Adityanath, a fanatical Hindtuva priest (wants India to be a “Hindu Rashtra,” or Hindu state) from the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, which has a population equivalent to Brazil, was appointed by Narendra Modi’s BJP to be the state’s Chief Minister. Uttar Pradesh is roughly 80% Hindu and 20% Muslim.

Speaking about Muslims he displayed such Yogi wisdom as:

“If the other side does not stay in peace, we will teach them how to stay in peace…in the language that they understand.” (Hindustan Times, 2014)

“In places where there are 10 to 20% minorities, stray communal incidents take place. Where there are 20 to 35% of them, serious communal riots take place and where they are more than 35%, there is no place for non-Muslims,” he had said. (Aap Ki Adalat, 2014)

“If they kill one Hindu, then we will kill 100 Muslims.” (Azamgarh speech, 2007)

“If they convert 1 Hindu girl, we will convert 100 Muslim girls.” (Azamgarh speech, 2007)

One wonders: will the Yogi try and make good on his call to followers to “rape dead Muslim women,” and place “idols in every mosque?” Adityanath, has been implicated in several cases for rioting and murder:

In year 1999; legal case against him was registered under section 147 (punishment for riot), 148 (rioting with deadly weapon), 295 (insult to a community’s worship site), 297 (encroachment on cemeteries) , 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on the basis of religion, caste, birthplace, residence, language etc.), 307 (attempt to murder) and 506 (punishment for criminal threat) were registered in the Maharajganj district.

Case of murder: It also the matter of Maharajganj, where the case was registered under section 302 (death penalty). Apart from this, a case was lodged against him under 307 (attempt to murder) 504 (intentional insult with intent to disrupt peace) and 427 (damaging the currency note of fifty rupees).

Some of the other policies that Adityanath promotes consist of the forced conversion of Muslims and Christians to Hinduism, which he describes as a “homecoming” but that most people understand to be crimes against humanity.

A fact finding report of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM) on Kushinagar found dozens of cases of rapes and forced kidnappings of young Muslim girls for religious conversion.

The report by AIMMM came on the heels of an event in Agra in which 50 poor Muslim families were forcibly converted to Hinduism. The families were lured by Hindutva activists under the pretense they would be attending a Hindu religious ceremony where food would be given and ration cards handed out to them.

Unique? What about France’s Gaullists and even Front National – or the Americans’ Republican Party? Erdoğan’s Turkey and Putin’s Russia are institutionally secular, too.

It was an observation based on your comment. No apology was requested or expected. I was a bit disappointed and saddened for you not supporting your own. I, like you, have experience of them and don’t favor extreme ideologies wherever they may be from.

One can easily misunderstand others online. To be fair I will again try to get him to explain his position and language. Thank you for clarifying yours. Namaste!

    • Not a sample of one. I have experience with Hindutva, which is not equivalent to Hindu nor Indian. I will judge them for their ideology, to which they choose to subscribe.

I have no use for Zionists, Nazis, and Hindutva and make no apologies.

    • Ajay Kumar

“retarded dog in heat, make you look like a ridiculous living joke.” And what are you then? A vulgar one in heat or a pious joke?

    • Ajay Kumar

So with a sample of one you project your conclusion over a whole population, a population of millions. A people you yourself come from, belong to, yet betray. How sad.

Had you any insight you’d know that you both are cut from the same cloth. You have demonstrated a mindset in common with him. Says much about your uppity comment, in common with him, his mindset, intellect and education.

    • Ajay Kumar

Why get down to their IQ to prove your point. You could surely do better than them, if your try. Don’t you think?

    • Friend of Bosnia

Its just because fascism, xenophoby, racism, bigotry have become fashionable again, as in the 1930s. Btw, I think the RSS was founded, or at least got its ideological background around that time, too. Japan too adopted fascist ideology around that time. Look at how the Japanese treated the Russian POWs of 1905 and the German POWs of 1914-18 (for most humanely) and contrast this to how they behaved towards Allied POWs in WWII (mostly beastly). See?

    • Friend of Bosnia

“Peaceful” Buddhists are the aggressors and the genocidals in Burma. But that does certainly not mean all Buddhists are evil.

    • Friend of Bosnia

Yes, but what can be done with such people? My first impulse is to go out and shoot them, but: 1) I’m not a murderer, I’m not a criminal, I have no right whatsoever to attack anyone, I don’t want to go to jail or be shot. 2) Maybe I could do that if there was a war going on, but it’s highly unlikely I would come across one of them, I could get hit myself (even though today, in a war you’re more likely to be killed if you stay at home than if you’re a soldier on the front line); and most importantly, do I seriously want war to break out or resume? No, I don’t! Only if my side, my people, are attacked. Only if war is forced on us! But let not my side fire the first shot!

    • Khizer

Quite frankly your vicious rage and the fact your lashing out like a retarded dog in heat, make you look like a ridiculous living joke.

    • Khizer

Could you present YOUR side of the arguement? Insults will not do.

I’m sure we would be delighted to see it and debate about it.

    • Thank you for coming here to demonstrate what Hindutva looks like first hand.

    • nilbud

It’s hard to know if it’s all the cousin fucking or the brainwashing or the combination that makes you a ridiculous living joke.

    • The “brainwashed dimwits” are the Hindutva, as you’re amply demonstrating with your blind hatred toward Pakistanis.

Rep. Steve King Fears A Brown Planet

Loonwatchers will be familiar with Christianist fanatic Rep. Steve King’s track record of racism against Blacks and Latinos, as well as his Islamophobia. The Iowa Congressman, who previously cast the sole vote against building a national memorial on slavery claimed: Obama’s “middle name matters” because Muslims and AlQaeda (yes, he conflates the two) will “be dancing in the streets” once he became president, supported the brutal Sisi regime coup against a democratically-elected government, called for undermining freedom of religion by instituting aggressive surveillance of mosques, invited Dutch fascist Geert Wilders, convicted of racist hate speech to address Congress, denied the existence of anti-Muslim discrimination, and last year claimed that “Western Civilization” (read: White people) basically contributed everything to humanity’s progress.

King continued his Islamophobic crusade and fangirl crush on Wilders last week. Quoting a Wilders tweet he commented that “Wilders understands that culture and demographics are our destiny. We can’t restore our civilization with somebody else’s babies.”

A majority of Dutch seem to disagree, as Wilders did far worse than expected in recent elections, losing to Center-Right politician, Mark Rutte. Who is the “our” that King is referring to? Who built “our civilization?”

King, is simply propagating the false and ignorant talking points of White supremacy. What underlines all of these racist outbursts is a deep insecurity and fragility. The US is fast approaching a majority minority nation, power will shift from the dominant group who have profited from White privilege for years to minority communities at a greater rate. Rightwing content mill-generators such as the Daily Caller (where Paul Ryan is described as a “progressive”), and Breitbart are publishing defenses of King. Ilana Mercer, laments how,

“At their inception, the core, founding populations in these countries possessed the innate abilities and philosophical sensibilities to flourish mightily. Now they’re being taught—on pain of punishment—that populations are interchangeable.”

Did she miss the memo that these so-called “core, founding populations” not only taught but actually pursued a violent “interchange” of populations themselves?

Writing in Breitbart, former Congressman/wingnut Tom Tancredo, (who made his name as an anti-Mexico/anti-immigrant xenophobe), makes the wild claim that a cabal of “globalist assassins” (globalist is code for “Jews”) is targeting King and slandering him because he defends true “American values” and “culture.”

    • AJ

I wouldn’t define Mr. Peroxide Top as a white supremacist although he moves along in the same circles due to his distaste for Islam and thus gets defined as a white supremacist too. He is an ardent hater of Islam – plain and simple. He would hate Muslims if they were the whitest of whites or blondest of blondes (which he is not BTW despite all his efforts).

    • HSkol

Persons such as Wilders cannot even properly define “white” without fully defeating themselves. They see reasonably similar skin tones without understanding the origins of such skin tones. If we were to dissect race itself, by origin and “genetic upheaval”, we’d know that many non-cohesive and independently “same race” persons exist independently of on another.

Wilders’ superficiality is obvious … but too racists themselves.

    • AJ

White supremacy… white culture… Wilders? But doesn’t he have an Indonesian Jewish heritage? Just because somebody empties a bottle of bleach on their hair doesn’t mean they are ‘white’.

AIPAC Gave Islamophobe Frank Gaffney $60,000 Donation

AIPAC (The American Israel Public Affairs Committee), has a long record of supporting Islamophobes and anti-Arab racists and bigots. It has now been revealed that they donated $60,000 to Frank Gaffney‘s Center For Security Policy (CSP). Gaffney, has made a career out of demonizing Islam and Muslims, and hyping so-called conspiracies, such as a “Muslim Brotherhood” plot to take over the US, and pushing deeply flawed poll “research” trying to paint Muslim Americans as violent fifth-columnist.

via. Haaretz

An organization operating under AIPAC, the powerful pro-Israel lobby in Washington, contributed tens of thousands of dollars to a right-wing think tank that has been accused of promoting a racist agenda against Muslims. The funds were donated to the Center for Security Policy in 2015, as part of the fight against the nuclear deal with Iran. The contribution was revealed Wednesday by the website Lobelog.

As part of its public fight against the nuclear deal, AIPAC set up in 2015 Citizens for a Nuclear Free Iran, an organization that invested close to $20 million in ads, publications and other initiatives meant to influence U.S. public opinion against the deal. Tax filings show that $60,000 of the group’s budget went to the controversial Center for Security Policy. An AIPAC official told Haaretz that the money was used for ads against the nulcear deal, stressing that it was a relatively small amount out of the organization’s overall $20 million budget.

The CSP, headed by Frank Gaffney, has been accused by its critics of promoting anti-Muslim policies and conspiracy theories. Gaffney’s work was cited by U.S. President Donald Trump during the Republican primaries in December 2015, when Trump first began calling for a total ban on Muslims entering the United States. Gaffney later served as an adviser to Trump’s transition team, and was involved in the push by some of the president’s staff to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization.

They do know better but my guess is they thought they could get away with it.

    • Joey Sanders

I guess this proves that AIPAC is primarily becoming a Zionist organization instead of a Jewish one. They should know better than to support someone like Gaffney. Recent events are showing that hate crimes are increasing against, not only Muslims, but Jews as well. Hatred is easy to spread. They should use their resources more wisely.

German Soldiers Plotted False Flag Attack To Blame On Refugees

At least two German soldiers have been arrested for plotting to commit a false flag attack and blame it on Syrian refugees. The intense focus on so-called “Islamic terrorism” obscures the threats of white nationalists and neo-Nazis that pose a greater threat to Europe than fanatical Muslim political groups.

The Independent

A second soldier has been arrested for allegedly planning a “false flag” terror attack to be blamed on refugees in Germany amid fears of a wider neo-Nazi network within the army.

The plot was exposed with the arrest of a German lieutenant, Franco A, who was found to be posing as a Syrian refugee in order to carry out a shooting attack targeting left-wing politicians.

One of his friends at Illkirch-Graffenstaden barracks in France has now been detained for allegedly covering for the soldier’s absences as he periodically returned to Bavaria to continue the ruse.

Maximilian T, a 27-year-old German national, was also a member of Jägerbataillon 291 and was arrested on Tuesday after being questioned by military intelligence officers.

He had joined his friend on a trip to Vienna in January – supposedly for an officers’ ball – where Franco A stashed an unregistered gun to be used in the attack at the city’s main airport.

Maximilian T was also part of an online messaging group where he, Franco A and other members exchanged far-right posts, photos and audio files, Der Spiegel reported.

In the 1980s it was Zionists who were framed by French far-right radicals who attacked hostels used by Maghrebi immigrants:

    • Vigilant Skeptic

I find it sad that when a small section of immigrants commit crimes (normally due to diminished opportunity in life in their final destination) or are indeed emmigrating in the first place, people can’t take a step back and asky WHY people are doing these things in the first place and what can be done to resolve the root cause.

Likewise, when a small section of the local community commits crimes against those immigrating to their community (mainly because of a sense of betrayal on their part for accepting immigrants in the first place), the immigrants themselves (and those on their side) are also seemingly incapapble of asking WHY the local people are feeling threatened and considering what can be done to alleviate the fears and feelings behind them.

People prefer to ‘pick a side and get behind it’ as it is far easy to demonise the other side then scrutinise the whole situation or indeed yourself.

    • Vigilant Skeptic

You will find most media outlets do not describe terrorists by their religious identity anymore, just by name.

And the description of the planned attack as a ‘false flag’ attack is accurate as the intent was to pose as another faction while causing damage to life and/or property. If an immigrant civilian was to dress in an army outfit and do the same in reverse, it would be called the same thing.

    • Awesome

Far right radicals plotting terror attacks to make refugees look bad. This is what it has come to……

False flag attacks are nothing new or uncommon. They just don’t make the news as such unless they fail, where the plot is exposed and the actual perpetrators are caught. The real question in this regard is how new or uncommon this particular incident is of far right radicals framing refugees for attacks in a PR war against them. I doubt this is the first time it has happened, but probably only the first time that it has failed and been exposed.

    • cmyfe .

The Reason Why Sebastian Gorka Won’t Answer A Simple Question About Islam

Sebastian Gorka, assistant to Trumpelstilskin, and self-styled “counterterrorism” expert is slated to have a ridiculously privileged role in influencing what Trump thinks about national security.  He swims in the same swamp as the other Islamophobes who are a part of the administration.

Recently, Gorka was unwilling to answer a basic question: “Does the president believe Islam is a religion?” Gorka’s non-answer:

Gorka spurned the question, telling Inskeep, “This is not a theological seminary. This is the White House. And we’re not going to get into theological debates.”

“If the president has a certain attitude to a certain religion, that’s something you can ask him,” Gorka said on the radio show. “But we’re talking about national security and the totalitarian ideologies that drive the groups that threaten America.”

The reason Gorka cannot answer the question is because the Islamophobes surrounding Trump, such as Bannon, Miller, and himself are ideological allies to the folks at hate blogs such as JihadWatch, FrontPage, etc. where the canard that “Islam is not a religion but a totalitarian political ideology” has been regularly propagated for years.

Loonwatch commenter, Mo, mentions the dangerous slippery slope intent that lies behind this view of Islam:

If Trumps people can convince Americans that Islam is not a religion, then they will be able to convince Americans that following Shariah is not protected by religious freedom – because it’s not religious law.

If they can ban us from following our religious law, they will eventually extend this to ban hijabs and even halal meat. Eventually they will extend this further to ban the congregation of any Muslims they deem to be “un-american”… whatever they decide that means.

They are attempting to roll back our freedoms one by one. This is how it begins.

In addition to this central point, Gorka’s allies, Spencer, Gaffney and the likes have advocated that the Sedition Act be used to charge Muslim Americans if they believe or proclaim to follow Shariah. That is the totalitarian intent behind the Islamophobic narratives they have pursued with such vigor over the years.

You are very selective about your child molestation bullshit. Where is your outrage when each year you are forced in America to celebrate Columbus day? This is straight from his writings:

“A hundred castellanoes are as easily obtained for a woman as for a farm, and it is very general and there are plenty of dealers who go about looking for girls; those from nine to ten are now in demand.”

What do you think they wanted those nine and ten year old slave girls for? I seriously doubt it was to play hopscotch with them. He wrote that around the year 1500. That is almost 500 years after the death of Prophet Muhammad.

Here are some more facts for you douchbag:

Professor of history Margaret Wade Labarge:

“It needs to be remembered that many Medieval widows were not old, Important heiresses were often married between the ages of 5 and 10 and might find themselves widowed while still in their teens.”

Professor Richard Wortley and Professor Stephen Smallbone, both of whom state that prior to the 1900s girls married very young,

“In Medieval and early modern European societies, the age of marriage remained low, with documented cases of brides as young as seven years, although marriages were typically not consummated until the girl reached puberty (Bullough 2004). Shakespeare’s Juliet was just 13, and there is no hint in the play that this was considered to be exceptional. The situation was similar on the other side of the Atlantic; Bullough reports the case in 1689 of a nine-year-old bride in Virginia. At the start of the nineteenth century in England, it was legal to have sex with a 10 year-old girl.”

In the book, ‘Sex and Society’,

“Until the late 20th century U.S. age of consent laws specifically names males as perpetrators and females as victims. Following English law, in which the age was set at 12 in 1275 and lowered to 10 in 1576, ages of consent in the American colonies were generally set at 10 or 12. The laws protected female virginity, which at the time was considered a valuable commodity until marriage. The theft of a girl’s chastity was seen as a property crime against her father and future husband. If two people were married and had sex, no matter what their age, no crime was committed because a woman was her husband’s property. In practice, too, the consent laws only protected white females, as many non-white females were enslaved or otherwise discriminated against by the legal system.”

Richard A. Posner is chief judge of the U.S court of appeals, Seventh Circuit Chicago. Katherine B. Silbaugh is associate Professor at Boston University School of Law, they say that before the 1900s age of consent was ten years old,

“The law governing the age of consent has changed dramatically in the United States during this century. Most states codified a statutory age of consent during the nineteenth century, and the usual age was ten years.”

I got that information from here: https://discover-the-truth.com/2013/09/09/age-of-consent-in-european-american-history/

Adam Purinton Killed Two Hindu Men In Islamophobic Attack

More fall out from the hate that Trump has propagated against Muslims. Two Indian, likely Hindu engineers were gunned down by a racist, Islamophobe yelling “get out my country.”

via. KansasCity.com

Purinton, a Navy veteran, was booked into the Henry County Jail. After the charges were filed, Purinton appeared before a judge in Henry County and waived his right to fight extradition.

It was not known how soon he would be returned to Johnson County.

Purinton allegedly told a bartender in Clinton that he had killed two Middle Eastern men, The Star has learned.

He reportedly told the bartender that he needed a place to hide out.

At least one witness reportedly heard the suspect yell “get out of my country” shortly before shooting men he thought were Middle Eastern. Both men, engineers at Garmin, appear to be originally from India.

FYI Israeli-French Citizens: Israel Is Also Racist

Marine LePen, ultra-nationalist, whose party the “Front National” a court in France ruled can justifiably be described as “fascist” has said that dual nationalities, those who hold Israeli and French citizenship would have to choose one or the other.

In a display of irony, Haaretz published a report on LePen’s proclamation that says many dual French-Israelis would choose Israel over France. My question to these folks: you do realize that Israel is an aggressively racist, colonial-settler state, right? So you aren’t okay with racism and neo-colonialism in France but just enjoy the Israeli flavored racism? Is it because it targets you and in Israel it targets Palestinians and Muslims?

Many French Jews who have immigrated to Israel told Haaretz that in such a case they would choose to remain citizens of the Jewish state, but said they fear for the physical and financial safety of those who continue to live in France or who travel between the two countries.

“My choice is made, I would remain Israeli, because Le Pen’s behavior is truly fascist,” said Agnes Hanna Goldman, a 60-year-old who works in public relations and movie production and is in the process of moving to Tel Aviv.

Judge James Robart Halts Trump Order: “No One Is Above The Law”

Federal Judge James Robart, who it seems is actually just a really good guy, put a halt to the executive order signed by Trump banning refugees, and also opined that the state (Washington and Minnesota brought the lawsuit) would likely prevail on its claim that the order is unconstitutional.

Of course, Twitler-in-chief, was besides himself and tweeted something dumb about overturning the “so-called” judge’s ruling.

Update, 9:52 p.m.: CNN is reporting that Customs and Border Protection is reinstating revoked visas for travelers affected by the ban, indicating that the executive order is no longer in effect.

On Friday night, in the most stinging and widespread rebuke to the new administration so far, a federal judge in Seattle ordered a nationwide stay on President Trump’s week-old executive order barring travelers from seven countries from entering the U.S., Reuters reported.

Unlike the judicial orders already in place, the order entered by Judge James Robart (a George W. Bush appointee, in case you’re keeping score) went to the heart of the executive order, requiring that the travel restrictions be stayed immediately. Federal officers are barred from enforcing the parts of the ban that target immigrants from those seven countries and refugees, and that grant exemptions to refugees on the basis of their religion.

The Intercept: Obama Killed a 16-Year-Old American in Yemen. Trump Just Killed His 8-Year-Old Sister

RIP sweet angel. You did not deserve to be killed!

By Glenn Greenwald, The Intercept

IN 2010, PRESIDENT Obama directed the CIA to assassinate an American citizen in Yemen, Anwar al-Awlaki, despite the fact that he had never been charged with (let alone convicted of) any crime, and the agency successfully carried out that order a year later with a September 2011 drone strike. While that assassination created widespread debate — the once-again-beloved ACLU sued Obama to restrain him from the assassination on the ground of due process and then, when that suit was dismissed, sued Obama again after the killing was carried out — another drone killing carried out shortly thereafter was perhaps even more significant yet generated relatively little attention.

Two weeks after the killing of Awlaki, a separate CIA drone strike in Yemen killed his 16-year-old American-born son, Abdulrahman, along with the boy’s 17-year-old cousin and several other innocent Yemenis. The U.S. eventually claimed that the boy was not their target but merely “collateral damage.” Abdulrahman’s grief-stricken grandfather, Nasser al-Awlaki, urged the Washington Post “to visit a Facebook memorial page for Abdulrahman,” which explained: “Look at his pictures, his friends, and his hobbies. His Facebook page shows a typical kid.”

Few events pulled the mask off Obama officials like this one. It highlighted how the Obama administration was ravaging Yemen, one of the world’s poorest countries: just weeks after he won the Nobel Prize, Obama used cluster bombs that killed 35 Yemeni women and children. Even Obama-supporting liberal comedians mocked the arguments of the Obama DOJ for why it had the right to execute Americans with no charges: “Due Process Just Means There’s A Process That You Do,” snarked Stephen Colbert. And a firestorm erupted when former Obama press secretary Robert Gibbs offered a sociopathic justification for killing the Colorado-born teenager, apparently blaming him for his own killing by saying he should have “had a more responsible father.”The U.S. assault on Yemeni civilians not only continued but radically escalated over the next five years through the end of the Obama presidency, as the U.S. and the U.K. armed, supported, and provide crucial assistance to their close ally Saudi Arabia as it devastated Yemen through a criminally reckless bombing campaign. Yemen now faces mass starvationseemingly exacerbated, deliberately, by the U.S.-U.K.-supported air attacks. Because of the West’s direct responsibility for these atrocities, they have received vanishingly little attention in the responsible countries.

In a hideous symbol of the bipartisan continuity of U.S. barbarism, Nasser al-Awlaki just lost another one of his young grandchildren to U.S. violence. On Sunday, the Navy’s SEAL Team 6, using armed Reaper drones for cover, carried out a commando raid on what it said was a compound harboring officials of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. A statement issued by President Trump lamented the death of an American service member and several others who were wounded, but made no mention of any civilian deaths. U.S. military officials initially denied any civilian deaths, and (therefore) the CNN report on the raid said nothing about any civilians being killed.

But reports from Yemen quickly surfaced that 30 people were killed, including 10 women and children. Among the dead: the 8-year-old granddaughter of Nasser al-Awlaki, Nawar, who was also the daughter of Anwar Awlaki.

As noted by my colleague Jeremy Scahill — who extensively interviewed the grandparents in Yemen for his book and film on Obama’s “Dirty Wars” —  the girl “was shot in the neck and killed,” bleeding to death over the course of two hours. “Why kill children?” the grandfather asked. “This is the new (U.S.) administration — it’s very sad, a big crime.”

Trump supporters said he would bring change……

He didn’t change the policies that actually matter, he still continues the U.S. bloody wars carried out by his predecessors. The only changes he made was making American society more volatile and legalising non-sensical bans.

Canada Mourned The Victims Of Quebec City Massacre

Trump was silent while a whole nation to our north mourned an unprecedented Islamophobic massacre. Much respect to Canada.

Nearly 5,000 mourners packed into a hockey arena in Montreal’s Olympic park for the funeral, while many more across Canada watched it on television.

For many in this mostly secular nation, the ceremony was their first glimpse of traditional Muslim funeral rites.

There were also prayers for the other three victims, who will be commemorated the next day in Quebec City.

Khaled Belkacemi, 60, and Abedlkrim Hassane, 41, both Algerian dual nationals, and Tunisian-born Aboubaker Thabti, 44, were shot dead, along with three other worshippers at a Quebec City mosque on Sunday.

“The pain is hard to express, it runs deep,” mourner Mohamed Lemdani told AFP.

“We are all family men who came to Canada to work and integrate into a multicultural society,” he said.

White flower wreaths were placed by the coffins, covered by the flags of the victims’ birth countries, where their bodies later would be transported for burial.

There has been an outpouring of support for Canada’s minority Muslim community in the wake of the attack, but also pockets of increased hate mongering.

At the funeral Catholics, Jews, Muslims and agnostics sat side by side, hugging each other and wiping away tears as verses of the Koran were read aloud.

“The whole nation has been shaken by this brutal and hateful attack, but in these dark moments our country has united and showed solidarity,” said Trudeau.

“(Say) no to violence, no to intimidation, racism and xenophobia,” said Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard.

To Canada’s 1.1 million-strong Muslim minority, he said: “Know that you are at home here.”

Canada really showed how it should be done. I was really impressed by the speech of the Imam at the funeral as well. Will post a transcript later.
