Los Angeles Jewish Federation Hosts, Endorses Pamela Geller’s Islamophobia

Los Angeles Jewish Federation Hosts, Endorses Pam Geller’s Islamophobia

by Richard Silverstein (Tikkun Olam)

Well, now I’ve seen everything.  In the course of writing this blog, at various points I’ve made similar statements.  But invariably an even greater outrage occurs and I have to amend myself.  Tonight is such a time.

CAIR’s daily press briefing reveals that the Los Angeles Jewish Federation will be hosting a lecture by rabid Muslim-hater Pam GellerIslamic Jew Hatred: The Root Cause of Failure to Achieve Peace.  The official sponsor of the event is the Zionist Organization of America, but she will speak tomorrow on their behalf in the Sanders Board Room, the Federation’s main meeting space.  There are several serious ironies here.  First, this board room is named after Ed Sanders, a State Department official in the Carter administration who was an illustrious member of the local Jewish community known for his dovish political views on Israel.  Second, I know Jonathan Jacoby, a senior vice president of the Jewish federation.  Jonnie was the founding director of the New Israel Fund.  Though his views were always liberal rather than left-wing (obviously, how could he get a job working for a federation if they weren’t?), but he must be squirming or worse at this development.

Here’s the Federation blurb on the event, no doubt cooked up by the ZOA itself:

“Islamic Jew Hatred: The Root Cause of Failure to Achieve Peace” with acclaimed author and activist, Pamela Geller

All too often, pundits and world leaders blame Israel for the failure to achieve peace in the Middle East. Join us as renowned author and activist Pamela Geller reveals the root cause of war in the Middle East: Islamic Jew hatred. She’ll discuss the motive behind Islam’s war on the Jews, the war against Israel, and the 1,400-year-old hatred of Jews living in Muslim lands.

Lest the federation not know this, the Southern Poverty Law Center features her in it’s racist Hall of Shame.  The hate blogger was lauded  by serial killer Anders Breivik and defended him as Think Progress noted.  Do these people know with whom they’ve gotten into bed?  To have her officially endorsed by a Jewish communal organization representing all the Jews of one of the largest communities in America is beyond a shandeh.  In Hebrew, it’s a bushah v’cherpah.

    “Very strange that people who are not pleased with Jihad, the systematic killings of infidels, are called hate mongers. Pathetic , ehh sorry, funny people those mooslims.”

    @Worry

    Hey, nice to see you on this site, while you’re here, why don’t you kick back, relax and take a look at some of the articles here hmm?

    Why don’t you enlighten us on which Muslim country has systematically sent thousands of troops and systematically killed hundreds of thousands of Westerners over the last decade or century?

    *tumbleweed* in case you haven’t realised, dimwit, the west has been in Muslim countries killing civilians for a VERY long time, SYSTEMATICALLY. Did you know about the drone wars in Yemen, or is it only Afghanistan and Iraq that you know about? Did you see what they’re trying to do to Iran?

    You are a tool, and you have some nerve coming to this site and not getting your lazy ass to click any of the articles. Here is some free info if your mind can handle it.

    I suppose CAIR would know about controversial speakers; they hosted antisemitic Egyptican cleric, Wagdi Ghoneim.

    When and where? can you provide a link to that ?

  • @JSB you wrote,

    I sent the Federation a message about Geller, linking to the SPLC and this page. (See, Garibaldi, I do promote Loonwatch!) Since the event is today, I doubt they will cancel it, but perhaps they may be more reluctant to host such a bigoted speaker in the future.

    Thank you for your efforts in this regard, and thank you for linking to this page! It seems your message alongside others who registered their complaints have made a difference and born fruit. The event has been pulled!

    I should be surprised, but I’m not. Many Jews have unfortunately jumped on the same bandwagon that once hurled insults and persecution at their ancestors. Ironic, but not surprising. Future generations of Muslims will probably do the same thing to the new “bad guys.”

  • Worry

    Very strange that people who are not pleased with Jihad, the systematic killings of infidels, are called hate mongers. Pathetic , ehh sorry, funny people those mooslims.

    Congratulations, guys, now also Egypt this has a religious fascist leader, the muslin-cancer is getting enormous proportions. Keep you taqiyya going, digging your own grave.

  • DrM

    Zionist criminality at work. Nothing new there.

  • Southern Poverty Law Center on Pam Geller:

    “In a short time, she’s become arguably the most visible Islamophobe in America.”
    ‘Geller, who is Jewish, mingles with European racists and fascists, and defends Serbian war criminals who slaughtered Muslims.”

    And there is plenty more to read in the SPLCenter,com Summer 2012 “Intelligence Report – 30 to Watch.”

    @NurAlia
    Not to take away from the other thoughtful comments above, I like yours the best because it offers hope that those who are truly kind and compassionate, and who want peace and happiness for all, will see, hear and condemn Pam Geller’s Islamophobia.

  • @Garibaldi

    I have an update. I just went on Little Green Footballs and Charles Johnson has some good news.

    I wonder if Loon Watch had anything to do with this.

  • jawad

    ProphetofTolerance, why dont you tell us what you think about Pamella Gellar?

  • ProphetofTolerance

    “Wagdy Ghoneim is a highly regarded religious scholar who gives speeches around the country.”

    Hussam Ayloush

    Executive Director of CAIR-Los Angeles (CAIR-California)

    // Highly regarded by whom?

  • ProphetofTolerance

    ^ Considering LW and Richard Silverstein are both CAIR friendly, it seems some ‘wrongs’ are worse than others.

    How does that add up?

    :/

    Not sure what to make of this: the L.A. Federation’s link to the event that was there a few hours ago has been removed, even though links to an earlier and later events still exist.

    “My math is a bit fuzzy,”
    Maybe Danios can help you out.

    “how many wrongs does it take to make a right, again?”
    Depends on the math: often two if they are sign errors, especially if the terms with the wrong signs are multiplied together. But that doesn’t work for moral calculus.

    @mindy…

    I think they do see the ‘irony’ of this, as you put it. I think it is to remind the attenders of what thier parents and grandparents who lived through the bigotry and pure hatred heard and saw.

    I visited once a ‘place of rememberance’. Where you can walk around, and hear recoridings of stories from the victims of (another atrocity) but you can also hear the hate speech, lies and dehumanisation of the ‘leaders’ against those people.

    Mindy…I have to say that the most chilling part of that visit…and the thing that never leaves your mind, is the blatant burning hatred, bigotry (even pictures in thier mainstream press) of the dehummanization of a group of people.

    If you (or I) are those people…see pictures of us as whores and devils, and they use names..even your own because it is common, or your city, or country…it is scary…a nightmare

    So yes mindy, it is ironic, but to me it is like inviting the ‘easy’ girl to the party, so she can show you what you will become if you dont see yourself and others with respect and dignity.

  • NurAlia

    If the people who attend this event are ‘liberal’, then how will hearing her rhetoric change thier minds?

    In fact, hearing her rhetoric might be more productive to the attenders of the event, by simply hearing how rediculous it sounds…how hateful and bigoted it stings…and what thier parents and grandparents told them about the rise of the political ideologies that ended up as an atrocity on European Jews.

  • Jack

    “…renowned author and activist Pamela Geller…”

    ‘Infamous blogger and hate-mongerer’ would have been more apt.

    Mindy: “Why are my fellow Jews endorsing a hater?”

    Because of fear and bigotry? Oh, and a right-wing zionist agenda, probably.

  • Just Stopping By

    “Though it goes without saying that the ‘Jewish Federation’ has not really held Jewish interests at heart *gasp*. They’ve hosted parties with cocktails and margarita’s for about as long as the organization has existed.”

    Huh? The Jewish Federations do a lot of good charitable work for the Jewish community and beyond. They certainly have Jewish interests at heart, but this one either made a huge mistake or is not concerned enough with Islamophobia. And nothing wrong with alcohol consumed in moderation in Judaism, so fundraisers or celebratory events with cocktails and margaritas are fine.

    I sent the Federation a message about Geller, linking to the SPLC and this page. (See, Garibaldi, I do promote Loonwatch!) Since the event is today, I doubt they will cancel it, but perhaps they may be more reluctant to host such a bigoted speaker in the future.

  • Khalid

    How disgusting.

    Though it goes without saying that the “Jewish Federation” has not really held Jewish interests at heart *gasp*.

    They’ve hosted parties with cocktails and margarita’s for about as long as the organization has existed.

  • Joy

    Telling the truth about Islam is obvious a cruel act of hatred, Pamela by now should know that exposing the truth hurts the Islam too much, shame on her.

  • mindy1

    Why are my fellow Jews endorsing a hater?? Do they not see the irony??? On behalf of Jews, I am sorry for this 🙁
